Pollack’s advice to Owens: You are what you eat

Jeff Owens might not watch what he eats, but someone else does. (Georgiadogs.com)

Jeff Owens might not watch what he eats, but someone else does. (Georgiadogs.com)

Supersized senior defensive tackle Jeff Owens has become something of a legend among Georgia fans on Twitter for his frequent updates about eating. If you follow Owens on the social media site, you generally know where he’s having lunch or dinner.

But those tweets took an interesting turn this week as Owens discovered that Big Brother is watching. Or, rather, former UGA star defensive end David Pollack, another heavy user of Twitter.

Here’s how the exchange went (I’ve fixed the punctuation):

jeffowens95: Just finish working out; today’s running killed me.

davidpollack47@jeffowens95: It’s bc [because] your diet sucks, get the heck out of Waffle House.

jeffowens95@davidpollack47: Ha ha, I’m a D Tackle.

davidpollack47@jeffowens95: No excuse, diet is important.

Pollack continued his “intervention” the next day.

jeffowens95: Time for dinner. I want to eat at the Blind Pig.

davidpollack47@jeffowens95: That’s fine, but try a salad homie.

Last I saw yesterday, Owens was heading to Johnny’s Pizza.

For a salad, I’m sure.

It must REALLY eat you white trash inbreds up to know that the small school down the road known more for its academics than its football program is headed to a BCS bowl while your hot shot Football Powerhouse with its top 10 5 star recruits are gonna be headed to a 5:00 P.M. bowl game on a Monday 4 days before the New Year.

exNFLplayer it does seem that UGA can run the ball…but why did it take CMR and Mike Bobo literally all season to figure it out, or did the offense simply under perform and not execute. I’m inclined to think the latter.

Bobby Ross picked me up when I was cut by another NFL team and gave me the opportunity to play in a Super Bowl.

We don’t hold a high regard for you techies. We simply get sick of having to deal with the screwed up BCS system giving just as much clout to the sorry ass ACC as they do the SEC. Big10, Pac10, Big12 as well. If you disillusioned bug fans would look at the overall history of the series as well as recent games you’d know who the best team in GA is and always be. Learn from history and the present. UGA is your daddy and always will be. BTW, which of you is too ashamed to admit that you’re saint simons?

CMS, the reason UGA ran the ball on Tech was they knew Tech couldn’t stop it physically and it was imperative to control the clock. Personally I have felt they could have run the ball more this past season and sometimes went away from the run before the other team forced them to. But nobody has contacted me for a coaching position so what do I know. It was obvious that the UGA coaching staff knew they could run on Tech and put in blocking schemes consistent with that objective. But I do think you run the ball until the opponent stops you or proves to you that you can’t. That’s when a team has to be talented enough across the board to adjust. I wish all UGA had to do was hand the ball to the tail every game. Makes things a lot simpler. Just ask Buck Belue. But that’s not real world when you’re talking SEC football in this day and age.

I do think you’re going to see about a 60/40 run to pass next year because of the late season emergence of Ealey and King as well as a big line with a little more experience and some continuity. Big pays in the passing game come off of play action when you can run a little, and with Greene, Charles, and the other talented wide receivers it only makes sense to focus on establishing the run.
But bottom line for UGA is defense. The offense was good enough this year. Our future success depends on improvements in the D.

I like to eat too and I know where Jeffrey’s coming from. But let’s face it, if he doesn’t change his thinking when he gets into the NFL, he won’t last long and won’t amount to much more than a bust. Think about Ricky Williams and Tony Mandarich. Two great, great college players that could have been NFL HOF material but both had serious diet and weight issues. (Well Ricky had inhalation issues as well but…) nevertheless…

It’s all fun and games now just being in college, but if he’s being paid to play, his coaches and training staff are not going to tolerate him being a lard ass. It will be his job and livelihood and he will need to get serious about it. Pollack’s right and his heart’s certainly in the right place. He’s just looking out for a fellow Dawg. Pollack was always in great shape, and it showed with his performance and his first round draft status, and yes Jeff, you better believe that your draft status will drop if NFL scouts think you can’t drop the weight.

Diet alone won’t make someone as dominant as David Pollack. Man, did we fully realize what we had when that guy played at UGA? I know BVG was a fine coach, but Pollack must have shaved 4-5 points from the opponent’s score by himself. We really haven’t been worth a crap on defense since he left.

If Bobo spreads the offense to suit Arron Murray and blends it with an I style formation to run. Then their will be less pressure on the D. Even so, Alec Ogletree will be a freak that recievers will fear.

So the AJC is reading comments on gossip sites. How desperate is the AJC for an anti-UGA article? We all know that the AJC has an anti-UGA slant. You have an idiot ranting about GT’s superior NFL talent compared to UGA. I must say that made for a good laugh. The first pick in the draft last year was who? Who is the 1st round running back for the Bronco? Hines Ward, former MVP of the Super Bowl, played where? Champ Bailey, one of the highest paid defensive players in the NFL, played where? I can go on and on. The GT idiots are full of bull feces. They are comparing records. We played a head to head game and won peon. No, defeating GT was nothing. We play in a real conference. Your conference title game was between two teams the SEC defeated the week prior. Keep up the HAHA stuff. It only makes you look more pathetic.

you can’t control what a person eats. People are trying to pick out every little thing about the UGA program, which is understandable after this season, but lets not get stupid. You can be counseled about what you should eat, and even have a meal plan, but that doesn’t mean that they have to eat at the cafeteria. I worked in college athletics, players are going to eat what they want to eat if they have the money.
