Caleb King's 75-yard touchdown run was a thing of beauty. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

So, how’s that ACC championship game looking now, huh?

Finally made it home from Historic Grant Field (MARTA may be smarta but it sure isn’t faster) with the chants of the UGA student section we sat near still ringing in my head.

Early on, Tech’s hip-hop heavy video board had video of some of the Jackets leading the gold-and-white crowd in the popular number “All the Way Turnt Up” but it wasn’t long before the Georgia students appropriated that as the theme song of the evening for the Dogs.

Man, it felt good to see Georgia rediscover the joys of running the ball straight at the opponent. Washaun Ealey, with his 183 yards, and Caleb King with 166 made it look easy at times, particularly on King’s 75-yard run. And Joe Cox discovered, as Buck Belue knew all those years ago, how good you can look at QB when all you have to do is hand off to your backs.

Actually, that’s selling Cox short. He made a couple of key throws tonight and did a great job of managing the game for the most part. It shouldn’t have been as close as it was, with the Dogs having to settle for field goal tries too often in the second half, but that’s a minor point in the afterglow of a terrific win by the unranked Bulldogs over the nation’s No. 7 team.

Those takeaways by the Georgia defense were pretty sweet, too.

And the middle of the Georgia defensive line finally lived up to its billing, making Tech’s Jonathan Dwyer not much of a factor in the game. You had to wonder why the Jackets kept trying to run up the middle, when obviously they had more success on the perimeter. And their decision to go to the air exclusively on that last series of downs? Curious, but it worked out well for the Dogs.

I’ll take a closer look at the game Sunday, but for now let me just say that I haven’t decided yet which game is coming off the list of my 10 favorite UGA wins over Tech … but I definitely know which game is being added to the list!

It’s a great night to be a Georgia Bulldog!

And as the student section chanted while the seconds ticked off the clock at the end, SEC! SEC! SEC!

I want to give a shout out and some props to Quinton Banks for his great play in limited opputunities last night. Banks has battled knee injuries throughout his UGA career and was forced into action when Evans fell to injury ( I know there are people out there who were applauding that injury). Banks mad 2 tackles that I saw. The most important being an assist on the goal line preventing Nesbit from scoring on the 1 yd line. That was key because it forced Tech to burn another minute off the clock hurting their chances even more of a comeback. Congrats Banks, you are a Damn good DAWG.

BuLLdawg -

I am with you. This win is one to be savored and rubbed in the faces of our nerd co-workers. But I am terrified that because of this win, even if Richt gets rid of Willie, he still won’t do enough. All the blind homers think the we are angry about the win. We’re not. But we’re nervous that Richt will not do everything that needs be done, as he has shown that propensity in the past.

Bulldawg you need to look on the brighter side of the game last, instead of picking out every little thing we did wrong. Did we play a perfect game last night, the answer is no we didn’t. the false starts hurt, we dropped some passes, there was poor tackling (again), and we couldnt capitalize on scoring touchdowns late in the game when we got into the redzone. However, last night we got back to good ole Georgia football. We nutted up and kicked the nerds right in the teeth all night long and physically dominated the line on both sides of the ball, and gave the techies a taste of their own medicine. Bobo called the best game of his career and martinez did a solid job of stopping tech’s high school offense. overall it was a great game last night and i loved every minute of it. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog! THWGT

I only saw one bad play call all night. Remember, we did not punt once and only had one TO. The bad call was on the missed FG drive. On third down, Bobo should have ran the ball. He should have Power I and physically over whelm a tired Tech defensive front. At least keep it at a no gain and in the middle of the field giving Walsh a 50 yd att instead of a 54-55 att. Other than that, I enjoyed the game calling. If you want to get technical, on the drives resulting in FGs, UGA should have stuck with the power game rather than trying to out run Tech to the outside. All in all the best called game for Bobo this season.

Just not having to read last years score twenty times per day makes up for the Kentucky game for me. Yeah we tanked that game in the second half, but that sure got the team focused on winning last night. I was glad to see Waushan and Caleb break loose. They are a real one-two threat.

CMR show comes on in less than an hour.

JB, I agree. We made some mistakes last night, but what was different is that they were not made over and over again. Every team makes the same mistakes in a game, they just don’t make them as much as we have been making. There wer 5 penalties all night. KO out of bounds, 2 false starts, one off sides, I forget the last one. We had only one, yes ONE TO. Actually a good play made by Tech’s best defensive player. Yes there were msome missed tackles, the worst being Dobbs, but hese things were not over and over again like we have become used to this year.

Tech was OVERRATED!!!

November 29th, 2009
11:14 am

Talk about overrated! Georgia Tech was WAY OVERRATED! Their 10-2 record would probably be 4-8 or 5-7 if they played the Dawgs schedule. So take this yellow jackettes, WE DO NOT RESPECT YOU OR THE ACC! Woof! Woof! Dawgs are college football champs of the state of Georgia!

UGA whipped Tech! UGA whipped South Carolina who whipped Clemson! The University of Georgia Bulldogs are the REAL champions of the ACC!

Nice post JB, great point, just another opionion, are’nt we all glad it does’nt cost us anything on here to post execpt for our so called intelligence, or lack there of? We could have lost everygame this year, but winning this one on their home field after Paul Johnson said in one of his pre game interviews, something fo the tune about as far as beating Georgia,”been there done that!”, has made me proud to once again don the red and black. Go Dawgs!

The Georgia Bulldogs whipped TECH because the Dawgs are a physically superior team. The Dawgs punished Tech at the line of scrimmage and ripped huge holes in Tech’s defensive line. And even incompetent Willie Martinez’ defense was better than Tech and slowed down the Jackettes overrated offense enough to whip them! Tech sure is not a Top 10 team, not even good enough to finish in the top 6 in the SEC.

Feeling a little better about this season! Beating GA TECH was very nice, but some issues. The guy on Georgia’s team with the worst ball security is Branden Smith! Stop handing the ball off to this guy. I do like they experimented with the pistol formation, but don’t do it with him. Also can our conerbacks not tackle anybody? We seem to be intimadated by size! Just grab on to the guy, until you get help. I am glad we finally settled on a O-line and stuck with it. Let’s keep this line for next year, even Trinton and Tanner come back!

So Bill...

Congrats on the win last night. The CMR developed a great game plan and dawgs executed it perfectly (O-line was awsome). Pretty much dominated and ran the ball right down our throats. That being said, I will mourn for a few more days, keep wearing my GT cap as usual and get ready for Clemson and hope to finish the season off well. So when you see Solid Gold Dancer, let me have……..I definitely gave it you guys for the past year. Good luck in your bowl game.

SEC Championship game (aka National Championship game):
#1 Florida versus #2 Alabama
Includes two Heisman candidates

ACC (Almost Competitive Conference) Championship game:
non-top-10 GT who got beat by SEC middle of the road UGA versus
non-top-10 Clemmons who got beat by SEC middle of the road SC

And it’s a rematch for crying out loud. I’m sure the ratings will be huge. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
