Dogs’ bowl hopes could ride on … Jackets

(Clemson University)

(Clemson University)

It looks as if Georgia’s hopes of landing in the Chick-fil-A Bowl rather than Shreveport’s Independence Bowl might be in the hands of in-state rival Georgia Tech.

Normally, many (if not most) Bulldogs fans would be rooting for the Clemson Tigers in Saturday’s ACC championship game with the Yellow Jackets.

ESPN.com’s Chris Low reports, however, that the Chick-fil-A Bowl is waiting on the ACC title game before finalizing its decision on whether to take Tennessee or Georgia for its SEC slot. A Tennessee-Virginia Tech matchup is very likely, Low says. But if Clemson loses to Georgia Tech in the ACC championship game, they likely would wind up in the Chick-fil-A since the Gator Bowl, which usually gets the ACC championship loser, wants to take retiring Bobby Bowden’s Florida State Seminoles.

And if Clemson winds up in Atlanta, Low says, the Chick-fil-A Bowl might decide to pair the Tigers with Georgia, a longtime rival. That would indeed be a hot ticket.

So what does that do to your feelings about the ACC title game? Can you suppress the gagging reflex and bring yourself to pull for the Jackets if it helps the Dogs’ chances of playing in Atlanta?

FSU?,

According to the Gator Bowl’s contract with the ACC, the team only has to invite the ACC title game loser once in four years, which it did with Georgia Tech in 2007. Without speculating on the matchup, Gator Bowl general chairman Dan Murphy told the Times-Union late Monday that it’s the GBA’s interpretation of the contract that the league’s one-loss rule (a team cannot be passed for consideration by an ACC bowl partner for a team more than one loss behind in the conference standings) does not apply if the Gator Bowl decides not to invite the championship game loser.

southside DAWG, by ACC Bowl selection rules, if GT does lose this weekend, either the Chick-fil-a Bowl or Gator Bowl must choose them based on their conference record.

Rules will be broken when money talks. Just ask the Outback bowl. Peach will not take Tech 2 years in a row. Gator will get FSU because FSU will spend the extra money to make it happen. Rules and records mean nothing to bowls its all about money and selling out the game.

Dumb Mutts, What if Clemson wins and VT finishes as the highest ranked ACC team? The numbers associated with the Bowls are the round they pick not the ranking in the conf. besides many closed door deals are often made in the Bowl Selection process.

I’d take UGA going to the Independance Bowl just to see GT play another SEC team in their best year since ‘90.

Georgia Tech 10-2
Georgie 7-5

Georgia Tech #10 BCS …even after screwing up and letting patsy Georgie defeat them
Georgie #50 ..not even one ‘others receiving votes’ in any poll

Georgia Tech ACC championship game
Georgie sitting at home watching SEC championship game

Georgia Tech one win away from the BCS and the Orange Bowl
Georgie headed to Sherveport or the pizza bowl

Georgia Tech looking forward to beating a hated conference rival for a second time
Georgie simply elated that somehow they were able to beat Georgia Tech just one more time before the Paul Johnson era comes into full swing in the coming decade

…and of course,

Georgia Tech 4 national championships –latest 1990
Georgie 1 –l ..haven’t done anything since 1980

Georgia Tech > Georgie

Coach Smith, Auburn will travel better thanks to their new Coach and a large percentage of UGA fans being discontent. southside has it correct its all about the money, travel and marketing to the TV. Auburn will draw more of both.

Looks like a win/win situation for UGA this weekend. If Clemson wins, hilarious, Yech’s losing streak continues. If the Tools win, we go to a better bowl and it’s at home. Either way, we all know who the real ACC champion is anyway, and dat be them Dawgs!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I’m a bit torn. I’d almost prefer for UGA to go to Shreveport as punishment and to send the message that this is the type of bowl our kid sister from Atlanta belongs in, not us. Maybe that will motivate the squad for next year not to gift wrap wins for the opposing teams. GO DAWGS!!!

The Peach bowl last year announced the ACC team a week early. Looks like they learned their lesson. It will sell out Sunday night. It has every year but sold out ealry last year when the ACC knew before the SEC teams did. They should announce all the bowls when they announce the BCS bowls on the same show. It makes it hard for fans that dont have season tickets but go to the bowl game every year.

huh? = pathetic

Dawg fans do need to pull for Tech to get this matchup.

UGA vs Clemson is a terriffic renewal of an old Rivalry and the Chick Fil A bowl is one of the best non BCS bowls. It’s in a prime time slot on NYE. That would be a fine bowl to end the season no doubt.

Since the bee fans love to reminiscence back to 1990, let’s do a recap. The nerds have had 3 10+ win seasons (one of which was their cheating year of 1998), which also includes their half of the championship in ‘90 that Colorado won. UGA has 8. Nuff said.

Who really cares what the hell Tech does from here on out? I don’t. 30-24 says all we need to know about that lot.

I still say we don’t deserve a Chicken Bowl bid but I guess I’d take it. Those big arse beers over at the Omni sure are good.

I’ll remind them becasue it’s fun to break their hearts all over again, not becasue it’s something to be so proud of. LOLOL

Hey Vol, UT kicked UGA’s butt this year. It’s true. But do you really want a head-to-head comparison to determine who plays in which bowl games? UT beat UGA. UGA beat Auburn. Auburn beat UT. See how that works? Even you can figure out that this logic is circular.

I would rather go to BOWL HELL than to See Tech win this Saturday vs Clemson. If the Chick-fli-a wants the Vols more power to them we had our shots and let things get away from us. We need to look at the bowl pratice as getting ready for 2010. I know that the two freshmen QBs cant play in the game but the extra pratice should be looked at as the start of the battle for the starting job in 2010. Logan should be given at least a half of playing time at Qb in the game to see if he is an option our if a position change is best for him in 2010 the kid has to much talent not to be on the field somewhere. Coach put the team to work and make the best of where ever the team ends up and get them ready to play in a BCS bowl in 2010. Good luck with the pending staff choices and please make wise choices and dont just go with the company line of promoting from within other than Coach Garner i dont think there is a coordinator among the bunch. Also i would not want anything to take away from the great job that Coach Garner does as a recruiting coordinator maybe it would be in everybodies best intrest to bring a fresh face aka Kirby Smart please come home for Christmas you school needs you.
