Keep talking Dogs

I’m a bit under the weather today and so won’t be blogging, but feel free to keep discussing the Dogs here. Congratulations to Drew Butler on being named the nation’s best punter in his first year as the starter. Go Dogs!

Vic Koenning, no way! Check out Kansas State’s results. Started out well, but gave up 62, 42, and 38 points in three of the last six games. No thanks! He may be good, but seems a little suspect. I think I’ll take someone better. Besides, he’ll probably take over at Kansas State in a few years.

I saw this coming and Tenn.earned every bit of it.Coach Kiffin can look innocent but truth is he cheats with the best of them.If I were a recruit I would stay as far away from Tenn.as I could.

I can’t wait to get to Athens, its already a done deal. Why do you think you are not hearing about anyone being interviewed in Athens. I’ve got to go, I can hear Saban cussing down the hall. I can’t wait to work with Mark Richt in Athens.

acc championship game ATTENDANCE: 57,227 according to ESPN. I don’t know if that was turnstile attendance or tickets sold though.
Not bad for a gt game. Sort of sux for a BCS conference though. You acc folks need to pay attention to your own games or nobody will take you seriously and you’ll be overtaken by the Big East, MWC, or WAC in the BCS hierarchy. You can crow about the conference championship all you want, but if your own fans don’t care enough to go, what does that say about the importance of the game?

The ACC should cut back to 10 teams and play a round-robin schedule like the PAC-10. These conference championship games are another argument against a playoff system. That’s why the NCAA established them. At least that’s one of my conspiracy theories.

Jmac12023, I was with you up until you decided that only GT drops passes and if only, if only. if only. Come on man, you are better than that. The rest of your argument was solid and pretty accurate, but then you go and act like a cry baby GT fan and use the “Wah, we dropped it” card. Tech is a better team than UGA this year, we were plum sorry. Just deal with your azz whopping like a man and move on.

This is how it’s going to play out:

CMR is going to give Coach G a chance to be the “DC” for this bowl game. If the D steps up against a pretty good offensive football team in AnM, Coach G is named the DC. Kinda like CMR did with Bobo after the win in the CFA bowl against VaTech (another team from the ACC that has lost to Georgia under CMR). Coach G hires the rest of his defensive staff. If Coach G has success and the D is improved, as it should be with all of the talent coming in next year, he’s gone w/in 2 years to be a HC which is his ultimate goal.

Kirby isn’t coming here. Muschamp just got a new deal with Texas that renews his contract anually until Brown moves on which is essentially like a long term contract in addition to the C-I-W clause.

I’m trying to tone down the violence Delmar. Think we could all use some togetherness in here. As disparate as we all seem to be, I think that if the Taliban landed in Savannah today, we’d all be grabbing the deer rifle and heading that a way. You Tech guy’s would come in handy.

bigdawg88, K-State finished the year with 2 linebackers playing DT..literally…they weighed in at about 235-240.. i think that had alot to do with the way the finished up.. i do know last year under a different DC, they gave up 450 yds/game and 34 pts/game and this year, with Koenning and basically the same personnel, they gave up 300 yds/game and 24 pts/game,,with those 3 high scoring games included.. they also more than doubled their sack totals from last year.. and if you look around, a whole lot of very coaches coached under bill snyder,, bob stoops, mike stoops, gary patterson, guys who know defense..

I’m not so sure Coach Garner is so much and Xs & Os guy as much as he’s a very good recruiter. In the past when teams were looking to steal him away (Auburn and Tenn.) it wasn’t as a DC. That’s why CMR made him Asst. Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.

Tony Ball is as equally experienced as WR or RB coach in his long career. He was most recently a WR coach for a long time at VaTech before we hired him. McClendon is basically under the guidance of Searles. I question ever putting him at that level at this point in his expereince, but not because he didn’t specifically play the position. Seems to me that most any professional coach could run the drills that have been in place a long time. Not sure they really had to be good runner to know what it takes to be one. Not “this is how I did it”, more so, “this is how we want you to do it.”

and FWIW, I am glad the media isnt speculating about something they have no idea about. I think the only list anyone could make up was out there before the job was even open anyway. I am pretty sure as soon as there is a hint of a rumor, its going to be all over the pages.

Shouldn’t you at least be the best team in your state before you worry about “the big boys?” And I don’t think the worst BCS conference in the nation, with their SIX teams at .500 worse, constitutes as “the big boys.” Tool

Some good points, but experience has got to count for something doesn’t it? Of course with McClendan, didn’t he start out at DB? And he wasn’t the best WR we ever had. So there’s that…..

Albeit a short and simple blog, the caption caught everyone. Good work Bill, it seems your headline helped provoke a few immature Techsters to “ramble” on with no basis of equality.
UGA, in one game, surpassed Tech….again.

Bowl games have yet to be played. They should be out of the discussion.
Last game i attended: 30-24 UGA over Tech. Why keep talking Tech?

How do you figure that CPJ was outcoached by Martinez? We never punted. We either stopped ourselves with a turnover, missed FG, or dropped pass, or we scored.

And why do you think we care how many people outside of the Tech fan base care about Tech? We care about Tech.

Having said that, enjoy your bragging rights – you earned them fair and square.

I’m pretty experienced predicting what will happen in football games, and that doesnt work half the time, so who knows.

Experience is why I questioned making him that hhigh of a level coach, but more from a standpoint of handling the job. And I do agree that somebody out there could teach the skill AND have some perspective on the position as well.

AltamahaDawg,

The only time I think it happened was at the end of the first half when the clock was a factor (I mentioned the dropped pass which would have been a first down – that was on Thomas not the UGA defense). Am I wrong? UGA did a great job of controlling the ball. We had 3 touchdowns, a missed FG, a made FG, 2 turnovers, the dropped pass, and the end of the first half. That’s 9 possessions. I think that’s all we had, but I could be wrong. None of the 9 had much to do with the UGA defense. Again, we never punted. Neither did UGA, so it would have been stupid for me to say that Wommack had outcoached Bobo if we had scored at the end and won.

Alt, the only people that know the real story are Richt and Evans, and they aren’t talking. I have a hunch that someone is in the works now but nothing will be said untill after the Bowls. The Dawgs may have some major rebuilding to do with the departure of those big senior tackles, especially if Jones and Curran leave early. Whoever the new DC is, he will have his hands full.

2 of 4 on fourth down actually. You are missing a lot of the game to simply focus on the result of the drive though. Tech was never able to run its offence the way it wanted to all game. 200 yards rushing for a “running team” aint too good. So tech didnt punt, but they didnt burn up big yards, score quick, or have a very good down conversion rate, ALL of which is exactly what the UGA defense wanted, so yes I would say Martinez won that battle.

I’ve seen Techs offense several times, and I think Martinez deserve way more credit to slowing that down, than UGA offense deserves at scoring 30 points.

Gordon, so as you see it, if you were the head coach, you would have fired your defensive staff after winning 10 games playing third stringers, a year after finishing #2 in the country? Seriously.

You should have converted your 401k to a gold back in September of last year too.

Delbert D.

AltamahaDawg – Tech’s defense hasn’t done much to help with time of possession. Except with the Georgia game and the 2nd Clemson game, that is. But in those games you’d like most “3 and outs” not to end up being TDs.

I see where Fiutak has the Independence Bowl as the 9th most interesting, right behind the Sugar and in front of the CapOne. Although its because he finds UGA and A&M “fun-bad, and entertaining even when they lose”. That’s probably not far off the mark. He’s got the MNC game behind the GMAC and Armed Forces Bowl, so take that fwiw. (predicting a LSU-type stomp of GT in the orange too)
