Hi Bill,

I know UGA basketball will never get as much pub as UGA football (and deservedly so), but will you be covering basketball this year, or will we need to just rely on post-game stories in the paper?

I have enjoyed reading your stuff this year, and think it’ll be fun to follow you writing about the B-ball team as they try to rebuild (again) under Coach Fox.

Been to all but one bball game this year (lots of driving when football and bball overlap) and although this certainly doesn’t look like a year with a big win total, the players seem to have learned more already than they did in their entire careers under Felton. The biggest improvements have been with the big guys and Travis Leslie. They actually seem to be teaching Leslie how to harness his athleticism and use it to score without wildly turning the ball over so much, and Chris Barnes has made a couple of free throws – Wow! Anyway, the new offense is certainly more entertaining, and so is Fox’s demeanor during close games on the sideline. Note: small children should not sit close to the bench.

Go Dawgs!

It’s sad really. Days away from the first weekend in December, the UGA news is about coaching changes and basketball.

Could you find out why WSB-TV treats one of its marquee properties, UGA football (and now basketball) like a basterd stepchild by putting the Mark Richt Show on at midnight on late Sunday night/early Monday morning in the Atlanta area, the single biggest market for GA football? As you point out, GA fans can see the shows on cable at a far more reasonable and timely hour on Sunday, but why does WSB fail to give these shows a time slot on Sunday afternoon like GT gets for its shows??

We lost to Wofford. We really suck. We don’t deserve a prime slot for our basketball show. We will never be GT in basketball.

Being GT in basketball isn’t something to shoot for! When was GT’s last ACC title? Georgia won the SEC in 2008. GT 4 NCAA appearances since 2000. UGA with 3 NCAA appearances since 2000.

Billy (don’t be a hero, don’t be a fool with your life) Jack:

It would help if you could read. WSB-TV televises the Mark Richt Show at midnight as well as the basketball program. No reason for WSB to treat the UGA coaches’ shows the way it does, especially the one for the football program, since UGA is the flagship university in the State of Georgia.

Saint Simmons [sic]: You can’t spell or count. GT isn’t 11-2, it’s 10-2. And since you are in denial, let me remind you that GA is the state champion in college football for the next year, by virtue of its win over GT at GT (5 in a row for GA at GT!), and GA has been state champions for 8 of the last 9 years. So much for a meaningful “rivalry” with GT!!

Had the pleasure of meeting Coach Fox at SEC media days this year along with Albert Jackson. I came away very impressed with Coach Fox, his plan, and his impression on Albert and his buying into what Coach Fox is doing. I look forward to having him in Athens for MANY years to come.

Independence Bowl and UGA officials have said.

One of the sorry-butt Big XII teams.

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl is taking the vols so they can spend the night. Atlanta needs the convention revenue, badly.

33 Bulldogs in the NFL and another 4 on injured reserves, and this week DJ Shockley, who had finished his three-year $1.6 million dollar Falcons’ contract last year, was put back on the Taxi Squad by the Falcons.

17 Started in the NFL last week, who played here for our UGA Bulldogs.

Matthew Stafford in 9 NFL games so far has had 12 Touchdown Passes and 2 Rushing Touchdowns, with 18 Interceptions, 4 Fumbles, and a QB Rating of 62.

At 0-16 last season, these stats are against the worst teams in the NFL, as that is how the NFL does a schedule. Worst teams play worst teams, and best teams play best teams – unlike Georgia Tech who played 6 games (half their season of 12) against teams who will NOT be in a bowl game. (UGA 3.)

I told you so.

No sour grapes, Sour Grapes. GA leads the all-time series with FL despite FL’s success in the GA series over the past 20 years. The pendulum in the series will swing back to GA in due course. As for FL’s recent exploits on the field, you should be proud of them, but you need to put those accomplishments in context and perspective. For example, I happened to see a DVD in a Wal-Mart discount bin a while back titled “100 Years of Florida Football.” Apart from the fact that the DVD was literally being sold for almost nothing, implying something about its perceived public value, the problem with that DVD was that the producer of the DVD could have destroyed the first 82 years or so of FL football and no one, including the most ardent FL fan, would have cared because FL didn’t win an SEC championship until 1991. Until that time, FL was the epitome of ignominious football futility. When Gator fans talk about “the tradition” of FL football, they’re really only talking about the last 18 years or so because they so willingly forget, or choose to live in denial about, the overwhelming majority of Gator football history….. a legacy of failure on the football field that has endured far longer and with even greater distinction than FL’s relatively recent, and brief, success. So be careful when you suggest or imply Florida’s “great tradition” in football……..the vastly greater part of that tradition is, at best, forgettable, just as you have ostensibly forgotten that GA still leads the series with Florida in football despite FL’s recent success……..
