Washaun Ealey and the Georgia running game took a while to get on track. (Associated Press)
The first half of Georgia’s game against Texas A&M in Shreveport didn’t look so promising for the Dogs, mainly because poor play by the offensive line stymied the running game and led to some questionable play-calling by Mike Bobo. The Aggies were having success with run blitzes on first down.
But A&M’s fast-paced offense wasn’t looking much better early on. Georgia’s much maligned defense looked good up front and got a lot of pressure on Aggies QB Jerrod Johnson, though linebacker and secondary play was sketchy.
Neither team scored in the first 27 minutes. They both looked rusty.
The difference in the first half was Georgia’s superior special teams play.
Georgia’s halftime adjustments on the offensive line were successful and the Dogs eventually took command of the game in the second half. And they seemed like the better conditioned team, too, as the Aggies looked flat-out tired in the fourth quarter. Thankfully, this wasn’t the same Jerrod Johnson that Texas saw in their regular season finale.
Basically, the better team won tonight.
It’s difficult to draw many conclusions about next season from this game since the Dogs will have a different QB and a new defensive coordinator. But I was encouraged by how Georgia ended the season.
How about you?

Good win for the Dawgs. Looks like we didn’t need Martinez or Fabris after all. Who would have imagined a couple of graduate assistants could coach a better game than Martinez. Thank God the Joe Cox experiment is over and we can look forward to a new era at quarterback. What a wasted season. If only Richt would have taken his head out of Cox’s ass and played a better quarterback. I knew the season was awrite-off when Richt said Cox “gives us the best chance to win.” What load of crap. Yes, we kicked the crap out of A&M, but then again, it was A&M.

I don’t get it either. We finish 8-5, win a bowl, and fans want to put a lot of the losses on Joe.
There were obviously a lot of problems with the D special teams throughout most of the year>

GT Joe… I think Miami pretty much destroyed Tech… UGA was ahead of KY 20 to 6 at halftime and had 4 turnovers in the second half. That is the only way they win that game. Miami just blew tech out…. Oh by the way… the 339 yards rushing we had against Tech was the most rushing yards by any UGA team in the CMR era.

Nah, there is no pride in an 11 win season when you play so many patsies and play in the worst conference in the country and lose to your instate rival with two weeks to prepare, at home with the best team you’ve had in 20 years…that is a very hollow 11 win season.

Lotta dog fans on here saying they were impressed by the dog’s play. Tex A/M was 6-6 this season with a bad D, yet still outgained GA. Be careful not to get the wool pulled over your eyes … you can’t expect to get the special teams teams play like tonight in every game. A kickoff return TD, blocked punt TD (recovered at 1 yd line), punt snapped over punter’s head TD (recovered at 20 yd line), and a blocked FG. Add to that 2 ints (on consecutive possessions) when the score was 17-14.
Don’t even think about spatting back at me b/c you said all season that the Big 12 is a “one-trick pony” (Texas). And this A&M team was NOT good. If you really think this will help you in 2010 then you’re in for a rude awakening in the big, bad SEC.
You can’t get excited by beating a 6-6 team that played like that and still put up dam* near 500 yds of offense. 6-6 (3-5 in conf) does not deserve a bowl game. Now they are 6-7 – very nice.
