Georgia wrapped up its pre-bowl practices in Athens today and the players will be hitting the road on their own for Shreveport, where they’re expected to report by 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday. First up once they get there, the athletic department says, will be a team activity at Barksdale Air Force Base.
The Dogs will practice again Friday afternoon at Independence Stadium, after beginning Christmas Day with a morning visit to patients at a local hospital. Some of the players have grumbled about being away from home on Christmas, but maybe they’ll feel less sorry for themselves after that. A dinner is planned at the team hotel Christmas evening.
The Dogs will practice again on Saturday and hold a walk-through session on Sunday before Monday’s game against the Aggies. The Dogs are a 7-point favorite with the game’s over/under betting total set at 64 points, which, considering the offenses and defenses involved, some might consider kind of conservative.
I’m hoping the Dogs don’t get into a high-scoring shootout with the Aggies. If they do, it’ll mean the game plan (run the ball, control the clock and keep QB Jerrod Johnson on the sideline) didn’t work.
I’m thinking it might wind up something along the lines of 38-21 in favor of the Dogs. What does your crystal ball say?
INDEPENDENCE BOWL FLASHBACK

(The Helmet Project)
Georgia’s previous visit to Shreveport, to play Arkansas in the 1991 Independence Bowl during the Ray Goff era, isn’t one of those games of the ages that fans like to reminisce about. But if you’d like to refresh your memory about the game (which Georgia won 24-15), UGA football historian Patrick Garbin provides an interesting look back.
For a lot of folks, that game is most notable for Goff having given in to the players by adding a black stripe down the center of the red helmets and black facemasks. Thankfully, that was the only time that design was used.
The Blawg is taking a holiday break the rest of the week. See you back here for the bowl game.

What is Most Incongruous about GA tek fans posting again about Florida are their posts about Paul Johnson as a name on the list to replace Urban Meyer at Florida.
Paul Johnson played 6 games against teams not even in a bowl game, and YET LOST MORE GAMES than Florida did playing only 4 teams who aren’t in a bowl game.
I mean how good is Paul Johnson, anyway ?
He recruits very poorly.
His offense has zero tight ends and at most 1 receiver on the whole entire roster.
A QB who in 35 games has only 13 TD passes to 11 interceptions and is the Number 115 Passing Offense in the NCAA this season, yet this is what they went to when they scrapped their high school offense and threw 4 plays in a row to lose to a 7-5 team playing in Shreveport, NE LA at a high school stadium (larger than Tech’s Grant Field Bobby Dodd Stadium.)
There are only 3 football players in all of America who have committed to come play on this high school offense of Paul Johnson.
3.
He fired Jon Tenuta to hire the linebackers’ coach at So Miss to come be his Defensive Coordinator.
With 6 games against teams not even in a bowl game, Paul Johnson’s “defense” is Number 57 against the Run, 54 Total Defense and 58 Scoring Defense.
And, his recruits are IDIOTS, not suited for the purpose for which they are intended as “student” – athletes.
Florida lost 1 game against # 1 Alabama. GA tek with Paul Johnson lost to UGA for God’s sake who LOST TO 5 OTHER TEAMS including Kentucky AND lost to Miami of Florida who otherwise beat no one, like UGA.
Soft schedule GA tek played.
It is, after all, all Paul Johnson has EVER COMPETED AGAINST.
GA tek fans think Florida wants their head football coach.
Now, that’s funny.
Go read the posts.
Right up there before now.
And, they keep saying it.
What is the 1 name NOT on Jeremy Foley’s list ?
Paul Johnson.

There is 1 area common to Florida under Urban Meyer and GA tek fans nowadays, and that is that they are crybabies when they lose.

I see Joe Cox as a young man with great character. And very good ability. Imagine his having a great defense. And the great offensive line that showed up for the last 2 games that paved the way for what could become a truly devastating running game. He has never complained nor has he shifted blame. He would have had a great freshman season. What if Eric Zeir (sp?) had had a great defense?

The Aggies will steam roll the dawgs 56 to 19 in front of all 400 UGA fans. How far can you fall? Preseason # 1 a year ago to a 6 loss team with only a hand full of fans at the bowl game. The INDEPENDENCE BOWL will never invite UGA again.

Hey hedgecutter, wake up to reality. The Acc is a weak conferance going way back. Look at the facts, before Miami, Fla. State, Virgina Tech, and Boston college joined the ACC they were strong programs. Since joining the ACC the talent level at those schools have dropped. Ya think it may have something to do with getting quality recruits?

Good grief ! Kentucky is awful. How does a team like this get into a bowl, even a nothing bowl. If this is representative of the SEC the conference should withdraw from the NCAA. Who did they lose to ? Clemson ? An ACC school ? Has the SEC ever reached such a low point ? Did UK beat anybody this year ? Surely, they didn’t beat UGA. Oh, say it ain’t so.
