Will the Dogs go bowling in Atlanta or Shreveport? (UGA Sports Communications)
Atlanta? Shreveport? We’ll find out Sunday evening.
I’m hoping for the Chick-fil-A Bowl but recognize there were times this season when the Dogs looked like they’d be lucky to make it to the Independence Bowl.
I noticed the other day when I wrote about how Shreveport is not a popular destination among SEC teams, some defender of the Louisiana city took umbrage in the comments. Hey, I’ve got nothing against Shreveport itself. But its bowl, in its last year of a tie-in with the SEC, doesn’t generate much buzz. Though whenever I hear the Independence Bowl mentioned, I think of a time back in the 1990s when I was at a UGA baseball game and a guy sitting behind me, who did a dead-on impression of Ray Goff, kept drawling, “Dadburnit, Vince, I like Shreveport!”
Anyway, whichever bowl the Dogs get, the athletic association has announced that tickets will be available to the general public beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday online via the ticket office Web site. Fans also can order bowl tickets by calling 1-877-542-1231 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. All ticket requests will be filled in the order in which they are received, subject to availability.
All Hartman Fund donors will receive the number of tickets to the bowl they requested during the pre-order process and also will receive priority on ticket assignments based on their cumulative donation score, the athletic association says.
The Dogs will be making their 45th bowl game appearance. Georgia currently has a 25-16-3 bowl record. This will be the Bulldogs’ ninth straight bowl appearance under Mark Richt.
SUPPORT BUTLER
All-American Drew Butler, who leads the nation in punting, is considered the leading candidate for the Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nation’s top punter. The winner will be announced on ESPN’s College Football Awards, televised starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday. ESPN is conducting a straw poll online as to who should win the award. To show your support for Butler, go here and vote.
GEORGA VS. GEORGIA TECH AGAIN
The Lady Bulldogs take on Tech’s women’s basketball team at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens in a game that will be televised regionally on CSS and carried on radio in Athens via AM 960 The Ref. The game will be the first of a school-record 14 regular-season TV appearances for the Lady Dogs this season.
Georgia, ranked No. 13 in the AP poll and No. 16 in the ESPN/USA Today poll, is 7-0 so far this season, while Tech, ranked 23rd in the AP poll, is 5-1. This will be the first time both teams have entered their matchup ranked in the AP poll.
Georgia leads the series 28-3, including an 11-0 mark at Stegeman Coliseum. Tech won 57-42 last year in Atlanta.
Go Dogs!

10 SEC teams in bowl games.
7 ACC teams in bowl games, including Florida State who is only 6-6.
The ACC did not even fill its guaranteed bowl slots.

With your men’s basketball team on NCAA PROBATION with a APR of 914 limiting Georgia Tech to only 11 scholarships in basketball, I can see why you wouldn’t want basketball on the blog.

dawg fans—better get those tickets fast!!! Also, that old motel 6 near the freeway in shreveport may sell out, so call and make a reservation quick! They’ll leave the light on for you! Meanwhile, I’ll be in South Beach partying for 3-4 days, playing golf with some of our firm’s clients in Miami, enjoying the clubs, the beaches and hot chicks all over town!!! It’s hard to be humble when you’re a Tech engineer!!!

Thanks, Zeno. It sure makes sense to me to be more worried about where I was 30 years ago than where I’m going. Do y’all drive by looking in the rear view mirror instead of through the windshield? And when you crash like this year’s football program, do you congratulate yourself because two friends didn’t crash?

It’s too bad that in our down year we didn’t get to go to the Humanitarian Bowl.

To make UGA fans feel right at home in our beautiful city of Shreveport, we are constructing 20 new “double-seater” outhouses next to the stadium. Sears has donated 3,000 catalogs to be used in lieu of Charmin. The city of Shreveport looks forward to UGA’s visit.

I can’t wait to see ESPN 360, or whoever is going to cover the Independence Bowl, pan the crowd (crown being a euphemism for many dawg gathering) so would-be recruits get to see all the empty seats. Meanwhile back in Charlotte, all the great players from Butler High (Indpendence High’s Daddy) and Independence, get to see the Tar Heels and all their fans up-close and personal. Go Tar Heels!

I’m booking my flight to Miami today, and will be staying right near the beach. Nice this time of year, with lots of good scenery!!! The quality of the ladies down there is amazing. I may not come back!!! Dawgs–enjoy the cold and snow in shreveport, the armpit of america!! Texas A&M will beat the dawgs easy—mark it down.
