For the second straight year, overnight ratings dropped double-digits for the ACC Championship Game.

Georgia Tech’s victory over Clemson drew a mere 1.9 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday night, down 35% from a 2.9 for last year’s Virginia Tech/Boston College game, and down 55% from a 4.2 for Virginia Tech/Boston College in ‘07. Both of those games aired on Saturday afternoons on ABC.

The 1.9 overnight rating is the lowest in the five-year history of the ACC Championship Game, the second straight year the game has drawn a record low.

Head-to-head, the ACC Championship Game was outdrawn by 300% by the Big 12 Championship Game on ABC (7.6 to 1.9).

Can you say, embarassing?

Jealous Puppies are Pathetic
You can call me “pathetic”, but at least I am not stupid. I am not “obsessed” with Tech; I just find it funny that you’ve finally managed to play in a BSC game. UGA has already had the joy of playing in 3, welcome to the show, act like you’ve been here before… The ACC is weak, you can’t argue that, no one outside of Atlanta cares about GT; you’re delusional and simple minded if you believe anything else. I am glad you hate me, I am sure you hate the fact I am more intelligent, have a better Job, and will always root for a football team far superior to your’s. Can you do us all a favor and “spell check”. “you’re” nothing but trash, and it shows how jealous you truly are. The cops just stopped Caleb king doing 90 on I-75 on his way to another Georgia 1st down.

WE DAWG FANS LOVE LOVE LOVE HAVING YOU TECHIES COME ON HERE AND TALK ABOUT YOUR LITTLE ORANGE BOWL, BY FAR THE WORST OF THE BCS BOWLS. IF LOUISIANA MONROE PAYED IN THE ACC, THEY WOULD BE PREPPING FOR THE ORANGE BOWL AS WELL.

HAVING YOU HERE TALKING ABOUT “11-2″ AND “ORANGE BOWL THIS AND THAT”, SHOWS HOW MISERABLE YOU ARE THAT YOU LOST TO THE BEST TEAM IN THE GREAT STATE OF GEORGIA. I LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING YOU HERE FOR THE NEXT YEAR, SO WE CAN CONSTANTLY REMIND YOU OF 3 LITTLE THINGS……..

Spoiled Dawgs… You are correct, as a matter of fact we are lower than all of those teams you listed. Turnovers and penalties can ruin a season…But using the same logic would make Tech the 7th best team in the SEC…Behind Bama, Florida, LSU, Kentucky, Tenn, and Georgia.

The worst team to come out of athens in a decade, beat the best team Atlanta has seen since 1991…

I don’t recall seeing anyone claiming to be proud of what we saw from UGA this year. The Dawgs were Undisciplined on both sides of the ball, a horrible defense and subpar play in the secondary, and Skills positions caused for a serious break down. I won’t attempt to discredit what GT managed to do this past year in the ACC. The only thing that matters in this scenario is UGA beat GT in a head to head match-up. Hope GT enjoys the Orange bowl, I am sure the extra money can be used to beef up campus police, and incentives for tech games.

The facts of the matter are that while you are going to the Orange bowl you have a seriously bitter taste in your mouth about the fact that the worst Dawgs team in a decade beat the best maggot team in a decade, in their own building. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Georgia won the game over Tech because of a dropped 4th down pass. Enjoy it – that’s the only bright spot on your miserable, pathetic year. Enjoy the P.O.S. bowl that you’re going to.

We’re still 11-2, going to the Orange bowl, will end up 12-2, ranked in the top 5 of the country. The tide has turned. Tech will now get more of the top players in the state. Of course, the players that don’t even know how to spell UGA will still go to Georgia (Tech won’t even recruit them).

What do you have? A single #25 vote placed by Bowden as a sympathy vote. Pretty sad when an 80 year old man has to give you a sympathy vote.

Georgia got 1 vote total. Body of work guys. The sting from the Georgia loss lasted one night. Then Tech dropped from 7th to 10th in the BCS. Now ranked 9th in the BCS and playing in the Orange Bowl not in Shreveport. You guys need to soak in your past glory becuase Johnson is 1-1 and you guys know you were holding your breath on the last drive waiting for another defensive melt down.Georgia will never “I repeat never” compete with Alabama and Florida for the SEC Championship which means they will not see another BCS invite in your lifetime.

Kinda like you beat us last year for the first time in a long time, you are going to a better bowl than us for the first time in a long time.

December 11th, 2009

Dawg Fans,
Why is ragging on Tech the only thing that happens on this blog? We won the game,so why the discussion? The truth is, we aren’t really better than tech this year. To be good you need to be consistent. We were better on one Saturday, but they were the more consistent program. We have the potential to beat anybody in the country, but we also have the potential to lose to anybody. With our top ten recruiting classes we shouldn’t even be in close games with GT, who almost never recruits top 25 classes. Has it really come to this? Hopefully, we’ll get a top defensive coordinator and Murray will come along quickly so that our seasons are once again defined by SEC success and not a win over an ACC team (a conference we deem beneath us).
Here’s hoping for better times…

Ya know, we Dawg fans all agree about this being UGA’s worst season in a decade, undiciplined, mistake prone, soft and poorly-coached defense, etc. But, even with all that, our manhandling of the Jacket just makes me wonder what the Dawgs record would be, if we had played Tech’s schedule. I mean, look at it…. Three losses max, maybe only two – Miami & VT. Clemson would be close. The rest would be like playing Vandy and Tenn Tech every Saturday.

Really, dude? That’s what you saw? I am a Tech fan, and when GA missed the field goal late, I thought Tech would come back. YOU saw them drop a 4th down pass and that was it? For close to 4 quarters, what I saw was a Tech defense that was just not strong enough or big enough to keep a team from jamming it down their throat with the run. They got physically manhandled…straight and simple. Deal with it.

Real Tech folks ( actual grads ) are somewhat intelligent. Somewhat. They ( grads ) know that the REAL DROPPED TD in the UGA game was the one that Rontavious Wooten muffed. He was full stride and Jumpin Joe Cox’s ball hit him in his hands. If he holds on it was an easy 45 yd stirke for TD !!! That game would’ve been around 21- 0 and game over, given UGA’s easyy, easy, easy ability to run the ball on tech’s sad D team.

Your drop in the 4th? Who is to say that on the next play you fumble, or throw a pic 6. Very iffy that particular drop. Maybe Nesbitt ( he got 44 ) would have been sacked and sacked and sacked.

A full stride receiver like Wooten was 45 yds from the goal is easier to predict as a TD.

Remember, UGA was a lousy, lousy SEC team and we still physically put a whiipin on the boys from The Flats. 30-24 and 1-8 and 4-14 and more to come. It was a pysical whuppin from a NON PHYSICAL UGA team. THAT IS WHAT IS EATING AT YOU SO CALLED TECHERS. HAHAHAHAHA

Reality Check

December 11th, 2009
11:05 am

The Dawgs currently have bigger fish to fry than GT. Most of the last decade the GT game has been an afterthought for UGA. However, after last year and for close to 11 weeks this season all we heard from GT fans and AJC columnist JS and MB was how UGA was gonna look up to the Jackets as long as CPJ was there. The game only served up humble pie to the yellow jacket faithful and AJC columnist, who are not aware that the game was played yet and GT lost 30-24. We look forward to Defensive Coaching changes that will define our season next year. With a talented Quarterback in Murray (Hopefully) and some new juice in DC should make a ton of difference if we get the right guy, to light the players up when the make stupid mistakes like personal fouls, etc. I also believe a new Defensive attitude will carry over to the Offensive side of the ball. You have to admire Alabama their offensive mirrors their toughness on defense.

UGA has a lot more tougher competitors year in year out to worry about than GT. Alabama, Florida and LSU come to mind. GT fans enjoy the least watched Orange Bowl in the last 50 years.

Braggin' Rights

Dawgin’ GT is clean, old fashioned fun. That’s what happens, when you beat a program 7 of 8 years. It’s kind of therapeutic for all the 45-42 talk posted here for the last 300+ days. I think it is great the way all you band-wagon jumping puppy fans have unknowingly admitted that in 2 short years Tech and CPJ has caught and passed CMR and his underachieving pups. What you say???
Before the ‘08 game, a win over Tech was EXPECTED, and delivered 7 straight years. Now look at all the blogs… you are beating your chest like King Kong because you beat Ga. Tech. You are proud, because you know you beat the best team in the state, JUST AS TECH FANS WERE LAST YEAR AS THE BATON WAS PASSED. There is NO DOUBT that GT has the better team, and by ACC standards losing to UGa was like losing to Maryland or Virginia. Whether you want to admit it or not, GT IS the better program right now, and yes, you can be proud that you have finally beaten a GOOD team this season. You only played 4 GOOD teams, and your team was not man enough to line up and beat Ok. State, Florida, or LSU. They needed a SIGNATURE WIN to sugarcoat the season, and they finally got one. One last thing, the pups did dominate the game, but won by ONLY 6 points, and had Thomas not dropped that pass late, YOU WOULD HAVE LOST THE GAME 31-30. When the score was 30-17 that was my prediction, and it almost happened. In other words, you came within a dropped pass of a 6-6 record, and not getting that signature win. You have bragging rights for the next year, but the bottom line is as long as CPJ is the coach, GT will win MORE than their share of games with the pups.

I for one am a believer that our decisions today will affect us years into the future. Keeping CWM the past two seasons will affect us for at least two more years. By then, CMR will be on the hot seat.
Kirby knows this, and with a couple more years under Saban, will be a leading candidate for HC. Smart will coach at UGA….as HC.
He also knows that if he comes to UGA know, he would only ressurrect the program….and CMR would get all the credit. OR, comes to UGA and not be able to correct the damage done, thus tarnishing his resume’.

And for the record, I like gimmicks when they work. Ha ha. The last few times UGA wore black, things didn;t turn out so well. But, the original Blackout was awesome. For all you Tech folks thinking this is the beginning of the end: Just remember that USC & OK both had subpar years. Programs go through this from time to time. No point in us worrying about it. Enjoy your bowl….

Now for some real talk:
I was thinking about the Kirby Smart situation and it reminded me of something that happened years ago where one of our managers went to work for another company for a few years and came back, got a big promotion, etc. Now this is stretching it a bit far, but what if Richt and Smart had this planned all along? Maybe Richt sent Smart to learn from Satan for a few years since he probably knew he wouldn’t get that much from little willie. Richt himself said that he’s been thinking about the defensive problems for years. Maybe he knew soon after willie took over that willie didn’t really have the imagination to run a good defense. Hey, he picked BVG over willie even though willie was his best friend, so he knew who had it and who didn’t. Something else that sort of bothers me is that there has been very little word from the media on candidates. Usually SOMETHING leaks out, like when willie was about to get fired. Richt didn’t even bother naming Garner as the interim DC for the bowl game. You would think the only defensive staffer left would be running the defense. Richt or Damon said years ago when BVG left that they keep a list of potential hires for just in case, so they must already have their person lined up. Me thinks that Richt has to wait until the BCS championship is over before suddenly declaring that Smart has agreed to come back to UGA as the defensive coordinator. Talk about how great Bama is all you want, but there really isn’t much difference (other than history) between the two programs. And there are more recruits to pick from in GA than AL, plus it is the guy’s alma mater (didn’t mean much to Dooley though!). And it would be a big feather in his cap if he revived a defense that was near the bottom of the conference to one at the top.

The more i think about willie m the madder i get. I remember at the beginning of the season when the dawg tackles talked about playing a 3-4 and willie said they would NEVER play a 3-4! If you have three 300+ pound studs at tackle, a short of DEs, and a bunch of linebackers that you were trying to make rush ends, why NOT play a 3-4 defense? Take some of those guys like Washington and have them zone blitz instead of sitting the bench. Imagine if we had an attacking 3-4 defense instead of that old 4-3 that couldn’t put pressure on anybody? Richt was pretty sure willie was the problem years ago, but his loyalty (or Smart hadn’t learned enough yet) wouldn’t let him pull the trigger last year.
I know it’s wishful thinking Smart would come here, but stranger things have happened. Hey, Notre Dame basically just hired another Weis – Offensive genius with no defense. Kelly will be walking the plank in five years.

And what is so funny about that is that I said back in September that Cox was not a leader, and the team was wasting all those splendid running backs. It took a stumbling and bumbling 11 games for CMR to finally figure it out. If the pups played Tech’s “high school offense”, they might be something like 10-2 or 11-1. The strength of the team is their running backs. Even a novice like me could see that.

Why can’t Georgia fans understand that last year our win over them was ALL that mattered? Not the fact they they were 10-3 and we were 9-4. Now this year ALL that matters is that we are 10-2 and they are 7-5. It don’t matter that they whipped us like a bunch of schoolgirls with a freshman running back getting almost 200 yards and a sophomore running back also rushing for close to 200 yards. And the way their pitiful defense shut us down don’t matter either. ALL that matters is we will play Iowa in the Bowl that will receive the lowest TV rating of ALL time and have MORE empty seats than any other Bowl in history. I knew I should of stayed at Navy!!

JMac,
I can admit that I was WRONG about Joe Cox. I believed that he was ready to step up and lead this to at least 9 wins. Maybe it was wishful thinking, but as it turned out, my analysis was very incorrect. It happens. I agree, the strength of UGA is the running backs. But, traditionally speaking, that’s how it should be. The Dawgs should “Run this State!” Ha ha.

What scares me about next season, is the fact that the Dawgs will once again be very inexperienced at the QB position. That ain’t good. I just hope that whoever the starter is, will at least provide better ball security than Cox did. His picks really hurt UGA in 09. But, so did poor play on special teams and defense. Unlike a lot of fans, I don’t blame all of the Dawgs’ flaws on Willie Martinez. Why? Because I don’t have enough knowledge of the situation to start throwing stones at any of the coaches.
But, there might be an opportunity for Georgia’s staff to better prepare their players/motivate them and instruct them to play more disciplined football in 2010. Just look at the penalties.

We can’t even get any respect from our own head coach. It really sucks to be a puppy this year. I think we might be licking Jacket butt for a while they way things are looking right now. Boy, it really sucks to be a UGA puppy. We can’t beat Florida, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, or Kentucky. Not bad for a gt game. Sort of sux for a BCS conference though. This is how it’s going to play out:

CMR is going to give Coach G a chance to be the “DC” for this bowl game. If the D steps up against a pretty good offensive football team in AnM, Coach G is named the DC. Kinda like CMR did with Bobo after the win in the CFA bowl against VaTech (another team from the ACC that has lost to Georgia under CMR). Coach G hires the rest of his defensive staff. If Coach G has success and the D is improved, as it should be with all of the talent coming in next year, he’s gone w/in 2 years to be a HC which is his ultimate goal.

Kirby isn’t coming here. Muschamp just got a new deal with Texas that renews his contract anually until Brown moves on which is essentially like a long term contract in addition to the C-I-W clause.

bigdawg88, K-State finished the year with 2 linebackers playing DT..literally…they weighed in at about 235-240.. i think that had alot to do with the way the finished up.. i do know last year under a different DC, they gave up 450 yds/game and 34 pts/game and this year, with Koenning and basically the same personnel, they gave up 300 yds/game and 24 pts/game,,with those 3 high scoring games included.. they also more than doubled their sack totals from last year.. and if you look around, a whole lot of very coaches coached under bill snyder,, bob stoops, mike stoops, gary patterson, guys who know defense..

I’m not so sure Coach Garner is so much and Xs & Os guy as much as he’s a very good recruiter. In the past when teams were looking to steal him away (Auburn and Tenn.) it wasn’t as a DC. That’s why CMR made him Asst. Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.

Tony Ball is as equally experienced as WR or RB coach in his long career. He was most recently a WR coach for a long time at VaTech before we hired him. McClendon is basically under the guidance of Searles. I question ever putting him at that level at this point in his expereince, but not because he didn’t specifically play the position. Seems to me that most any professional coach could run the drills that have been in place a long time. Not sure they really had to be good runner to know what it takes to be one. Not “this is how I did it”, more so, “this is how we want you to do it.”

and FWIW, I am glad the media isnt speculating about something they have no idea about. I think the only list anyone could make up was out there before the job was even open anyway. I am pretty sure as soon as there is a hint of a rumor, its going to be all over the pages.

How do you figure that CPJ was outcoached by Martinez? We never punted. We either stopped ourselves with a turnover, missed FG, or dropped pass, or we scored.

AltamahaDawg,

The only time I think it happened was at the end of the first half when the clock was a factor (I mentioned the dropped pass which would have been a first down – that was on Thomas not the UGA defense). Am I wrong? UGA did a great job of controlling the ball. We had 3 touchdowns, a missed FG, a made FG, 2 turnovers, the dropped pass, and the end of the first half. That’s 9 possessions. I think that’s all we had, but I could be wrong. None of the 9 had much to do with the UGA defense. Again, we never punted. Neither did UGA, so it would have been stupid for me to say that Wommack had outcoached Bobo if we had scored at the end and won.

Alt, the only people that know the real story are Richt and Evans, and they aren’t talking. I have a hunch that someone is in the works now but nothing will be said untill after the Bowls. 2 of 4 on fourth down actually. You are missing a lot of the game to simply focus on the result of the drive though. Tech was never able to run its offence the way it wanted to all game. 200 yards rushing for a “running team” aint too good. So tech didnt punt, but they didnt burn up big yards, score quick, or have a very good down conversion rate, ALL of which is exactly what the UGA defense wanted, so yes I would say Martinez won that battle.

I’ve seen Techs offense several times, and I think Martinez deserve way more credit to slowing that down, than UGA offense deserves at scoring 30 points.

It seems like a lot of coaches know they are going someplace else by then. I dont know, maybe thats mostly HC changes. Still I can’t really see a “done deal” just sitting for another few weeks, because of a relatively meaningless bowl game in the big picture. Recruiting is way more critical than that. I would think the new boss and the old boss (who has to hire somebody else now) would want to address possible staff changes ASAP. Unless that bowl game is very very important?

Iowa’s offense kept opponents in the game. Their only games over 30 points were Iowa State (35-3) and Indiana (45-24). Northern Iowa was a 17-16 win, and Arkansas State was 27-24. Those teams played them as well as Big-10 opponents, except for Indiana and Minnesota (12-0 game). Overall they averaged scoring 23.1 ppg. They scored 10 in the loss to Northwestern.

The Dawgs and the Yellow Jackets have to date met 96 times on the football field, with the Bulldogs leading the 108-year-old series, 60-39-5. In 2002, Georgia hosted Georgia Tech and boasted its largest margin of victory in the series, 44 points. During the rivalry, Georgia has compiled a winning record in 8 of the 11 decades, including the past four decades.
8 wins in the last 9 games.
20 wins in the last 29 games.

If you had won those 2 games you would be going to a respectable Bowl game. While you are freezing in Shreveport in December at a no-name bowl game, Tech fans will be having a great time in sunny Miami at a BCS Bowl game in January. Altamahadawg,

“Gordon, so as you see it, if you were the head coach, you would have fired your defensive staff after winning 10 games playing third stringers, a year after finishing #2 in the country? Seriously.”

I meant my comment more as something in retrospect. My point was the timing is not the best to be looking for a defensive coordinator. And I seem to remember a whole lot of UGA fans wanting Martinez’ head after 2008. There were 5 or 6 game where the defense gave up 30 plus points. But I’ll admit hindsight is 20/20. I think Tech is facing the same problem with Wommack. I hope CPJ doesn’t take as long to pull the trigger if things don’t improve. UGA played their best game of the year by far against us, but there wasn’t any adjustment. We overpursued all night. It’s amazing we had a chance at the end.

This article is titled Deja Wrong:

Alabama fans, you’re welcome. I’ve been wrong on so many picks this year, it ain’t even funny. So, why should the SEC Championship be any different? I still can’t believe the way UF got manhandled, but who cares? Bowl season will soon be upon us. At this point, it ain’t exactly breaking news, but Saban’s Tide will face off against Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns to decide a National Champion.

Well, what happens if a Brian Kelly-less Bearcats squad gets dismantled by Tebow and the eye gougers from Gainesville? Does the Fiesta Bowl winner stake claim to one half of the National Championship? Based on their rankings (#4 TCU and #6 Boise State), I’d guess that the undefeated Horned Frogs would have the strongest argument. But, TCU would need to route the loss-less Broncos, in order to breed such a discussion.

If this scenario unfolds, it may add some fodder to the “we need a playoff system” debate, but let’s be honest. There will be no split National Championship like we saw in 1990, when G Tech and Colorado both claimed the title. Why? Because 1 program will be crowned king of college football and it will be the winner of the Rose Bowl. Tide fans, you outta be concerned. I’m picking ya’ll to beat Texas by 10.

I continue to be amazed at all the time both Tech and Georgia people spend attacking each other. It is, IMO, a total waste of time.

As a Georgia fan, I’m more concerned about Richt having another year to further wreck the program. He is an incompetent and delusional. He’s presided over the rise and fall of the DAWGS.

I read the drivel in the paper about the “difficult” decision Richt had to make concerning the keeping or firing of his friend Coach Martinez. I understand the friendship part but the coaching part leaves me gasping for air. He should have been fired at the end of last season. Instead he was allowed to continue another year. In fact, had it been my call, I would have fired everyone beginning with head coach Mark Richt.

It seems problematic to me that anyone seriously expects that Richt can right the ship that he, himself, has torpedoed. That scene at the end of the Tech game where he appeared to be furious is another in the series of delusional actions by our head coach. I’ve watched or attended every game and I find his facial blankness distressing when I watch a tackle out-of-bounds and a fifteen yarder imposed thereafter. I would be downright furious because this goes on and on and on DESPITE Coach Richt’s assurances that he would fix the penalties. If what happened this year is what he considers “fixed”, well just chalk it up to delusion.

No, I do not think he can right the ship. That ship has sailed and is plowing through the harbor on its way to the ocean with all hands on board.

Coach Richt’s absolute lack of personnel management skills has created two losing seasons out of one, this one and the next. We don’t have a QB who has taken a snap in real time. Couldn’t he see that Joe Cox wasn’t up to SEC caliber play? That takes nothing away from the fact that Joe surely appeared to give it his best and he was a valiant warrior. But he was a middling SEC QB and that’s being generous.

When it was clear that Joe had no shot at leading us to an Eastern Division championship, why didn’t he decide then and there that the seson was lost and that we needed to get ready for next season.

Sic gloria transit, Coach Richt.

Janzen Jackson 2 times this season was suspended for multiple games with drugs involved.

The 1st suspension was the Memphis game the 1st week of November, when Janzen Jackson failed a drug test.

The 2nd suspension was just 2 weeks later when he exclaimed to 2 felony armed robbers he was in the getaway car with with drugs and CO2 powered semi-automatic pellet gun, “We’ve got to go.”

Both times drugs were involved.

Both times drug tests were run.

“We hold our student-athletes to an extremely high standard on and off the field. Janzen has seen the effect personal decisions had on his former teammates and is excited to rejoin our team activities.”

Of course, it had nothing to do with the fact that the other 2, he didn’t say shouldn’t be robbing people at gunpoint, just that they had to go now, but those 2 vols’ football players were not doing well this their true freshman season too.

Janzen Jackson had the 2 felony armed robbery vols’ football players and the woman with the drugs for all 4 to do, get back into the Prius and go back to the athletic dorm where they all 4 were arrested on multiple charges including drugs.

Yes, indeed Lame Kitten, those are an “extremely high standard” you hold Janzen Jackson to.

Never mind the other 2 were doing very poorly and Janzen Jackson All-Freshman All-SEC selection at DB for defense that was not doing well with Lame Kitten’s father as Defensive Coordinator.

8 NCAA recruiting infractions later, now Ed Orgeron is rumored to be leaving. Ed has a checkered past himself, and Lame Kitten was at Southern California during the recruitment of Reggie Bush, part of an NCAA Investigation still on-going with a million dollar mansion provided to Reggie Bush’s family.

vols’ are ranked Number 42 in the Final BCS Rankings for 2009.

7-5 against a Strength of Schedule the NCAA says is the Number 52 SoS, 1 worse than even Georgia Tech – who played 6 games against teams not even in a bowl game.

I love me some GT, but Georgia beat us plain and simple. They were the better team this year. I’m thrilled to be able to spend my first weekend in January in Miami getting ready to watch the Jackets in the Orange Bowl, but as far as in state trash talking goes, we have no voice for at least a year. You guys need to understand (as in the other Techies on this board) that you talk trash when you win. Period. I tip my hat to UGA for beating as at our own game. I hate the Dawgs, and I hope they get whooped in Shreveport, but keep your mouths shut when we lose. UGA is unfortunately the state champs again. It’s getting old, but those are the facts.

We have some friends here in SW GA who are UF fans. Tebow is their eight year old son’s hero. In much the same way, I grew up a dawg fan in Central Florida because my dad had gone to school there (in fact there was someone at UGA in my family from 1936-1986 and a few since) and Herschel Walker was my hero. Anyway, this kid was wearing a UF belt buckle one day around the time that Tebow got a concussion in the Kentucky game. A grown woman, who happened to be a nurse, points at the kid and starts taunting him, going on and on saying things like, “I guess your Tebow isn’t Superman afterall.” This was related to me at a Christmas party yesterday.

Now I know that I am setting myself up here, and this will most likely be disregarded, or some will rip it apart without even reading the whole thing. But, I was reading some of the posts and vents from UF and Alabama fans, and it dawned on me that many of the Bulldog nation are spiteful, vengeful, jealous, and mean spirited. (Count me among you as I have been razzing my Florida friends about Tebow’s tears and such.) In the case of a grown and educated woman crapping on a little kid’s hero, I would add stupid, thoughtless, and inconsiderate.

I just want to point out that none of these things are part of a winning attitude, and keeping it up will only contribute to failure. Now some of you will get this. As for the rest of you, go ahead and tell me what an idiot I am, but know in your hearts that I am speaking the truth. You want to have a good team? You want to win an NC? Respect people, reward sportsmanship, and support your team with positive thoughts and actions.

- It’s no longer about the season’s body of work, it’s only about an in state game.

it is obvious georgia will not be reporting anything news worthy until after the national championship game and that will upset everyone including far left so-called newspaper here in the atl.
kirby needs to make a name for himself and that will never happen with nick saban.

the dawg defense will be back with 8 returning players and yes four- five very good defensive tackles to go along with
an abundance of other defensive ends.

it is amazing how so many people have attack our coach who has the best record ever in georgia football history for the same time frame and that includes coaches (dooley, butts or mehre).
georgia has won two SEC championships during his tenure and finish second in the nation and we have so called fans asking for our coach’s head including of all things; a field goal kicker ripping this program with all coach richt has done since he arrived on the scene.

yes, it was pretty bad when he arrived with drug sales running rapid among certain players, and 20 years since the dawgs had won an SEC chamionship.
yes, it was a long dry period since dooley brought much glory to our beloved school, but now is the time for all true dawg fans need to rally and support this program and it’s coach who has had HUGE success for our school.

we just need a little patience and it will come back!

Look folks, we lost five games so we are who we are…a 7-5 SEC team that finished behind Fla, Tenn and KY in the East. But, we are in a bowl game, playing a team that will bring a lot of fans and a lot of fun (plus I’d rather hear the A&M war cry – or whatever they call it – than some fat guys doing their version of a couple of hogs fightin’, which is what we were subjected to in ‘91), in a town that’s a lot of fun (not so big that you gotta run ’serpentine’ between the hotel and the places to see and do and eat.). Shreveport’s got casinos (who besides the Las Vegas Bowl can say that?) and horse racing…tons of restaurants (more cajun and creole than Atlanta’s got BBQ joints or Miami’s got stone crabs)…it’s easier and cheaper to get to and to stay in…and gets to show us Dawgs just what ‘Laissez les bon temps rouler’ is all about without the New Orleans’ prices.

Just wish they would resurrect ‘The Louisiana Hayride’…now that would put it over the top. Shoot, they could just bring George Jones in, prop him up and let him rip and it would be good enough for me. And, in case you didn’t notice it, it – the bowl game – gives us another few weeks of practice to get better at stuff.

We’ll have a DC, but probably not until after the NC game. You see, I believe that ‘for the right price’ Kirby Smart will indeed ‘do the smart thing’ and take an attractive offer from us and set himself up for whenever Mark Richt decides that he wants to go do something else – or the same thing somewhere else. I’m not in support of CMR leaving us anytime soon, but it sure would be nice if Kirby were to be ‘in the wings’ if, and when, it happens. Just sayin’.

For the record, I am one that does not think K Smart has much to gain to make a move right now, and if he did It would be a very short stay. So I don’t think he is going to be the new DC. I think professional football coaches rely more on well established drills and methods to coach particular positions, and don’t really stand around saying “this is how I used to do it” all day. Maybe Richt, who probabaly has a “clue” doesn’t think that you can only ever coach your former position.

I have questioned McClendon being qualified at this level, although nothing to do with his college position (I’m sure he was a RB somewhere along the line since peewee), just his experience in general. SOGa88 just answered that for me though. The recruit angle him makes perfect sense.

I think Searles was promoted as “running game Co-ordinator” to help him out as well.

Letting Martinez go takes a huge monkey off CMR’s back and removes a huge distraction that he’s had to deal with for sometime now. I also wonder if CMR had taken too much of a hands off approach when he gave up playcalling. Hiring some competent defensive coaches and new special teams approach should improve things pretty quickly. This team has a lot of talent and a lot of potential playmakers. This is not like trying to rebuild a horrible team. A couple of fixes and these Dawgs will be tough again. I believe CMR will make the right moves.

Why the inferiority complex,

You are completely confused if you think there is any inferiority complex in UGA fans. The first reason we are talking about Tech at all is because this was our biggest win of the season (beating the then #7 team in the country, and our most despised rival, beating them at their own game and on their own field). The second reason is as payback for their completely irritating postings on this DAWG blog for the last year. And for their continued pathetic postings here at the current time. All of the inferiority is on the Tech side. They are the ones still trying to explain why their appearance in the Orange Bowl is more meaningful than our bowl and why it makes up for their loss to us. Come on!!!!

Hey tennesseetom, suggest that if you’re going to ’skin your ignorance’ around here you check your work before you turn it in…the word is ‘or’…as far as comparing Athens to Reidsville, the SEC football player that has committed the kind of crime that’ll land you in Reidsville in this state, is your own – ‘GimmeYoKeese’ Richardson. Of course, up there, you guys will cut ‘em a lot of slack if they’re any good…like the Jackson kid…he was completely innocent of all wrong-doing in the incident, wasn’t he? Yeah, and Ray Lewis didn’t try to cover up two homicides either.

So your man, Lame Lane, finds NCAA investigations a compliment to your program…along those same lines, he probably sees ‘armed robbery’ as just another way to ‘free-up’ a scholarship or two from guys that weren’t ‘cuttin’ the mustard’.

Here’s the bottom line on the Dawgs:
Great tradition, good program, good players in an unbelievably tough conference. Plus when you add the very difficult non-conference schedule – just too much!
Good decisive move to change leaders on the defense. Let’s pund the ball on offense (too gimiky!). Let’s kick the ball deep on punts and kick-offs and cover at least average. Let’s return better and more consistently. Most importantly, let’s play with passion and intensity instead of trying to be clever and over-coach. The Dawgs need HCMR is be more hands-on and not the Chairman of the Board – too much delegation! He is one of the best offensive coordinators in the nation – step up and be more active Coach! Football is an emotional (not technical) sport – need more toughness and fly to the ball – no more seven yard cushion gimme’s!!! Even if you get beat deep – make ‘em earn it!
Go Dawgs! My prediction: a bowl win and another 9 win season next year with a better (not yet BCS) bowls to play in. We will be fine – just make it competitive! No more blow outs!

I think Meridith Baxter-Birney on the sidelines doing an alternative lifestyle segment will go over well with the ACC crowd.

Won’t be able to pony up the money to get Kirby Smart….Bama moving him from 400K to 600K for job well done…..Willie Martinez was at 285K and Bobo and friends right around the 300K mark…It will take 700K to get Kirby, he is the guy who would excite the players and the fanbase, but don’t look for that to happen…He would be making double what the OC would be making and double what Martinez made…WE HAVE THE MONEY, WHY IS IT THAT WE ARE PAYING 1/3 OF WHAT TEXAS IS PAYING FOR THEIR DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR, AND ONLY 1/2 OF WHAT FLORIDA STATE IS PAYING…IS FOOTBALL AT UGA WORTH ONLY 1/3 OF WHAT IT IS AT TEXAS????….ALTHOUGH OUR REVENUES ARE IN THE TOP 2 OR 3 IN THE COUNTRY, WE ARE DOING A POOR JOB OF PAYING OUR ASSISTANT COACHES…WHEN MAC MCWHORTER IS DONE AT TEXAS AS OLINE COACH AND RETIRES, AND THEY DOUBLE COACH SEARLES SALARY AT TEXAS, WE GONNA LOSE HIM TOO….COACH RICHT’S HANDS ARE TIED IN WHAT HE CAN OFFER A DC…ABOUT 450K WILL BE ABOUT TOPS…THEY JUST PAID YOUNG STOOPS 700K TO LEAVE ARIZONA AND COME TO FLORIDA STATE….THINK THAT PRES. ADAMS LIKES IT THIS WAY IN THAT HE HAS TOLD THE AD TO NEVER LET THE FOOTBALL COACH/AD GET AS POWERFUL AGAIN AS COACH DOOLEY WAS….MEDIOCRE SEASONS WILL KEEP THE FOOTBALL HEAD COACH FROM BECOMING POWERFUL…COACH RICHT WILL DO THE BEST HE CAN WITH THE MONEY HE CAN OFFER, BUT DON’T LOOK FOR MIRACLES…MONEY TALKS, AND THE OTHER STUFF WALKS…AND RIGHT NOW WE ARE WALKING…..BUT WHEN COACH RICHT IS NOT ALLOCATED THE MONEY TO GO “GET THE BEST” AND WE AS FANS HAVE TO SETTLE FOR MEDIOCRITY, THE NEXT MOVE WILL BE TO CLEAN OUT THE AD’S OFFICE AND IF THE RIGHT GOVERNOR IS ELECTED, THE PRESIDENT’S OFFICE TOO….WONDER IF COACH SABAN NEEDED A DC WOULD THEY TIE HIS HANDS AS TO WHAT HE COULD PAY HIM????? COACH RICHT DOES NOT HAVE THE CONTROL OVER HIS OWN DESTINY NEARLY AS MUCH AS COACH SABAN DOES….AND IF COACH BRYANT HAD WANTED TO STAY AROUND ANOTHER YEAR AT ALABAMA, DO YOU GUESS THE ALABAMA FANS WOULD HAVE LET THE PRESIDENT FORCE HIM OUT LIKE HAPPENED AT UGA WITH COACH DOOLEY….

I predict Tebow will NOT hand the ball to a teammate in the 2nd half for the 2nd game in a row!!!! I predict Tebow will take 100% of the carries again in the 2nd half and keep the ball away from his best playmakers like he did against Alabama. I predict Tebow will throw 1 intercpetion in the red zone again and commit 1 fumble again on a sack with that ankle high ball delivery.

This is what “stolen identity” looks like in Bulldog Nation. CPJ and the Jackets have stepped in and stolen the only thing that matters in Athens. If we manage to maintain this same level of success over the next decade (a big “if”, of course… it’s a little tougher to recruit at Tech than it is at UGA…), we will restore our rivalry to a place of prominence and everyone will “win” (believe it or not, most people around the country don’t associate UGA with great SEC football… it’s a second-tier program in that conference, and a team that is expected to suffer season-shattering losses to Tennessee and Florida every season… and Auburn every now and then…).

Bottom line: Stop whining and suck it up, Dawgs’ fans… we’re going to enjoy the hell out of this while it lasts. Good luck in Shreveport… we’ll send you a postcard from Miami…

What exactly did you steal from Athens? Georgia Tech is still the SECOND best team in the state. Technically, we stole the only thing in Atlanta that matters, the Governor’s Cup. Even though I don’t consider UGA a second teir SEC team, I’d rather be second tier SEC than the best in the ACC. Have fun in Miami.

Well I guees I will wade into this mess. I am glad that the win for you Ga Boys meant so much to you. Shows that the game means something to both sides. Who da thunk that was really possible since 2000. I must say that I am glad that the game no longer defines our season. I am also aware that over the history of the series you have won 60 percent of the games as well as the fact that you have won 8 out of the last 9…congrats on that. But to quote the coach you are 1-1 against him in the here and now. So we will do it again this time next year…

Now I will add this. The guys that were screaming 45-42 last year give us as a bad a name as your fans in the wife beaters and who cant spell UGA much less find Sanford Stadium on a map much less in person even if you were to give them tickets on the 50 yard line and hold up game time for them while they were icing down their PBR. Those guys have nothing to do with the fine Institute, more than likely never attended classes there and like turning the pot over. You know like 95 percent of you fans. To those who actually attended and/or graduated UGA I am sure you are tired of those fans giving your program a bad name. I know I am ours.

Y’all have fun in Shrevport, Gawd knows we have played enough games on the Blue Carpet, you can share the wealth. We will go and play in the Orange Bowl and take another step towards that NC that will be coming our way in the next few years.

Oh and BJ….what is you point about the ratings of the ACCCG?? Who cares…with the game moving to Charlotte, where it should have been all along, this year was stepping stone for the conference as well as our program…The SEC has Florida/Alabama and MAYBE LSU…but drops off from there. SOOOOOO again I dont see the point.

JUST A FAN:correction, 3:12 ,12/13 I said look at Steele from SC for next D coach, my bad, what I should have said is look at Ellis Johnson from SC, or possibly Kevin Steele from Clemson. IMO they are both top D coaches with the edge going to Johnson, dont think we could miss with either, but I still think we have a reasonable shot at Smart. The problem with Smart is he is only 2 or 3 years from becoming a HC himself. So what do you do? Im sure CMR is carfully considering all of his options and will bring in a top D man. Still dont thik it will be Garner though, he has pretty much said so himself. But I do think Garner stays though, he is extremely loyal to CMR.

Worst deal I’ve ever heard of. I mean if hotel was provided after the game and fly out in the AM it would still suck at that or really any other price but this is just beyond absurd. At least the plane will acclimate you to the mass of humanity at the game.

Ealey and King with both be 1000+ yd. rushers next season, with about 15 – 20 pass plays a game from Aaron Murray to keep their D honest, and we are back to 10+ wins a season again. With Alec Ogletree coming, and possibly Da’rick Rogers (who may move to DB for earlier playing time and exposure) we should be back to the solid SEC powerhouse that our running game demands. No more turnovers. Discipline. Florida is going to be on a down 2 – 3 years, and Alabama is losing a lot of players too, so this is our chance to pounce. Lets get a DC who isn’t afraid to blitz/fake blitz 15 times a game. Lets get back to the trench war that is BullDawg Football.

UGA spurned by another DC. HE said he liked the fire in Coach Zook. The problem with CMR is he’s to laid back and not enough fight in him. I won’t say a top DC will not come to UGA, but the longer we wait to hire one the less chance of getting those top defensive players that we really need. Thornton and Whitaker would be a tremendous addition to the team, but no one of that caliber will commit to a team without a top DC. Waiting too long wil be very costly to uga. This is not the basketball team.
