A season’s high points, low points

bulldogMark Richt is still searching for a new defensive coordinator, the players have exams and I’m on vacation this week, but that’s no reason for the discussion of all things Georgia football to stop here.

I’ll get you started by asking what you think the high points and low points were in this disappointing season. I’m guessing the win at Tech tops many people’s lists of high points, but there are others: the emergence of a running game late in the season for one.

Low points? So many to choose from, but I’m stuck on picking which was worse: the domination by the Vols in Knoxville or the Dogs’ second-half collapse against Kentucky.

Anyway, comment away, but keep it clean and civil, please. And the Blawg will return next week.

Go Dogs!

High point: knocking that goofy grin off of Tech and shutting their pie hole for awhile.
Low point; The feeling i had before every game knowing we could lose vs. all the other Richt teams in the past knowing we had a chance to WIN every game we played.

High point,….the upset over Tech. Say that again ugag. You know it was your biggest win since you upset an injured Tebow and the Gators. There’s going to be plenty of chances to beat you,…right now,..we”re busy getting ready for the Orange Bowl. As for the ugag,….plenty of problems and issues,..just ask Rex Robinson.

What exit is Shreveport on? Too funny.

High Points

AJ Green, orsen charles, brandon boykin, branden smith, the emerging running game, beating Tech to damper there greatest legal season since 1990, firing 3/4 of the defensive staff.

Low points

losing to florida, tennessee, kentucky, lsu, and oklahoma state. watching our defense look inept, watching our offense sputter, UGA VII passing away.

Kinda optimistic for 2010 if we are a run first ball team that has an intelligent defensive coordinator. Go Dawgs! We Run This State!

HIGH POINT: WATCHING ALL THE AUBURN FANS LEAVE SANFORD STADIUM, NOT SPEAKING TO ONE ANOTHER, KNOWING THEY HAD A 2.5+ HOUR DRIVE BACK TO METRO OPELIKA, AL

High Point the SEC again proving how inferior the ACC is by beating them 5 of 7 games and one of those losses was GT beating Vandy.

Low point was having a team with 11-1 caliber players go 7-5. Losses to LSU and Kentucky both of whom the Dawg’s should have beaten.

Bright Spot – The prospect of another 7 year win streak against GT.

The high point was probably the Auburn win, with GT being a close second. The low point was Kentucky, continued problems with conditioning and penalties and the continued slide into second-tier status in both the SEC and National spotlight… I’m afraid to say that I don’t see it getting better anytime soon. We’ll be out of the pre-season top 25 almost certainly, don’t have an experienced QB and losing a good deal of our big guns on D. 2010’s schedule is favorable, but without the bye week before Florida and too many unknowns on both sides of the ball 2010 may not shape up any better than 2009.

Low points: Injuries to Sturdivant, Strickland, and Durham. Hope those guys get well. A bad personal foul call in the OK State game and the awful excessive celebration call on AJ in the LSU game. These 2 calls heavily influenced the outcomes of those 2 games that could have changed the entire season.

High points: Some veteran guys like Kade Weston came into their own. The Defensive ends kind of came around. The O-line came around. There is some stellar young talent that got some good experience. Charlie Strong left the SEC.

I don’t really get the criticism regarding conditioning. They seem to be in good shape. I mean I understand the comments about discipline because of the turnovers and penalties. I think for any SEC team, that if you can beat an ACC team that should always be the highest point of the season (so UGA beating Tech should be the high point). Teams from the South Eastern Cupcakes just don’t have the overall quality of the ACC. The SEC only has 2 teams in it!!! If you took out Florida and Alabama what would you have left? Think about it. I would be more afraid of the Pioneer Conference.

The high point was beating Georgia Tech. Not so much the individual game. Beating Tech is a standard affair for Georgia. What was important about that win in particular was that it exposed the conceptual weeknesses in Johnson’s schemes on both sides of the ball. The Bulldogs domination of that rivalry should remain intact. There were a number of low points. But the let down against Kentucky showcased all that has been wrong with the Bulldogs the season and was probably what ultimatley cost Martinez and company their jobs. I trust now that he no longer has to protect and defend his good friend Coach Richt will make a good hire at Defensive Coordinator.

Low Points: 1.) Sturdivant’s injury 2.) Undisciplined, sloppy play/stupid penalties (this team definitely wasn’t good enough to overcome these mistakes Like an FSU or Miami team from the 90s), 3.) Overall play of defense throughout the year with the exception of Auburn and GT games 4.) Performance of Offensive Line in 1st half of season, 5.) 2nd half meltdown against Ky, 6.) Turnovers, 7.) Termination of 3 coaches

SEC Refs Anti-Georgia Pro Florida Calls

December 14th, 2009
10:10 am

It was wierd this year the way the SEC refs seemed to be trying to set up a Florida/Bama SEC Championship. The missed call against AJ was one of the worst of the year. Other phantom calls led to suspensions of the SEC crew. In the end, the SEC commissioner got what he wanted—the Florida-Bama matchup, only to have Florida crushed by Bama on national TV, hardly a game to remember or an instant classic.

Georgia has to dominant next year and win every game by 40 points so the refs throwing 10 penalty flags a game against Georgia, and biased ESPN reporters like Herbstreet can’t vote LSU through to the Natl Chasmpionship, even when Geprgia has clearly earned the right to go to the Natl Championship.

Jimmy Johnson learned that with Miami, and he started winning games by 40 points to make sure no one else could effect the outcome, Georgia has got to do the same thing.

We weren’t so second rate in 2002, 2005, or 2007. The low point of the season for me was when Richt brought back Willie as defensive coordinator, knowing that Willie is no defensive coordinator. Beating Tech should never be considered as a high point. We should beat them 8 out of every nine tries. Oh, we have.

The funniest thing about the win over GT?

It ultimately didn’t change the bowl destination for either team.

Lowpoint TO's

December 14th, 2009
10:13 am

The lowpoint was the Turnover disaster. We led the nation in BOTH giveaways and takeaways. Without the turnover problem, we go undefeated. Nbody beats Georgia except Georgia. That will be fixed in 2010. Kirby Smart will force 2 takeaways per game and Bobo will run the ball in 2010.

Ealey was the Highpoint

December 14th, 2009
10:18 am

Great to see how Georgia started winning when we started giving the ball to Ealey. The Auburn and Ga Tech games were both games where Ealey got a lot of touches. Those also happened to be the 2 highlights of the 2009 season. Ealey’s a force—Ga Tech was his coming out party. The more Ealey gets the ball, the more 2010 highlights Georgia will have. Just like 2009, the less Ealey gets the ball, the less highlights and more low points Georgia will have.

The best thing that happened for the Georgia Bulldogs was the Kentucky game. I do not think that Coach Richt would have made the changes if that outcome did not occur. Coach Richt should have made those changes last year, and because he did not, we all are paying for it now. I really hope that Coach Richt gets a better grip on his team from now on.

The loose play, penalties, arests, black helmets, etc are unacceptable. The team needs to play as one for all, and not all for one. That is instilled by coaching. So let us all hope that the Georgia Bulldogs will finally have an excellent performance by the coaching staff for next year and on. Go Dogs!!

High Point….learning the Defensive Coaching staff will undergo a major facelift heading into 2010!!! Too bad we also didn’t cut the chord with Garner. But maybe they can assign him the duty of watching the graduate assistants (and only that) to go along with his real job which is recruiting.

High Point--Bama killing Florida

December 14th, 2009

Bama killing Florida was encouraging because it showed what happens to Florida when you run the ball dow their throat, and make Tebow beat you passing the ball. Man, is Tebow horrible or what? What a joke for a QB.

High point—Beating Tech. Yes, it is sad when this is the high point of the season. We need to get back to the point where beating fl and bama and playing in the Sugar Bowl will be the high points.

Low point—Marc Curles(a Tech man) making the call against AJ in the LSU game. I knew this team was not very good and we needed every win we could muster, and to have this one taken away hurt. My wife said it was only one game, what difference does it make. I said wait until the end of the year and see where it puts us in the bowl picture. I hate it when I’m right.(And before Tiger fans jump on me, there is a big difference in getting beat by KY and losing to LSU and Marc Curles)

There were 3 High Points during the season
1. Running all over Georgia Tech 30-24!!
2. AJ Green- It was fun to watch him play and hopefully he will be back for the bowl game.
3. Beating Auburn when no one thought that we had a chance

Low Points of the season
1. The Tennessee loss- it was something that never should have happen and nothing good came from it.
2 . TURNOVERS & PENALTIES
3. The Kentucky Loss- It is 3rd b/c I think without that loss we might not have had the urgency for Tech. I am unsure but having our backs totally against the wall helped in that situation.

GO DAWGS!!!!!

Low Points--Kent & LSU

December 14th, 2009

Georgia is 9-3 and top 20 ranked without those 7 point losses. Poor end game clock management in both games.

High? Beating more top 10 ranked teams than Florida

December 14th, 2009
11:19 am

At least we beat Ga tech, a top 10 ranked team, Fla couldn’t beat any top 10 ranked teams this year, so that’s a high.

Satchel Buzzkill must get his ideas from the same PR firm that helps Paul Johnson. At first, Johnson was all about how important the Georgia game was; then after losing it was not that important; then it was “Well, Georgia has not won anything since 1980.” Which signifies to me, as good a coach as Johnson is, he is a sore loser. On top of that, he just admitted that winning the ACC is NOTHING, considering Georgia has won 2 SEC titles in the last 6 years, where YECH has won absolutely nothing until this year…but remember, in Johnson’s eyes apparently a conference title means nothing.

All year long…yap, yap, yap….then you got your trap slammed shut.

Low Point Narrative: I rarely get to see UGA games so I drove to Stillwater with my son to watch the opening game. That loss may have set the tone for the year. I lost track of how many times this year someone said “just run the ball.” Then, when we committed to run the ball against Tech, it worked like magic. I am reserving my “High Point” selection pending the announcement of the new Defensive Coordinator.

Actually its a very good time to be a Fuzzy Bee…Like I posted before UGA has won 60 percent of the games in the past and 8 out of the last nine so congrats and move on. You are 1-1 against CPJ and all this talk about another 7 year run is so much nonsense. I am glad the game means something to both sides as well as that it does not define our season. Tech will win another NC before y’all do. Also is it a bit much to act for some maturity…suppose so as both sides have the village idiot…

My wish for next year…Tech 11-0 and ranked 2nd in the nation to the 11-0 Bulldogs and we beat y’all 56-3…now that would be a high point…

High Point. All the good wishes and support for my daughter Baylie in the Ultimate Fan Contest and the look on her face when she realized she had won. High point, the win over Auburn, AJ Green, Butler/Walsh and Ealey. I thought we had the talent to beat to Tech.

December 14th, 2009

Georgia has a lot ot be thankful for with Mark Richt.
-5 top 10 finishes in 1st 7 years
-60 wins in 6 years, 70 in 7
-4th winningest active coach in NCAA
-8th year in a row started the season ranked in top 20
-Nation’s longest streak of 8 or more wins, 12th year in a row
-Richt is one of 7 coaches in the history of the NCAA to get 80 wins in 8 years
-finished #2 in NCAA in 2007
-Should have been Natl Champs—we’re robbed by ESPN & LSU

Every great coach has a down year every few years: Carroll, Stoops, Bryant, Paterno, Bowden, etc.

High Point – Fighting hard through difficult season and beating Auburn for the 4th straight year. The GT win was big, but a win in that game is never unexpected. FYI, the Dawgs won a BCS Bowl game after beating the “injured” Tebow team in 2007 and won a New Years Bowl game in 2008 and thumped LSU at their place. All are bigger than the Tech win this year…

2007 Tennessee 35 Georgia 14

Tennessee finished the regular season with a 9-3 in overall record in 2007 and a 6-2 record in the SEC Eastern division. They tied with Georgia as champions of the SEC East, however, by virtue of a head-to-head victory over Georgia, the Volunteers were the SEC East representatives in the Championship Game.

Another high point: Paul Johnson losing his cool 1 year after making it known (words, rings, etc) that the UGA game was of uttermost importance to him. The excuses, telling GT fans to punch UGA fans in the face, talking about “bigger fish to fry” – all were hilarious. GT fans like to say Richt makes excuses, but he is nothing compared to Paul Johnson. Any time anything is said that he takes as close to a shot at his team, offense, etc he totally loses his cool. I just hope for GT fans that they haven’t “Charlie Weis’d” his with a contract through 2016. Back-to-back 7-8 wins seasons without wins over UGA will get the fan base pretty discouraged…

You people out there who somehow foresse a national championship in the next year or two are in serious need of a reality check.

The way things are going, Tennessee will win a NC before Georgia. Of course, it will probably be stripped later due to NCAA violations, but they’re on a much faster track right now.

At this point, even winning the east to play for the conference title is no foregone conclusion over the next 2 years.

Baby steps. Let’s settle for a return to competitiveness in conference. The no-shows against TN and FL must stop before we start thinking big.

Ed

December 14th, 2009
3:07 pm

Agree with the two choices, and would add the Florida game. We made Tennessee look like a national championship contender, and the Kentucky game was just the latest installment in a disturbing trend of collapsing for an entire half.

The Florida game now looks a lot worse because Alabama exposed Florida as a good, but not great team. You can’t chalk the SECCG up to “it was just Alabama’s day”, because this wasn’t a case of untimely turnovers or penalties ruining UF’s day – Alabama outclassed Florida in many different areas and was clearly the better team. Lesser teams than Alabama (Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi State) already showed us that Florida wasn’t all it was advertised to be – so why the 24-point beatdown in Jax? It has to be mental, or coaching, or a combo of both.

Why didn’t the ‘07 game turn the Ga.-UF mojo around? And why is Georgia suddenly so inept in Neyland Stadium against average-to-good UT teams that we used to OWN in the first part of the decade?

Let’s face it, even in the Georgia Tech game, you had the feeling that the wheels were coming off a bit in the second half. Thank God Johnson abandoned the run as early as he did, but let’s face it – if that Tech receiver hadn’t muffed that fourth down pass, things would have gotten real hairy for the Dawgs. I’m not sure we would have stopped them without a turnover or big penalty.

There seems to be a bad chemistry or mental state that infects this team in recent years. It’s as if the entire team has a panic attack against certain teams in certain settings. In other words, the complete opposite of what we saw in the first 4 years under Richt.

The defensive coaching hires will be key to turning this around, but it has to come from the top.

High point, definitely, the Tech game. Of course it hasn’t shut those bugs up, but we know that they know, they got whupped.

Low point – Tennessee. I still can’t believe that we let Cromwell, or whatever his name is, ‘bootleg’ our butts all day long. Even CMR said while headed to the locker-room at the half, and almost facetiously, ‘Duh? It’s stopping the roll-out, stupid’. Guess what, we didn’t and, I believe, that became the major straw that Richt never could get over when it came to Willie’s continued employment. It’s as if he, CMR, saw this as fundamental to playing defensive football, and our defense couldn’t adjust – not during the first half…not in the second…and not at all. Yes, this was my low point. Losing to Lame Lane.

The highpoint for me was the Auburn win. I didn’t see that one coming. The low point was the UT loss. I didn’t see that one coming either. Willie did the same thing I would have done by trying to make Crompton win the game for the Vols. Guess what, he did! IMO, The biggest problem amoung the many problens the Dawgs have, is special teams. Willie may not have made timely adjustments and he wasn’t very innovative, but he got precious little help from the special teams. I can imagine him hoping the directional kick would go out of bounds so at least the opposing O would be on their side of the fifty.

The High Points:
1. Wins over Auburn and Tech.
2. Win over Arkansas…behind a GREAT game by Joe Cox…after we looked so bad against OSU.
3. The kicking game (except the kickoff coverage).
4. The development of young running backs.
5. A.J. Green and Rennie Curran
6. Playing a STRONG OOC schedule, instead of “thump-a-chump” easy wins.

The Low Points:
1. Kentucky game.
2. The defense. (Defense? WHAT defense?)
3. Continuing to make the same mistakes…game-in and game-out…that we’ve been making over the last several years.
4. Coach Richt’s continuing infatuation with gimmick crap…especially involving uniform “variety”.
5. The lack of discipline…on the field and off.

High points: Seeing the Dawgs scapegoat Willie Martinez in true UGA fashion, it is always someone elses fault for a loss. It is either the refs, the coaches, or the uniforms. Next high point was reading the blogs prior to the Florida game and all the optimism yet during the Tech week most were jumping the Dawg ship. Lastly seeing next years QB choices not play one minute or the other catch punts and throw passes to Florida linebackers.

Low point: Seeing Mike Gillislee cramp up on that long run in the 4th quarter in Jacksonville.

Other low point. Yet more uniform gimmicks with the black pants and helmets vs. Florida. After the beating by the Bammers on Blackout night you woulda thought we would dispense with the uniform gimmicks for at least 5 years to let the memory of Blackout night from last season fade away a bit.

That’s quite a leap in logic. Someone thinks that because Bama played in Shreveport in 07 and will probably be the national champs this year that this logically means we will win the national title in 2011 because we played in Shreveport in 2009. Where do people come up with this kinda thinking? Mars?

Low Point – Watching Cox choke in the big games and CMR not having the guts to play one of the freshmen. Going to be a long year again next year with no one experienced at QB. Thank God there is no 5th year Senior for him to proclaim as a great leader and manager of the game.

1. Mark Richt has never had 2 bad seasons in a row. The last 2 were followed by either an 11-2 or 13 win season.
2. Mark Richt has never had 2 seasons in a row where both the offense and defense finished last in turnovers.
3. Mark Richt made excellent adjustments at 4-4, will go on to finish 4 out of 5, to finish 8-5.
4. 4 out of 5 of Georgia’s losses were self inflicted with 3 or 4 turnovers. Richt made good adjustments to that in the last 4 games, with the ex ception of Kentucky.
5. Richt has the 4th best winning % in the NCAA, 80 wins in 8 years, he’ll get Georgia t the top
6. Other teams have been to Shreveport and followed it up with a Natl Championship appearance in 1 to 2 years.
7. Georgia set a record in the Richt era for rushing in the Ga Tech game against the #7 ranked team in the country showing Richt gets it–he knows Georgia needs to run the ball more, and Georgia did in the last 5 games of 2009.
8. Richt coached up 2 different QB’s at FSU to Heisman’s and Natl Championships. Richt should have gone to the Natl Championship a few years back instead of LSU–he earned it.

Hands down, that 2nd half of football against Kentucky was the low point of the season not only for this Georgia team, but for any Georgia team of the last 50 years. That pitch/handoff from Cox to Ealey has to be one of the most bonehead plays in UGA annals. I doubt if Loren himself ever saw anything worse than that. How we bounced back to beat Tech has to be the 8th wonder of the world. Go figure!

Kentucky Low

December 15th, 2009

The Kentucky low wasn’t the Cox-Ealey fumble, that didn’t deal the game, UGA still had a chance after that. But then the defense holds to a 3 and out, and on the next offensive series the pick where Cox tried to hit Caleb King on the next series and Caleb got picked again—that waa a low. Caleb should have at least fought for Cox abd broke up the INT. That Int sealed the Kentucky game.

The high point of the season is shutting down the Tech bragging of the past year along with the few Tech fans still on the UGA blogs trying to say that the loss doesn’t matter and how they’re so much better than us. Too funny. Since when is an 11-2 record that beat up on a weak ACC schedule impressive? It reminds me of the 1984 BYU 12-0 team that won the national title by sweeping a totally weak schedule, including an unranked 6-5 Michigan team (6-6 after the loss) for the championship except for the fact that our unranked 6-5 UGA team (7-5 after the win) kicked their 11-1 (11-2 after the loss) butts!

December 17th, 2009
9:03 am

This is sooooo sweet!! For ages UGA fans have shouted that TECH means absolutely NOTHING to them and yet in two short years they have learned that TECH now means EVERYTHING to them. A loss last year over the preseason #1 pick in their dogyard against the brightest stars the program has had in years – and their win this year at our nothing stadium with their nobodies that, by your own admission, defined your season and gave you a chance to complete a woeful 7 – 5 record and have a chance at a second tier bowl game. That’s just plain pathetic and sniveling. You are extremely lucky CPJ put the emphasis on the ACC championship rather than you dogs – something that absolutely will not happen again. Be objective and think about what has happened in these two years – the directions both programs are going – who’s playing in what bowl and who’s ranked where. These are all a sign of things to continue. Beating TECH a high point – I’ve got to hand it to you – congratulations. For it to be the high point of your season and a program defining win – that’s a sign of a program going down hill quickly.

First of all beating the state rival is always a good thing and yes it is even sweeter when they are having a good season while your season is not. This being the high of the season doesn’t mean it is a defining program moment. However, for you who have lost to UGA yet again you still remain in a dream world where you think the insects are on the way up the food chain. You lost understand. A loss does not take you up it takes you down.
If CPJ was more focused on the ACC championship that just shows poor coaching. Seems to me that CPJ calling on insect fans to punch UGA fans in the face really shows who looks at their loss as a program’s defining moment. The high school offense want last long and CPJ will be out in a few years and you will be looking for the next jester to come coach your poor excuse of a football team. Looking forward to you loss to Iowa in the Little Cuba Bowl in Miami!

Orange Bowl NOT SOLD OUT. Independence Bowl for UGA, is SOLD OUT.

1990 Georgia Tech did NOT play in any MAJOR BOWL game.

Georgia Tech has NOT even played in a MAJOR BOWL game in 43 years.

43 years.

And, you cannot sell out the Orange Bowl.

Pitiful Georgia Tech fans (both of you.)

Georgia Tech has played in 13 Consecutive Bowl Games, but Tech has LOST more than HALF THE GAMES, 7 losses, 5 wins.

5-7 last 13 bowl games for Georgia Tech.

1955 is the last time Georgia Tech WON A MAJOR BOWL GAME.

54 YEARS SINCE GEORGIA TECH WON A MAJOR BOWL GAME.

22-15-0 Georgia Tech All-Time in Bowl Games – MOSTLY CRUDDY BOWL GAMES.

25-16-3 UGA All-Time in Bowl Games.

UGA WON MAJOR BOWL JUST 2 YEARS AGO, SUGAR BOWL to end up Number 2 in the Final AP Poll.

UGA also in MAJOR BOWL just 4 years ago.

UGA ALSO WON ANOTHER MAJOR BOWL JUST 7 YEARS AGO.

UGA has been to EIGHT (8) MAJOR BOWL GAMES SINCE GEORGIA TECH LAST WAS IN A MAJOR BOWL GAME.

.602 Winning Percentage in Bowl Games for UGA.

.595 winning percentage in bowl games for Tech.

13th Bowl Game in a Row for both UGA and Georgia Tech.

5-7 Georgia Tech is 5-7 in these 13 consecutive bowl games.

10-2 UGA is 10-2 in these 13 Consecutive Bowl Games.

Don’t give me this crap that Georgia Tech is great in bowl games.

There is NO COMPARISON.

1990 ORANGE BOWL COLORADO BEAT NOTRE DAME. Georgia Tech was NOT EVEN INVITED.

Georgia Tech has NEVER BEEN RANKED NUMBER ONE (1) IN THE FINAL AP POLL.

Georgia Tech has had SEVEN (7) SEASONS IN WHICH GEORGIA TECH LOST EVERY GAME.

UGA HAS WON THE ORANGE BOWL MORE RECENTLY THAN GEORGIA TECH HAS.

Georgia Tech has played 6 games against teams NOT EVEN IN A BOWL GAME.

FAR AND AWAY THE STINKIEST SCHEDULE OF ANY TEAM IN AMERICA.

10 hours 668 miles to Shreveport Louisiana. I-20 West. UGA has been in The Independence Bowl 1 time and we Won 18 years ago. Georgia Tech has never been in The Independence Bowl.

Louisiana Boardwalk on the Red River known for its 5 Riverboat Casinos, films, Blues Music, and Classic Southern City Charm was the last stronghold of The South in the War of Northern Aggression. Sea level 40 to 60 degrees, and rain.

What would Georgia Tech fans (both of you) know about The Independence Bowl when Tech has never been there.

5-7 Bowl Record Georgia Tech last 13 bowl games in a row now.

10-2 Bowl Record UGA last 13 bowl games in a row now.

Even if Georgia Tech wins your bowl game this season, you will be 6-7 LOSING RECORD.

So quit all this B.S. about Tech being in a bowl game 12 years in a row before this year.

At least we all get to watch Tebow in the next “TeBowl Ball Hoggin Spectacular” keep the ball to himself and not hand off a single time to a teammate in the ENTIRE 2ND HALF for ONE MORE GAME!!!! A Few GT Stats

December 18th, 2009
11:06 pm

Just to show BuLLdawg that stats can be used both ways:

- Tech has had 7 seasons without a win…the last being 1902 so who cares

- georgiadogs.com has your bowl record at 22-16-3 and not 25-16-3 (don’t care which is correct, either you are an moron or the official UGA football site is run by idiots)

- Finally on to national championships. I may have to dumb this down for all of you dawg fans that bleed red and black but didn’t even graduate from high school. (On a side note, I think most UGA fans that graduated from there are decent enough. The problem with UGA is that you have so many fans that have an IQ equivalent to a box of rocks that never went there. These morons are what truly gives UGA fans a bad rep. This is a problem that plagues most SEC schools.)

Back to national championships…If Johnny has 4 dawg bones and he gives 2 of his bones to Billy, then how many dawg bones does Johnny have left?

I know it’s tough but think it through…

That’s right, Johnny would only have 2 dawg bones left. So we have determined that 4 is more than 2.

Nobody remembers who came in second and we have more championships than you. Our most recent championship is also more recent than yours.

Here Is How the Play-off in 1-A football would look, if applied to this season :

THESE GAMES WOULD HAVE PLAYED LAST SATURDAY 12/12:

8-Team Play-off touted by so many :

Play-off Round :

1 ALABAMA vs 8 Ohio State.

5 Boise State vs 4 Cincinnati

6 Florida vs 3 TCU

7 Oregon vs 2 Texas

THESE GAMES WOULD BE PLAYING TODAY 12/19:

Semi-finals :

1 ALABAMA vs 4 Cincinnati

6 Florida vs 2 Texas.

This sport is so screwed up. Obviously, I believe that Florida would destroy Texas, and that The SEC would have a Alabama vs. Florida TITLE GAME. The other conferences are so fearful of this, that they cannot allow this.

The 2nd part of this is, what does the Rose Bowl have ? Iowa vs Arizona ?

What does the Sugar Bowl have ? LSU against whom ?

What does this leave the Orange Bowl with ? Penn State vs Georgia Tech ?

What does this leave the Fiesta Bowl with ? Oklahoma State against whom ?

The object of college football is to play in the easiest conference possible, win all your games, be ranked therefore at the top of the polls, and get your brains kicked in by The SEC the same as every other year.

I always figured we could co-exist the bowls with a Play-off.

Putting it to paper, it doesn’t look possible.

Have you figured out how many SEC teams win their bowl games again this year ?

8 SEC Bowl Wins.

There are 3 Conferences who LOSE 6 bowl games : Big East Big XII and Big 10.

If the Conference has a BIG in its name, it will LOSE 6 bowl games.

SEC wins 8 bowl games.

Since I cannot apply an 8-team Play-off to the bowl schedule this season, we should just have a 16-team Play-off and cause complete upheaval by having all 34 bowls bid on having those games at their bowl.

But, you are not going to have more than 1 good game New Year’s Day. And, New Year’s Eve will be no good game.

I really hate the way 1-A football is set up, especially the BCS. I do like the bowl games, and I want a Play-off.

Tech Fan,

Think, for just a minute, about the argument you are making, referring to UGA’s victory over GT 30-24:
“For it to be the high point of your season and a program defining win – that’s a sign of a program going down hill quickly.

You are acknowledging that beating Tech doesn’t mean anything, in your mind, because Tech is a worthless program, not worthy of any respect. What you don’t get (among many things) is that any time Tech loses it is a good thing for UGA fans. On top of that, getting to beat the best Tech team in the last 19 years on Tech’s home field in front of their pathetic, miserable fans was a thing of beauty. It WAS something for UGA fans to get excited about; every Dawg fan already acknowledges that this was not a good season for us, and we’re smart enough to realize that beating a #7 ranked team does mean something.

Remember, as has been pointed out many times, YOU Tech fans are the ones coming on a Dawg blog, obsessing about UGA and trying to win poorly thought out arguments. No matter what you say and how you want to brag about the Orange Bowl, you know that Georgia owns you this year (30-24) and forever (60-36-5).

The conversation went like this…Adams and Dooley to Rick: Mark we MUST beat Florida if we are to compete each year for the SEC or National Championship…it’s a MUST win…the most important win. It has been Georgia’s biggest problem the past 10 years…that’s what we are hiring you to do. Understand? Richt to Adams&Dooley from CMR…yes, I understand.
