(University of Georgia)
A lot of bowl projections currently have the Dogs winding up in Atlanta’s Chick-fil-A Bowl, which certainly would please the fans since it’s the best Georgia can do bowl-wise. And it no doubt would guarantee another quick sellout for the bowl formerly known as Peach.
But there’s still a good chance the Dogs could wind up in Nashville. Or Shreveport. Or even Birmingham (which is where CBSSports.com sees Georgia playing).
A factor in determining where the Dogs end up playing will be how well the bowl officials think the Dog fan base will travel.
Mark Richt made reference to that on his TV show Sunday, pleading with the season ticket holders who can buy tickets in advance up until 5 p.m. Friday to go ahead and do so. The more tickets sold in advance, when fans still don’t know what bowl their team will get, the more impressed bowl officials are.
This is especially a concern when the team in question has underperformed, like the Dogs have this year. With half a dozen 7-5 teams in the SEC, the question in their minds is which fan base will follow their team despite not being that excited over the season.
Are you willing to follow the Dogs to Nashville or one of the other non-Atlanta bowls? Have you already put in for tickets? Or does a third- or fourth-tier bowl not interest you?
I’ll be off Tuesday, but the Blawg will return on Wednesday.

To the Tech clod who claimed to be the best team in the state and would beat Georgia 7 of the next 10, quit sniffing glue. Georgia exposed that paper mache defense of yours and actually played assignment football against that throwback, Division 1A offense you run. Be happy that Gailey recruited Mrs. Nesbitt to the Trade School (as a passing QB) or you’d have little Jaybird Shaw getting a beat down and throwing picks all over the field. We proved that anyone with the right personnel can shut down that gimmick offense so Va. Tech, Miami, and Clemson will soon have your number. Johnson will do what any other coach worth his salt does and leave the Ghetto Campus within 5 years.

Birmingham is only 2 hours from Atlanta. Nashville is 3.5 hours. Either trip could be done in a day.
Shreveport is another story.

I won’t even travel to Atlanta to see this team play unless Richt makes changes in his coaching staff. This team (especially the defense) has under performed the last few years and for the HC to do nothing about it is unacceptable.

UGA fans always have fan support at the Bowl games. Unlike the other school . . . they can’t even get anyone in their own stadium. Wonder how many will be in Tampa this weekend.

Unfortunately I’m with Chipped Tires. Love the Dawgs but I’m not traveling until I hear something about the future of the program. I guess I’m just a stubborn ole dawg. Just let us know what the direction is. If Richt stands pat he has my support for a year but dramatic improvement is a must for me if he keeps this staff together.
If he makes a decision/announcement before the bowls you could count me in for Nashville, wonderful city with lots of things to do, or Atlanta, just got back from there and have family in both towns. I would be ashamed to be seen in Shreveport or Birmingham.
How about the GMAC Bowl right here in Mobile?

Here’s the most interesting thing about where Georgia is going bowling:
The ACC Title Game outcome will determine our bowl bid.
If Tech wins and Clemson loses, then Tech goes to the Orange Bowl, VaTech goes to the Gator, and Clemson goes to the Peach-Fil-A Bowl.
If Clemson comes to Atlanta, they WILL invite the Dawgs. Clemson vs. Georgia. Traditional, old-school rivalry game?
It’ll do really well on TV, and with all the Clemson people coming into town for the Bowl.
Now, if Clemson upsets Tech, THIS is how it’ll play out: Clemson to the Orange, TECH to the Gator, then VaTech to Atlanta.
If VaTech is coming to Atlanta, you better believe they WILL NOT pick Georgia to come. They just had that SAME match-up three years ago.
Kentucky will be taken for the Peach-Fil-A, if that’s the case, and then Georgia will go to the Music City Bowl in Nashville.
So, Atlanta or Nashville depends on whether or not Tech can win the ACC this year.

As a season ticket holder with 4 in the club section in Sanford I have been asked to put in my order. If UGA goes to Atl. I will go. I will not order my tickets through our athletic office. In 2007 when we went to Atl. and played Va. Tech I ordered tickets through the athletic office. I ordered Mezzenine (sp) seats and received mezzenine in the end zone. I have a high priority at UGA (upper 5%) I learned my lesson concerning ordering tickets through UGA. It is not their fault, the Bowls always send lousy seats to the participating schools. I will obtain better seats buying them online.
In answer to another question, I will not go to Nashville for a bowl game. I will only go to Atl. this year, a 7-5 record does not motivate me to travel this year beyond Atl. I will be back in my season seats next fall hoping to see some coaching changes and a new direction for our program, (especially on defense and special teams).

The great thing about these lower-tier bowls is that it makes it more affordable for us po’ folks to go, and to better cities, too. Who wants to go to Miami and see Madonna, or Pasadena and see Cloris Leachman, when you could go to Nashville and see Reba?

You’d think the Chick fil a wouldn’t want a rematch from a couple years ago. Also, Va Tech started the season there. Maybe Clemson if they lose to Tech. UGA/Clemson or UGA/Miami would be great. Not sure missing out on the Outback this year was too big of a loss. Looks like it’s Northwestern!
BCS bowl slate is starting to look like opening weekend of the season! Possibly – TCU vs. Alabama! Cincinatti vs. Ga. Tech! Iowa vs. Boise St.!!!!! Pretty, pretty bad…

Real Dawgs will–unlike their Tech counterparts–travel and support their team. Fans can’t have it both ways. We have bashed the Tech fans who dug their gear out of the moth balls and jumped on the bandwagon all year. This year we have run into a bit of adversity and a lot of people are disappointed with the program–primarily people who have never played at any level higher than JV football or coached at any level higher than Rec Ball. I realize that some people just can’t afford to make a long trip–like Shreveport–for a basically meaningless game….and when you fall as far down on the pecking order as we did this year, you have to play on work nights….but if Georgia plays in Atlanta, Dawg fans need to pack the place or shut about Tech’s non-support of their team forever. Ditto Birmingham. It’s a day trip, for goodness sakes. Visit Bear Bryant’s grave and and teach your kids some SEC history. Nashville is a 4 hour drive and has tons of decent hotels in the $75 range. The team came through and beat the Number 7 in the nation in their own house. Now real Georgia fans need to put up or shut up. And as for me and my family, we will be wherever the Dawgs are–period.

“Dawg” fans will travel to where ever their game is. That’s one of the many strong points to their program. Congrats on the big win Saturday night. Humility has official won over this Tech fan.

Even though a local game in Atlanta is appealing and, on the surface, logical for Dawg fans… you make a good point.
Georgia fans are way more consistent than Kentucky or South Carolina fans. While it makes sense to send us to the Georgia Dome, it also makes just as much sense to send us somewhere else because they can depend on us to buy the tickets and travel.
I for one love traveling, but the difference in playing in some cold, small stadium is so unappealing in contrast to being in the noisy, and warm confines of the Georgia Dome.
Plus, for the smaller schools like Kentucky and SC and Tenn, Atlanta becomes a very appealing site that will attract foreign fans.
Scary. It seems that UGA is doomed for the Boonie Bowl

i’ve seen the outback bowl take teams over beorgia on several occasions when they were the only no.2 ranked team and the same with the capital one bowl as well.i still think georgia would kick butt in tampa and sell out and tenn would go to the peach and sell out the hotel rooms there and everybody wins.georgia is the most exciting 7-5 in the conference with a great amount of fans.outback bowl but anything less than the peach is a slap in the face.

What really needs to happen is ALL fans DO NOT buy any kind of bowl tickets. Boycott the whole thing, all the bowls. Then hopefully after a couple of New Years Days of empty stadiums around the nation we’ll get a playoff system implemented like we need instead of the crap system we have now. Play it on the field instaed of in the “Beauty Pageant” polls. We all saw that for ourselves this past weekend with all the upsets.
