Independence Bowl: The better team won

The first half of Georgia’s game against Texas A&M in Shreveport didn’t look so promising for the Dogs, mainly because poor play by the offensive line stymied the running game and led to some questionable play-calling by Mike Bobo. The Aggies were having success with run blitzes on first down.
But A&M’s fast-paced offense wasn’t looking much better early on. Georgia’s much maligned defense looked good up front and got a lot of pressure on Aggies QB Jerrod Johnson, though linebacker and secondary play was sketchy.
Neither team scored in the first 27 minutes. They both looked rusty.
The difference in the first half was Georgia’s superior special teams play.
Georgia’s halftime adjustments on the offensive line were successful and the Dogs eventually took command of the game in the second half. And they seemed like the better conditioned team, too, as the Aggies looked flat-out tired in the fourth quarter. Thankfully, this wasn’t the same Jerrod Johnson that Texas saw in their regular season finale.
Basically, the better team won tonight.
It’s difficult to draw many conclusions about next season from this game since the Dogs will have a different QB and a new defensive coordinator. But I was encouraged by how Georgia ended the season.

I dont think A & M was a weak opponent , aren’t they the 5 th best offense in the country? I hope Georgia hangs on to these graduate assistants, or at least promotes them.

Great win for sure after the year we had. Maybe we are back on track now.
Looks like Bama should eat Texas alive with the “D” they have. Ours made the Big 12 #1 “O” look bad.

Great game! CMR showed he is a good coach. Offense, an S.E.C. offense. Rammed it down their throats. If “D” would’ve played like this all year we’ would’ve given FL fits! With the right D coordinator we will be a force to be reckoned with.
To all the players, especially the Seniors – Thank you! You stepped up and made us proud!

Congratulations for a fine SEC win and on a Zook-like 8-5 season. I remember all the postings and complaints between 2000-2006 clammering that the UGA Atheletic Director needed to schedule tougher out-of-conference teams. If you look back at the Florida schedules during the 8-5 Zook years you will note that Florida scheduled and played many of the same Westcoast and Mountain conference teams that UGA has recently started scheduling. Coincidence?

I don’t understand the vile attitudes toward Joe Cox. A quality guy who made sacrifices for our program, loves UGA and, by the way, was one touchdown pass short of the UGA record of 25 in one year set by the #1 pick in the NFL draft last year. As UGA fans we should support and be proud of all players that sacrifice for our team and give us their best, regardless of what level that might be.
