I’m a bit under the weather today and so won’t be blogging, but feel free to keep discussing the Dogs here. Congratulations to Drew Butler on being named the nation’s best punter in his first year as the starter. Go Dogs!

doolydawg, the AJC simply doesn’t know of anyone that UGA is evaluating..i’m actually kind of happy to see that their not out there just guessing, which is what most news organizations are doing now-a-days..its become,”guess whats going to happen news, rather than report what has happened news”,, heck, for that matter, i can give you a list myself,,although i’ve already “reported” that UGA should be making an announcement any day now that they’re hiring Vic Koening from K-State.. so, there ya have it..

but as far as a list goes,,Smart,Mark Stoops,Koening,Muschamp, the guy from UNC(forgot his name),Ellis Johnson, or the guy from Central Michigan(don’t know his name)..there’s your list…:)

Jack the Bull—-I know of the media list!!!!! And if you actually believe that Muschamp is a candidate you are crazy!!! I do not speculation about who we might be looking at but we haven’t even heard of a timeline. Also, It’s not speculation to report who Richt and Evans have contacted or even interviewed…That’s reporting not speculating!!!!

Hey Cuz,

How long till Mark Fox has the basketball program on track to compete in the SEC and make some noise in the NCAA tournament? Looks like they could use a couple of 3 point specialists. I watched most of the St. John’s game (had to keep an eye on Hawks as well). Some of the young dudes showed flashes of potential.

thanks for the good luck, but you will need it more. Tech has a much better chance to beat Iowa than the pups do of beating Texas A&M. CMR can’t motivate his team to play Florida without gimmicks, so do you really think he can motivate them to play in Shreveport against a 6-6 team? Not Likely!!!

KIRBY SMART…..is exactly that, smart. He knows that UGA is in shambles. HE, along with ever other fan, has watched this team underachieve the past two seasons and knows that CMR decision to keep CWM wil have long lasting affects on the program.
I for one am a believer that our decisions today will affect us years into the future. Keeping CWM the past two seasons will affect us for at least two more years. By then, CMR will be on the hot seat.
Kirby knows this, and with a couple more years under Saban, will be a leading candidate for HC. Smart will coach at UGA….as HC.
He also knows that if he comes to UGA know, he would only ressurrect the program….and CMR would get all the credit. OR, comes to UGA and not be able to correct the damage done, thus tarnishing his resume’.
Smart is smart……see ya in two years!

I think they’ll be alright. Win or lose, the bowl practice is good for cultivating the young talent on the roster. I’m hoping to see much improvement next season. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. And for the record, I like gimmicks when they work. Ha ha. The last few times UGA wore black, things didn;t turn out so well. But, the original Blackout was awesome. Gimmicks are lame, without execution. So, I see your point.

For all you Tech folks thinking this is the beginning of the end: Just remember that USC & OK both had subpar years. Programs go through this from time to time. No point in us worrying about it. Enjoy your bowl….

Now for some real talk:
I was thinking about the Kirby Smart situation and it reminded me of something that happened years ago where one of our managers went to work for another company for a few years and came back, got a big promotion, etc. Now this is stretching it a bit far, but what if Richt and Smart had this planned all along? Maybe Richt sent Smart to learn from Satan for a few years since he probably knew he wouldn’t get that much from little willie. Richt himself said that he’s been thinking about the defensive problems for years. Maybe he knew soon after willie took over that willie didn’t really have the imagination to run a good defense. Hey, he picked BVG over willie even though willie was his best friend, so he knew who had it and who didn’t. Something else that sort of bothers me is that there has been very little word from the media on candidates. Usually SOMETHING leaks out, like when willie was about to get fired. Richt didn’t even bother naming Garner as the interim DC for the bowl game. You would think the only defensive staffer left would be running the defense. Richt or Damon said years ago when BVG left that they keep a list of potential hires for just in case, so they must already have their person lined up. Me thinks that Richt has to wait until the BCS championship is over before suddenly declaring that Smart has agreed to come back to UGA as the defensive coordinator. Talk about how great Bama is all you want, but there really isn’t much difference (other than history) between the two programs. And there are more recruits to pick from in GA than AL, plus it is the guy’s alma mater (didn’t mean much to Dooley though!). And it would be a big feather in his cap if he revived a defense that was near the bottom of the conference to one at the top.

The more i think about willie m the madder i get. I remember at the beginning of the season when the dawg tackles talked about playing a 3-4 and willie said they would NEVER play a 3-4! If you have three 300+ pound studs at tackle, a short of DEs, and a bunch of linebackers that you were trying to make rush ends, why NOT play a 3-4 defense? Take some of those guys like Washington and have them zone blitz instead of sitting the bench. Imagine if we had an attacking 3-4 defense instead of that old 4-3 that couldn’t put pressure on anybody? Richt was pretty sure willie was the problem years ago, but his loyalty (or Smart hadn’t learned enough yet) wouldn’t let him pull the trigger last year.
I know it’s wishful thinking Smart would come here, but stranger things have happened. Hey, Notre Dame basically just hired another Weis – Offensive genius with no defense. Kelly will be walking the plank in five years.

No. CMR DID NOT MOTIVATE THEM. All he did was take the game out of the hands of his QB and take a page out of the TECH PLAYBOOK and run, run, run, passing only when necessary. The only thing that motivated the players was 45-42. CMR had nothing to do with it. Didn’t you read all the player interviews, or could you? THE ‘08 GAME MOTIVATED THE TEAM, NOT THE COACH!!!

And what is so funny about that is that I said back in September that Cox was not a leader, and the team was wasting all those splendid running backs. It took a stumbling and bumbling 11 games for CMR to finally figure it out. If the pups played Tech’s “high school offense”, they might be something like 10-2 or 11-1. The strength of the team is their running backs. Even a novice like me could see that.

Why can’t Georgia fans understand that last year our win over them was ALL that mattered? Not the fact they they were 10-3 and we were 9-4. Now this year ALL that matters is that we are 10-2 and they are 7-5. It don’t matter that they whipped us like a bunch of schoolgirls with a freshman running back getting almost 200 yards and a sophomore running back also rushing for close to 200 yards. And the way their pitiful defense shut us down don’t matter either. ALL that matters is we will play Iowa in the Bowl that will receive the lowest TV rating of ALL time and have MORE empty seats than any other Bowl in history. I knew I should of stayed at Navy!!

JMac,
I can admit that I was WRONG about Joe Cox. I believed that he was ready to step up and lead this to at least 9 wins. Maybe it was wishful thinking, but as it turned out, my analysis was very incorrect. It happens. I agree, the strength of UGA is the running backs. But, traditionally speaking, that’s how it should be. The Dawgs should “Run this State!” Ha ha.

What scares me about next season, is the fact that the Dawgs will once again be very inexperienced at the QB position. That ain’t good. I just hope that whoever the starter is, will at least provide better ball security than Cox did. His picks really hurt UGA in 09. But, so did poor play on special teams and defense. Unlike a lot of fans, I don’t blame all of the Dawgs’ flaws on Willie Martinez. Why? Because I don’t have enough knowledge of the situation to start throwing stones at any of the coaches.
But, there might be an opportunity for Georgia’s staff to better prepare their players/motivate them and instruct them to play more disciplined football in 2010. Just look at the penalties.

Gooooooooooooooooooooo Dawgs!!!

Its a shame that us puppies can’t bark about anything else but our win over those yellow jackets. I guess it is what we get for letting lowly Kentucky beat our fuzzy butts. I don’t think we have enough self-esteem to do much else than to claim success by winning one stupid game over GT because we know when we go to Shreveport we will get our fuzzy butts handed to us by those Texas Aggies. We can’t even get any respect from our own head coach. It really sucks to be a puppy this year. I think we might be licking Jacket butt for a while they way things are looking right now. Boy, it really sucks to be a UGA puppy. We can’t beat Florida, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, or Kentucky. I guess we will just be the SEC whipping-dog until we can get some good coaches and players and a little luck with the referees. Dang, it really sucks to be a UGA puppy.

I was not expecting UGA to get thumped in Knoxville. Thankfully, I was at Six Flags with my niece and nephew. Listened to the game on radio. Dang glad I didn’t watch it on TV. Would have been more painful. Kiffin is a young coach, but I believe he’ll do a great job at UT…but the violations must stop.

Maybe I’m naive, but I believe him, that he and his staff did not know of the recent transgressions. Regardless, UT needs to stop being put on the NCAA’s radar. Enough smoke brings fire.
