A season’s high points, low points

bulldogMark Richt is still searching for a new defensive coordinator, the players have exams and I’m on vacation this week, but that’s no reason for the discussion of all things Georgia football to stop here.

I’ll get you started by asking what you think the high points and low points were in this disappointing season. I’m guessing the win at Tech tops many people’s lists of high points, but there are others: the emergence of a running game late in the season for one.

Low points? So many to choose from, but I’m stuck on picking which was worse: the domination by the Vols in Knoxville or the Dogs’ second-half collapse against Kentucky.

Anyway, comment away, but keep it clean and civil, please. And the Blawg will return next week.

Go Dogs!

Hands down, that 2nd half of football against Kentucky was the low point of the season not only for this Georgia team, but for any Georgia team of the last 50 years. That pitch/handoff from Cox to Ealey has to be one of the most bonehead plays in UGA annals. I doubt if Loren himself ever saw anything worse than that. How we bounced back to beat Tech has to be the 8th wonder of the world. Go figure!

Kentucky Low

December 15th, 2009
10:26 pm

The Kentucky low wasn’t the Cox-Ealey fumble, that didn’t deal the game, UGA still had a chance after that. But then the defense holds to a 3 and out, and on the next offensive series the pick where Cox tried to hit Caleb King on the next series and Caleb got picked again—that waa a low. Caleb should have at least fought for Cox abd broke up the INT. That Int sealed the Kentucky game.

Season High: Cox Beats Tebow

Highlight of 2009

Joe Cox beats Tebow in 2009 in TD’s, Yards, and gives up 50% less sacks

Cox also throws for more yards than Tebow in the Georgia-Florida game.

The last time Georgia had a recuriting year like the #4 ranked by espn 2010 class was 2006 when Richt had a #4 ranked class. The next year, 2007, the dogs finished #2 in the country. We havn’t had a class ranked this high since 2006.

High Point – Watching AJ pull out a win over LSU in the last seconds.
Low Point – Watching the officials take away the win and hand it to LSU with the two ensuring penalties.

Yeah, the bowl in Shreveport is really a springboard to the National Championship. Let’s see, last year it was Louisiana Tech and Northern Illinois…so I guess they will share the NC next year, since neither managed to quite make it this year….dream on, delusional dawg brethren. We WILL be all right, but this is a rebuilding phase, folks…wake up and realize it.

The high point of the season is shutting down the Tech bragging of the past year along with the few Tech fans still on the UGA blogs trying to say that the loss doesn’t matter and how they’re so much better than us. Too funny. Since when is an 11-2 record that beat up on a weak ACC schedule impressive? It reminds me of the 1984 BYU 12-0 team that won the national title by sweeping a totally weak schedule, including an unranked 6-5 Michigan team (6-6 after the loss) for the championship except for the fact that our unranked 6-5 UGA team (7-5 after the win) kicked their 11-1 (11-2 after the loss) butts!

Where are all the All-American's?

December 16th, 2009

It’s pretty sad when the ONLY All-American that Georgia could muster is a freak’n kicker. Boy – that’s says a lot about the so-called Top 5 recruiting classes that GA claims to have had over the last 8 years. LMAO – Go Gators

Florida Gatorette,

You just wouldn’t understand. It’s about TEAM with UGA baby. 80 wins in 8 years. That’s all the awards we needs to know. UGA was Natl Champs in 2007. Gator Tebow gets a Hesiman gfor finishing #23 for rushing and #58 for passing–whatever—he’s not the BEST at 1 single college QB stat in the NCAA.

TE bow in the SEC TE–BOWL, forgot to hand it to a teammate in the ENTIRE 2ND HALF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gatorette, you just wouldn’t understand, but Bama did, and they kicked your gatorette behind up and down that field.

“High point-Watching Spurrier realize again that maybe he should have changed the way he treated people over the years as he watched his team go up in flames against the team he hates the most-UGA”

You have to be kidding. Spurrier took a team with 20 freshmen on the two deep and almost beat our sorry butts. It’s going to hurt when he wins the east in 2010.

TECH FAN

December 17th, 2009

This is sooooo sweet!! For ages UGA fans have shouted that TECH means absolutely NOTHING to them and yet in two short years they have learned that TECH now means EVERYTHING to them. A loss last year over the preseason #1 pick in their dogyard against the brightest stars the program has had in years – and their win this year at our nothing stadium with their nobodies that, by your own admission, defined your season and gave you a chance to complete a woeful 7 – 5 record and have a chance at a second tier bowl game. That’s just plain pathetic and sniveling. You are extremely lucky CPJ put the emphasis on the ACC championship rather than you dogs – something that absolutely will not happen again. Be objective and think about what has happened in these two years – the directions both programs are going – who’s playing in what bowl and who’s ranked where. These are all a sign of things to continue. Beating TECH a high point – I’ve got to hand it to you – congratulations. For it to be the high point of your season and a program defining win – that’s a sign of a program going down hill quickly.

Low Point for Gators....things get worse...

High Point- beat teach, real opportunity for a great season next year.

Low point- the D.Just read in the Athnes paper how a lot of players are not excited about Shreveport. YOU PLAYERS HAD YOUR CHANCE!! YOU UNDERACHIEVED UNBELIEVABLY SO MUCH. You can easily blame martinez all you like. Fact is the PLAYERS WHO SAID THEY LIKED MARTINEZ SO MUCH WER THE WORST TEAM OF D I EVER SAW AT UGA. YOU PLAYERS COST HIM HIS JOB. HE MIGHT NOT BE GREAT, BUT WAS NOT SO BAD AS TO SCHEME OPEN RECEIVERS EVERY PLAY ALL YEAR- YOU PLAYERS DID THAT!!!!!

PLAYERS SHOULD HAVE LEARNED THEIR LESSON LONG AGO. THEN AGAIN IN 07. THOS WHO PLAYED THEN SORRIED OUT- CHOKED- AGAINST S CARO AND TN, OR UGA WOULD HAVE WON A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. YOU D UNDERACHEIVED IN 08, AND MOST OF 09. FINALLY WITH AUBURN YOU SHOWED LIFE. THE YOU LET NFL QUALIT KENTUCKY BEAT YOU.

TO ALL YOU RETURING PLAYERS: DO ME AND UGA A FAVOR. CHANGFE YOUR ATTITUDE OR DO NOT COMOE BACK!!!!!!!IF I AM WORNG GO PUBLIC- TELL THE WHOLE WORLD WHEN MARTINEZ TOLD YOU TO LET EVERY RECIEVER OPEN BY 10 YARDS ALL YEAR LONG. TELL THE PUBLIC WHEN THE LINE COACH TOLD YOU TO IGNORE THE SNAP COUNT, ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL, ETC.

UGA PLAYERS GOT WHAT THEY DESERVE- EXTREME MEDIOCRITY.

Tech Fan

First of all beating the state rival is always a good thing and yes it is even sweeter when they are having a good season while your season is not. This being the high of the season doesn’t mean it is a defining program moment. However, for you who have lost to UGA yet again you still remain in a dream world where you think the insects are on the way up the food chain. You lost understand. A loss does not take you up it takes you down.
If CPJ was more focused on the ACC championship that just shows poor coaching. Seems to me that CPJ calling on insect fans to punch UGA fans in the face really shows who looks at their loss as a program’s defining moment. The high school offense want last long and CPJ will be out in a few years and you will be looking for the next jester to come coach your poor excuse of a football team. Looking forward to you loss to Iowa in the Little Cuba Bowl in Miami!

Funny that Yech fans think we’re proud of ourselves for doing what we’ve done for years in our sleep. You tools are only catching hell for it since you all started to believe your own lies. You thought you were world beaters for barely beating us last year, and you drowned yourselves in your own koolaid. Your best team couldn’t even handle one of our worse.

This is clearly a sign that your overrated, overwhelmed, overpaid and overweight coach isn’t all that he’s cracked up to be. Look for an even worse beating next year. We may even play our best player against you next time

All you people bashing the Dawgs, I want you to remember the Gatorade bath at the end of the Tech game because I saw more fire in Coach Richt than I had seen in a long time. It doesn’t matter who the DC is. For UGA to be successful Coach Richt has got to show the fire and leadership he showed at the Tech game. That gatorade bath is a sign of whats coming. Orange Bowl NOT SOLD OUT. Independence Bowl for UGA, is SOLD OUT.

1990 Georgia Tech did NOT play in any MAJOR BOWL game.

Georgia Tech has NOT even played in a MAJOR BOWL game in 43 years.

43 years.

And, you cannot sell out the Orange Bowl.

Pitiful Georgia Tech fans (both of you.)

Georgia Tech has played in 13 Consecutive Bowl Games, but Tech has LOST more than HALF THE GAMES, 7 losses, 5 wins.

5-7 last 13 bowl games for Georgia Tech.

1955 is the last time Georgia Tech WON A MAJOR BOWL GAME.

54 YEARS SINCE GEORGIA TECH WON A MAJOR BOWL GAME.

22-15-0 Georgia Tech All-Time in Bowl Games – MOSTLY CRUDDY BOWL GAMES.

25-16-3 UGA All-Time in Bowl Games.

UGA WON MAJOR BOWL JUST 2 YEARS AGO, SUGAR BOWL to end up Number 2 in the Final AP Poll.

UGA also in MAJOR BOWL just 4 years ago.

UGA ALSO WON ANOTHER MAJOR BOWL JUST 7 YEARS AGO.

UGA has been to EIGHT (8) MAJOR BOWL GAMES SINCE GEORGIA TECH LAST WAS IN A MAJOR BOWL GAME.

.602 Winning Percentage in Bowl Games for UGA.

.595 winning percentage in bowl games for Tech.

13th Bowl Game in a Row for both UGA and Georgia Tech.

5-7 Georgia Tech is 5-7 in these 13 consecutive bowl games.

10-2 UGA is 10-2 in these 13 Consecutive Bowl Games.

Don’t give me this crap that Georgia Tech is great in bowl games.

There is NO COMPARISON.

1990 ORANGE BOWL COLORADO BEAT NOTRE DAME. Georgia Tech was NOT EVEN INVITED.

Georgia Tech has NEVER BEEN RANKED NUMBER ONE (1) IN THE FINAL AP POLL.

Georgia Tech has had SEVEN (7) SEASONS IN WHICH GEORGIA TECH LOST EVERY GAME.

UGA HAS WON THE ORANGE BOWL MORE RECENTLY THAN GEORGIA TECH HAS.

Georgia Tech has played 6 games against teams NOT EVEN IN A BOWL GAME.

FAR AND AWAY THE STINKIEST SCHEDULE OF ANY TEAM IN AMERICA.

10 hours 668 miles to Shreveport Louisiana. I-20 West. UGA has been in The Independence Bowl 1 time and we Won 18 years ago. Georgia Tech has never been in The Independence Bowl.

Louisiana Boardwalk on the Red River known for its 5 Riverboat Casinos, films, Blues Music, and Classic Southern City Charm was the last stronghold of The South in the War of Northern Aggression. Sea level 40 to 60 degrees, and rain.

What would Georgia Tech fans (both of you) know about The Independence Bowl when Tech has never been there.

5-7 Bowl Record Georgia Tech last 13 bowl games in a row now.

10-2 Bowl Record UGA last 13 bowl games in a row now.

Even if Georgia Tech wins your bowl game this season, you will be 6-7 LOSING RECORD.

So quit all this B.S. about Tech being in a bowl game 12 years in a row before this year.

Georgia Tech has LOST 7 OF YOUR LAST 10 BOWL GAMES.
