If you compare Georgia to Flo/Alabama this year stat-wise:

Bobo needs to get 400 yards a game to compete with Flo/Alabama.

We need balance: 210 on passing, 205 on rushing.

We need 40 rushing plays to average 5 ypc.

We need 25 passing plays to get 8 yards per pass attempt, 12 yards per completion.

I’d like to see Willie set some new goals for 2010 in alignment with what Florida and Alabama is doing.

Defense Passing Yards Given Up Per Game:
Fla/Ala: 150
Georgia: 212 (ranked #43 in NCAA)

Defense Rushing Yards given Up Per Game:
Fla/Ala: 85
Georgia: 140 (ranked #50 in NCAA)

It’s tough, because Georgia doesn’t play teams like Florida Intenrational, Troy, and Charleston Southern in one season like Florida does. Those cream puff games really help the stats. That’s no excuse.

If Georgia’s going to compete with Flo/Alabama, new goals have to be set for Willie to get Georgia to a Natl’ Champ.

Willie is a defensive genius who has outschemed the best OC’s in the country. He just needs to put together a SEASON where he CONSISTENTLY COACHES to his capabilities, not just a few games like Hawaii & Florida 2007, Auburn & Tech 2009.

I looked at over 100 stats comparing Georgia to Florida and Alabama. Some things did not matter, like penalties, where Florida is poor too.

I saw gaps. Here’s what I saw, the 2 biggest winning factors were:
1) Offensive giveaways 1.5. or less per game
2) Defensive opponent yards per game 250 total yards or less

Offense:
1) 40+ rushing attempts per game
2) Time of Possession 52% or more
3) Rushing yards per game 200+
4) 1.5 or less Giveaways per game

Defense:
1) 250 yards of less total defense per game
2) 48% or less opponent time of possession
3) Takeaways 2 or more per game

If A qb TURNS IT OVER in 3 or 4 straight games, he sits for most coaches. No way he’s rewarded with more playing time.

If a RB is involved in too many to’s in consecutive games (fumbles, int’s when thrown to, etc.), he sits for most coaches.

Bobo can’t keep rewarding players for turning the ball over with MORE PLAYING TIME.

It’s similar to his policy of REWARDING POOR RB YARD PER CARRY or OL who commit too many penalties with more PLAYING TIME OR CARRIES? It’s insane.

Bobo rewards POOR QB, RB, WR, OR OL performance with MORE PLAYING TIME and GOOD performance with LESS PLAYING TIME.

No wonder Georgia has so many offensive giveaways.

Look at Air Force and Navy. Best at lack of penalties. It comes from discipline–self control—mindset.

Takeaways:
Oh St, Ohio, Boise St., Texas, and Middle Tenn

Giveaways:
Cinn, Or. St., Navy, Air Force, Alabama, Boise St.

To solve the turnover problem you can:
1) Offensively:
Running side: Play call mix-run the ball 65% of the plays, spin away from hit, stiff arm tackler, practice switching ball to correct hand, clean qb/rb transitions on hand-offs/pitches, study situations where guys fumbled–rep those situations, study how good o’s protect the ball-what’s different?
passing side: call low risk pass plays, roll out QB, pump fakes to get man clear, gimmick plays, clean pick plays, basically–when you throw the ball-make sure no one else is around to pick it, low to the ground throws, sideline throws, study situations where int’s happened–rep those situations, study horw good d’s takeaway the ball-what’s different?

Defensively:
practice drills that teach different ways to force takeaways, hand over/wrap around for DB’s, helmet on football tackles for LB’s, tip passes for DL’s, strip and rip for DE’s, blindside blitzes that jar it loose, zone blitzes, deception cover schemes/late shifting. Study what causes TO’s/takeaways–put more of that into game plan

This is THE question Richt needs to answer to take Georgia to the next level. Get past Florida, and you win the SEC, and on to the Natl Champ.

What’s the answer?
It’s not defense.

The answer?
Turnovers.

In the last 4 years, Georgia has won the games where they had 0 turnovers, and lost all 3 games where they had 3 or more turnovers. In 3 out of 4, the offense GAVAWAY the ball to Florida 3 or 4 times in one game.

Georgia falls on its own sword. That’s how you beat Georgia.

Force turnovers because they’re too NAIIVE to think peiople are GAMEPLANNING FOR TURNOVERS.

Bobo said recently he was mystifed at the turnover problem. Naiive. People are FORCING turnovers against his offense as the key component to their Strategy.

Teams will keep beating Georgia with the FORCE TURNOVER strategy until Georgia fixes the problem.

Florida is the key to going to the next level. Analyze why we’ve been losign to Florida when you make future staffing decisions. It’s the #1 question Richt needs to answer.
