Caleb King's 75-yard touchdown run was a thing of beauty. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)
So, how’s that ACC championship game looking now, huh?
Finally made it home from Historic Grant Field (MARTA may be smarta but it sure isn’t faster) with the chants of the UGA student section we sat near still ringing in my head.
Early on, Tech’s hip-hop heavy video board had video of some of the Jackets leading the gold-and-white crowd in the popular number “All the Way Turnt Up” but it wasn’t long before the Georgia students appropriated that as the theme song of the evening for the Dogs.
Man, it felt good to see Georgia rediscover the joys of running the ball straight at the opponent. Washaun Ealey, with his 183 yards, and Caleb King with 166 made it look easy at times, particularly on King’s 75-yard run. And Joe Cox discovered, as Buck Belue knew all those years ago, how good you can look at QB when all you have to do is hand off to your backs.
Actually, that’s selling Cox short. He made a couple of key throws tonight and did a great job of managing the game for the most part. It shouldn’t have been as close as it was, with the Dogs having to settle for field goal tries too often in the second half, but that’s a minor point in the afterglow of a terrific win by the unranked Bulldogs over the nation’s No. 7 team.
Those takeaways by the Georgia defense were pretty sweet, too.
And the middle of the Georgia defensive line finally lived up to its billing, making Tech’s Jonathan Dwyer not much of a factor in the game. You had to wonder why the Jackets kept trying to run up the middle, when obviously they had more success on the perimeter. And their decision to go to the air exclusively on that last series of downs? Curious, but it worked out well for the Dogs.
I’ll take a closer look at the game Sunday, but for now let me just say that I haven’t decided yet which game is coming off the list of my 10 favorite UGA wins over Tech … but I definitely know which game is being added to the list!
It’s a great night to be a Georgia Bulldog!
And as the student section chanted while the seconds ticked off the clock at the end, SEC! SEC! SEC!

I have full confidence in Coach Richt and his assistants. We have had a great season, and we will reward our coaching staff appropriately. We will cap our winning season with another great victory in the Papa John’s Bowl.

outkasted, give some excuses why UT and UF scored more points against Martinez’s defense than they did against cupcakes. Oh and why teams score 30 and 40 points against us at will. Theis is a great, great win for UGA and I couldn’t be prouder. Don’t let the thrill of a great victory blind you of what has happened to defense and special teams the last two teams. It ain’t just players making mistakes. It’s Xs and Os, or lack of ….

Our receivers were open all night. They just dropped the ball.
Tech is horrid. They cannot play defense since they lost Tenuta, as I told them when they let Paul Johnson get rid of him when he had been so great with the nerds’ defense.
To the 3 of you making excuses that UGA is great now. Excuse me. Tech sucks. Georgia Tech’s Strength of Schedule ACCORDING TO THE NCAA, is Number 49 in the nation this morning. Tech is not that good. They played a soft schedule and no top-ranked team. There is NOT a top-ranked team in the ACC. There is not even a top 10 team in the ACC, yet again this year. And, Tech lost to Miami of Florida and to UGA.
I have zero respect for the Tech fans who said all these things before the game, to not come back in here and face their medicine.
As for the UGA fans who think that the entire Bulldog Nation, who all of us want complete change in Coach Richt’s Coaching Staff, are now wrong that we are 18-20 against Final AP Poll Top 25 teams in the 9 years with 6 more losses against teams who were not in the Final AP Poll Top 25, figure it out. Tech is over-rated beating no one and losing to 2 teams who neither otherwise beat a single Final AP Poll Top 25 team. We still have to change the staff. Sorry about that you 3 only UGA fans.

Bill your a jerk. The Dog fan nowdays are different from the Dooly era. Now they are so much more arrogant. Nesbitt and O-Line and Deffense SUCKED, also the great Paul Johnson let us down last night. Good job Dog team. Tech, next week doesn’t matter anymore now. That looked liked Ol’ time Georgia football. I have missed it for 20 years. Very disappointed in Tech.

Very nice job bulldogs! Players and coaches. Now who is going to fix the hole in my ceiling. Got to go to the doc today to check out the bump on my head. Thanks, Caleb nice run. Washaun, you are going to be the cause of a lot of excitement for the bulldawg nation until you go pro. Offensive line, bigger and stronger made enough of a hole, and Chappas had a great game, except for the bungled kick return.

Was anybody but me wondering why PJ quit running the ball when they got to midfield on that last drive. I think they could have scored by just running that option wide like they did all night. But, if Bobo would have taken a couple of shots at the endzone w/play-action on our last two drives, the game woulda been over and done long before that last Tech possesssion….

Wow where has that running game been all year!! We finally blocked!!! Well we were playing a team from the very soft ACC!!! Not a real big surprise we won this game. We have been pretty good against the run all year!!! The teams that can throw the ball is the ones that always give us a fit!!!The teams that beat us can throw the ball in the soft zone!! For you fans that don’t know football that is behind the linebackers and in front of the corners!!! Teams that did that on us beat us there all year like a drum!!! I hope the crying Willie did was because he will quit today!! Our Secondary sucked the last 2 years!! But the bottom line is this, it was a good win BUT we still have to get alot better to beat Tennessee and Florida and win a Championship!!! Had the guy not dropped the pass we would be sitting here on the losing end!! He was open!! Nothing unusual!!

Fair and Balanced,
You did NOT say any thing that I did not also exactly say, sir.
You are like Buck Belue. Buck says too, just like you, that we have to have changes on the coaching staff of 0 experience in the NFL for any of his entire staff of college roommates and buddies of Coach Richt, all out of position for what they are coaching.
Look.
1 turnover is on the player.
1 penalty is on the player.
1 Arrest/Suspension is on the player.
When the whole entire roster fumbles and throw interceptions without gaining them either, and when they all are penalized and do dumb stuff on the field and off, that is clearly on the coaching staff. Tom Brady is talking about The NFL, where the players clearly every one already know what they are supposed to be doing and whose coaching staffs are severely criticized for fiascos off the field like the Cincinnati coaching staff with all their Arrests/Suspensions in previous years.
outkasted, don’t give me this B.S. that you want to keep this coaching staff intact. Your excuses don’t hold water.

On Tech’s last TD drive, I knew they were going to score. That’s what good teams do, they respond. I was wanting UGA to make them work for it. Not just one 70 yd. play. UGA did just that. They made Tech run at 12 plays and about 6-7 minutes off the clock. When I saw how much time it took for Tech to score that last TD, I knew the game was over; at least until we missed the 54 yd. FG. That was the first time all game that I got nervous.

Like UGA. We don’t have a 2nd best win this year either.
Like Miami of Florida. So, if you want to get ranked, play a soft schedule out of conference and play in a weak conference. Let’s join the ACC. We can play with them with this Coaching Staff.
Neither UGA nor Miami of Florida beat a single team in the BCS Top 40 teams, except both Beat Georgia Tech.

Listen up everyone. After last night’s beating, I’ve decided to rethink my fan loyalty. I’ve taken a closer look at GT and I realize that Paul Johnson is running the same offense as my old high school. I realize that the eventual ACC champ got destroyed by a down SEC foe and will probably get destroyed in the Orange Bowl. I realize that GT women shouldn’t even be counted as women (I know technically they have all of the right “parts”, but have you seen them?). For all these reasons and so many more, I’ve decided to switch my loyalty to THE University of Georgia, the flagship institution in our great state. Please forgive me for pulling for GT all of these years, I had obviously been drinking.

Best Tech team in 20 years loses to worst UGA team in 13 years
ACC’s two best teams drilled by 7 and 5 SEC teams… The ACC should give up football

I believe that the majority of bloggers have “big-little-man” complex. They don’t appreciate good games. They just want their team to beat teams that threaten their ego so they can feel good until the next game. My team got beat yesterday by a team they should have beaten. I give that team credit and offer no excuses for my team’s loss. I am not ready to fire my coach and castrate the players. I’m just looking forward to the next game and hoping that my team plays a great game. Neither am I going to spend the majority of the next several months prowling the recruiting news. I am looking forward to reading “The Brothers Karamazov” over the next week, then I will watch some of the bowl games, which I hope are all tightly contested.

Did St Simon’s disguise himself as Bulldawg? Because that first post was almost painful to read. I mean come on! In bowl practice, there will be plenty of time for looking at the Tech game film and addressing the weaknesses of the game. In the off season there will be plenty of time for making any coaching adjustments deemed necessary. But can they get at least 24 hours to celebrate before you start tearing the game to shreds!
When its all said and done, we’re looking at going 8-5 after losing more than 70% of our offense, and a defense that is prone to looking completely inept quite often. This was supposed to be a terrible year. We expected this. We knew it was coming. No one is shocked or surprised that we lost five games. (Looking back the LSU and UK games should’ve ended way different, but that’s another story)
Considering what was supposed to happen this year, we are on track to be a much better team next year, with or without coaching changes.
Regardless, it’s great to be a Georgia Bulldawg! THWGT!!!

I’ve been a fan for 30 plus years of Georgia, and I am proud of the players who played the tails off. I’m glad the guy dropped the ball at the end of the game and we won, but, once again I’m suspect with a call from CMR. He almost blew it again, putting his players in a worse situation than they needed to be. Most times he plays the percentages. But going for the 50 plus yard field goal with that much time on the clock was stupid. It worked out this time, most of you all know what I’m talking about. I don’t mean to sound so negative after a great win but I’m just looking at the big picture for next year. Go Dawgs and let’s keep up the same intensity in whatever bowl game we go to! GO DAWGS!

I’m all for seeing Martinez go but to say that we need a complete change of the entire staff is looney. Should OU and So Cal do the same?
C’mon now. Realism folks. Some times kaka occurs.

Why do Dawg constantly harp on and on about any quality opponent we happen to beat being “overated”? To scream that over and over diminishes our victory, right? I mean, if “Tech is overrated”, or “Tech sucks”, then we really accomplished nothing last night, right? Jeez, grow a brain, you guys. Ga Tech is a good team, deserving of their ranking going into the game last night that just overwhelmed by an in-state rival playing their best game since 2007, and still almost pulled the game out. If that receiver hadn’t dropped that 1st down catch, does anybody think we could have kept them out of the endzone?

I don’t think we need to change our coordinators – either one of ‘em – but I sure would like to see somebody that could get our secondary to learn how to cover without interfering and tackle in the open field. Come on guys, you ain’t gonna do any good trying to go high on somebody that’s bigger, stronger and faster than you…knock his pins out from under him. Just as the rest of the world found out about Herschel after his freshman year, it’s the best, and maybe only, way to get him, or them, down.
Admittedly, going in I had no confidence in the outcome. Hopeful, but not confident. I was confident that the kids would play their butts off and the coaches would coach the same way…and they did. For that I am as proud as can be. Don’t know what it says about this game, our team, or Tech, but we made some of the same mistakes we’ve been making all season that have cost us games – but not this time. Either we wouldn’t be beat or Tech wasn’t good enough to take advantage of us. Either way, I’m a happy man!

Anybody still arguing how good and how much potential #9 Jones has. He played a heck of a game. UGA’s defense as a whole was outstanding. In all three fazes. Weston and Owens, and Houston on the DL. Rennie and Dent at LB, and Jones in the secondary. Jones took over that last drive by Tech. Jones was agrressive at getting to the line to help in the run defense, while also being deep to play pass defense. Jones was actually covering WRs in man. Had 7 tkls, 1 int (almost 2). Only mad one bad play. While covering Thomas, he went for the int.; should have played the WR. But all well, one mistake amid all the great plays

We had the same mistakes as we had all blaf, blah, blah…. Every team has those same mistakes in evey game unless you are UF and the REFs refuse to call a penalty on you. Point being, the difference last night and the rest of the season is it was one PF not 4 or 5. It was one false start, not one every drive. Also only 2 dropped passes early in the game and not one after. Yes there were some missed tackles, but the same can be said for Tech. The worst one was Dobbs on the reverse. Yes Cuff whiffed on Thomas’s 75 TD run, but the kid is learning. Later in the game, Cuff did go low, but with Thomas being as big as he is, got the same result. Only this time we had the seafety over the top to limit the damage. UGA made some mistakes, but they also limited them. They did what they did to win the game. That’s all that really matters.

Great game! Still need a special teams solution. Play call was pathetic before Walsh’s miss. A couple of drops (should have won by an additional score, maybe two). Things still get a little up tight at crucial moments like down on the five or the previously mentioned call. There were a couple of missed tackles that hurt the effort.
Chappas deserves a medal. The O-line played tough. Washaun and Caleb, wow! Rashad Jones rocked it. Owens and Weston made mince meat out of the middle. Gotta like Houston. Of course Curran is always outstanding. Good game plan on O and D. Willie done good. Glad to see Richt upset about the Gatorade because it aint over until there are all zeroes. Best thing is they played like a team on both sides of the ball.
Keep it in perspective, dawgs, and take out whoever is in whatever bowl game.
