Bulldog Bites: Bowl tickets on sale Sunday night

Will the Dogs go bowling in Atlanta or Shreveport? (UGA Sports Communications)

Will the Dogs go bowling in Atlanta or Shreveport? (UGA Sports Communications)

Atlanta? Shreveport? We’ll find out Sunday evening.

I’m hoping for the Chick-fil-A Bowl but recognize there were times this season when the Dogs looked like they’d be lucky to make it to the Independence Bowl.

I noticed the other day when I wrote about how Shreveport is not a popular destination among SEC teams, some defender of the Louisiana city took umbrage in the comments. Hey, I’ve got nothing against Shreveport itself. But its bowl, in its last year of a tie-in with the SEC, doesn’t generate much buzz. Though whenever I hear the Independence Bowl mentioned, I think of a time back in the 1990s when I was at a UGA baseball game and a guy sitting behind me, who did a dead-on impression of Ray Goff, kept drawling, “Dadburnit, Vince, I like Shreveport!”

Anyway, whichever bowl the Dogs get, the athletic association has announced that tickets will be available to the general public beginning at 8 p.m. Sunday online via the ticket office Web site. Fans also can order bowl tickets by calling 1-877-542-1231 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. All ticket requests will be filled in the order in which they are received, subject to availability.

All Hartman Fund donors will receive the number of tickets to the bowl they requested during the pre-order process and also will receive priority on ticket assignments based on their cumulative donation score, the athletic association says.

The Dogs will be making their 45th bowl game appearance. Georgia currently has a 25-16-3 bowl record. This will be the Bulldogs’ ninth straight bowl appearance under Mark Richt.

SUPPORT BUTLER

All-American Drew Butler, who leads the nation in punting, is considered the leading candidate for the Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nation’s top punter. The winner will be announced on ESPN’s College Football Awards, televised starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday. ESPN is conducting a straw poll online as to who should win the award. To show your support for Butler, go here and vote.

GEORGA VS. GEORGIA TECH AGAIN

The Lady Bulldogs take on Tech’s women’s basketball team at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens in a game that will be televised regionally on CSS and carried on radio in Athens via AM 960 The Ref. The game will be the first of a school-record 14 regular-season TV appearances for the Lady Dogs this season.

Georgia, ranked No. 13 in the AP poll and No. 16 in the ESPN/USA Today poll, is 7-0 so far this season, while Tech, ranked 23rd in the AP poll, is 5-1. This will be the first time both teams have entered their matchup ranked in the AP poll.

Georgia leads the series 28-3, including an 11-0 mark at Stegeman Coliseum. Tech won 57-42 last year in Atlanta.

Go Dogs!

This year is our year, folks, and CPJ is in this for the long haul…

On January 5th, after you’ve shaken off that 4 day hangover watching everyone else play in a BCS (or top-tier) bowl game, grab a few beers (and perhaps a few of your players), head over to CMR’s house, find a spot on his sofa (it will be a little crowded… you may want to call ahead), throw your feet up and enjoy the Orange Bowl!! We’ll take care of our business in Miami, enjoy that win for a few minutes, then turn our attention back to the cheap shot on Nesbitt last week and start preparing for next November in Athens…

The times, they are a-changin’ my friends, and what was old (gold) is new again…

Go Jackets!!!

Ok, all GA fans. Would you rather have beaten Tech or played yesterday and won the SEC Championship??? That’s what Johnson was talking about.

BuLLdawg, congrats again on the upset over Tech. For a non-rivalry that you claim to not even be important on your schedule you are so excited about that win that you have been on this blog for hours typing about that win. Sounds like it made your season. Have fun in Shreveport.

So this is Tech’s first BCS game. Georgia has been to a BCS games as SEC Champs and with an at-large bid. We’ve been there before and will be there again, probably before Tech gets back to another BCS game. We’ll take our invite to whatever lousy bowl we get this year and use that extra practice time to get the young pups ready for next year. Can only imagine how many points Tech will give up to TCU or Cincy!

Seems there are basically two types of folks on these blogs these days.

Type A) Georgia Tech fans trying desperately to convince themselves that the paper crown of an ACC title will fill the void left by falling short against their in-state rival.

Type B) Georgia fans trying desperately to convince themselves that a victory over an overrated Georgia Tech team salves the wounds of a underachieving 7-5 season that featured blowout losses to Florida and Tennessee, not to mention a slow-drip nightmare of a loss to Kentucky.

Denial…it’s FAN-tastic!

GT=Best Team in State

Well, going to the Orange Bowl is decent consolation for losing to a lesser team. We’re clearly the best team in this state. And in a few other states as well.

Hey BuLLdawg, I don’t know where you got your SoS stats from, but Tech’s SoS is 15 according to Sagarin.

What is pitiful is this, we will take more to the weedeater bowl than the mighty jackets will take to the Orange Bowl. Last years Orange Bowl with the ACC champ was the least viewed BCS Bowl game ever, end of story. Tech just isn’t a relevant team, especially in the State of Ga.

jojatek — actually, this looks like it is Bama’s year. You can beat up on the bottom of the SEC but you can’t even beat the middle of the SEC. You would get drilled by Bama or Florida. Kinda like you got drilled by LSU in the bowl game last year.

Again, Georgia knows what it’s like to be in BCS games. Glad you’re finally getting a taste of it. And as for the cheap shot, how is gang tackling the ball carrier a cheap shot? Nesbitt wasn’t the only guy that went down. Georgia whooped Tech up and down the field in the trenches as well. That’s SEC football my friend.

I called about getting something off of my credit card, and it of course went to India. It was a Tech grad that answered. He said that it was a great school, and that he had fun, but that there were no women there. He said that he wished that he had gone to UGA so he would have a degree that was relevant these days. He said that he spent almost 5 years earning an engineering degree that was essentially worthless. He said that Tech ranked about 13th on the pecking order for engineering in the US and in Asia that they were in the 50’s. So for now he is resolved to working at a call center and getting a business degree so he would be able to; as he says, got a “job real”. Keep looking in the mirror and telling yourselves how great of a degree you have with Tech. Maybe you should take heed from those leaving your school and add some real majors at your school. It is pitiful when you are ranked the 4th best academic institution in the State of Ga. Jackets will win the bowl and they should be given all the credit, and I hope that they win big. Just stop all this other BS

Fantastic news for UGA fans: the Shreveport bowling alley has announced it will stay open all night before the bowl game.

Please pass this on to your UGA friends, especially the ones who can’t read.

What’s that? No, no sugar falling from the sky. Those things putting lumps on your head are ORANGES, you UGA losers.

By the way, your stupid ugly mutt went tango uniform! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

It’s really sad to see how frustrated the UGA fans are that they’re going to a pizzant losers bowl this year. Let’s do something nice for the former UGA players, at least the ones who are out on parole. Give an orange to the guys on the garbage truck this week. Oranges are nutricious, and they’ll appreciate the gesture.

And maybe you could help a UGA alum scrape the Obama-Biden bumper sticker off their Escort.

I have been going to college football games along time and I have never been to a game where they gave away two cars like at the UGA-Tech game. You Tech people get on here and brag about your degrees and your athletic program. At least at UGA we support our programs and don’t depend on commercialization. If it weren’t for a UGA grad., Billy Payne and the Olympics I would hate to see the facilities at Tech. I remember Techwood drive and if not for the building of the new dorms and other buildings there would be more robberies than they are now. Congratulations on the ACC Championship and if you think I sit around and worry that you are going to a better bowl than us for one year, you are crazy. I’m still waiting on someone to tell me why on the Jumbo Tron they tell the majors of all Senior Band Members, but they don’t tell the Majors of the Senior Football Team. As for as the arrests, it happens everywhere. Do we like it, NO, but I bet you didn’t like it when your coach and former player was arrested for pot.

One name that hasn’t been mentioned lately is Carl Torbush. He did a heck of a job at UNC and ALABAMA and was one of the hottest DC a few years ago. I think he’s at Miss. State now and they played Florida better than we did. I wonder if he is on Richt’s radar

you are absolutely right frank james…my boss is a GT grad and brags about his degree…I don’t understand why his nuclear engineering degree is more valuable than my soybean management degree? Maybe if you are going to Shreveport you can hang out in the double wide I’m planning on renting for the week with some other Dawg fans…Shreveport will be sooooo much better than South Beach Miami. I hear the Wal-Mart there rocks! Go Dawgs!

Hey Tech folks, how about staying off the dawg blog, they beat us and have a right howl. We had our fun last year, let the dawgs have there’s this year. The last two years our two teams fought to the end in close games, let’s hope every year will be that way in the future. You keep saying UGA doesn’t have class, how about us doing the same kind of stuff. Nothing we say or do will change this year’s score. Enjoy our league championship and win against the little 10, and think we can all agree on that.

You sure do know alot about those stores. Hey I tell you what while I am talking to Jerry, he is good friends with all the executives at Wal-Mart and maybe they will sponsor one of your games or maybe give away some guns at half. it’s obvious that tech don’t have a following fan base, just look at the attendnce last night versus clemson.clemson fans far out numbered tech’s fans,it’s a good thing that tech is only being allotted 17,000 tickets.a lack of a fan base is why tech is #2 in the state behind the dawgs.

I must say that Raji, Fatik, Musha, Indira and Fadi did exactly like like I told them… they obey orders very well. I had them stick a few of the seats from the “stadium” in my car as well. I do know one thing about gtu’s “campus”… it stinks of curry. ugh.
