Lack of improvement a hallmark of 2009 Dogs

Some thoughts and questions arising from the Dogs’ meltdown against Kentucky. …

The same problems plagued Georgia all season long, and while the players must take the blame for the turnovers and penalties, the fact that the Dogs never really could get a handle on either problem has to be seen as an indictment of Mark Richt’s coaching staff. Most of Georgia’s problems were a matter of sloppy or careless play, not lack of talent.

Looks like Joe Cox's eyes are closed when throwing this fourth-quarter incompletion. Maybe that explains those two interceptions. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

Looks like Joe Cox's eyes are closed when throwing this fourth-quarter incompletion. Maybe that explains those two interceptions. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

Early in the season when Joe Cox would make stupid mistakes, many of us gave him the benefit of the doubt by pointing out his relative inexperience despite being a fifth-year senior.

But the most damning statement that can be made about Cox (and his coach, Mike Bobo) is that the quarterback never got better as the season progressed. Saturday night, with nearly a full season under his belt, he was still panicking when pressured and making really dumb throws. His second-half interceptions were two of the most ill-advised passes I’ve ever seen a QB attempt.

Cox completed 12 of 30 passes for 291 yards, three touchdown passes and those two dismal interceptions. He threw some really pretty balls deep. On that two-pass scoring drive in the second half, I wrote down in my notebook: “Joe Cox at his best.” But he was hopeless at the 10- to 15-yard possession pass. And, like I said, his decision-making was just awful.

Was he coached at all this season?

On the fumble at the Kentucky 1-yard line in the fourth quarter: Everyone seems pretty sure now that freshman Washaun Ealey was too close to Cox on the pitch. You have to wonder, if Cox noticed that, why he went ahead and made the pitch anyway. More to the point, why were the Dogs trying a toss sweep in that key moment? Earlier in the game a toss sweep already had resulted in a fumble, and it’s a play that Georgia has had trouble with all season long. Was that really the wisest play call in that situation?

The Dogs fumbled four times, losing two of them. Is it lack of concentration? Poor fundamentals?

What’s left to say about Bryan Evans? I can’t recall a senior starter for the Dogs who I was more anxious to see move on to alumnus status. His tackling was typically poor. And what was he thinking with that blatant late hit out of bounds that helped set up Kentucky’s first score? I don’t blame him for that pass interference call in the end zone, though. He was clearly beaten by the receiver and really had no choice if he didn’t want to give up a touchdown on the play. It didn’t much matter, though, as the Cats did score on the drive with a receiver left wide open.

Georgia had 427 yards of offense, with 196 on the ground, but only 53 of those rushing yards came in the second half. Kentucky had just 63 yards of offense in the first half but ended up with 260. Which team does it appear made successful adjustments at halftime?

One of the officials should be credited with an assist on that first touchdown by the Cats for managing to insert himself into the play and screen the Georgia defender, basketball-style.

Third and short. Normally that’s good news for an offense, but more than once Saturday the Dogs were unable to convert. Kentucky dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage in the second half.

Can we finally agree that kickoff returns are not Branden Smith’s strong suit?

And on the flip side, kickoff coverage is such a train wreck at Georgia that the Dogs probably would be better off just deliberately kicking out of bounds every time and giving the opponent the ball at the 40. That wouldn’t be much different from what Kentucky got time after time Saturday night. That squib kick returned 20 yards by an up back just summed up how hopeless the Dogs are in this area of the game. And, again, that’s another problem that hasn’t improved as the season has progressed.

This is one year Richt and his staff definitely should back up to the pay window.

Bottom line(s):
the way your team plays in the second half is more important than the first half
when you have two downs to gain half a yard, pound it up the middle not toss sweep around the end
uga players looked like deer in headlights, coaches looked hysterical – just plain lost
supeior talent and inferior performance = time to make MAJOR changes in staff…fast!

Wow! What can one even say? This is season reminded me of the Ray Goof days when the coaching staff looked like they had no clue. It also reminds me of when Spurrier stated that “I don’t know what happens to Georgia – they get all the atheletes”. Between poor defense, poor special team (not counting Walsh) and poor offense – what do you fix first? In all honestly, I thought this would be a rebuilding year but never did I expect the program to take a step backwards. Next season will be interesting.

Great thoughts. I hope the coaches are asking themselves the same things.

Coach Richt got us into this mess and he deserves the chance to get us out of it. If he decides to keep the staff as is, the goals should be clear. 1. Win SEC EAST 2. Beat FLA. 3. Win the SEC.

Nothing less for next year will be acceptable. CMR chose to go this year with the same staff…here we are again. He chose to try and win with a 5th year SR with an injury to his throwing arm. Even when all hopes were dashed, he chose not to get some other QB experience for next year. That is on CMR. I don’t want the excuses next year about our young QB’s with no experience. That will not cut it.

Not so sure that the play at the 1 yard line was supposed to be a pitch. I think Cox screwed that one up also because both the FB and the TB were lined up tight like it was a hand-off play off tackle. Ealey made a pocket like it was a hand-off called. Richt didn’t comment on whose fault it was which tells me that it was probably Cox. If it would have been Ealey’s fault than he would have attributed it to being a “freshman” mistake.

I am not a happy dawg! This was a garbage season!!! I have never seen so much talent on a Georgia team…and the fact that this talent is going to waste makes me sick! I for one have been all about CMR since he got here, but I’m really starting to feel that because of his lack of discipline instilled in these players, I’m beginning to question whether he is the man for the job. Bringing Slick Willie back (with a raise) and not trying to hold coaches more accountable is beyond me. I love all of our players (with the exception of Evans!)…and I just feel bad for the seniors that stuck with us to have to go out with a season like this. YES…this season is a HUGE dissapointment!….Until next year!

I see no way BoBo, Martinez, Jancek or Fabris should return. The only one I may give one more year is BoBo but his duties will not include coaching the QB’S. I am tired of the excuses from CMR. UK of the last 3 years is MILES more talented than the air raid Mumme teams that put 50 points on the board in 3 touchdown losses. And a serious portion of UK’s talent boost comes from Dawg-land.

Trevard Lindley, Hiram GA, will play cornerback on Sundays.

Randall Burden, LaGrange GA, is a sophomore on the other corner who has a chance to play on Sundays.

Sam Maxwell and Shane McCord, Hartwell GA, made the two interceptions that made Dawg Fans ill. Maxwell is the linebacker who clocked in with his 5th pick of the season, and is one of our best players on either side of the ball.

Matt Roark, Acworth GA, is a 6′5″ sophomore wide receiver who recovered the fumble on the 2nd half kickoff.

I know Dawg fans are upset with the season and with yesterday’s performance, but maybe y’all could find it in your hearts send some positive vibes our way for the UT game where 15 GA natives will take the field for the Cats. Lexington isn’t quite “Athens North,” but we’re nearly there. And Georgia football fans should know that the dramatic talent-level uptick for the Cats is Dawg-football inspired.

This season has been tough to watch. I am not going to point out the obvious flaws in our program right now. They have been made painfully clear.

Times are tough right now, no doubt. As I watched the game last night, I was disgusted by some of our “fans” who were leaving with 2:30 left. The recruits see this stuff and it makes an impact on their decisions. I thought that was bad, then Cox threw the interception and our fans booed him. It has been argued on here that the players can tell if the crowd is booing the staff or the team. It was pretty damn obvious who they were booing. I am not defending Cox’s play this year, but to boo your own players was classless and not what I stand for as a proud UGA alumnus.

Go Dawgs. Beat the nerds.

However, this is a fitting end to this season. UGA hasn’t lost to UK at home in 32 years but it came to an end last night. UGA VII had it easy and passed before he could witness this embarassing defeat. Next week we’ll be just as ugly. Defensive Line did ok as did some of the WRs- especially Orson Charles. Lets face it, Willie Martinez is not the only problem and firing him isnt going to solve the problem. The entire team is undisciplined and lacks focus. Penalties, turnovers, and lousy playcalling are symptoms of poor coaching in all facets of the game, offense, defense and special teams. It was obvious at the one game I attended this year, Arizona State. During the many lengthy tv timeouts, and at a point in the game where Az State was taking control, our players were laughing and dancing to rap music blasting over the speakers. No focus, no discipline, and it goes back to all the coaches, especially the head coach. I wont be driving all night back to So Ga after a game that ends at midnight so I can watch a team dance to rap music and play sloppy football. Lets get back to fundamentals and winning championships and get away from the hollywood production designed to turn out NFL players.CMR needs to sit down with CVD and take a few pointers on how to manage a team.

Blame the coaches all you want – even if you are wrong you are blaming professionals who make millions, so they’re fair game. But leave the kids alone. They are in the game because the coaches put them there and – tried at least – to teach them the fundamentals and then the game plan. If a kid consistently does a bad job, it’s on the coach – not the kid. After all the coach can watch the performance and, if needed, bench the kid. But these are youngsters who spend huge hunks of their time to be on the field, take the bumps and bruises … calling them out, or booing them from the stands, only adds insult to the pain.

This season is a bye product of Richt’s failure to make the right decisions in the past. His ability at evaluating talent is the worst I have ever seen as well. There are so many things wrong with Richt, and his way of coaching, I don’t see how Georgia will crawl out of this whole with him.

How can you explain bringing Willie back and giving him a raise considering how bad the defense played last year?

How can you believe anything that comes out of Richt’s mouth when he said in the spring that we would improve on defense, penalties, special teams, and on the offensive line. yet ALL have been 10 times worse this year?

How can anyone trust his ability to evaluate talent? His inability to do this has been evident for years. How else can you explain the reasoning behind red shirting Knowshon in 2006, and using Thomas Brown and Kregg Lumpkin as our featured backs? Hell, even in 2007 a far less talented Thomas Brown was our featured back, and got the most touches when 92,000 fans in the stadium and at home knew that Knowshon was our best back. Only when Thomas Brown went down with an injury, did Knowshon get his chance, and we won our last 7 games with a #2 finish nationally.

Now this year. How on earth can Mark Richt say after the Florida game that Joe Cox gives us our best chance of winning out???? Are you kidding me? I’ve been watching Georgia football since 1980, and Cox is by far the worst QB I have EVER seen at Georgia! There is no way he gives us our best chance of winning.

All of this brings me to a point. If Richt doesn’t FINALLY make changes after this season, next year will be his last. If he doesn’t realiZe that Washan Ealey is our best back, and starts him over Caleb King next year, we will struggle again, and Richt will be fired. HUGE changes need to be made, and I have been waiting for Richt to make the changes necessary to make this team better for years.

Unfortunately, knowing how Richt operates, I don’t believe he will make the necessary changes to the coaching staff, or play his best players next year.

Enjoy it while it last Mark Richt. Next year will be your last at Georgia.

Obviously some changes MUST be made in the offseason. Lets hope this train wreck can roll into Atlanta and actually WIN a meaningful game. GO DAWGS

It is bad enough to get beat by an inferior team talent wise. What really pops my cork is with 7 minutes left in a game that you are behind, is the fact we have guys dancing and laughing on the sidelines. Our great punter was all smiles about his dumb*** penalty. What the hell was that? CMR has NO disipline what so ever in this group. But thats ok, he is a nice christian man…thats all well and good, but somone needs to make it clear that he is getting paid to produce wins and run a program that we can all be proud of. How about dancing and laughing after we have won a game, instead of acting like the unruly and undisiplined “children” that we apparently are. CMR needs to clean up this mess that he has created. This is more than just coordinators, which CMR is responsible for. This jive, undisiplined, and not so smart football team is a direct reflection of the head coach, and it is high time CMR take the responsiblity to clean up this mess.

Realizing I am biased as an Alabama grad living in Atlanta, I still think this observation is valid. CMR is just not the right man for the job. He seems like a nice guy, bright enough, and, I’m sure, good to his Mama, but none of that necessarily translates into a good HC. Comparing him to Saban and Meyer, he just looks terrible. As an example, during yesterday’s UA-UTC game, up by 38 points and with the backups playing in the third quarter, Coach Saban verbally dressed down his backup QB for taking a needless 10 yard loss instead of throwing the ball out of bounds. It was a small mistake and didn’t influence the game’s outcome, but his comments to his QB made it evident that nothing less than perfection will be accepted. In contrast, Cox has been consistently awful this year with last night’s performance perhaps his worst, and CMR seems oblivious. Who is setting the standard? Who sets the expectations? Who is holding players accountable? All of this seems to be the responsiblity of the HC, but a responsibility CMR has abdicated. UGA’s performance this season is making the whole SEC look bad. Lose to Tech, and CMR and staff’s fate should be sealed.

15 months ago, UGA was raanked #1 in the nation and Tech was picked to go 3-9 by Sportsd Illustrated as it adjusted to new coaching staff & scheme. Regardless of your allegiances, GT led by CPJ and his staff have excelled and are clearly a team with a reenergized and expanding fan base. UGA has fallen farther & faster than any team with the possible exception of Michigan. The coaching staff, paid in hundreds of thousands and millions of dollars owe the entire UGA alumni and fanbase better. Mark Richt is the same man as he was when UGA won 13 games, but has failed to motivate, adjust, and coach this group of highly-touted recruits into a team that can play with the best in the SEC, much less the ACC. My hat is off to CPJ and the Tech team for staying together and knowing how to win games rather than self-destruct and lose games. Dark days in Athens, my friends…..

Every week shouldn’t be a new embarrassment. Last night was the worst loss of a season that has provided plenty of humbling and humiliating defeats. Joe Cox is a terrible QB. His only saving grace may be the fact that he allowed Aaron Murray to redshirt. Willie Martinez ABSOLUTELY has to go. Of that, there can be no question. I love Mike Bobo, but I am beginning to see a lack of fundamentals on his offense. This will be an interesting winter in north Georgia.

What a pathetic effort this season. No heart, no discipline, no intensity, no desire, no coaching, no drive. This group of Dawgs doesn’t deserve to wear the “G” on their helmets. Richt has failed the university, its fans, contributors, and most of all, the young men who believed in him enough to sign a letter of intent to continue their football careers at the University of Georgia.

Perhaps changes will finally be made once Adams leaves for the NCAA job and takes his stool pigeon Damon Evans with him.

Everything has been said. Everyone has been critized. There are answers. But will anything be done? Everybody can’t run the show. Mark it’s time to step up, you might have to hurt some feelings now or get yours hurt later. Right now your the top dog, alpha male: head honcho, would you rather hurt the feelings of underperforming coaches? Or the feelings of loyal money contributing alumni and fans that have to cheer for uninspired play with pitiful results. I know you’ll never read this so you might as well go blow a blue toad.

Well, Gruden just re-upped with ESPN, so he’s out…not that he was ever in to begin with, that just makes it official. Plus Gruden is a pro coach anyway – once you’ve won a Super Bowl, I imagine college ball doesn’t really do it for you.

On the bright side, at least we don’t have to worry about a 9-4 finish to mask the problems here, which are myriad and all easily traceable back to coaching or lack thereof. Now it’ll take an upset of Tech AND a win over a bowl opponent just to pull an 8-5, both of which are far from foregone conclusions.

In some ways, it’s like the economy – almost better to let the thing crater and get to the bottom so we can really see the extent of the damage and start building again, even if the rebuilding is gonna be painful and a long haul.

Staff changes may or may not be the answer…but if Richt makes some significant ones it’ll at least signal that he knows there are serious problems. I don’t wish anyone out of a job but it’s a results-based business, and if you aren’t cutting it it’s time to move on, sorry.

I think Richt ought to take his mild manner ways and find something else to do on saturdays, clearly he doesn’t instill discipline nor fire in his players. Great. Georgia football has now been reduced to fans calling each other out over who booed or didn’t boo last night. I booed once just for the record. Mike Bobo should never be allowed to call another play for UGA after dialing up that wretched draw on 3rd and 8 in the 4th quarter. Play calling is random and confusing and rarely makes any kind of sense. As for the defense……..there I said it all. If you think the defensive side of the ball is in good shape you haven’t watched GA football with any regularity for the last 3 seasons. We all know what needs to happen here. Overall if Richt doesn’t tighten up his belt and instill some discipline in the team to stop turnovers and penalties we are doomed for a future full of mediocrity. This isn’t even Richt’s biggest problem though, it is recruiting. We continue to recruit too many of the wrong kind of players at Georgia. Too much attention is paid to how many stars these guys have on rivals.com and not enough attention on where the kid’s head is and how he will work out in the long run. We definitely need more 3 star guys who will sweat and bleed to wear that red jersey and stop looking at GA as an audition for the NFL. These guys who give it there all are the backbone of a quality program. Green and Pollack were only 3 star recruits and I sure would love to have a couple of them back now. These are the guys we need to get back to where we all want to be.

Quotes from Andy Staples at si.com:

“How safe if Georgia’s Richt?

The director of the TV crew at the Kentucky-Georgia game probably set a record for “concerned fan with his hand over his open mouth” shots, but the visual storytelling seemed entirely appropriate. Kentucky’s 34-27 win really makes me wonder.”

“For the past few weeks, I’ve said there is no way Georgia coach Mark Richt loses his job. He’s too good and his success from 2001-08 more than makes up for a lousy 2009. I guessed that if Richt sacrificed defensive coordinator Willie Martinez and possibly offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, he’d be fine. Now I’m not so sure.”

“Georgia will be an underdog at Georgia Tech next Saturday, and nothing the Bulldogs have done this year suggests they’re anywhere near disciplined enough to beat the Yellow Jackets. If Georgia doesn’t pull the upset, things could get dicey in Athens.”

alot can be said about last night’s loss. the coaching staff failed (as usual) to make the necessary adjustments at the half to even play to win. GSU firing Chris Hatcher is a good hire for UGA to help with the qb’s if ADDE wants to make the trip to Macon,GA to see him. To Bryan Evans’ Dad , he did what he to do for the last 5 yrs he’s getting his degree and some butthole not the word I wanted to use like Bill King who uses the column for his viewpoints. Cox snuck it for a first down twice in short yardage no problem. But, when its third and one yard to the goal line, it is either pitch or fade route to the corner. Why not sneak it? Why not put in the brute force with two fullbacks and ram it home? Why does Bobo panic every time the dawgs get inside the five?

I don’t even have to mention the run call on third and ten after Cox was incredibly accurate? What does that do to the guy’s confidence? Maybe he starts throwing picks because he is trying to do too much?

Why do the coaches abort plays and strategies that are working?

Why do the dawgs continually (and this is my biggest of my few gripes about Richt) think they have games won before the final whistle? They obviously didn’t think UK was going to show up for the second half.

I can’t complain about Maritnez in this one. Not at all. The D played tough until the O started giving UK the ball on the ten, five, one. They even manned up and got it back twice. No, no, no, friends. Willie may not be the greatest coach in the world, but he shouldn’t get one ounce of blame on this one.

Bill, you could have saved yourself a lot of time by just having one point describe this mess:
COACHING.
All of our problems begin and end with coaching, period.
I’ve been saying it for a while now along with my so called “fair-weathered” bretheren there are problems with this program that go far deeper than just a “rebuilding” season.
This staff needs wholesale changes across the board. I love CMR, but if he doesn’t make a LOT of changes to this staff, coaching philosophy, and overall approach to the game we can expect more of the same.
I’m sick and tired of us getting the slightest lead and then relaxing. When is the last time the dawgs put their collective foot on a GOOD opponent’s neck and KEPT applying pressure? Even the Vandy game looked good on the scoreboard, but I didn’t feel like we just completely dominated them. Tenn.Tech doesn’t count. The dawgs have NO KILLER INSTINCT. Too much chest pounding over making a first down or a tackle.
Soft Coaching = Soft Players
Lack of preperation = sloppy play
Poor playcalling = poor execution
BTW- I’m spelling “dawg” with a lower case “d” , they’re going to have to earn my respect and the capital “D” back.
If all this makes me a fair-weathered fan, so be it. I just care too much about the dawgs and the program not to call bulls**t when I see it.
No I didn’t play college football, no I haven’t coached on any level other than pop-warner, but as a poster said a few months back, “You don’t have to be a chef to know your meal tastes like sh*t!”

There is no reason to believe that things will be better next year. Richt has become the twelth best coach in the SEC. I can’t think of anyone who is not better. We need total new coaching before next year. Richt will totaly destroy what he’s built. There is no coaching going on in Athens. The Tech score is going to be awful. The program is in complete decline. I look for the recruiting class to evaporate. I wouldn’t advise anyone to commit to us as long as we have the current coaching situation. It amazed me all the wasted talent as they anounced the departing seniors and how many we had never heard from. The staff does not evaluate talent and does not coach up the boys. A ugly thing for the boys who have put there trust in Richt. Please Georgia make the needed change now and don’t wait for awful year. And yes I am a fan going back the GA/Aburn games in Columbus and represent 8 season tickets (though that may not be true next year). It’s no fun to watch a team that does not seem capable of winning. When the game was tied 27-27 I knew immediately that we had lost. It’s the trade mark of the team and coaches. Fire Richt now and let him do what ever he’d wants do besides coaching. We’re paying for better that last place in the coaching ranks. The school and players deserve better.

Dear Coach Richt,

UGA VII died of a broken heart watching these guys play. However, UGA VII said a prayer from DAWG heaven: Coach Richt, help the DAWGS and Free Willie. Anxiety about our defensive play caused much shame about being associated with the touted Junkyard defense. Don’t give UGA VIII a big bone but a new defensive coordinator. Otherwise, UGAs of past generations will haunt you down from DAWG heaven and will take a unrelenting bite out of your backside. Please move the graveyard out of Stanford Stadium, we just can’t stand watching this defensive. This play makes us look like girly Biscon Frisches not ferious stubborn bulldawgs.

This offseason and the 2010 season are now set up to be the pivotal years of Mark Richt’s tenure in Athens–where we learn once and for if he has the goods to be a successful SEC football coach, or if it’s time to move on.

I don’t think he’s in any danger of getting fired, no matter what happens at Tech and in any potential bowl game. It’s possible that he quits in protest if staff changes are mandated and he doesn’t want to make them, but I think that scenario unlikely as well.

That said, if the coming offseason and next year don’t bring noticeable improvement in multiple facets of the program, the coaching seat will become Weis-hot.

Coach Richt, one of the biggest problems is that it’s very possible to be loyal to a fault.

It’s tough to criticize loyalty as a character trait. But you absolutely have to realize that, in a cutthroat business, there’s a time to be loyal and a time to make changes.

Any leader in any business owes it to those he leads to be brutally honest and make changes when there are necessary and when it’s obvious that they need to be made.

Every day is a great day to be a DAWG! Even after a miserable loss. For the record, why would a fan (supporter) of a team boo its own team? Illogical. We can all name countless problems, but we need solutions. Here’s a novel suggestion: Kevin Butler as the new special teams coach. Aside from his experience on CHAMPIONSHIP teams, knowledge of the intricacies of the game and straight forward approach, Butler brings something this team seems to be lacking.Attitude that breathes fire, discipline and results. In a word: DAWGS. If you don’t run on kickoff coverage and aren’t even in the picture before the 30 yard line…other Dawgs surely will. So many great players have worn that “G” and worn it well. Special Teams Kevin Butler has a nice sound to it, doesn’t it? I have to find the mailing address for Damon Evans’ office to continue this line of thinking. Change always happens, progress doesn’t.

That said, beat tech!!!!! DawgNation let’s scream hard for our beloved team!

Seems to me that it hasn’t been that many years (2) since we were trying to get rid of Chan and complaining about Reggie Ball. You guys were loving every minute of our misfortune on both counts – begging us to keep Chan and Ball in the mix and why not – easy pickings, while singing the praises of your coach and quarterback. Now, in the short span of these two years, our two programs have completely reversed themselves in both of these areas where we now sing the praises of our coach and quarterback and begging you to keep yours. It may take some time for our program to catch back up to yours in totality but we will – eventually. That old saying “What goes around – comes around” has never held more truth than it does today in this regard.

Since everyone else is chiming in on the state of the program at UGA here’s my two cents worth. When you look for a beginning of the program demise at UGA – two things come to mind. 1) Think back to the extremely poor sportsmanship displayed in Florida’s end zone after the UGA score. While lies and excuses about the actual words and “meanings” CMR used to gloss over what happened, many folks across the nation, “outside” the UGA family of friends and fans, saw something else – something different about CMR that day. While he might be a great guy on a personal level – he seems to have lost a lot of credibility with his fellow coaches, players and potential recruits and now with his fans. 2) The loss of Stafford, Moreno and Massaquoi – although great players all – leaving should have allowed the next generation of DAWGS to step up. However, there has been a constant “wringing of hands” and excuse making from Athens that the reason the program has taken a huge hit this year is because they left. In all the years past when great players have left, there has been no drop off in talent or productivity as it relates to wins and losses. While most other programs brace for that kind of “hit”, UGA has traditionally been the program that paraded out another star. So then the question is, with at least equal or better recruiting classes, why weren’t these next stars ready to step up? Again I have to go back to the credibility issue between coaches and current players. Every person standing on that sideline must look into their own heart to find the reason to perform at a championship level and for the players it can’t be all about trying out for the NFL every Saturday – although you do produce an inordinate amount of NFL players. That feeling – that reason to perform – to be the best, used to be there a couple years ago as it has for many years before that. Fix the credibility issue and you fix your program. Honesty and integrity on the field of practice and play are paramount and just as important as “X’s” and “O”s”.

Sometimes one play sums up an entire game and an entire season. Prince Miller was defending a pass late in the game. The pass, poorly thrown, sailed over the KY player’s head. Prince Miller, who was beaten on the play if the pass had been well thrown…..goes on a 10 yard dance down the field, shaking his head, beating his chest, gleefully jumping up and down just like he had won the BCS Championship or the Nobel Peace Prize or something.

……the problem is…in my humble opinion…he had done nothing to be proud of on that one play….and his TEAM WAS BEHIND BY A TOUCHDOWN WITH JUST OVER 2 MINUTES TO PLAY!

….jumping and prancing around and trying to draw attention to himself…the “ME ME ME” attitude that has been reflected all year under the nice-guy coach who does high dives for the chosen entitled spoiled brat children while he defends them when they sideline dance and get arrested by campus cops.

What a meltdown! UK loaded the box in the second half, turned up the heat on Cox, and Cox couldn’t deliver. Tech may not have the ACC’s best defense but they aren’t stupid. Well, not THAT stupid! I look for Tech to load the box and make Cox try to beat them. If CPJ can run the ball and stop UGA’s ground game it will be a long afternoon for the Dawgs.

How can you allow that many personal foul penalties and then not make an example of the players involved? That is a total lack of discipline that points directly at the coaching staff.
How can you allow that poor a selection of playcalling without making a change? Bobo is so bad at play selection that we would do better by spinning a wheel. We proved several times during the game that we could consistently run the ball for 1st downs and he kept Cox throwing the ball downfield. Did anyone feel like we flushed our biggest advantage- depth – by not keeping Kentucky’s defense on the field longer and wearing them down?
The defensive situation speaks for itself. I have to believe that after Tech hangs 40+ on us that this will go down as the worst defensive performance for the season ever for UGA. Mr. 45 has to go.
I am an alumni and a lifelong fan, but this is the most frustrated I have ever been with the program- at least since the Goff years. I had realistic (I thought) expectations for the season- 8 or 9 wins and a decent bowl game. I was not expecting them to win the East or even be in the BCS bowl picture. My frustration is this- you recruit top talent- dont tell me we dont- and then you want your very well-paid coaching staff to coach them up. It looks like the exact opposite is happening.
If Richt doesnt make serious changes inn the off season- fire Matinez, demote Bobo and remove his play-calling responsibilities, mix up special teams- he will lose my support to continue as head coach..

Cox and Martinez are easy whipping boys for “winning is the only thing” fans. Cox is just not that bad. Had His Holiness played him more during the Stafford era, he wouldn’t be making as many mistakes. Richt is not the only coach to pad statistics by playing the first string against the LSU Monroes and Middle Tennessees of the world. Tebow should have been on the bench againsk UK when the game was already put away. Concussions do not heal. Cox is a good kid who should have transferred to Wake Forest or a smaller school instead of taking the beating and blame for Richt’s incompetence. The Richt era is over, and Auburn, Tech, and TN, in spite of criminal recruits, are on the way up.

Let’s see, if I want to be a typical Dawg fan then I have to hate our coaches and players, give up on the final game of the season, hope to heck we don’t get invited to a bowl game because I just couldn’t take the embarrassment, and–most puzzling of all–find a reason all our successes were aberrations because our failures really define who we are. Then I have to make fun of all other teams because they’re not a top program. No wonder you guys get parodied as double-digit-IQ-single-digit-toothcount-loud-obnoxious losers.

Here’s why we walked out last night prior to the end of the game…

Not because I knew we would win – or lose….

Because after a generation watching Georgia play, we were UP TO HERE with the thug behavior on the UGA sidelines. Dancing and prancing with long braids swinging, all while tied or behind in the game, commiting stupid personal fouls and then chest bumping and laughing about it on the sidelines. Trying to draw attention to themself instead of focusing on the game. I’m tired of the gansta “music” and the dancing and the arrests and the attitude and the costumes instead of the regular uniforms and coaches who are apparently don’t care or who don’t want to hurt the feelings of the class-less thugs they have recruited.

What happened to honor? What happened to pride?

Mr. Evans, with a program so flush with money, it probably doesn’t make any difference to you whether we renew the season tickets we’ve had for a generation, but it makes a difference to us. So, here’s one pair of season tix that will be available for the first time since an honorable man named Dooly led the 71 Team to the Gator Bowl.

R.I.P. Georgia Football played with honor.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, since I have not read all of these comments, but everyone think and compare where we have evolved to as a football program under Richt, and that of the present condition of a former strong program down in Tallahassee (FSU), FL.
The similarites and general complexion and makeup of these two programs over the last few years is almost identical.
Same type of leadership style and habits within the coaching staff’s.
I have a strong feeling since CMR has went on record as saying that he emulates, and even asks himself when a tough decision “what would Coach Bowden do”, that he feels his way works, and at all times just do the right thing.
Do we want our own little FSU in Athens??
They (FSU) still get plenty of blue chippers, and produce numerous NFL picks year after year, just like us, yet look at where they are and have been for awile now.
Its a matter of coaching and daily direction, I’m afraid.
Is this what we want in Athens??

The second half was more akin to Three Stooges or Keystone Kops!!Don’t forget the blocked punt! Things are ROTTEN all over. The way the campus is trashed is a reflection of the whole program. We’re headed toward the bottom like Michigan. Adams, Evans, and Richt either don’t care or are helpless to do anything about it. And don’t say all schools are like this. They’re Not!! WE are the trashiest. UGA fans and ALUMNI had better get their heads out of the sand or we’re in for more of the same. Treating CMR so cozy at Bulldog Club meetings is sickening. another thing, for those of you, including you bill, that think coaching lost this game, you are really showing that you know absolutely nothing about football.. i don’t care who was coaching us in that game, we would not have won with the turnovers that we had, nor the QB that we have. and i don’t any one of you are present at practice to make a statement that someone else should be in there. i’m lucky enough to have a cousin, whom i’m very close too, play on the team, and cox is the best that we have this year..(unfortunately) and last, don’t knock the toss sweep call, which ealey, a freshman, thought was a handoff. we’ve scored many a toucdowns on that call, and it was obvious we weren’t going to make it up the gut. if he runs the play accordingly, he gets in no problem..

bottom line,, we’re simply not a good enough team, this year, to overcome the TO’s.

It is so pervasive that I don’t think it can be reversed in the short term. It’s time to just clean house – from the AD on down to Richt and his pathetic side-show of a coaching staff. GT will absolutely stomp this UGA team because Richt & crew will not be prepared for the game. GT wins something like 58 to 20 and will control the ball for roughly 42 minutes. This year, both daddy FSU and his former number one stooge will both have 6-7 teams after the bowl games. Do you notice a pattern? They didn’t forget how to coach…they simply didn’t keep up with the changing game and they continued to recruit undisciplined primma donnas. Too much of a carnival atmosphere at the tomb of Uga VII. Baylie took a rose, red of course, to the game to lay at his final resting place. People were lining up to get their family pictures taken in front of the tombs along with the wreathes and flowers. Baylie waited patiently in line and a photographer asked if she wanted her picture taken when it came her turn to place her rose. She told the photographer and me, “I don’t want to be in a picture placing a flower. It is not about me. It is about Uga.” She placed her flower and then we went looking for an elevator. Outside the entrance gate we stopped and spoke to one of the Seiler’s family. Baylie told him she was sorry he had lost his dog. He thanked us for our compassion. Evans has been burned a few times for sure in his career but Renne Curran has been burned twice as much as Evans in coverage over the last two seasons. The entire LB crew is the worst group I have seen at UGA in 20 years.Every single one of them has been a liability in pass coverage all season.Folks are quick to jump on the secondary players(Evans and Miller)but Curran and Gamble have blown twice as many coverages and saying twice is being real generous.Joe Cox is more of a Joe T than DJ….be honest….If a guy never got on the field for 4 years how in the hell did you think he would morph into a ballplayer as a senior?has it ever happened?I know…”It’s the coaches fault for not getting Gray or Murray ready” maybe….or maybe Gray has no game and Murray was not physically ready to answer the bell early in the season.I don’t second guess the RS on Murray though…the run game has been established now and we have weapons in the passing game to go with an experienced line…he will have a much stronger foundation to work with than Cox started out with.Actually Murray will be more options to work with than Stafford or Green as freshmen starters.Young guys and 1st year players make a lot of mistakes…look at where our To’s come from.Cox may b a 5th year SR but at the end of the day he is still a1st year starter.QB and LB are the two worst performing positions on the team.

Face it Dawg fans, we can’t play. The coaches are responsible for putting the best players on the field. If this is the best they can find, we have a problem. Personally, I think the problem is coaching. Bobo has not improved since the USC game in 2007. WM still doesn’t have a clue how to stop any SEC offense. This season has been a definitive definition of insanity. Doing the same thing, with the same people and expecting different results.

To Evan’s detractors. He committed an inexcusably stupid and costly penalty and then stayed in the game. When he finally came to the sideline I saw one of the coaches pat him on the head with an atta-boy. How can you blame the kid if that is the way they are disciplined? CMR was right when he said Cox throws a very ” catchable ” ball. So catchable that the defense caught it 14 times so far this year. Cox seems like a good kid, but he should never have started for UGA, or any other D-1 school. So much for his ” never lost a game since the 8th grade” mystique.

A short note to Bulldog nation (borrowed from my earlier post over on Schultzie’s blog…):

Although I predicted a Wildcat victory last week in Bradley’s space, I never saw this coming… particularly after the Auburn game last week. Penalties, turnovers, and an embarrassing lack of mental discipline in the second half… there really is no other explanation for it. I am a Tech grad, but this one was embarrassing for anyone from the State of Georgia to watch. CMR lost this team several weeks ago… it is time for him to step up and take responsibility for this season. The last time Kentucky won in Athens, I was 12 years old and attending my first college football game between the hedges… nothing against Rich Brooks and the ‘Cats, but the Dawgs simply gave this one away last night. UGA VII deserved better…

Bottom line for CPJ and the Jackets next Saturday: We will need to be very, very careful with this Georgia team. The Dawgs are playing for pride now. This year, unlike so many other years in recent memory, the Dawgs – rather than the Jackets – will be forced to treat our game like a bowl game. Patience, discipline, and hard work on both sides of the ball will give the Jackets the win, but not before the Dawgs take an early lead as they ride a season full of frustration onto the field in the first quarter. We need to absorb whatever the Dawgs throw at us in the first half, maintain our composure, run our offense, and watch knowingly as CMR and his team slowly self-destructs under the combined weight of better coaching from the opposite sideline, a series of untimely and really dumb personal fouls, and our relentless rushing attack. Our house, and our time, Bulldog nation…

Go Jackets!!

All I gotta say is from #1 to a bottom feeder in the SEC in a little over a year with a top 5 recruiting class. That says it all. You’ve got Senior night against KY, and your beloved mascot passed away. That is the best we can do is lose to KY. We had a chance to right our season but we lose to KY. I can’t believe that we lost to KY. By the way that is a 2 and 2 record against Ky the last four years. There is a loss to Vandy in there. There are constant humiliatons on national TV, a 2 and 8 record against FLA, 3 out of 4 blowouts to UT, and soon to be 2 in a row to a building GT. You tell me if a new direction is needed.

reebok, there isn’t even a remote chance of that happening. GT has a real hands-on coach just in case that slipped your mind. UGA will lose the game in a huge way. More penalties, blown coverages, turn overs, etc. Another Saturday, another UGA embarrassment. No adjustments on offense or defense and more stupid plays being called. I’d really like to see this game return to the rivalry of the past but that won’t happen as long as we keep CEO Richt & his cronies. BTW, thanks for not gloating.

Georgia Tech Old Timer said

“When you look for a beginning of the program demise at UGA – two things come to mind. Again I have to go back to the credibility issue between coaches and current players.”

GT Old Timer, you raise a valid point. Two years ago, when Richt encouraged the Georgia players to draw an excessive celebration penalty after the first touchdown in the win against Florida, I had an uneasy feeling then that Richt and Georgia was going to pay dearly for that decision. Since then, Georgia has paid dearly and, because Richt set a poor example two years ago, the players feel its o.k. to dance and behave in an unsportsmanlike manner.

Georgia obviously thought they won the game at halftime last night. Brooks and the other Kentucky coaches must have said or done something during halftime because Kentucky was a different team in the second half than in the first. Brooks is of the Dooley-Dodd-Bryant-Paterno mold because, like those four coaches, he would not put up with the behavior the Georgia players have displayed this year.

One earlier poster noted the similarities between FSU and Georgia. I have also noticed too. I DO NOT want Georgia to turn into another FSU. I have followed Georgia football for nearly 40 years and Georgia, under Dooley and Russell, were known for their discipline, toughness, and willingness to do whatever it took to win. If Georgia loses badly to Georgia Tech (and I think they will) Evans needs to sit Richt down and tell him in no uncertain terms that Martinez is gone, the special teams coach is gone, Bobo is gone or demoted, in 2010 Georgia wins the SEC East and/or beats Florida. If Richt does not like these terms, he needs to go too. If Georgia loses badly to Georgia Tech to finish 6-6, they should not go to a bowl, period.

There were some posts complaining about the fans booing or leaving the game early. The tickets are not cheap and fans or alumni who pay a good bit of money for the tickets (especially with the economy being the way it is) and are forced to watch the kind of play they saw in the second half last night have the right to boo or to leave early. The big money donors needs to send Damon Evans a message that there has to be change or the donations will not come through.

Georgia Tech Old Timer and the other Tech Fans on the board, congratulations on a great season and good luck against Clemson in the ACC championship.

Wish I could disagree with any of Bill’s comments but the program at GA has fallen like a rock starting with the Alabama debacle last year. Of course there was the Tech debacle and then we come to this year. We are on the slide of losing to TN, FL, Tech and if this were Ray Goff or Jim Donnan people would be screaming. I think Coach Richt deserves 1 more year but without substantial improvement it will be time to move on. He had a great run but just doesn’t seem to be able to sustain it. It will be interesting tomorrow to hear Buck Belue. He is such a homer it is not funny. At least Kevin Butler has the cajones to tell it like it is.

UGA never has to worry about being like FSU; they’ve never in their history been as consistently good as the Seminoles were from the mid 70’s to the mid 90’s. Bulldog nation seems to think every team but the Dawgs is only as good as their worst season, whereas UGA is a top program because of the Herschel years. I was at the Kentucky game two years ago when the biggest cheer of the night went to a replay of the “blackout” earlier that season. Fans then thought wearing black could win a game; now they know that they’re losing because of coaching. Who can take such people seriously?

UGA will be fine – we are just panicking now. We are just getting over the residual effects of poor offensive recruiting under our previous OC – we will never have another QB as untalented as Joe Cox for a very long time, unless injuries occur. Bobo has finally come to CMR’s rescue, and is getting us a SEC offense installed of smash mouth football with great talent at WR also – it just takes time. I hate to say it, but wait until next year – I knew the OL was still a year away. We return everybody but Joe Cox, and it’s all better from here offensively (give the new QB 3 or 4 games next year to get settled in however).

Defensively – we’ll see. Hard to judge this year with the terrible Offensive and Special Teams. They have been put in so many terrible situations – and they haven’t handled them well. Would give CWM another season and see (and that is a change for me – calling for his head earlier this year).

Overall, UGA is a program on the rise, with young coaches, who is just suffering a terrible year. If Special teams and Penalties/To’s don’t improve next year – gotta start looking at the HC – he is the one doing a poor job. In this business, a Coach is only as good as his assistants. I know my take is not popular, but that is as objective as I can be.

I don’t know why people even post about firing CMR. He has 4 years left on a contract that pays him 2.8 million per year…That would be an 11.2 million payout not to coach. In a day and age where teachers have to take unpaid furloughs every year, i don’t see Georgia pay CMR 11 million not to coach and then turn around and pay another 12-16 million for a new coach. The better solution would be to go out and hire the very best OC and DC coordinators and pay them $1 million a year. This would be the best football and financial solution

Now you know how Tech fans felt with Gailey not coaching up either Ball or Bennett at the QB position.

Another thing I see in CMR is that he learned a lot from Bobby Bowden. Bowden’s teams were undisciplined, getting in trouble on and off the field. I don’t think Richt’s personality will change because that is who he is. I think he still a great coach, and simply needs to get better football people around him. However, unless he steps up to the plate and demands his players play and act disciplined, then things may start to decline like they have down at FSU, because even FSU is still getting the good players, but you see what they are doing with them.

Typical CMR “do the right thing” move sealed the fate of this season in September, and that was starting Joe Cox.
If Joe C. is the best we got, we in trouble for awhile!
I dont think Aaron Murray ever factored into the job, CMR had his mind made up.
Remember Joe Tereshinski….started 4 games before hurting his ankle and CMR having to play Stafford, Joe T still gets job back against UT and Vandy once healthy, loses both of those, Stafford comes back.
I’m sorry, but this aint the Boys Club, its the SEC.
Not only had to endure this year, but as we know because of this undying loyalty we’ll have to go through growing process with Murray next year.
Fans are fed up with this, and I’d imagine some players are as well.
Not all Joe C.’s fault, but CMR’s loyalties have caught up with him.
You think either Joe’s would have stepped on the field under Saban or Meyer?
Not hardly. Its become embarrasing.

Bill I agree with your point in the first paragraph, but it appears you let Mark Richt off the hook. We can blame the players and assistants all we want, but at the end of the day the team is a reflection of their leader. It is the job of Mark Richt to evaluate his staff and players and determine who should be playing and who needs to be coached up.

I am not a Bobo fan, but I don’t think it is fair to blame for the lack of Joe Cox’s development. I think at quaterback you either have the head for it or you don’t…. what concerns me is if he is the best we have right now, how good are we going to be at this position next year?

As for bringing in new quality assistants, I think that could be a big problem. What great DC or OC is going to want to leave their current situation (assuming they are a top flight DC or OC) to come and work for a HC that is clearly entering next season on the hot seat… and with a new redshirt freshman at quarterback that has never taken a snap?

CMR your downfall will be as follows :( Someone please let me know if you disagree.)
(1) YOUR lack of team disciple during games.
(2) YOUR absolute loyal blindness to soft zone Willie. (If no defensive adjustment Willie was at any other school in the country would he still is employed there?)
(3) YOUR lack of ability to motivate this team during a game.
(4) YOUR lack of ability or simply not caring at all. (Which both seem to be pretty debatable at this point.)College football is a business plain and simple. WE give money to the University and pay you millions a year. YOU win football games. Pretty easy to understand.

Georgia fans act like they have been some elite program in teh past 100 years. Ok, you guys had a good run for 2 or 3 years, but that has not been the norm for 30 years. Facts:
Big fan base: Idiots will follow anything.
Have not been anywhere close to a NC in 30 years.
Florida owns you guys
Looks like tech will own you guys for some time coming.

It’s fine to be a Georgia fan, but please don’t go around acting like you have been some great program in the past. It’s not true and you should accept the fact that Georgia will not be anything in the near future. Now go back to your fry station and STFU.

Wow, our beloved Dawgs have stooped to new lows. We lost to Kentucky at home for the first time since 1977. Where are all the BLIND HOMERS like L-Dawg in BOLD caps praising our beloved coaching staff????

It’s quite clear how undisciplined, unprepared, and totally apathetic our coaching staff is…it’s time for change. Mark Richt is no longer above reproach, it’s time for Mark to make changes or the changes will be made for him. It’s completely unacceptable to sit around and not do a damn thing to improve the level of coaching quality in the sidelines. If he is not up for a competitive challenge, by hiring top tier assistant, then change must be made.

We are no longer relevant in the SEC, we are being passed by programs that are not going to put up with this type of apathetic crap.

jesse james, Thanks. I know the vast majority of the fan base is sane and understand that we are having a bad year. It happens. Most of the fans can see the young talent on this team and know what the future will bring. For the love of me, I can not figure out the hate some of the so called fans on this forum are talking about the players.

I am in the process of writing my letters to CMR, DE and PA to try to convince them that the best coarse of action for our university is to try to purge so these type people. That can best be done by making no changes and hopefully they will get the message and leave. It may hurt the program for a couple years (dollars) but getting them out would be in the best interest for the long term benefits of the university.

WOW. I just read a bunch of comments about our football team and coaching staff. Out of the many posted here, only one contained a positive message. Yes, I am a frustrated fan, but reading what most of you have to say makes me more sick than watching the Dawgs fall apart in the second half.

I followed a link about Joe Cox and found this page. I have never been here before, and based my visit today will probably never be back. However, I felt compelled to leave an opinion of my own:

The University of Georgia was blessed when Mark Richt was hired as head coach. He turned our program around and has brought many wins and much respect back to our school. Yes, 2009 has been tough, but so was 1901 . . . UGA won the season opener but finished 1-5-2. I think we have rebounded from that terrible season and we will rebound again.

Vince Dooley often followed successful seasons with mediocrity – look up 1969, 70, 74. In 1977, we went 5-6 after winning the SEC with a 10-2 record the previous year. Good thing we didn’t fire him then or we might have missed out on a National Championship 3 years later!

Get smart people. Success in athetics has always been and always will be cyclical. Bobby Bowden has had ups and downs. Joe Paterno – ups and downs. Vince Dooley the same.

Mark Richt will also have ups and downs. Right now we are down. When we return to glory this setback will make us all appreciate the good times even more (although most of you will never realize this because of a short-sided view of everything).

Go Dawgs. Beat Tech!

DAWG Faithful;

Step back from the edge and remember that UGA is a premier program that is in a league with several other premier programs. From time to time they all take a minor step back from the top, this just happens to be UGA’s time.

For those who wish for CMR to be replaced with say, Bob Stoops; well besides getting his butt stomped in every bowl game “since” that one time he lucked into the NC Title he is by no means anyone to replace CMR!
I know of what I speak, we (SC Trojans) CREAMED his sorry butt in the NC game in ‘05!! It would have been an even worse case of asault but Coach Carroll called off the dogs in the 3rd qtr to try and keep from embarrassing him even worse. To further my point in the ‘03 NC game in the Sugar agaisnt LSU the fianl score was 21-14 but up until the final 5 mins of that game the Tigers had held OU to 7 points and hardly any yardage on offense. That game was to the sad detrimment of Raiders fans the sealing of the deal to draft JaMarcus Russell #1 overall that spring.
We too are having a “down” year, MAJOR loss of talent to the draft, injuries and coaches leaving to go elsewhere. No one thinks that becasue of the record that Coach Carroll has forgotten how to coach, neither should DAWG nation think that CMR needs to be run out of town! QUITE THE OPPOSITE!!! Bill,

Fantastic summary…. I think it is the most well thought out thing you have done all year… Awesome job. My brother and I were talking before and after the game… The coaching problems are not fundamentals and it is not that the players aren’t being coached up. The problem is scheme. Our offense and defense is getting out schemed week in and week out. Bill, your analysis of the toss play is one I have been making since OKST. It is a horrible play and should be thrown out… reminds me of the read option Richt kept calling for Green. I mean we have great talent but we do not go to the strength of those players with scheme. Earlier in the season, it looked like our players were running the scout team offense…. You see it with players fighting to get to a spot… but when they reached the spot, they were out of position to make plays. (Insert any pulling OL or FB lead here). That is poor scheme coaching. We have improved that but in the end, Cox’s undoing was his height. The coaching staff seemed like they were calling plays as if a 6′5″ Stafford was in the pocket versus a 6′ish Cox. Too many batted balls and too many careless turnovers. Okay, your guy has great touch and can light up the deep ball. He is not effective in the pocket… so what do you do… run play action and boot… we were doing that early in the game… what happened? we were moving the ball really well. Then UK adjusted… stopped crashing the DE’s so hard. Theoretically, that opens up running lanes. It did but then we would run silly plays like middle screens that took too long to develop. And the defense… OMG Martinez has been outcoached the last two years. He does not have a good game plan coming in and he is not able to help his team out. Ok, so if your front 4 can’t get pressure you have to bring pressure from other areas. We did not put in effective run blitz packages, pass blitz packages all year. When we did, we kept our linebackers aggressive and reading the run action…. and boom, defenders out of position to cover the crossing routes or the zone squats. Not fundamentals, SCHEME…

Martinez is done and should be done…. my vote is to go after Tenuta at ND. He recruited well at Tech and knows the area well. If Martinez wants to step down to coaching the secondary, I am all for that but we need a new face in town.

Bobo – He needs to take a long look at what it is he is doing and how he is running the offensive scheme. He is not out the door as much as Willie but he needs to find a way to RUN THE BALL. He is too caught up with the idea of throwing the ball all over the place. Elite QB’s are rare… I don’t know if Murray will be that guy. I will tell you that unless we can start running the ball it won’t matter. Take a look at Alabama… what are they doing. Running the ball extremely well and playing tough D. Stafford, Moreno, and Massaquoi (and Green) really hid a lot of the issues with the O line and consistency of play. Makes me even question how much I really did not care for Stafford. Looking at the poor play and scheme makes me realize, UGA really needs to retool… If we beat Tech great… if we lose, oh well… but we will have 3 weeks to install a new offensive scheme. Bobo needs to realize no one cares if we beat Smelly U in the Toilet Bowl. What will be important is developing schemes to use against an opponent that will allow us to define what we will stand for next season.

As a 7-year old boy, I saw my first Georgia game in 1957 when we “broke the drought” against Georgia Tech. I’ve been a fan ever since, and Georgia football has provided me with some great thrills. That said, I cannot remember a Georgia team playing a worse half of football than what I saw last night. It was unbelievable. I can only hope that this year was an aberration and that next year brings the changes that will return our program to prominence. Enough bonehead penalties, turnovers, dropped passes, stupid kickoff return decisions, and night football in Athens. How long until the Braves report for spring training?

Should Georgia fire March Richt?

No!

Have you visited http://www.firemarkricht.net ? Any notion of firing Georgia Bulldogs Coach Mark Rich is foolish.

Yes, Willie Martinez, defensive coordinator, should be replaced. Yes, Richt needs to return to play calling duties for Mike Bobo.

And Richt needs to recruit more physical, hard hitting types of players instead of finesse ones.

But even Vince Dooley had his share of down, mediocre, and disappointing seasons. Go research Georgia’s win-loss record in 1979. We know what those Bulldogs did in 1980.

Now I do not expect 2010 to be like 1980. But the point is that every coach in college football should be allowed to have an occasional mediocre season, in the context of having mostly successful seasons – especially when most of those seasons land the team in a coveted BCS Bowl.

Remember that Georgia lost three critical offensive skills players (quarterback, running back, and wide receiver) to the NFL. Often the best coaching—especially during practices—come during a mediocre, struggling season that are followed by a solid, if not great season.

Time will tell us about 2010. As a Georgia Bulldogs fan, this 2009 season has hurt, but I also know I have been spoiled by success over the past few decades.

Yes, the Kentucky Wildcats winning in Athens was difficult to swallow. They’re a team that hasn’t won in 42 years (since 1967 I believe). However, Richt has had enough success at Georgia in which he has earned the opportunity to adjust, make changes, and improve.

Richt inherited and did not recruit David Greene, David Pollack, Boss Bailey, etc. While he did draft Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno, etc, it bears repeating: Richt should recruit more physical, hard hitting types of players, and less finesse ones.

If Georgia foolishly fires Richt (which would surprise me), than more than likely his replacement won’t do a better job.

But that is really not the reason why Georgia should keep Richt.

Georgia should keep Mark Richt because it is the right thing to do in the NCAA world of “win now” and instant gratification. A look at his career coaching statistics should bring any logical fan to this reasonable conclusion.

Mark Richt didn’t suddenly become a bad coach after winning two SEC championships (2002, 2005) and playing for another (2003). When football teams have a disappointing season like this, the head coach has to be willing to analyze everything and everybody in the offseason.

In my humble opinion, team discipline is a significant issue at UGA due to numerous careless penalties, turnovers, lack of practicing fundamentals (like tackling), and frequent sloppy play.

The coach needs to elevate his game. Georgia’s offseason conditioning program should be evaluated, in terms of keeping players in their best shape in order to avoid injuries and to play in peak condition.

Also, assess the quality of the players and recruits from high schools. Evaluate each assistant coach. Are the players being set up for success? Are the players being coached to their highest potential?

If Georgia has one or even a couple more disappointing seasons in 2010 and 2011, then this issue will need to be revisited, and perhaps a coaching change will then be what’s best for the football team.

But not now. Not today. And even not at the end of the 2009 season after a meaningless exhibition called a bowl game.

WTH was that?

T.Slay,

You were doing ok with your post at 4:25 PM and then you veered wildy off track. And I quote,

” If Georgia loses badly to Georgia Tech (and I think they will) Evans needs to sit Richt down and tell him in no uncertain terms that Martinez is gone, the special teams coach is gone, Bobo is gone or demoted, in 2010 Georgia wins the SEC East and/or beats Florida. If Richt does not like these terms, he needs to go too. If Georgia loses badly to Georgia Tech to finish 6-6, they should not go to a bowl, period.”

Do you really think that is the way it works, that the AD “sits the coach down and tells him in no uncertain terms” that he has to fire certain coaches and has to either beat Fla. or win the East. No discussion and no give and take? Do you really think a man with Coach Richt’s level of responsibility would just say “well, OK” and take it? Would you want a Coach who would do that? Do you think he is an assembly line worker? Are you serious? Also, it is pretty well known that the Dawgs don’t have a special teams coach, so our AD would look pretty foolish if he said that. And what if we beat Fla. but lost every other game, wouldn’t the AD look pretty foolish by agreeing to such terms?

Now on to your next observation:
“There were some posts complaining about the fans booing or leaving the game early. The tickets are not cheap and fans or alumni who pay a good bit of money for the tickets (especially with the economy being the way it is) and are forced to watch the kind of play they saw in the second half last night have the right to boo or to leave early. ”
No one is saying they don’t have “the right” to leave early. Did you see the UGA police stopping anyone? What most thoughtful people are saying is that it doesn’t help the team to do that and that if you really cared about the team you wouldn’t leave with the game on the line. Plus, it simply is an embarrassment to the Dawg Nation to do it on national tv. It makes us look like quitters as fans.

K-Town Dawg, I do not care how many Brinks trucks you bring. Adams will not allow a DC to make more money than he does. Tenn, LSU, Bama and Fl. all pay their DC’s around 1 million a year and that will not happen at UGA as long as Adams is President. Now who is going to come from the NFL or BCS conference and make 40% less than their peers?

BTW: The D has not been the problem for the last three weeks. Turnovers and poor kick coverage was the problem last night.

As the “CEO” of the football program he is in charge of its direction, the day-to-day activities fall to the assistants. I feel like the team is very unprepared week to week and has a habit of not making halftime adjustments. The lack of improvement over the season is a result of his assistants not getting the job done and it is CMR’s job to right the ship.

When a team recruits underachievers it gets what it recruited, coaching is not the issue.

That has to be one of the most ignorant statements I’ve read. Are you serious??!! So these kids that we recruit had success and acheived in pop warner, middle school, and high school, and all of a sudden they stop growing and in some cases actually regress, but it falls on the players and not the coaches??

Sir, please get your head out of the sand, it’s most definitely the COACHING and NOT the players!!!!

Just a general question to the BVG fan base:

If BVG is so great, how did he tank the Georgia Southern program in a year?
How did the Falcons D get torched by the Cardinals last year in the playoffs?
And why is this years Falcons D so horrible?

The answer: BVG is a good but not great coach, whose numbers were inflated by having an over abundance of NFL talent on a college team recruited by Donnan.

Do we need some changes, maybe, but I do not see who under the circumstances I described above with President Adams. Adams is not going to allow us to hire a DC or OC making more money than he makes. So what do we do?

Also, Do you not think it is a little strange that we have not been able to recruit the same mean, nasty, marginal players on teh defensive side of the ball since Adams ran off Dooley? (Same time BVG left). When is the last time Adams let us get a player from Hargrave or GMA? They all go to Bama and other places now. I wonder why? CWM is running the exact same D as BVG ran and nor having the same results. I wonder if that is because we do not get the same type players (Esp at LB).

With the talent Uga has at the skill positions coming back and young talented DBs (Rambo, smith,Boykin,Cummings,Ogltree, Jakar hamilton and maybe Elam), not to mention Aaron murray, who is an instant upgrade over Cox, Uga will WIN the SEC East next year easily. Conellius washinton and Justin Houston will be a dominant pair next year with Montez Robinson and Dobbs backing them up..Samuel will be a force on Defense and Gillard,Christian Robinson and Marcus Dotwin will be upgrades at LB.The OL will be a veteran line next year. Richt will fire Bobo and Martinez(he has no choice)..Reshad Jones, Byron Evans, Prince Miller and the most overated Lb in the SEC Curran will all be gone next year. Those 4 def players have cost UGA many games and will be replaced by better players. UGA offense will be awesome next year even with a freshman QB.

Picture this if Richt hires an OC that runs the spread,
QB- Murray
Rb- Ealey,King,
Wr- Green, King, Troupe, Wooten(expect Marlon Brown and Derrick Rodjers in the mix also)
Te- Orson charles, Bruce Figgins, White, Lynch

That was certainly an ugly and painful series of meltdowns. There really was some very good work on the field, but it was all undone by the turnovers. This one is on Cox, who is what he is, a talented but unsteady QB. He played like a sophomore this year, but of course, he isn’t.

This team had Kentucky beat and they had LSU beat. But the way they lost those games and folded up versus Tennessee and got outclassed by Florida is clearly troubling. Injuries and bad character have really nailed this team the past two-three years, on the o-line, d-line, linebacker, and in the secondary, and this year at running back. A lot of what should have been quality senior leadership left school early, and I don’t just mean Moreno and Stafford. Sturdivant getting hurt again robbed the o-line of a leader. Cox was willing but just not experienced enough to lead the team through the tough moments. Too many underclassmen racking up penalty after penalty, game after game. Too many undisciplined and inexperienced players in positions of leadership.

This can turn around. Richt is still Richt, with a resume of SEC East titles. He knows what to do, now he needs to get to work repairing the roster and re-establishing the formula that has served him well in the past. Start by focusing on toughness in the trenches, linebacker, and safety, areas that have been far too soft the past two seasons. Another year of experience on all these young players this year will help, but Richt has to teach them how to win.

Yeah, most fans have incurable hope, that’s the nature of ‘em. It takes them awhile to adjust to reality. As Bill has pointed out the Dawgs have played consistently poorly during the course of the year. I guess you always hope that there will be a turn around but in this case there hasn’t.

This difference is we had the first player picked in the draft and the first RB taken to cover up the mistakes. We now have average college QB and a Freshman/Sophomore combo that is still learning to play the game.

The D did not lose last nights game. Turnovers and poor KO coverage.
Every week it has been a different break down and a lot of that is due to inexperience at different positions. Bottom line is we are having a rebuilding year and have to suffer through it. The ship is not sinking and we do not have to throw all the crew overboard.

How cute when all the UGA rednecks opine with such enthusiastic certainty the infinite reasons for their great big ole sorry wonderless season!! And what’s even more preciously cute is their adorable credulity in believing they know with ultimate precision exactly what the little ole matter is. Why I’ve been filled with just utter delight so many times this season enjoying their overdone seriousness over a petty little thing like a football season. It makes me just want to hug those poor little critters for trying so utterly hard to figure out a simple little matter. Why it would just go and spoil everything if it got out that their pitiful little team was just plain old sorry. And I do not know what I would do to lose such enjoyment. Now don’t nobody in this blog go an spoil this thing. They’re entirely too cute and this is way too fun! Adieu !!

If someone takes one back every once in a while then they earned it. To continuously give the opposition 50 or 60 yard fields is madness I tell you, madness! If the dadgum coverage is so bad that we’re gonna give up a long one every game, then FIRE somebody now! I mean, COME ON MANN!

The talent we supposedly have is under performing and not being coached up and the Administration at UGA will support Richt because the dollars keep pouring in. Richt will not get fired and in 2012 he will finally be forced out after two more seasons like this one, four straight losses to Tech, six straight losses to Florida, at least 3 to 4 losses to Tennessee, he will be done!

2010 Outlook from a Sane fan

QB- Should be better or at least as good. Cox has looked great at times but INT has cost UGA in several Games

RB – Definitely better. We went into this year with hardly any experience at TB. Now, we have Ealey and it looks like CK is finally starting to come around.

WR- Definitely better. i think this could be the best WR corp in the country.. AJ the best, RW is a definite playmaker, TK is good and MB should be good next year and IT is solid.

OL – Definitely better, all 5 starters return

DE- Definitely better Justin Houston has really come on and Montez Robinson should be a stud

DT- Probrably not as good with Atkins, Weston and Owens gone…Abry Jones and Tyson have great potential

LB- Def. better if Curran returns..

CB- Definitely better..Branden Smith should be a stud

S- Definite upgrade. i think Rambo will be a star.

Coaching

HC- CMR will be much better and hungrier next year. I guarantee it.

OC- Bobo will have alot of talent but will need to call plays better. actually see CMR taking over.

DC – CWM will be gone. Definite Upgrade.

Offseason conditioning- you gotta believe this will be the most brutal offseason yet. This season has been an embarrassment to CMR.

Motivation- After hearing all the insults from the bandwagon and fairweather fans. UGA will be well motivated for 2010

Schedule- Much easier..Oklahoma State LSU, Arizona State, TT are replaced by Lousiana Monroe, Mississippi State, Idaho State and Colorado. Florida will be down- Losing Tebow , Spikes and about 7 juniors. Tennessee will be down too..Lose entire offensive line, Hardesty, Crompton and some defensive players. GT will probrably be the only team that will be as good if not better next year.

Gary Barnett was pressured resign from Colorado after 7-5 season. He had won 4 1st place North division titles along with Big 12 conference champions. Colorado has gone 2-10 6-7 5-7 and 3-8

Nebraska – Fired Frank Solich after 9-3 season after he had been in NC game..His win totals were 9,10,12,11,7,9 Record after Solich left. 5-6 8-4 5-7 9-5…never even sniffed playing in NC or Big 12 title game

Actually, CMR salary ranks fifth in the Sec with Saban, Meyer, Miles, Petrino all above him. So , Our head coach is in the middle of the pack and our assistants are paid less than average in the SEC. SO , WE are getting what we are paying for.

TD,

People forget that there are always unintended consequences to every action. They think that firing CMR and the staff would solve all of the Turnovers, penalties, youthful mistakes. They don’t think about how the returning players would react. Those players signed to come to UGA to play under Richt and they would feel cheated. Also, they don’t think about all those recruiting contacts that CMR and his staff have cultivated in 9 years drying up. The new coach would have to come in and start from scratch. With CMR , You can always pencil in a top 10 class. With a new coach, chances are that he won’t be as good.

With CMR gone, Recruiting would suffer and players would transfer. Then, a new offensive system would be implemented and the players would have to get used to the new coaches. It would be an ugly 3-4 year period.

People look at what CPJ has done at Tech. Well folks that’s not the norm. First of all, GT plays in a much weaker conference and Secondly, A coach like PJ doesn’t come around everyday.

I doubt if many of the Dawg players read the blogs, but the newspapers may be another thing. Frankly, with 6 more editions of the AJC before Saturday night’s game, I just hope that they don’t to continue to churn out more bulletin board material for the UGA coaches to tack like we have seen in articles and columns since last night. And former AJC columnist Terence Moore ridiculed the Dawgs’ chances a few minutes ago on Channel 2’s Sports Zone. Of course, he said Tech would win last year, and he reminded everyone that he said back in early Sept. that UGA would lose 4-5 games and one of them would be to Tech—again. Can we break with these two words regarding the UGA football team for a while?

Let’s be hopeful that Chance Veazy will walk again and recover from a devastating injury not his fault.

Let’s be thankful some of these seniors will never play again at Sanford Stadium (even though they did their best).

Let’s be hopeful someone at UGA wises up and decides not to go to a bowl game this year. Just because you are eligible doesn’t mean you have to go. Other SEC teams can go and we split the money anyway. (Remember just because they make spandex in your size doesn’t mean you have to wear it).

Then, we can be thankful that we don’t have to sit and watch us get our backends handed to us but one more time this year!

And don’t even start about I’m not a loyal dog and this and that. I attended every game this year except the Arkansas game and I spend more on UGA athletics that I care to let anyone know. So if you disagree, KMA.

I really think the turning point of this season was the last minute loss to LSU. If we win that game, then i think the Tennessee game is different. It seemed like we were still thinking about the LSU loss when we went to Knoxville and got beat and then our confidence went downhill from there. It’s amazing how a couple of plays can change a year. UGA has the talent and athletes but our confidence is not there After the Tennessee game, the season just started going downhill from there.

Hopeful and Thankful,

Let me clarify just how stupid one of your comments were. You said that UGA should decline a bowl invite. How about this, why don’t you work for the next couple of months and decline the salary that your boss pays you.

These players work their butts off all year. They go thru grueling weight lifting and practice sessions with injuries and aches and pains. The only reward that they get is at the end of the season is to go to a bowl game. It doesn’t matter which bowl or where it’s at it’s a reward and they should partake in it.

Your comments just show how shallow, selfish and immature and also stupid you are.

branden smith is only bad as kick returns because he is a freshman anxious to make plays for a terrible football team. he’s looking to score everytime, which is a good thing, just like washaun. once they get a little older, the anxious nature to score will wear off and we can hold on to the ball. Does anyone else ever wonder if CMR is not being put at a disadvantage by his strong religious convictions in regards to this 20 hour practice rule? And I AM NOT suggesting that his religion is in any way a bad thing for our program. I just can’t see cutthroats like Meyer, Saban, Kiffin, Spurrier, Myles, and virtually every other coach in our conference not engaging in some tactics that might be considered by some to be somewhat dishonest or underhanded to get around or cheat that rule.
I may just be being paranoid. Just a thought.

Yeah cantondawg,

You are right. I’ve been to Shreveport with the team. We all had a great time! Believe me, they don’t really want to be embarrassed and go to Shreveport. Now, what they will say for the media is of course different.

The ONLY benefit in going to Shreveport is the extra practice time the team will get pointing to next year and that is the ONLY consideration.

As for your name calling, I am not shallow, certainly not stupid, and definitely not immature. My above comments cannot be construed as selfish. I have gone to great lengths to support this team with my presence, my encouragement, and my money. That’s exactly why I have the right to offer my opinion. No one questions the players’ efforts, but they are definitely NOT being correctly directed, or otherwise. I do not, unfortunately, claim to have all the answers. However, I do know that major changes need to be made and if you do not recognize that simple fact, then you are the one who is stupid.

The good doctor here thinks that CMR is like that guy sitting in the cube next to you. He needs a job change, it’s boring. He comes to the same job everyday, more out of habit than wanting to be there. He starts taking extended lunches, longer breaks, leaving early, coming in late, starts dialing it in. Why doesn’t the guy just quit, well the money’s good, family is acclimated, but dang something just isn’t there. He can’t quit, because the money is too good, and he probably will never get a job like this again. But, if they get rid of me, then I’ll get a buy-out and just maybe, Ol’ Bobby will call it quits, or I’ll have a few years of cash stream coming in and heck, Bobby is getting up there in age and can’t live forever. Besides, “THEY LOVE ME AT FSU.” Doctor OUT

As my handle shows, I am not a UGA fan but I want to stick up for Joe Cox and for his accomplishments. While he has not been the talent that his predecessor was, he shows loyalty, determination, and grace-under-fire that is a compliment to himself, his family and the University of Georgia. He stuck around for five years holding the clipboard for Matthew Stafford. When he did get a chznce to play, he played with as much grit and guts as I have ever seen on a football field. He never once blamed anyone else for his mistakes. While his team this year had many problems and trials, Joe Cox came out the winner. My heart was breaking for his parents Saturday night as they watched their son suffer a defeat that many will say was his fault. I am sure they heard him called things that any parent would be crushed at. Football is a team sport and wile he was part of that team, he was not entirely to blame. The sting of this year will eventually go away but one thing will not. He will graduate with a degree from a great institution and can always be proud of the lifelong relationships and life examples he gained at the UGA.

You are an idiot. How can you blame the players for penalties and turnovers? It’s coaching. And who recruits the players anyway? This ain’t the NFL where there’s a GM.

Mark Richt’s teams have a problem with turnovers, penalties, and execution in general, but not Les Miles’s, Nick Saban’s, Lane Kiffin’s, Urban Meyer’s, Paul Johnson’s (all coaches who beat UGA), and a bunch of other coaches (TCU, Cincy, Boise State).

Mark Richt does less with more than any other coach in America.

Mark Richt is a liar.

On the Mark Richt show, he said GA had “nearly 500 yards of offense.” You say they had 427. Quite a difference.

That brand of lying, or baseless optimism, or stretching the truth, or whatever, is exactly the attitude that has kept Mark Richt from a serious look in the mirror, from manning up and taking responsibility for once, for showing even the smallest smidgen of passion about his job. Things are always rosier to Mark Richt than to everyone else. We always just had bad luck, or lost despite “playing so well” or winning the statistics battle.

I puke up on that attitude.

Man up and look in the mirror. The coaches have let us all down. Starting with the guy at the top.

Again, another blog that refers to these Bulldogs as “talented.” Where is the talent? They are not fast, physically imposing or skillful. To say that UGA is loaded with talent, and it’s only a matter of tweaking the coaching staff is delusional. BETTER PLAYERS ARE NEEDED!

I see a very young team on the field making mistakes that young players make. I noticed that just about every play on Saturday, it was either a soph or a freshman making the plays. That makes me excited about the next few years but that depends on how the qb position pans out. I do believe that changes need to be made with the coaching staff. CMR most definitely should stay, but CWM needs to go. He seems to have complete tunnel vision on defense and can’t make adjustments that need to be made. Something has to be done about that. The play calling on offense is offensive and predictable most of the time. Changes need to be made.

Old School – Kevin Butler needs to get on his own son about laughing on the sidelines after we had a punt blocked. The face mask penalty was not a bad play though because if we had not got the first down, we would have gotten to punt again. I wonder if Drew did it on purpose? We do need some of the old school tactics back, we miss a Van Gorder or anybody that will get in the face and let a kid know that is not okay to be where we are at.

Dog Nashun, Ya’ll are in such a tizzy over one bad year. Take the whipping your likely to get next week and relax. Are the dogs ever down long? Not just no, but hell no. Bad year, Cox did not improve, the great Tail Back U, no so this year. That kid that stiffed GAC (Caleb King) in his senior year, not working out so good. Next year or 2011, your back in the mix. Thats in the mix with other great teams like Fla and Bama. It’s just a game. The older I get, the more I enjoy the wins and quicker I get over the ones we don’t.

This goes beyond this year. The problem is that there has been no improvement in this team for 24 months. From the end of 2007 to now we have seen the following:

1) Poor tackling
2) little defensive line pressure; most times non-existent
3) Wide open recievers, blown coverage ( Actually this one more than two years)
4) Safeties so far out of position as to not be in camera shot on a pass play ( actually more than two years)
5) The worse kick coverage in the NCAA.Period
6) Terrible offensive play calling
7) Penalities….to lead the NCAA
8) Turnovers….to lead the SEC and probably close to leading the NCAA.
9) Coaching excuses galor.

So if I boo…excuse me. After two years of this crap, I have earned the right to boo and complain.

It is clear that some coaches on this staff have to go. Georgia should not be a training ground for 1st time Defensive Cord., first time running back coaches, first time recieving coaches, and first time offensive cord., and QB coaches. This should be were talent comes, not a football teaching school with painful on the job training for coaches.

The school deserves better, the fans deserve better, the players deserve better.

Coaching..Coaching..Coaching – We are one of the worst penalized teams in football, Have been inconsistent from week to week on both offense and defense, special teams will make you hold your chest, and our QB makes bad decisions under pressure. MR should have started Aaron after the loss. I know hes a red shirt but really how long is he going to stay? We will start this mess all over again next year as he will not have the touches. Bad call from our coaching staff.

I wouldn’t put it as harshly as you, but I kinda hear where you’re coming from. I’d like to see CMR come out with a Tebow-like apology. Claim responsibility for this mess coach. I don’t wanna hear anymore insinuating that it’s the players fault. CMR created this kind of laccadaisical, soft culture towards football up there and he needs to take responsibility for it and change it. There MUST be significant improvement next year.

The problem is very simple: coaching. Richt is not in the same league with coaches like Meyer, Sabin, and Spurrier. And part of his problem is that he recruits players with no principles, character, or self-discipline. That adds up to rap sheets for many players and a poor won-loss record.

Richt has to go. Until UGA gets a real coach, there will be no SEC championships or BCS bowls.

Too much emotional involvement by individuals who have low self esteem and try to get it by what the team they are a fan of does in the game. If your are one of these individuals you need to get more satisfaction out of you own life and you then won’t need to be so immature about a game .Time to grow up.

No more excuses please. “We can’t stands no more”!

As poorly as the defense has played or better yet been coached to play this year, our offense has been worse. Extremely poor play calling, poor QB execution, poor run blocking or at least scheme, and just plain pitiful. Bobo as an OC at this point of his career is completely misguided. Keeping Willie last year was completely misguided, which leads to my point that it is time for CMR, AD Evans, and Pres. M Adams to step up and take responsibilty and to be accountable for what is going on with UGA football.

CMR looks worn out, tired, and dejected. He doesn’t appear to have the desire, determination, and dedication that a SEC head coach needs. We saw some of this last year and it has become even clearer this year that the drive is gone. Sometimes being a great leader or boss, you have to make tough decisions that might not make you feel good. It is that time Mr Evans and Dr Adams to make that change. We have no problem raising money. If fact we raised more than any school’s athletic dept in the country. Identify the person UGA needs to lead the program for the next 10, 15, 20 years, no matter who or where that person is, and make a deal that will get him hear!!!! If not the next stat will be Ky has not beat an eastern SEC team since 1977 except Vandy (and now they can say Vandy and UGA) because that is where we are headed. Anyway you slice it, with a change or without, we are going to loose recruits this year and next, but bring in the right person and things will change quickly for us…. and I mean Saben or someone of that status.

The bottom line is changes have to be made. If it is Mark Richt so be it. Coach Martinez and Coach Bobo must go. The alumni and fans pay for and deserve better than what is presently being displayed. Discipline is non existant and there is no enthusiam from both the coaches and the players. Changes are coming but will they be to late to help a once proud football program. I hope not but all signs are pointing that way. Make changes not excuses.

Running game was completely shut down in the second half. What did Kentucky do to adjust and why couldn’t we overcome it?

Kickoff coverage was pathetic AGAIN. Our D has been inconsistent, but the most consistently BAD aspect of our game all season has been kickoff coverage. It is REALLY disappointing that the coaches can’t fix such a fundamental aspect of the game over the course of a whole season. There are, perhaps, plausible excuses for some of the other disappointments this season, such as youth or inexperience or personnel problems. But there is NO excuse for not covering kicks.
