Key to beating Aggies: Play keep-away

Jerrod Johnson is the type of QB that gives the Dogs fits. (Associated Press)

Jerrod Johnson is the type of QB that gives the Dogs fits. (Associated Press)

The Independence Bowl probably isn’t much on the minds of the folks at ESPN2, but if they do spend any time looking ahead to the Georgia-Texas A&M matchup, they’ll no doubt be licking their chops over the prospects of a shootout between two teams known for scoring points and for having suspect defenses.

Especially with the sidebar that one of the teams fired all but one of its defensive coaches and will see the former quarterback head coach and two graduate assistants helping the lone survivor try to scheme against the No. 5 total offense in the country.

I watched that Texas-Texas A&M game on Thanksgiving night in which Aggies QB Jerrod Johnson was so impressive, and when it was mentioned they might be headed to the Independence Bowl, I remember thinking, “I really don’t want to see the Dogs facing that quarterback.”

Ranked sixth in the nation for total offense, Johnson is one of those mobile throw-or-run types that the Dogs have had trouble with over the past couple of years. He’s passed for 3,217 yards (averaging 268 per game) for 28 touchdowns and has run 131 times for a net of 455 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Aggies rack up an average of 465 yards per game on offense and rank 15th in the country in scoring at 33.9 points per game. They rank 22nd in passing offense (274.9 yards per game) and 25th in rushing offense (190 yards per game). They scored 38 or more points in six games this year. They’ll be meeting a Georgia defense that gave up 34 or more points five times this season but still managed to rank 30th in total defense, 33rd in pass defense and 40th in rushing defense.

The other side of the coin might put a gleam in the eye of Mike Bobo as he anticipates the first meeting between these schools since the Herschel days: The Aggies are even worse on defense than Georgia on its worst day this season, ranking 87th in the nation against the run (giving up 168 yards per game) and a dismal 111th nationally in pass defense (yielding 263 yards per game). The Aggies gave up 47 or more points four times this season, including 65 to Oklahoma and 62 to Kansas State.

Aggies fans have taken note of the way the Dogs approached their game against Georgia Tech, running a ball-control offense and eating up clock, and that’s what they fear most from Georgia in the bowl game. A&M tends to have trouble stopping hard-running tailbacks, and the Dogs have a pair of them in Caleb King and Washaun Ealey. And then there’s the prospect of Georgia getting back its biggest offensive weapon in time for the bowl: A.J. Green.

So the game plan for Georgia appears clear: Keep Jerrod Johnson off the field by running the ball. And when the Aggies crowd the box too much, throw it downfield to A.J. Another plus to keeping the ball on the ground: If Joe Cox spends most of his time handing it off, he won’t be as likely to fall vicitim to Aggies defensive end Von Miller, who leads the nation in quarterback sacks with 17.

Speaking of Cox, I got a chuckle out of the way one Aggies fan blogger summed him up: “Cox is a mediocre college QB. Unfortunately our defense can make mediocre QBs look like world beaters.” Sounds like Georgia fans describing the Dogs defense after the Tennessee game.

Of course, regardless of the opponent, Georgia fans are less than thrilled that the Dogs’ season-ending upset of the team that went on to win the ACC championship failed to improve our bowl standings. Interestingly, the Aggies’ fans apparently aren’t thrilled with going to Shreveport, either. They wanted to play Navy in the Texas Bowl, which actually pays less than the Independence. That might tell you a little something about their state of mind after a 6-6 season.

Tebow is average–literally–he’s ranked #60 in rushing and is 35% completion rating in the red zone in 2009.

Joe Cox average?
Joe Cox stands up pretty well against some of the greatest QB’s:

Tom Brady 1998 Michigan
131 Effic., 15 td’s, 12 int’s, 2636 yards

Joe Cox 2009 Georgia

——————————————-

——————————————-
Dan Marino, Pittsburg, 1982
58% completion, 2432 yards, 17 td’s, 23 int’s, 67 pass rating

Joe Cox, Georgia, 2009
56% Completion, 2426 yards, 22 td’s, 14 int’s, 138 pass rating

Joe Montana, 1978

Keys to Dogs Winning?

December 7th, 2009

Right on, Georgia’s only chance without defensive coaching leadership is to play keep-away and give the ball to Ealey and King.

Can Bobo do that? I’m not sure. Bobo seems remarkably naiive at comprehending winning offensive formulas like this one:

Richt is 40 wins and 3 losses when he gets a 100 yard rusher

Bobo only got Richt a 100 yard rusher in 2 games this year, Richt won both of course.

In addition to running the ball 40+ times, the Georgia defense needs to get 2 turnovers, and the Special teams need to make a Big return to help out the defense.

Dear Georgia fans: you can either have a cakewalk or a blowout the wrong way, depending on which Aggie team shows up. They are really Jekyl and Hyde this year. Their quarterback leads the Big 12 but their defense can not tackle a lick. Good luck and enjoy the game. Score should be about 52-48 either way. BTW UGA did not keep Tech off the field. They just simply ran it up the gut and scored. And Tech had the ball last with a chance to win which is all you can ask for.

GLORY GLORY TO OLE’ GEORGIA!!!

LET’E BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES FOR A MOMENT. WE ARE LANDING IN SHREVEPORT, BECAUSE WELL, WE EARNED NOTHING BETTER THAN SHREVEPORT. I, LIKE THE MAJORITY OF DAWG NATION DO INDEED LOOK FORWARD TO TURNING ON THE TV ON THE 28TH, POPPING OPEN A BEER AND WATCHING WHAT WE LOVE… BULLDAWG FOOTBALL. HOWEVER, I DO NOT EXPECT A HUGE UGA TURNOUT AT THE GAME. I ALSO DO NOT CONSIDER THIS A “MUST WIN” GAME BY ANY MEANS. EVERYBODY CLOSE TO THE PROGRAM KNOWS WE HAVE MUCH MORE ON OUR MINDS THAN WINNING THIS GAME.

UNFORTUNATELY, WE ARE HAVING TO TAKE A PAGE FROM THE NERDS THIS YEAR, AND ADMIT THAT THE 2009 SEASON WILL BE REMEMBERED AND BASED ON ONE GAME…. THAT IS THE GAME WITH THE 30-24 OUTCOME. GOOD THINGS ARE ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN ATHENS, WITH A FRESH, YOUNG QB NEXT SEASON, AND THE ADDITION OF A NEW DEFENSE ALL TOGETHER. WE HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE ON THE 28TH, AND I FEEL THE ONLY REASON WE ACCEPTED IS BECAUSE WE OWE IT TO THE SENIORS THAT WORKED THEIR TAILS OFF THE 4 OR 5 YEARS THEY PLAYED IN RED AND BLACK.

IM ANXIOUS TO GET INTO THE OFFSEASON, AND AM COUNTING THE DAYS DOWN TO SPRING PRACTICE, SO WE CAN HAVE SO MANY POSITIVE THINGS TO ANTICIPATE. THIS OFFSEASON SHOULD BE A FUN ONE, UNLIKE THE MOST RECENT ONSLAUGHT OF GEORGIA TECH FANS RUNNING THEIR MOUTHS ABOUT THAT 3 POINT WIN THAT IS VIRTUALLY FORGOTTEN, AND EVERY “PROFESSIONAL” WRITER WANTING TO TELL US HOW SCREWED WE ARE SINCE FORMER #7 AND #24 LEFT US EARLY.

THE UPCOMING OFFSEASON WILL SHINE FOCUS ON TOMORROW, AS OPPOSED TO YESTERDAY….. ALL WITH A LITTLE STAB HERE AND THERE TO THE TUNE OF “30-24!!!!”

GOOD LUCK IN THE PREPERATION AND EXECUTION OF THE BOWL. THIS DAWG FAN LOOKS FORWARD TO THE BRIGHT THINGS THE FUTURE HOLDS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA FOOTBALL PROGRAM!!!

For what’s it worth, Sonny Smart, Kirby’s dad, interviewed last week from his home in Dillard Georgia,
” I would imagine Kirby would listen to Coach Richt, they both( his wife played basketball at UGA) love the university of Georgia”. He also said FSU is sniffing around also……..also stated he really likes Saban and his Job at Bama…………………………………….My two cents….And mine only….. If Bama wins it all this year, Saban will consider his job done at Bama……He will be back next year, but me thinks when the Michigan job comes open next year, and it will, they are coming after him full bore with the Checkbook open. He would love nothing more to cement his college coaching legacy to have won THREE NATIONAL TITLES at THREE different schools, while getting rich in the process……please, I hope you don’t think Saban is hell bent on retiring ( or loyal to) Alabama.
Go Tide…..This Dawg is pulling for you to win it ALL this year.

Bulldog Nation,
Next year you’re starting from scratch again with a new QB, a new DC, and a shaky OC. You won’t be highly ranked pre-season, so you’ll likely have NO shot at a MNC (assuming you’d actually win all your games, ha!). Tech, meanwhile, will probably be ranked pre-season top 10 (assuming everybody comes back, and pre-season top 20) if one or two players leave early.

So, while you’re in Shreveport, make sure you make reservations for the 2011 Independence Bowl too!!!!

What the Huck!

Alabama was 6-6 two years ago and lost to La Monroe enroute to Shreveport…..We have a tremendous number of great young players. I believe the future is bright. I see the glass as half-full and any bowl game–even one in Shreveport–is worth it beacause it gives us more time to develop a QB for next year. And for all the Tech folks who are crowing about their trip to Miami…Congratulations. You won your league. You will destroy the slow-footed Yankees from Iowa. But I promise you, Shreveport is more excited about having Georgia in town than Miami is about having Tech. You were given 17,500 tickets to sell. What the heck does Ga. Tech need with 17,500 tix? What are you going to do with the other 17,000 once you fill your orders? And any Tech fam who says they were more euphoric after their historic win over Clemson Saturday night than they were after beating Georgia last year is a bold-faced liar. Bet you won’t put this year’s score on your rings.

UGA probably won’t travel well to Shreveport. Maybe we will, but it’s hard to get excited about spending money to go there. But, we would fill up a major bowl game. The Orange bowl will have empty seats, unless Iowa brings a crowd.

The ACC championship game had a total of 42,000. That’s it. The only good thing is that attendance was up from last year’s 27,000. What a joke.

Amen, JB.

Any Tide fan that thinks Saban is loyal needs to lay off the PBR.
Saban has been anything but loyal to ALL of his former employers.
He will leave if the money is right. $6M a year and we won’t have to hear about the buckeyes anymore.

On another note:
I feel like the future is bright for the UGA defense. Our secondary will be better with the return of Rambo and the number one safety in the nation is on his way (Alex Ogletree). Add that to the return of B. Smith and S. Commings. Good things to come if we develop a pass rush.

I don’t really worry about the offense, because we are returning everyone. I realize we will have a new QB, but that sets up well for Murray or Mettenburger to have all the weapons already in place and an O line that is seasoned.

Good Blog – I think we will be toast – Texas A&M is going to blow us out. This is a much bigger game for Texas A&M – a building program that showed improvement during the year. I think UGA is playing to get this sorry season over.

UGA will revert back to what they have been this season:
- Joe cox will have at least 2 turnovers.
- UGA will have a least 3 turnovers.
- Our sorry defense will have at least 2 personal fouls.
- Our kickoff coverage will surrender great field position.
- We will not create a turn over.
- Texas A&M’s offense is going to eat our lunch early in the game as we will not have an answer.
This – is – UGA 2009 Football!!

Texas A&M wins by 3 touchdowns – bank it!

The Outback Bowl got what it deserved by selling their soul so they could sale extra bowl tickets. Northwestern vs. Auburn at 10 AM on New Year’s Day is one of the worst matchups of the bowl season. Have fun with those TV ratings. Oh yeah, Outback the restaurant is highly overated, just like their bowl game they sponsor. If I was a UT fan, I would be happy that we fell to the Chick-fil-a Bowl. The Chick-fil-a Bowl has passed the Outback in prestige and it has been that way for a while.

Apparently beating you isn’t worth much, since the Dawgs are heading to Shreveport after that beat down in your own house, when you’re having you best season in years and UGA is having a typical tech-like season. Enjoy your brief visit to the top 10, UGA’s normal residence, knowing it will be business as usual when your backfield graduates and you have no one to run that high school offense anymore. It looks like a good matchup, if the Dawgs get their defensive ducks in a row with Garner and a couple of grad assistants. If Geogia doesn’t flub multiple times on offense with turnovers and penalties, the RBs should have another big night.

I can’t understand why some of the Dawg fans are so down about this game. Must be the faux fans who wanted them to lose to Tech, so the whole coaching staff would be fired. The chance to go 8-5 is a lot better than 7-5, so I’d think the Dawgs’ players are glad to be playing one more time.

I’m perplexed at people saying UGA got what it deserved. Kentucky, South Carolina, Auburn, and Arkansas had 3-5 SEC conference records. UGA had a 4-4 SEC conference record. It looks like the pecking order of the bowl selections for the above schools relative to SEC conference standings is upside down. This does not make sense. Does this mean the SEC commissioner failed to represent the SEC conference properly? Or do the SEC conference standings have no importance? Is the SEC commissioner making the case that overall records should replace SEC standings? ( I’m surprised a reporter hasn’t already picked up on this.)

murfdawg – what do you have against the cover-two that you would ‘never’ run it? It forces a QB to be very accurate – and if you have a good front-4 on defense – who can pressure the QB – the cover-two works really well. I’m not saying that the cover-two is the best defensive plan – but it should be another component of a defensive scheme to use depending on what type of offense (and OB and receivers) the opposing side is running.

Shreveport is fine-no need to complain or lament lost opportunities (KY, LSU). We just need to accept the opportunity, beat the Aggies and look towards building something better for 2010.

Honestly, you can’t expect much of an increase in stature from beating GT. Nobody outside of Atlanta takes GT seriously. They are very good at running their offense but their defense is god awful.

Peggy,
The reason why reporters don’t bring up issues like this to the commissioner is because most reporters are scared to ask the tough questions. Reporters just want to keep cashing those checks. Slive got what he wanted already, a 1 vs. 2 in the Dome for the SEC championship and two SEC teams in the BCS. Pass that, he could care less what the other bowls do.

Something just struck me about the post that said Mark Richt is going to Notre Dame. On the face of it, it’s BS. But since CMR dumped his friends Willie and the strength coach, what are his remaining ties to Georgia? As an outsider, I’m just asking.

Delbert, I’d say Richt letting Martinez and company go is a better indication he would be staying at UGA rather than leaving. If he was leaving, he’d probably leave the coaching staff intact and let the next person coming in clean house/bring in his own men. Stranger things have happened i guess, but that would be my take on it.

Georgia and Tech both need to win their bowl games. Georgia did well against us in the Big Game on November 28. They ran the ball successfully. I’m thikning the same will work against A & M, unless the Aggies have a terrifically strong defense. Georgia needs the win for pride. Not only would it give the Dawgs an 8-5 season, but they’ve lost three of the four games ever played against Texas A & M.

Tech needs to win, to show they can run against a reputedly strong defense. Offense is their only chance to win against Iowa, because the Tech defense is not going to stop anything. This could be another embarrassing postseason beatdown.

Got my Bowl Game package from the UGA Athletic Department – now that we are in the prestigious Weed-Eater Bowl, I sent it back, marking across the front: “You got to be kiddin’, right?”

I wish all five UGA fans that will actually attend this stupid, embarrasing bowl, well. In this economy, to spend good money to go to Shreveport? Yea, right …

UGA needs to understand that as the team declines, so do the fan’s and alum’s support. I’m a huge UGA alum and fan and have been donating to the University and buying season tickets for almost 25 years. This season was undisciplined, poorly coached, lacked effort at times, and mostly under-achieved by a bunch of guys who failed to execute. I’m tired of sending money to UGA and getting this kind of performance in return. I’m a huge fan of Mark Richt, but I am really hurting. Maybe he will find some new energy and a new plan now that he realizes we were the 8th overall SEC pick and have accepted the worst bowl in the post season. I hope he enjoys watching another SEC team play for the National Championship – I won’t.

There are already three listings for tickets on ebay. A pair of tickets on the lower deck forty-five yard line (row 12) is going for $30 (total) buy-it-now. There is a Motel 6 near the stadium with vacancies for $39. If you are in the ‘Goin 6′ club, there is a $8 discount per night available. I’m not sure if it is available on game day or not though. There is a Waffle House within walking distance.

I understand the Dawgs will be giving select Hartman Fund contributors the chance to sit in folding chairs along the sidelines (18 feet from sideline starting at 20 yard markers on east side only) for $195 per head. The Hartman Fund contribution level is 6,000 or more points. The seat will include a commemorative plastic cushion and cup holder. This is the same distance as the hedges are from Sanford Stadium sideline. Quite an opportunity to see the action up close.

Peggy – I think that ultimately, Georgia is being punished for playing a difficult schedule. The Lords of the Game decry soft scheduling, but then punish a team that flies in the face of it. Replace the OKSt loss with a creampuff win to start the year and we are in a New Year’s Day bowl at 8-4. Only four teams played three BCS teams OOC: UGA, GT, UConn, and Syracuse. The two Big East schools played only 7 league games, so they only had 10 BCS games. Texas had no BCS teams on the OOC schedule. The average (mode) of OOC BCS teams? One. I like playing the harder schedule, but we should be rewarded for it at the end of the year instead of punished.

(Oh yeah. Georgia OOC BCS opponent’s record? 24-13. Tech OOC BCS opponent’s record? 14-22)

georgia87: Couldn’t agree more. Everyone complains about teams that have a soft OOC schedule, but without a playoff, there is the highest priority on going undefeated.

You do not get penalized for playing and beating creampuffs. You get penalized for losing-to anyone. Therefore do everything in your power to go undefeated. You can’t control your conference schedule, only your OOC schedule.

What’s the pressing need to bring in a “high profile” DC? I’m guessing that Alabama really wants to hang on to Kirby Smart, just in case their vagabond HC wants to boogie on to somewhere else. Smart got a lot of exposure Saturday on national TV. There are a lot of candidates for a bigger job out there.

For example:

Everett Withers at UNC, if he could be pried away from Butch Davis. Mucho experience.

Greg Hudson of East Carolina. Program transformer, aggressive defenses.

Tim Banks at Cental Michigan. A young up-and-comer in a successful program. Anybody catch them on TV against Ohio? in the MAC championship game?

God, how I love to rattle the dawg’s chain. Listen up pups,
You’re going to start a new QB. If either of the new QB’s were better than Joe Cox this year, then why didn’t they start? Pete Carroll at USC didn’t have any second thoughts about starting the freshman Barkley because he was BETTER than his upperclassmen. Was it because of Richt’s nice-guy loyalty to the senior? Was it Bobo’s call? Or maybe it was cause Cox was truly the best QB among the bunch. If so, what does that say about the other QB’s?

You’re going to have a new DC. How much time will it take for him to get up to speed? What TOP-NOTCH DC is going to want to come here when he already knows that Richt/Bobo are on the hot seat and it could be a SHORT one year experience for him (and his family) if the Dawgs still suck next year? Kind of sucks to have to uproot your family for just a year. Arent’ most Dawgs fans true feelings that Richt/Bobo’s play calling/game management is also a problem and should be resolved just as much as the defense.

If Richt had any common sense, he’d play Cox one drive in the 1st quarter, then hand it over to the youngins. But he probably won’t because he has “loyalty” to Cox, and wants to make sure he gives the seniors their well-deserved “bowl experience”. LOL!

Of course he had smaller players at Ga Southern. I don’t care who coaches the kids from a smaller school like Ga Southern, they will lose to the big schools 99 out of 100 times. The size of the recruits will be bigger at a BCS conference scool. Which is what Johnson is going after now. And by the way he’s not “my” quarterback. I’m not a Tech player or fan either for that matter. I, personally, am more of a professional football fan, but just wanted to point out that you were possibly mistaken in assuming Gailey’s recruits can/do run Johnson’s system better than the kids Paul Johnson goes out and gets will.

I love to see the Dog fans refer to “8-1″. I could flip that to “8-4″. (yes Dog fans, go check the recordbook, 98, 99, 2000 – all Tech wins). This is just more proof than statistics mean nothing more than what one wants them to mean. As CPJ said, we don’t need to compare ourselves to Georgia. We may have a smaller stadium, have less “fans”, and play in the ACC, but we met our team goals and we did it with class (I loved seeing JD and the guys go hug Spiller after the title game – all class). Under “Dog Logic” because UGA plays in the SEC and “may” have won the ACC, or the Big East, Mountain West, or WAC, they should be in a BCS game. That’s just nuts. Just win the games on your schedule Dogs and everything will take care of itself. Don’t like playing second fiddle to Florida and Bama, then join a different league. We can’t have you in the ACC because your academic standards are too low, but C-USA and the Big East are always looking for new teams. With respect to this year, kudos to Georgia for having a good game plan and taking advantage of some Tech turnovers. It is just one game. I know we can’t wait to do it again in Athens next year.

flagboy? –

Those 3 guys you mentioned will be big losses.
Stephen Hill has to “grow” into the spot that Thomas currently occupies. He is very talented, fast and 2″ taller than Thomas, but as a true freshman, not yet bulked up. The other receivers return.

Nobody can replace Morgan, but at least Tech will have Hall, the other starting DE that missed the entire season, back. Also, true FR Izaan Cross now has one full year in the program on the 2-deep at DE. Barnes has two years in, as RS and backup DT. He’s 6′7, 350. Have to see what another year of strength and conditioning will do.

Dwyer’s backup, Preston Lyons will return. Also Lucas Cox, Dwyer’s backup/A back last year & this year. Daniel Drummond was redshirted this year; he is 6′4, 250+ . Johnson may use Allen at B back, he’s big enough, and fast.

Cooper Taylor will return, possibly as a soph, if the petition goes through. He didn’t play after the 1st half at Miami, had chest surgery. 6′4″, 200+ Safety/Rover, big playmaker, sub-4.4 forty.

*Somebody* needs to be hired to coach up the defense, especially DBs and LBs. Similar, but worse problem as Georgia.

If his starting salary was $120,000 it is because he went to either law school or med school. Given what he alleges his current salary and age is, a middle pack partner level attorney sounds about right.

Nobody in the history of UGA has made that much money as a 22 year old newly minted undergrad (of course this does not count professional athletes who went to UGA – most of whom do not have UGA degrees anyway).

Delbert, I don’t think there is anyone there to replace Dwyer. He has a rare combo of speed and power, especially considering he can get out on the corner as well.

I think Thomas is about the perfect WR for tech’s offense. . .big enough to overpower DB’s in that man coverage, so easy throws turn into big plays.

With that said, tech is one injury away from being average. If Nesbitt goes down, the offense will not move. I have enjoyed hearing about how UGA intentionally injured Nesbitt. I don’t normally post overly negative comments, but those comments from the tech “fans” are pretty low.

I think CPJ can recruit who he needs.
CPJ’s “system QB” Jordan Luallen is in the house, redshirting this year. Maybe they can work him in for some reps next year behind Nesbitt and Shaw. He’s a Wing-T option QB, 6′4, 210 lb, and 4-year sprinter in HS track. State champ team in football. Oh, yeah the ratings stuff: top 10 nationally, Rivals and Scout, dual-purpose. Four of those meaningless *stars*, too. Same ratings as Nesbitt, but already an option QB.

Tech has another 5′11 230 lb QB RS this year, David Sims. Dual threat guy, #54 QB and #20 athlete. More of a Nesbitt-type QB. 5,800 passing yards, 37 TD, and 2,800 rushing yards career. Only three *stars*, though, poor guy. ESPN national HS player of the week one time.

UGA is the ACC Champion as the Bulldogs whipped USCe who in turn beat the snot out of your ACCCG opponent. Yeah, go ahead and rub it in – UGA deserves it this year for having such an inept coaching staff. The sad news for you is that UGA will be back in top form in no time and you know it. This just in: The NCAA (with advice from ESPN and CBS’s Gary Danielson) have decided to give Tim Tebow a 5th year of eligibility. “The Tebow Rule” states that Timmy will remain at UF until he wins another Natl Championship and Heisman or plays enough games that he runs out bible verses to put on his eye-black. Reasons of note for the rule’s passing: The NCAA would like to dismiss the perception that “there is no crying in football” also they have teamed with the christian coalition to make sure that EVERY student-athlete interviewed must conclude with “God Bless.”

Interesting observation which sort of flips all the YAYA from the Yechsters. Ok back to the theme of this blog. Texas A&M is a mystery to me as I did not follow anyone in their conference. If what I have read so far is correct they have an outstanding passing game which will give our DB’s fits. The best way to overcome this is to put pressure on their QB often. Contain and remember pass coverage assignments and wrap up on the tackles instead of shoulder tackling. I am very interested in seeing just how the remaining coaching staff puts together the defensive game plan. I think the players as well as the coaches know just how important a win will be, not only for recruiting, but for that all important big M going into the next season. I feel we will control the O line and with innovative D line schemes they could put a stop to the pass. I say it again. Interesting to see how this plays out.

I wonder how much of Texas A&Ms offense prowess is due to the fact most Big 12 teams play no defense. Look how many points UT put on A&M, and then when they played a good D (Nebraska) they barely got a win and put up less than 20. I am not saying A&Ms offense is not good, (or our D is either)it is just their numbers are undoubtedly skewed from the no defense Big 12.

We need to take the same approach that we did against Tech trying to control the clock/ball, get big plays (turnovers and 3rd downs) on D, and not screw up anything else. A&M might have the worst defense that we have seen all season, so it should not be hard from the offensive standpoint.

I like us to win like 35-20 or something like that.

Georgia's Past Bowl Success & Failures...

December 8th, 2009
12:15 pm

If you look at the 8 Bowl’s Richt has coached Georgia in, his record is 6 wins and 2 losses.

The 2 losses had 3 things in common:
1) we got outrushed yardage wise
2) we did NOT call more running plays than pass plays
3) we committed 2 or more turnovers

For the 6 wins, 5 out 6 times, we RAN the BALL more than we passed it. The only exception was 2004, and we needed to get 2 takeaways to win that game. My concern is Bobo will be stubborn and stick to his INEPT offensive Charlie Weis like pass-happy philosophy which will get us outrushed, and we’ll turn the ball over 3 or 4 times like Bobo has in 4 out of 5 of our losses in 2009. Bobo has a stubborn streak 1000 miles long. For example, Georgia only had a 100 yard rusher in 2 games in 2009, even though Ricvht’s record is 40 wins and only 3 losses when Richt gets a 100 yard rusher.

In 2009 here is how that worked out for Bobo’s stubborn INEPT offensive philosoophy:
Get a 100 yard rusher
Record: 2 wins, 0 losses

Do not get a 100 yard rusher
Record: 5 wins, 5 losses

This will be a complete shootout. A&M does not get up for a game except for the Longhorns. So they won’t take UGA seriously. On the other hand, UGA won’t take them seriously either.

We have to do the same thing we did against Tech. Take control from the very start! A&M took control against Texas, but Texas came back. But Texas never pulled away.

Whoever has the ball last will win. Hopefully it will be us!

Let’s be fair and rehire these fired coaches. After all, the results next year will be the same regardless of who the coaches are. UGA will lose to South Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, and probably someone else. Coaching changes will not improve anything for 2010. In 2011, UGA will win most, if not all of its games, regardless of who might be coaching and the results would be the same had the three fired coaches returned. So, let.s be fair and call em back! Whatcha say?

FairestFrank

December 8th, 2009

What’s more, we could save a lot of money since the difference a new and more expensive coach will achieve the same results as Willie and the gang would have achieved anyway. It would be a lot easier to improve our offense than to hire new coaches on defense. We just need to devise a game plan that will permit us to eclipse our opponent’s score by one point….and no more. We have a far greater opportunity and reality of improving our offense than our defense. If we can improve our offense by four touchdowns per game, we can win the SEC. That would be much easier than improving our sorry defense. Just think of the money UGA could save by being realistic instead of wasting so much money just because the fans want an idealistic defense. We should only recruit offensive linemen who weigh at least 350 llbs, run the forty in 4.7 seconds, and can bench press no less than 500 lbs. By accomplishing this, we can score at will and remember, we only need to score a single point more than our opponents. In this scenario, even a sorry defense, like we will continue to have will, will work. HIRE WILLIE BACK!!

Personally, I only care about the DAWGS victory, over GATech. If they win the bowl, fine. If not, they’re already successful, because they’ve shut up the Jacket fans for at least a year.
What I’m saying is, I have a friend, who harped long and hard, about Tech’s string of victories from 1949 through 1956.
Then, after the DAWGS matched the number of years, during which time he pretended to have changed his favorite, he comes up wtih, “Did you see how badly – (yea, right…two points) Tech beat y’all?”
And when I told him that, after seven straight years, the DAWGS got tired of whipping the insects.
His reply was, “You can’t look to the past.”

Well, guess what? He has yet to acknowledge the “in-your-face-jack” email I’ve sent him!!
