Sound off on Dogs and Jackets

Since tonight’s game doesn’t kick off until 8:12, it will be quite late when I get back from Grant Field and my initial post-game Blawg goes up.

So until then feel free to comment here on the game, whatever the outcome.

Go Dogs!

This was not a big win, UGA just did what they are supposed to. Georgia restores natural order.

Yeah, that last series was a head scratcher. Will be interesting to hear what Johnson’s thinking was in that situation. Maybe on 1st down I’d have thrown it but after that, I’d have run it. Then again, I’m in my living room and he’s leaving the locker room so who am I to question him. Would have been damn fun if Thomas had caught the 4th and 10 pass though, huh?

Today the ACC should be officially moved to Division IAA or what ever it is called now. Georgia just made the GT defense look like a bunch of wimps. GA could not run the ball all season long. The SEC is a real league. The ACC got humiliated today. FSU should revolt if Bobby B. returns. He is just out of his mind if he comes back next year (or should I say if the program lets him return next year). Good luck next week Tech. Better work on that D-Line. Spiller will run for 500 on you.

Question for both Tech and UGA fans: which would you choose: (A) beat the in-state rival (UGA and Tech, respectively) and lose your conference championship game or (B) lose to the in-state rival but WIN the Conference Championship game?

it’s not that simple. GT had the game in the bag AKA AL vs AU. This was a huge blunder on CPJ. GO DAWGs

ESPN should be ashamed for hiring disabled seniors like Lou Holtz. It’s not right to put invalids on display.

Just when tech was getting recognized, they go right back to obscurity. Still, noone outside of Georgia gives a damn about them.

Big L, thanks for the compliment but, truth be told, no one outside the state gives a damn about either one of us. Over the past 20 years we’ve probably averaged 6.5 wins (it’s too late to look it up) and you’ve only averaged 8 I’d guess. Neither of us is on the national scene; us since the 50s, you since the early 80s.

Baffling since we have some of the best high school football in the nation.

Good point, BigL. I know we can’t win the recruiting war with UGA in the state (we get a few but more out of state, up the eastern seaboard) but I thought Richt had pretty shut off the flow to Auburn/Alabama, UF/FSU, SC/Clemson.

YellowJacket86, that is easy; win the conference championship. It would be demoralizing to win the SEC, and lose to Tech though. The ACC looks took it on the chin today; it definitely takes the shine off of GT’s season, even if they manage to come back against Clemson (another defensive performance like that would be tough to watch; they better get that “between the tackles” stuff figured out). Win the Orange bowl, however, and Tech will be back to flying high; I just don’t think either Clemson or GT can hang with TCU (or Boise State, or Cincinnati…whomever they’d play against).

Hmmm…Interesting statistic on ESPN. Bobby Bowdin and FSU started losing more non=conference games after the school joined the ACC..OFCOURSE THEY DID…SO DID MIAMI! YOU IDIOTS! ACC TEAMS CANNOT COMPARE IN FOOTBALL. YOU PLAY TO YOUR OPPONENTS. IF YOUR OPPONENTS SUCK, THEN YOU START TO SUCK TOO.

Where are those cute little catch phrases?

Care to talk some football? I didn’t think so.

30 – 24 glad it hurts so bad.

There’s a new sheriff in town, and he just got his butt whipped by Mark Richt and UGA!

YellowJacket86,

You said, “Neither of us is on the national scene; us since the 50s, you since the early 80s.”. Now I know you’re feeling down with the loss but don’t be that negative. Tech made a splash onto the scene again briefly in 1990 and Georgia was Pre-season #1 just last year, not to mention some other times in the spotlight over the last 30 years. But, I agree that we are clearly down this year and tonight takes Tech down a good bit.

just wondering,

You asked, “I’m just wondering where that fire and intesity has been all season. Even the play calling.”

Good question on the fire and intensity. We definitely had that from the very beginning (and before) of the game. Now, as far as the play calling, anyone calling the plays tonight would have looked like a genius with us running against Tech’s defense. They were clearly outmanned and our running backs just ran wild on them. Other than the original decision to run it down their throats, there was not much to credit in the play calling. (not criticising, just not saying it was anything special).

Big L,

Sorry to disagree with you, but I’ve always liked Lou Holtz. He obviously was a great coach and I’ve always appreciated his sense of humor. I certainly wouldn’t make fun of him because of his lisp.

Tech fans,

What was Paul Johnson thinking, by calling 4 straight pass plays at the end of the game? If one of the bombs had worked and Tech had scored, he would have left too much time on the clock for us to come back. I think he panicked. Bailing out on the option showed something significant about his coaching and his belief in his system. I would compare it to a fastball pitcher going with his third best pitch with the game on the line. If it works, it’s genius but most of the time it doesn’t and just looks dumb.

Great game! Still need a special teams solution. Play call was pathetic before Walsh’s miss. A couple of drops (should have won by an additional score, maybe two). Things still get a little up tight at crucial moments like down on the five or the previously mentioned call. There were a couple of missed tackles that hurt the effort.

Chappas deserves a medal. The O-line played tough. Washaun and Caleb, wow! Rashad Jones rocked it. Owens and Weston made mince meat out of the middle. Gotta like Houston. Of course Curran is always outstanding. Good game plan on O and D. Willie done good. Glad to see Richt upset about the Gatorade because it aint over until there are all zeroes. Best thing is they played like a team on both sides of the ball.

Keep it in perspective, dawgs, and take out whoever is in whatever bowl game.

Oh yeah, St. Simons, you can kiss Ross’s bulldawg butt.

I am not rubbing it in to the techmites. I was expecting them to take it to our dawgs. BUT, I am so glad we decided to run the ball and put the passing, and interceptions, on the shelf. With all the fun and merriment going on, I am still calling for some coaching changes. One victory is great, but look back at Kentucky, Tenn, Fla, OSU, and LSU!!!!! Bad memories for sure, bring on the CHANGES!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love it when UGa goes up against an ACC team for recruits, asking “why would the recruit want to go to a basketball school (especially in the case of UNC). Well I noticed that when UNC played NCState, Fl Tech, VaTech, Duke, East Caroina, and others in football, the bleachers were packed. Then I noticed tonight that the arean\ was packed when Clemson was playing Illinois in basketball. Could it be that UGa simply has a complex when it comes to basketball? I could understand if they do. I just read where Rivals rated their next year’s basketball recruiting as next to last in the SEC. UGa is a football school only, and there is no argument about that.
