Pollack’s advice to Owens: You are what you eat

Jeff Owens might not watch what he eats, but someone else does. (Georgiadogs.com)

Jeff Owens might not watch what he eats, but someone else does. (Georgiadogs.com)

Supersized senior defensive tackle Jeff Owens has become something of a legend among Georgia fans on Twitter for his frequent updates about eating. If you follow Owens on the social media site, you generally know where he’s having lunch or dinner.

But those tweets took an interesting turn this week as Owens discovered that Big Brother is watching. Or, rather, former UGA star defensive end David Pollack, another heavy user of Twitter.

Here’s how the exchange went (I’ve fixed the punctuation):

jeffowens95: Just finish working out; today’s running killed me.

davidpollack47@jeffowens95: It’s bc [because] your diet sucks, get the heck out of Waffle House.

jeffowens95@davidpollack47: Ha ha, I’m a D Tackle.

davidpollack47@jeffowens95: No excuse, diet is important.

Pollack continued his “intervention” the next day.

jeffowens95: Time for dinner. I want to eat at the Blind Pig.

davidpollack47@jeffowens95: That’s fine, but try a salad homie.

Last I saw yesterday, Owens was heading to Johnny’s Pizza.

For a salad, I’m sure.

kauai dawg, does the beow info give you the idea that Rex Robinson just may be FOS?

“To make a statement, you should have some facts behind it,” Van Halanger said. “I know I would if I would say anything on the air. For us, this year we had 29 guys bench press over 400 pounds and two over 500 — Jeff Owens and Justin Anderson. We had 44 guys on our team that could back squat 500 and 14 over 600.

“That’s pretty impressive. We had 63 guys that power cleaned from the floor 300 pounds or more and two that went over 400 pounds. That’s the first time I’ve ever had two in my over-30-year career.”

Van Halanger said this year’s team had a bench press average of 415, the same as the 2007 team that finished ranked No. 2 in the nation. This year’s team, he said, is younger, but still improved from an average squat from 530 to 551 and an average power clean from 321 to 341.

Terrance Cody is what he eats too. I personally saw the guy eat 103 chicken wings and follow it up with Forida’s offensive line for dessert.

Athensdawg…..I don’t think that casual comments on twitter give insight to either UGA’s football program nor is your interpretation of Owen’s intentions valid.

I do agree however, with the idea that the new DC should make ALL of the kids run until they puke every last bit of that waffle house dinner out of their system…..

By the way, for some reason you capatialized “HISTORY”, the “D” tackle and of course “UGA” but you don’t know or don’t care that “God” is always presented in print with a capital “G.” Perhaps that gives us some idea of your perspective.

Don’t come on to a UGA blog bragging about being 11-2 when you play in the ACC. It just doesn’t hold any water. Especially since UGA had it’s worst team in 10 years win your Conference. Just shut up already nerd.

It would be cool to see UGA play Nebraska in a bowl game just to see if the 300+ yards they put on Tech was just an abberation or a sign of things to come. But Suh would probably eat Joe Cox . . .

There is a huge difference in GT and Nebraska CMS. GT couldn’t do anything about it no matter what they tried. Nebraska would adjust just like most SEC teams would adjust and then the OC starts playing Chess with the DC. Tech just wasn’t man enough that night.

CMS, UGA can run the football. What I’m saying is there are some teams that will adjust and are physical enough to make the adjustment work. Texas A&M? 300+ yds? I don’t know. But I do know we can run it enough to make them stop the run and then exploit that adjustment. GT just wasn’t big enough or strong enough to stop it once UGA’s offensive line took charge. UGA was physical enough to impose it’s will on GT. The key to the Texas A&M game will be defense. Otherwise it’s another shootout.
