If you can’t put Kentucky away, that’s just sad

Joe Cox leaves the field after his second awful interception. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

Joe Cox leaves the field after his second awful interception. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

Wow, that was two really ugly quarters of football Georgia played in the second half Saturday night.

With the apparent focus of a 3-year-old child, the Dogs squandered a 20-6 halftime lead by turning the ball over four times.

How pathetic was it? When the Dogs got the ball back at midfield with just under 2 minutes left in order to tie up the game and Joe Cox proceeded to throw an interception on the very first play, nobody seemed surprised.

Which was uglier, his first interception or that second one? How’s that for a discussion point?

Longtime blog commenter Cuz, with whom I watched the game, summed it up pretty well when he said the second half was like a “greatest hits” of all the bad plays Mark Richt’s 2009 team has committed. Make that “greatest hurts.”

Special teams? Pretty awful, from Branden Smith’s fumble of the opening kickoff of the second half to the fact that Richt and Co. were so scared of giving up a long kickoff return that they routinely gave Kentucky the ball near midfield through a series of poorly covered pooch and squib kicks.

The offense? In the second half they acted like the ball was a hot potato. And when Kentucky made halftime adjustments to stuff the Dogs’ running game, Georgia seemed to be floundering. The Dogs had no sustained drive in the second half, with the only scoring drive consisting of two long passes. What happened to Orson Charles in the second half?

And while the defense was put in difficult short-field situations by the lousy kickoffs and offensive turnovers, the tackling at times was just horrendous. And on that dump screen pass that Kentucky turned into a long run down the sideline for a touchdown to tie the game at 27-27, Willie Martinez’s defense looked absolutely flat-footed.

It’s unfortunately been a hallmark of Richt teams that they have a tough time handling success, holding a lead and putting a team away. And that was even true with teams that were much more talented than this group.

There was plenty of blame to go around, but the bottom line is that this is a very poorly coached group of unmotivated players.

Remember the darkest days of the Goff and Donnan eras? It was that bad.

I cannot believe what a disappointment Georgia football has become. I commend the players for trying as hard as they have, especially the seniors. The coaches should be ashamed of themselves. Mark Richt is held accountable for everyone else, and Willie Martinez has no business coaching college football. How do you blow a 20-6 lead? Georgia did not show up for the second half and I am going to start drinking heavily.

Note to Mark Richt
Whatever the halftime speech that you gave your team was, don’t do that anymore. I am guessing it went something like this:

“Alright fellers, I guess this game is over. Let’s start thinking about Georgia Tech. I sure could go for some tacos. How about you?”

Two years of horrible special teams, huge penalties, and large negative turnover margins make me ill too. Richt has to do something to dramatically change the nature of the team. Firing Fabris is a necessary first step. Firing CWM is probably the second step, though you can’t really put the blame for this one on his shoulders. But he deserves blame for most of the last two years (along with Fabris).

So hopefully the new DC can eliminate the soft defense that can’t force turnovers. Hopefully the new special teams coach can take advantage of the best kicker tandem in football and help out the D by helping us win the field position battle…

That being said, the new coordinators aren’t going to stop the boneheaded fumbles and penalties. That is a symptom of a lack of discipline, and CMR has to find the solution. Dammit. And we can’t fire him… Heck, I think his winning pct is still better than Dooleys, even after this abomination of a season.

It’s one thing to lose to a Florida/LSU/OK State, even Tenn. But to lose like this. In Sanford. Dammit.

I said this earlier in the year and I’ll say it again. Richt has peaked. It’s back to square one, Dawgnation. Next year will see another four losses or more and it will be time to get a new coaching staff. I wish it didn’t have to end this way, but let’s face facts here. We thought we were heading into elite status back in ‘08. It didn’t happen and will not happen with Richt. Make up your minds: stay with Richt and keep the roller coaster seasons, or clean house and try to find the next winner.

Bill….I think the players came out in the second half feeling like they had the game under control.

The coaching on kickoff teams had probably the most devastating effect on this game. Stupid pooch kicks….C’MON. We have one of the best legs on a kicker in the nation. And hell, if we can’t tackle and block effectively on a DAMN kickoff then obviously it’s a coaching problem.

Joe Cox was being, well….Joe Cox. Inconsistent. When UK evened the game up, he was trying to do too much. Lost focus. I don’t think that’s the coaches problem….

That boneheaded fumble at the goalline…we’re INCHES away!!! Just QB sneak the DAMN ball!!!

I have not been so very much P.O’ed after a game. The UT game if felt we just we’re handled but there is NO EXCUSE as to why we lost this game. NO EXCUSE. Especially upset about the kickoff teams

People are finally waking up to the truth. How can any of you continue to excuse Mark Richt’s loyalty to Willie Martinez? Saban and Meyer would have jettisoned Martinez years ago (truthfully they would have never hired his inept a$$ in the first place, but that’s another topic).

Last year, after the season, Richt said that reviewing Martinez’s performance was not even on the table for discussion. Are you kidding me? He should have been canned years ago. At the very least, Richt could have said something to the effect of the program always striving to be the best and that all facets should be currently under review. Yet Martinez, who gave up 31 to Bama at the half, 49 to Florida (a little less, I guess, since there were defensive scores, but the point is the same), and 45 to Tech (including 26 in one quarter!) didn’t even merit a review!

It is obvious that the Emperor has no clothes. Mark Richt was successful early in his tenure because:

1. Ron Zook was at Florida (and even then, Richt went 1-2 against that moron). The fact that we lost to Florida in 2002 and 2003 was a complete disgrace.

2. Tennessee was in decline

3. Saban had just gotten the LSU juggernaut going, but it wasn’t yet in full steam (it would be starting in 2003)

4. Most importantly, he had natural born leaders on the field (i.e., Greene and Pollack) and a fiery animal and defensive genius in Brian Van Gorder, whose fire picked up the slack for what Richt lacked. BVG, DG, and DP made sure that the team had discipline and fire. Mark Richt accomplishes no such thing. How many years running have we been hearing about cleaning up the penalties? How many games do we have to watch our defenders look absolutely clueless out there? How many more games do we have to lose in such ugly fashion? What happened to the days of losing in Death Valley to LSU on a late TD in a very well played game (2003)? Now, when we lose, all hell breaks loose, and it’s a complete disaster.

WVU in 2006 Sugar Bowl
UT in 2006
UT in 2007
Bama in 2008
UF in 2008
GT in 2008
UT in 2009
UF in 2009
UK in 2009

These losses were complete and utter disasters. And that’s ignoring the defensive meltdowns in games we actually won (e.g., LSU in 2008). Those of you who don’t see these things just aren’t paying attention, plain and simple.

Now that Richt has no leaders on the team and has surrounded himself with absolute boobs as assistants, the Emperor has been exposed.

Mark Richt is a very good man. He represents the university well. But you blind homers who overlook his blind loyalty to Willie Martinez and overlook the complete and utter lack of discipline on this team and just say something moronic like “we’re just having a down year,” you just aren’t looking at the entire picture. He is not fit to be a head coach. Period. End of story.

The UGA coaches have zero emotional control over their football team. Exhibit A: tonight’s loss. Exhibit B: all the other losses and near misses. Ask yourself, when was the last time UGA looked great against a really smart coaching staff. Forget talent, and just try to recall when we last had a dominating performance against someone who is currently considered a brilliant coach. If you can find one example, I challenge you to find another….and no, crickets aren’t an NCAA mascot. Try again.

you are not intelligent enough to argue with but let me try to make you see past your stupid hatred

First: Tech’s defense is about as bad as UGA’s and the Dawgs WILL score plenty on tech so there is a chance for UGA to upset tech

2nd: UGA has made the second most money of any program in the country over the past 10 years,
they are #2 in total team apparal sales,
they have the 5th biggest on campus stadium in the country,
on national TV every week,
in the best conference (SEC),
have WON the second most games of ANY team in thountry over the past 8 years,
UGA is in one of the best recruiting states in the country and are top 5 in recruiting every year
multiple players going to the NFL
They have won 2 SEC titles and played for 3 in 8 years
have multiple top 10 and top 5 finishes

So yes my friend, UGA is one of the top 5 to 7 programs and jobs in the country

”Football is one of our great American games. It is the duty and responsibility of each of us to see that it is kept in its proper perspective, and that it is protected. We should see that it is used to attain the objectives that mean so much to our way of life.
We feel that the spectator can be most influential and instrumental in helping to achieve these objectives, if he will develop the right attitudes. May we suggest a few?
First, and foremost among these attitudes that must be developed, is the realization that in football there must be a winner and a loser (excepting the occasional tie). The fan who recognizes this principle gets a great deal more enjoyment from the game than one who becomes irritated, aggravated, and rambunctious when “his” team loses. We would never minimize the importance of winning, but it is very unfair to the coach, the player, and the school when the fan forgets it is impossible to “repudiate the law of mathematics”–i.e., there must be a winner and a loser.
It is important that each of us develop the art of appreciating great plays made by the opposition. We should always give our opponents credit, rather than criticize our team when the opposition makes a great play. We believe perfection in the execution of a great play in football is to be admired and appreciated, just as we appreciate and admire the work of a great artist in any field.
The spectator should remember the football players are just human beings. They perform at times under great pressure, and they, as all other earthly inhabitants, are likely to make mistakes. It behooves all of us to remember, “To err is human, to forgive, divine.”
Finally, we should always keep uppermost in mind that football, with all its glamour, glitter, thrills and chills, plus everything that makes it great, has one thing more important than all of these combined–that is, the boy who plays it.”

coach smith – I would agree Richt came out of the gate strong – with Donnans players. And I will also agree that UGA certainly can generate the ad/merchandise revenue – you only have to walk down the streets of small town Georgia as proof. But as a GT fan, I could care less how much money my athletic department is generating – it’s like Lou Holtz (who I can’t really stand either) once said – fans don’t come to watch their teams play, they come to watch their teams win.
The fact is that Richt is a lousy coach and that was completely evident in his very early, be they successful years. Even back then, his clock management was as bad as I’ve ever seen – remember the Auburn loss at home?

But while UGA may have been a top 5-7 job 8 years ago, it’s simply not anymore. LIke I said, you barely make the top 5 in your own conference. Would you seriously put UGA over FL, AL, TN, and LSU – all of whom by the way have larger stadiums, larger budgets and more wins this year – hey, we may have 4 national championships in the last 100 years, but does anyone care? It’s about about what have you done for me lately.

Coach Smith – I agree, UGA was preseason #1 and probably should have been with all those recruits. So since you don’t think I know anything, why don’t you tell me what’s going on at UGA. And don’t tell me it’s Willie D – he might be part fo the problem, but he’s not that only problem. It’s Richt. All his teams are undisciplined and always have been, on and off the field. Have you seen coach Johnson on the gameday and on the sideline? Who do you think demands the respect of his players more – Richt or Johnson? I don’t think I’ve ever seen Richt get upset on gameday. I saw Johnson about take a kids head off for a false start against wake forest! I would hate to see a great coach in Athens. As fans, many of the most passionate among us have a tendency to look at an ugly loss such as the Kentucky game and think the sky is falling. Because of that I try not to get too carried away with wanting to see coaching heads roll in the off-season, etc. But I have to say, this loss has me very concerned about the direction of the program. Losses like this hurt fan enthusiasm and lead to empty seats. They can cause a team to lose faith in the coaching staff, similar to what happened to Coach Donnan, and when that happens the wheels start to come off quickly. If Richt makes changes to the coaching staff and if they in turn put together another highly-regarded recruiting class I will feel better that perhaps this season was a rebuilding year, an aberration. But those are big ifs as this point.

I am a BAMA fan. I am not trying to be funny or rub anything in, but I feel that CMR worst coaching decisions was allowing you guys to wear those black uniforms last year against BAMA. Even though many of you guys did not know it, a coach knows when his team is not physically on the same level as another team. in that case you have to coach them a little different. You dont coach them up the same that game, throw some black jerseys on and make them think they are ready to win. That is the night that UGA football lost a lot more than a game. Some may disagree, but it took something out of CMR and the whole team.

Willie was not the problem in this game. He did not fumble the ball on the one yard line nor did he throw two interceptions. Willie may be the favorite whippin post, but he has company.

I think Herschel Talker posted the best comments other than Bill’s analysis about what is wrong with the UGA program. People can’t fix problems until they ADMIT they have one. I have been a UGA fan since the Dooley era. But right now, Temple & Navy get more votes to the Top 25 polls than UGA! Who in their right sane mind thinks that FACT is acceptable? Anyone ready to say colleges like that recruit better players than UGA? So it must be Coaching! It’s great to support your team win or loose, but blind denial of the obvious problems will surely mean supporting more losses that wins.
How many folks want next year to look like this year, same coaching staff & philosophy? Well, if you keep doing what you have been doing, you WILL keep getting what you have been getting. Just wait and see if that is not true. Stay on this course, and I guarantee we all will be writing the same things this time next year after another senseless season of wasteful losses.

Yep Kentucky played great. 127 yards rushing and 138 passing. Georgia in a loss had 195 yards rushing and 292 passoing. I give Kentucky the win and admit Cobb is a good player. But we shot ourselves in the foot so often we had to reload.

And Rob…
And in two lines you pointed out why so many people are taking so much joy watching the freefall in Athens and the torment resulting in UGA fans. They are never ever humbled or contrite. Cobb and Locke are very good players. Even when superior teams like Florida and Alabama pound the stew out of you, you still talk garbage… The Tech thing I understand a bit, they were lost for a very long time. But goodness, they are not looking ahead to Clemson, they have had Nov. 28th circled on the calendar and are hitching their pants a little tighter for Saturday night with “their high school offense.” Somebody put this way to me, you know the wife or girlfriend that may not be the most beautiful woman, but she is the best person you’ll ever meet? Everybody keeps running after the beauty queen who always ignores you, demeans you, uses you, or just lets you down… Well that is the University of Georgia, it looks great on paper or on your wall; but when you need something to support you, hold you up, lift your spirit, that is what you want!!! Think about that, even though it i just a game, that is so true…

BuLLdawg

November 22nd, 2009

So, what would you say we need the most ?

Obviously, the crowds at Sanford Stadium think we need a new Offensive Coordinator. We haven’t had one since Coach Richt gave up calling the plays, calling himself CEO now.

Clearly, the world knows that Willie Martinez is surely gone after 2 more games. Goodbye to that soft zone crap. Back to playing football on defense for UGA.

We haven’t taught our Quarterbacks how to value the football. Tonight, yet again, we sling the football from the 3-yard line at a back at most 8 inches away. And, after calling 3 timeouts and having the Kentucky running back run out of bounds with 2 minutes to go in the game losing by a score, we throw the football directly to the Kentucky player standing right there in clear view with 2 minutes left and us at mid-field.

We haven’t had a running back, and didn’t recruit one this last recruiting class either. We yanked the redshirt off Washaun Ealey after half the season was already lost. We have no idea who our starting tailback is. We haven’t known all season. We just sit there and put one in then another, then another, then scrap all them and yank the redshirt off another, and then basically give the starting tailback job back to the guy we gave it to to begin with. Make no doubts about this, Washaun Ealey fumble at the goal line cost us the Kentucky game. And, his 55-yard scamper was called back on not 1 but 2 penalties, and should have been 3 penalties.

Ken Malcome of Decatur. That is the only running back we have recruited for next season, either. Only the 20th best player in the state and only the 24th best running back. The entire Top 25 all recruited a better running back then Ken Malcome. Don’t we need a top running back ? Is Ken Malcome really it ? 4.6 in the 40-yard dash, this guy has no speed folks. We’ve got 5 of them now like that at tailback.

BuLLdawg

November 22nd, 2009
7:07 am

That is the ONLY running back we have recruited for next season. God Almighty Above.

We have zero cover guys in our secondary, coached by Willie Martinez himself. Well, maybe Rambo, but we can’t figure it out who our good players are, and keep him on the sidelines anyway.

I would say that it is patently obvious that we need Offensive Linemen. The ones we have now are NOT getting the job done. They jump off-sides on every snap count, like they don’t know what the snap count is. They cannot block for the pass, so instead of having a tailback who is a tailback, our tailback has to be a blocker instead first or he can’t get on the damn field. And, we haven’t blocked one play all season long for a running play. We are Number 100 at running the ball. There are 100 teams in America better at blocking for the run than we are.

2, so we have recruited exactly 2 Offensive Linemen.

We have 2 Tight Ends on the entire roster. 2. Unless you want to try to tell me that Aron White is a Tight End, who tonight dropped every pass again thrown directly to him.

The play calls are not to get the ball to our Tight Ends anyway. Even with no AJ Green, we seemingly prefer to throw the football to our Opponents as Interceptions. We have no clue on play calls. 3rd and long escapes us.

So, have we recruited 1 single solitary Tight End ? Uh, no sir.

2 who will be Sophomores next season, and no other Tight End, and we have bothered to recruit none. Idiot “coaching staff.”

We have 2 Fullbacks who are both juniors next year, and none others on the roster. So, you would think we have recruited at least 1 Fullback right ? Wrong. You are wrong to think that too.

Tell me how great this damned “coaching staff” of Coach Richt’s really is please ?

Who coaches the kickoff team ?

No one. We gave Kentucky the ball at mid-field all day long. Finally, it cost us.

Who coaches the punt team ?

We cannot cover punts or kickoffs and have not in years and years.

Who are the wide receivers on this team ? Go ahead, and tell me what a great coaching job this “coaching staff” has done with AJ Green, who is GONE after his sophomore year. We got to see him a year and a half. That’s it.

We don’t have another wide receiver.

If we gave this “coaching staff” one, they would not throw the ball to him.

Quarterback. We have no quarterback. Right ? And, the one we will be using, has zero snaps. The one who will back him up has zero snaps. The one backing both of them up has zero snaps. The one behind him has zero snaps.

We don’t teach our quarterbacks a damned thing.

Our best hope for this season is Joe Cox.

B.S.

This “coaching staff” would not recognize a player on the roster, if we gave them one.

And, wouldn’t teach them a damn thing either way.

Defensive Tackle. We have 4 Senior Defensive Tackles this year. Did you know that ? All will probably be great in the NFL. So, who is the Defensive Tackle, just one now mind you is all I am asking for, who replace any one of those 4 ? There isn’t anyone that Rodney Garner has groomed to take over for 4 senior defensive tackles this year.

I am telling you, we are in a lot of trouble and have been in Recruiting.

They rank our recruiting classes in the Top 6 every single year, every single recruiting source, Rivals, Scout and ESPN. But, we have glaring holes on our roster and do the same thing every year when we do have glaring holes, and that is get no one to assist in the obvious needs of this football program.

We are a JOKE OF A FOOTBALL PROGRAM sitting here trying to talk about coming in Number 2 in the AP Poll 2007 getting as reward to play Hawaii for God’s sake; and coming in 3rd in the AP Poll 2002 getting to play 5-Loss Florida State as our reward. 9 years and 17-20 against the Final AP Poll Top 25 with an additional 7 LOSSES to teams who did not end up in the Final AP Poll Top 25.

Don’t give me this last 2 years B.S. you are not happy about.

Why don’t you compare this UGA Football Program with the Ray Goof Era again for me ?

We have plenty of money to have a real “coaching staff.”

At least 1 guy with 1 minute of NFL experience.

We are Number 119 in turnover margin.

We are Number 119 in penalties.

We are Number 90 in Pass Efficiency Defense.

We are Number 67 in Kick-Off Returns.

We are Number 75 in Scoring Defense.

We are Number 73 in Total Offense.

We are a sorry football program in a state which finds only 3 others, Florida, California and Texas with more high school football players who go on to the NFL. There is no excuse for being 17-20 against Final AP Poll Top 25 teams and another 7 LOSSES to teams not in the Final AP Poll Top 25 with this “coaching staff” in the Coach Richt Era.

Tough loss. Next week is not an automatic win for GT. Hopefully we are not overlooking you getting ready for Clemson. With that said, you mutts are so tiring in your endless dribble about how superior the SEC is over the ACC. Perhaps from top to bottom you get the edge, but doubt that you could beat GT, Clemson, VT, U, or NC. Any of the above teams could stay on the field with FL this year (which is way overated), Alabama too for that matter. In any respect enjoy your blue field bowl or whatever lower tier bowl you end up at. We held that honor for too many years and know how it feels, but the tide has turned and we will have a strong program as long as PJ is our coach. See ya Saturday

Spot on NCDAWG, The basic fundamentals for football are not consistently performed by this football organization and the fault clearly lies on it’s coaching staff. Our town’s peewee league are much more consistent on fundamentals than this Georgia team. Plainly, it has a large compliment of talented players who are not properly coached. It is saddening. Fabris, and Martinez need to leave at seasons end. Since we did not stop the option last night against Kentucky’s two backs/runners, I have no hope of our stopping Tech’s much better backs next week. The season is done. I would hope that Mark Richt would refuse a bowl invitation even, if one is offerred. We don’t desire to be in one. With the performance of this season the remainder of coaches need to be placed on performance probation. One year to dramatically improve or else the door. I have to wonder if the QB recruiters at UGA just took a holiday in The Stafford Years, and thought he’d be there forever? We now have a 5th year Senior at QB, and his “back-ups” are Freshmen…Hmmmm… Do I see an alarming GAP there? A huge, gaping hole? No other Senior QB? No Junior QB? What the hell? It is obvious to me, where the fault lies; right on the doorstep of the Coaching Staff.

For anyone who criticizes Joe Cox this morning, and I’m sure the AJC newspaper blogs will be full of them, from the usual “fair-weather fans”, I say:

“Before you feel qualified to condemn young Joe Cox, you need to meet a few criteria:
(1) You must have played real football, in high school or college.
(2) You must have endured some mental pain or anguish, in the process.
(3) You must be a graduate of the University of Georgia.

Unless you meet all those criteria, just shut up.”

Bobo’s excuses are running out.

Bobo’s been saying the recent resurgence in the running game is because the newly re-configured line has been in there for 3 straight games. I’ve been saying that was a skoke screen/excuse because Ga’s had a 4+ ypc RB in every game from Game 1, and had 2 tonight. The problem is Bobo keeps rotating these backs, and he calls too many passing plays. He did it again Sat. His philosophy is too Charlie Weis—too pass-happy. Ealey got a 55 yard EXPLOSION run on his 8th carry. It got called back due to a a penalty. But if you asdd that 55 yard run, to his 77 yards, that’s a 6.94 ypc average. He needs to be the go-to back. Rotating backs cause ball delivery problems, like what happened on the goal line, the RB/QB guys don’t know each other well enough to be able to have that chemistry because Bobo’s been using the triple 3 triangle back rotation system. Take away the 4 turnovers, and Ga wins going away. In 4 out of 5 of our losses Bobo’s offense has committed 3 or 4 turnovers per game. You just won’t win too many games when that happens. Bobo can’t seem to figure out a way to call a 60% run play mix, get a 100 yard rusher, get an RB 25 touches, or even how to call 3 running plays in a row.

The future is still bright for Ga’s offense from a talent standpoint. Our TE Charles looked GREAT in the 1st half. Ealey on that 9 yard carry near the goal-line, and the 55 yard explosion carry looked amazing. Brandon had some great runs. Some of receivers looked sharp. New QB’s that will get to play for 4 years should be fun–really looking forward to Murray–who gives you that run/pass dual option threat. Marlon Brown and AJ Green at WR.

IF Bobo is the OC guy Richt goes with, Richt must take control of the INEPT triple 3 triangle back roation scheme and move to a 1-back system where 1 guy gets 25 touches and you get more explision runs and a 100 yard rusher every game, and the pass-heavy play call mix must be shifted to a run-heavy play call mix like Florida and Alabama run (60% run/ 40% pass).

Tonight’s lsesson against Kentucky:
You can’t pass your way out of trouble. 4 offensive turnovers–AGAIN!

I love the way Joe Cox led his team back 1 yard from going to Overtime. He had some clutch throws at times during the game. Made some bad plays. Didn’t get much play-call help from his coach at the end of the game (I would have liked to have seen a conservative call like a screen pass to Ealey instead of the pass at the end that got picked–you start out a drive with a play that will build some momentum and get the confidence up) and Cox wasn’t really put in a position to win most of the time. But I really like the way Cox didn’t give up. Cox fought hard to the end effort wise. Great effort from Cox. It’s not about wins and losses, it’s about effort, Cox was working his tail off out there to the bitter end. I will remember the long drive from Cox where he led his team at the end of the 4th qrtrt all the way to the 1 yardline.

CMR, you have a horrible collection of coaches. Special Teams: Why are we the only team that thinks that kicking short works? Is the 40 yard line a better place for the other offense to start than the 20?
Willie: You are the WORST in the United States. No other defensive coach has a much talent yet gets them to collectively SUCK as you.
Mike Bobo: You are much more suited for flag football.

UGA players are the least mentally tough players in college football. I guess that falls on CMR who favors coaching friendships more than his job.

Our WR’s looked great tonight. AJ’s not going to the NFL, he needs to bulk up and show he’s not injury prone next year so he can go get the big bucks. No way he comes out and goes to the NFL this year.

2010 Line-Up:
Marlon Brown is the #2 ranked WR in the country. AJ Green to the other side (#1 WR in college football). Ealey running the ball. Charles at tight end. Murray at QB running a Tebow-like Offense as a dual threat to run/pass at QB. These guys are a YOUNG team. Give these offensive guys a couple of years and LOOK OUT!

One of the main problems I’m seeing is that Georgia fans are a little crazy. They had 3 outstanding years when Herschel Walker played for them and all of a sudden think they are an elite program on par with Notre Dame, USC, and Alabama. Take those 3 years out and UGA is a good program, at times an excellent program, but face it, they’re not now nor have they ever been a top program (except for those three years). You can blame (and have) Willie Martinez, Mike Bobo, Mark Richt, Ray Goff, Jan Kemp, UGA V, VI, or VII, but the truth is that UGA has never been great. At times they’ve been very good; others, not so much. Currently, they’re going through a tough patch–made worse because Georgia fans can’t look at a trophy for being pre-season #1 just last year. They point to having the #1 pick in the NFL draft and think they should have done better. But the problem is they have delusions of grandeur that make the current season seem much worse than it really is. Georgia is what it always has been: an above average program with fans that expect too much and then turn on the team when those expectations are not met.

Well, the silver lining in last night’s latest meltdown is that it continues to build pressure for CMR to DO something. 6-6 regular season will mandate that. Sucks that CMR won’t do anything until it’s that bad, but the guy is over his head as a Head Coach. Super nice guy, who can probably identify with Cox. CMR hasn’t done a damn thing to develop a new starting QB for next year, so stand by for another painful season next year. Most of the talent will opt for the NFL as soon as possible, and the merry go round continues. Sure you focus one game at a time, but you’d think a head coach might be planning more than one game at a time. I’d love to see him go. But unfortunately, we’ll have to have at least one more of these painful seasons before that will happen.

Since Stillwater this team and its coaches have been analyzed, dissected and assessed from every possible angle. We’re now at season’s end and I guess most everything that can be said has been.

And, the critiques of coaching decisions, bonehead penalties and turnovers, missed assignments, out of position players, missed tackles, etc. are becoming redundant. There’s nothing left to say.

All those things point to problems much deeper than Xs and Os. This team is not focued, not disciplined and for some reasons I cannot put my finger on, do not have the desire and will to win.

Is it mental toughness…whatever that means? Do they not have personal and team pride? Are they expecting to lose, just waiting for a little adversity so they can fall apart? Are there no ‘leaders’ on the team? Have they lost confience in the coaches? Have they lost confidence in themselves?

Hell, I’m not a shrink and don’t have a clue. But this team has some snakes in its head and an apparent void in its heart. New coaches, schemes, talent will cure some of its ills, but until this team and CMR define what it takes to create a ’soul’ and mindset of a ‘winner’, the prospects look rather bleak.

Herschel Talker, Luke and Cuz among others had great posts. Too many terrible things have happened too often under Richt that never happened before except rarely: getting blown out, losing to Vanderbilt and Kentucky at home, not showing up for big games, gimmicks like black uniforms, penalties, poor fundamentals, can’t beat Florida, poor talent evaluation, poor game management, lack of fire. If you think this year was bad wait till next year. The schedule is not as tough as this year but I count 6 or 7 losses being possible because we can’t beat the teams we used to beat regularly. Let’s say they win 8 or 9. That still means losses to Florida and Tech probably. I think losing to Florida for two decades is what has done in UGA football. That’s why UGA is irrelevant. And now that Tech is on the rise, it’s even worse. If UGA loses to Florida, Tech, Tennessee, South Carolina and Auburn next year, Richt will be gone. He might even quit at this year’s end. I wouldn’t be surprised. He’s given up. Where is a coach like Erk Russell who would bash his bald head against helmets to fire up his team? We don’t need an angry coach we need one who has fire and who inspire players and the fan base. That’s missing now and apparently has been missing for a while.

Tech has to really think they are going to destroy GA now! But they are coached much better than GA and they are probably aware of the fact that if GA does not commit a bunch of dumb penalties, turn the ball over and actually plays anywhere near their potential, they could beat Tech.

On the other hand, with the coaching that is going on at GA right now, you can pretty much count on a bunch of turnovers, dumb kicking game, penalties and bad plays.

What really has to worry GA fans is:
1. Who exactly is going to hire the next DC and OC and S+C coach if indeed there are to be new hires? If it is up to Richt, he will probably go to some place where the guy has not proven he can do the job and hire him in HOPES that he can bring him alone like he thought he could do with the current OC + DC. CMR does NOT make good hires is appears.

2. Worse than # 1 is that CMR is probably only going to be forced to new hires. He won’t want to do it because he needs to, but only because he will want to keep his own job making 15 times what everyone else makes on the coaching staff! This is as bad as the CEO’s that failed our country last year. By keeping CMR GA is rewarding failure. Cut his pay, give ultimatums, demand something from him!

Fire people, yes. Hire new people, yes. But confidence in Richt in hiring is low now. He is too unwilling and has proven he can’t hire the right people.

BTW and just for the record: Based on last year’s meltdown (though we escaped with some wins due to 3 or 4 individual outstanding players), I predicted that GA would go 7-5 at best but only if they beat Tech. Here they are. A prophet I am not, but I got this one right. You could see this season coming 365 days ago when CMR made no changes.

Oh, and one last thing: Definition of an idiot: Doing the same thing again and again expecting a different result. Richt did the same thing this year as last and got the same result – only worse. CMR can’t be trusted to make the hire of new staff. This mediocre rut was coming and everyone could see it. Everyone except CMR. It is time for GA to go get a coach who has proven himself. That is the way the game is played now. Look at what AL did? They finally got a proven coach. Look at FL, SC, and for heaven’s sake even GA Tech. They got tired of mediocrity and made a change to get a proven coach. GA got lucky in the 60’s when everything was different and got Dooley. You can’t take a chance now and get away with it very often these days. GA managed for a while with CMR but those days are over. He is in over his head now in a league he is incapable of competing with. And so now, the real problem won’t be with CMR, but with the AD. He is going to have to take the blame for keeping CMR and for paying him too much money to bring down a top tier school/team to the bottom because that is where it is headed unless you fire CMR.

Why in the world would Bobo call a pitch out to Ealey from the one yard line? I have never seen Ealey stopped for no gain going straight up the gut. It really is shame when our players on the field know more about football than our coaching staff. I truly believe Ealey was denying the fact that Bobo really meant calling that pitch play from the one and his subconscious was only executing the play that should have been called!

Mr. Athletic Director, who is so well thought of, should be replaced first……the athletic program at UGA is in shambles. I have not seen this much discontent all around in a long while. CMR is a nice guy……and therein lies the problem……he’s nice to a fault……too loyal for his own good to coaches who have obviously reached their level of incompetence. Also, it would behoove Georgia Football to start recruiting a better class of athletes…..if you can’t pass a drivers test, what are you doing in college? Rushign Game Still Needs Some Work

we got away from the run in the second half at the end, 3 out of 4 of our last 4 drives had more passes than runs. When we went to the run, we had a long drive down to the 1 yard line. Run-heavy play calling worked, pass-happy play calling flopped.

We ended up with a 55% run/45% pass play call mix in the second half overall, which isn’t too bad, although I’d like to see it 60% run, 40% pass. We won time of possession in the game. We got Ealey 19 touches and if you consider Ealey had a 55 yard explosion play on his 8th touch, he REALLY got 6.9 ypc, but even with the penalty call on the 55 yard explosion play, Ealey’s still at 5.0 ypc for the season. I’d like to see Ealey be our 1 back and get more touches and then we’ll see more EXPLOSION plays from him.

Bobo made some good adjustments in this game strategy wise–he called 40 running plays, we had a run-heavy play call mix overall, we controlled time of possession. However, we didn’t get a 100 yard rusher AGAIN, we didn’t have a 200 yard rushing game–AGAIN. Usually, when we outrush the other guys, we’ve won 100% of our games this year. The 4 turonovers did us in and killed that. But the strategy was solid for Bobo this game, the execution was not there.

What I’ve read here is venom and vitriol. A utter lack of respect for the game players and coaches. Shame on all of you. College football is a sport and in competition there is a winner and loser. This year the Dogs are the latter. For many many years they were at the top of the pile.

It is extremely hard to replace markee talent in one season and keep the boat afloat. So I have sympathy for Georgia’s demise.

I do not have sympathy for undisciplined performance and bad character. The national televised game last night exposed all of those in 3 hours and change. Going back to the days I walked past Sanford stadium for classes – there was always a positive mood and hope for a better game when we lost…now its’ all about individualism.

These guys are having a “come to Jesus” moment and they will get through it as a ‘life lesson” only with focus, determination, and grit.

That said: last night’s effort was absolutely one of the worst second half performances I have ever witnessed since Donan, and Goof plied their trade ‘tween the hedges.

Everyone just rolled over and quit. Why would fans walk out when the game is on the line? Unbelievable!

He WILL say that if they go, he will go, Georgia will be intimidated at the prospect of losing a guy with 2 SEC Championships and NO BCS Championship Game appearances since his arrival and a program sinking faster than a certain ACC coaches’bladder control that they will say “Okay. You do whatever you want”. Georgia fans you are HELPLESS!!! You are held HOSTAGE. Get used to it!! They will build a statue, install a mural and probably name a stadium after him in the offseason.

Kentucky deserves more credit than angry fans are giving them. They made few mistakes and apparently made adjustments at halftime that turned the game around. There is no question that Georgia has a weak coaching staff starting at the top. There have never been consequences for bad behavior or sloppy play. Arrests for drunkenness and off-field violence have diminished, but now Richt’s entitled children think that they don’t require drivers’ licenses, like everyone else, and of course, Georgia remains near the top in penalties. Rich Brooks’ recruiting class this year was ranked #50 in Division 1, while Richt’s was 4th or 5th. That is pure coaching. Richt’s undoing began when he ordered the end-zone dance against UF. A coach cannot demand that players follow the rules of the game when he doesn’t himself. The same goes for the pirate, Adams. The program will remain sick as long as Adams micromanages it and advocates winning at all costs. It is just Karma, and it will take a long time to right the ship.

Fire Richt and Evans and start over. Georgia has turn into a street thug team. Because we have street thug coaches from miami. We are gettin exactly the results you get when you hire a Head coach who comes from coaching street thugs in tallahasse and now has brought the thugs to Athens Town. We are a Disgrace. This is Richt’s faults and his problems are BoBum and Taco Martinez. Georgia Bulldogs can only win at Gymnastics and Tennis and Golf. No Street thugs on those team and no street coaches at those positions take a look at that Evans. we are pitiful. UGA football looks like were at a damn Hip Hop concert on the side line. UGA acts like the words in a hip hop song F— authority, f—the police, f—the game plan, Where’s my gameboy and my hoes. I guess next week instead of black helments we will wear a thick heavy chain necklase’s with a cadilac hubcap on it … Were pitiful. I am done with this team that is only a reflection of Florida State. I have been saying this to my tailgate friends for the past couple of years. I told them Richt will turn our program into a FSU. Tech fan signing in here. To all other Tech fans talking about the “beat down” Tech will give UGA next week, that game is not over yet. Celebrate AFTER the game (if Tech wins), not before. You know what they say about counting your chickens before they hatch. UGA has nothing to lose next week. It would make their season to beat a 10-1 Tech team. And remember, in recent years Tech has lost to UGA in games they should have won (thanks for nothing Reggie Ball). I’m concerned UGA will come in here and play lights out.

It’s not just that we lost a game we were supposed to win…it’s the way we lost….the way we conducted ourselves on the sidelines when we thought we had it in the bag.

It’s not the won-lost record….it’s the trend of our conduct…win or lose.

Arrests for stupid things….sideline dancing when tied or behind….wearing costumes instead of the regular uniforms….taking the boys for a nice swim instead of practicing in the hot sun of August…I could on and on.

Discipline is the thing. Question – how many times did Tom Landry, or Lombardi, or Bear Bryant resort to costumes? How many times has Paul Johnson taken his boys swimming during the formative practice days early in the year? How many sideline dances did Dooley allow – win or lose?

If you are going to run a class-less, undisciplined program, at least be open about it. Go ahead and change the regular uniforms to black, change the mascot to a Pit Bull named “THUGA” and change the team name from Bulldogs to Raiders.

I am a huge Richt supporter and I can not understand why a coach with high moral values can allow such shameful late hit, trash-talking, thugs on the defense especially. This is not how UGA plays the game and it can not be accepted. Athens is not Miami and Tallahassee.

Aaron Murray doesn’t have to be GREAT next year.

We can win a lot of game by going to a 65% run/35% pass playcall mix. If Murray can limit interceptions and throw it away or take a sack when something isn’t there (hard to do for a talented QB), we can win a lot of games. Ealey is DEFINATELY our 1 back for the future. Ealey’s 55 yard EXPLOSION run and his 9 yard run near the goal line were AMAZING. His 20 yard run last week against Aubrun with the 360 near the goal-line ROCKED. Ealey has a 5.0 career ypc for Georgia, just shy of Herschel Walker (5.29 career ypc average).

When Murray does pass next year, he’s going to have some big-time weapons, hit them on the fly and LOOK OUT:
TE Charles–he rocked the 1st half
WR Marlon Brown (ranked #2 in the country)
WR AJ Green

I like Mark Richt but, as much as it pains me to say so, he does not seem to be able to make the tough decisions that must be made as the head coach of a major college football team. Perhaps his decency as a person blurs the reality of the current football situation but the facts remain that coaching changes must be made and discipline instilled in the players. If his decency is preventing him from making those changes, then perhaps its time for the AD to step in and make the necessary changes.

I have never liked UGA football but I do have to admit that the Vince Dooley teams had class. Dooley never showed up anyone. I remember Lars Tate or Tim Worley (can’t remember which one) did a “fade” into the end zone after a TD. Dooley yanked his butt out of the game, sat him on the bence and got in his face. That moron saint simons manages to disappear when we win or you lose and keep something in mind Jackets, every program, every program with no exceptions has an off year or two. Georgia has superior athletes, always has, always will and if you think this is a long term issue, think again. The more you gloat now, the more you are going to get it rubbed in your face with the next 8 or 9 year winning streak. Changes will be made, especially with the defensive philosophy and that Johnson high school offense that works so well in the powerful ;-) ACC is going to be shredded like cheap pork for years to come. Did you already forget last year against a very mediocre SEC team like LSU that ran you off the field? That was embarrasing wasn’t it sissy simons? What was that score again? Remember that team that beat you like a red headed step child was nothing more than an SEC whipping boy last year. I wouldn’t get so caught up in yourselves, yes the SEC is off this year but the ACC is still a big time joke and that is who you have been beating. Relevance and reality can be painful. This has to be the worst lost of a now terrible season. All of the feel good about this team from last weeks win was lost in the second half of the Ken. game. How do you lose to Ken? This was a total effort on behalf of the coaching staff you cant blame the defense for this lost. The same old problems keep occuring penalties and turnovers. Joe Coxs cannot be expected to win games he is not good enough to do this. Joe is fine when everything is going our way but at the first sign of trouble he goes south in a hurry aka the 2 terrible inteceptions he threw right to the defenders. This a young team with a lot of talanted players that is not getting any help from the entire coaching staff. No coach on this staff cannot be held accountable for what has happened this season. Orson Charles has a great first half and we go away from him completly in the second half nice job on your part Bobo of finding away to get him the ball. A pitch play on the one yard line what kind of call is that? Ealey or King could have ran a dive or went up over the top for the TD to tie the game once again great job of play calling. Smith had been a force all night in the first half nothing at all in the second half. Its like we only know one or two ways to get him the ball and once the defense make adjustments to stop those two plays we dont have an answer to their adjustments and cant use our talent in different plays. Special teams have been a joke all year. The return men need to learn how importantit is to hold on to the football this all goes back to coaching. Please just let Blair kick the ball as hard and deep as he possibly can and teach your coverage team to stay in their lanes and how to tackle.Forget the short pooch kick and the angle to the sidelines kick. I felt like we should have played the two freshmen QBs a long time ago and still think we would have been not only better this season but much better next season by letting these guys get game experience. Well you can forget about that now no time to waste a red shirt now just anither great coaching move by this staff. One last point why dont we take our FBs and move them to TEs where we can use there blocking and put in an extra wide reciever in and spread the field out a little more and open things up a little bit and forget about that out of date offense that we are still running oh i forgot that would take coaching to do something like that and thats the number one problem with this team COACHING or lack of.

Coach Smith,
I am a Tech graduate and I wish the Tech fans would leave UGA alone, particularly today. I would like to point out, however, that your post at 1:40 a.m. today confirms that you are a doorknob.

Sanford Stadium is indeed huge, confirmed by the huge crowds leaving last night with 2 minutes left in an undecided game. Georgia raises huge dollars with its football program. It’s student enrollment is over twice the size of Tech’s yet Tech draws 60% of UGA’s average home football attendance. Also, while UGA makes great money in its football program the college endowment is now at a mere $600 million while Tech’s endowment is nearly 3 times that amount at over $1.6 billion. This with less than half of the number of alumni compared to that of UGA.

I really want the Tech fans to stop spewing about UGA football, especially when they are down. You’ve had a great run in this decade (although 2 SEC Championships in 26 years makes me wonder about your insisting that UGA is a premier program on a national basis) but the fact is that you have nothing to crow about even before last night’s game.

Come on Dawgs, pull yourself together and stop being so arrogant about who the team isn’t and understand who the team is. Richt has his butt against the wall, and he needs you to have his back. When he started a 5th year senior QB, who couldn’t start the four previous years, you had to know this could happen. It’s obvious that some coaches need to go, but you have to know you can get better ones first. Bobo should not be the offensive coordinator, and running that crossing pattern over and over is a good example, and finally KY was sitting on the route. Look around and see what’s happening as Auburn, Tech, Vols, Clemson, USC and a few others are hitting this state hard for recruits and Richt has to do a better job pulling some of these recruits back. I couldn’t believe the faces and actions of so many fans last night. Do you think the team couldn’t see that too, man up and be a real fan.

What happened to Orson Charles? Well, unlike Georgia, Kentucky has a defensive coordinator who’s able to adjust to what the opponent is doing. Unlike Georgia, they figured out how to cover the bootleg. Unlike Georgia, there’s actually reason for optimism at Kentucky. It’s pretty bad when your coaching staff gets schooled by Kentucky. Actually, schooled is the wrong word, because it implies that our staff might have learned something.

BuLLdog, even in your misery you can’t help but try and belittle Tech. Sagarin says their strength of schedule is 12th in the country. SEC powers Alabama and my Gators are 41st and 51st respectively.
Records of opponents is a false yardstick, since by definition most of your games are against your conference rivals, who will also play each other where one will win while the other loses.

Georgia may very well beat Tech next Saturday. However, that does not change the fact that so far Tech has played the 12th strongest schedule in the country and is 10 – 1. Georgia has played the 17th strongest schedule and is 6 – 5.

Everything is ok, as CMR is set to sign another in a long list of top 10 recruiting classes. He doesn’t need to review CWM or BOO BOO, or any other coach for that matter. Just like last year when he didn’t feel it neccessary to review CWM and the job, or lack there of thats was done on the field. When are you CMR apologist going to wake up and understand that without Vangorder Richt is an average coach. Not a bad coach, just average. UGA deserves better. Who to get? I do not know, as I am not an expert, but it doesn’t take an expert to see we are constantly one of the most undisiplined teams in the country. But thats ok, let our players keep dancing and having there fun when your behind with 7 minutes to go in the game. Folks, the problems start at the top, not just with the coordinators. CMR should be put on notice by the administration to clean this mess up by next year, or we have no choice but to look elsewhere.

Wait a minute folks…we got what we wanted. Doesn’t everyone remember at the beginning of spring practice how all the players and coaches were saying what a “Vocal Leader” Joe Cox was as compared to Matthew Stafford? Well, I’m glad he’s vocal but he’s not the same class of quarterback as Stafford….I guess none of the players and coaching staff considered that.

What about Bryan Evans? His purpose is to commit late hits and pass interference penalties as often as possible. I realize that Rambo was hurt but we don’t have other safeties? It’s hard to believe that he stays in the game, regardless of the penalty committed and gets beat regularly on pass routes.

Pathetic, dominating first half, and then you come out second half as if you were playing florida. How do you do that? Oh yeah thats right Cox is a choke artist, and our coaching staff is worried about whose going to win next years dancing with the stars. Seriously? I cannot believe this year has come down to this, and in all honesty who the hell thought that starting Joe Cox was a brilliant idea. What you did is you put an academic senior out there with freshmen football talent. Thats great that hes been sitting on the sidelines all these years and has been “studying” the game. But, honestly, did you really expect him to come out and play like a senior? Piss poor decisions = piss poor coaching.

It’s not just losing,it’s HOW you lose. It’s not just winning,it’s HOW you win, UGA under Richt has had some great wins, but even in the good years, many games have been much closer than they should have been. And some of the loses, especially recently, have been blow outs. UGA gets great better atheletes than the players on the field – underachievers on the whole.
PS If you cannot punch the ball in from the half yard line with two downs to do it, with 2 min to play, you do not deserve to win. Why pitch toss around the end??? Bad call, bad confidence in your line play, bad execution = all too predicable result…another L.

Is anyone going to watch the Mark Richt show? It should be interesting to see his explanation of last nights debacle. Too many penalties, too many turnovers, very poor special teams play and too little coaching, I take full responsibility for all these problems. I’ll handle just like I did with the arrest of our players for driving without a license. Really?

The real fire works will be tonight on his call in show (if he shows up—he may have a family emergency). This loss was much worse than to the Vols or the Gators and after those losses he was read the riot act———-Richt just isn’t tough enough to be a head coach. Somebody said it earlier, without Van Gorder as the DC Richt is just an average coach.

Well, there is one positive thing to say about CMR, he has a good tan. Or, is there anything REALLY good about a tan? That was a pitiful excuse for a football game. It’s time to get our act together and act like one of the big dogs. There is no other option but to make some coaching changes. You might as well go ahead and evaluate them all now. Everyone has talked about one major change and that is defensive coordinator. The one that we have now is terrible. He cannot make simple adjustments. How can you keep him?
Make the necessary adjustments now and have a great coaching staff in place to recruit. Get it done and whatever you do don’t wait.

I said it at the first of the year that this team would be alot like 77 78 79. The dfifference in those 3 years, is that in 78, we could score somewhat, and we had few injuries. We also played our young qb Belue, when our senior struggled. I have to hope that these young qb’s are good, I wish we could break one in now, but I believe Richt when he says the best option for the year to win is with Joe Cox. You can leave willie on staff for db’s and bobo with qbs but they are terrible coordinators and have to be replaced. Tubberville is the answer on defense. Fla Dawg- I have heard rumors about tubberville coming to athens as our d coordinator. I would love to see him on staff here and I hope that the rumors are true. The only problem is whether he is willing to downgrade to d coordinator because there are plenty of headcoaching jobs out there right now. I have no doubt that Damon Evans is willing to pay him the bigtime because he really wants to see this program suceed. As for Weis, That is a great idea. Thats the first time ive heard his name but he is an offensive genius and if we got him and tubberville plus the recruits we have coming in and the freshmen we have right now. I never thought uga fans could get more delusional then they usually are, going to win a national title every year, cox would be better than stafford, stuff like that. However, now people talking that they are going to have tuberville be their d coord and weis be their o coord. Wow. Tuberville is a head coach and will be one again soon, he is not demoting himself to a college d coord. Weis will head back to the nfl he isn’t coming down athens to be an o coord. Also, the reason richt allows such thug behavior and shows no discipline because that is who he is. He has miami and fsu blood in him and he has brought that to uga. It was just accepted behavior on those teams and it is now dirty play is preached at uga, that is why it doesn’t go away, it is just part of the program.

The disgusted fans leaving as soon as Kentucky took the lead and the ones shown in the stands should tell Damon Evans all he needs to know. Changes HAVE to be made NOW. Say what you will about Jim Donnan, but his teams were way more disciplined than this bunch of felons & idiots. Hell, I’d even prefer Goff over CMR right now. This has been an absolutely shameful season. They are not bowl worthy. They’re not even worthy of being Georgia Bulldogs. It has also been said that the players are DUMB! I feel sorry the coaches for having to coach such dumbness! The second half of the Kentucky game was nothing short of plain ole dumbness! Hopefully, the dawgs new crop of players will have a little bit of mentality along with their athleticism. Now I feel better…I called it like it is and got it off my chest!

The problem is from the top down … this team has talent … it certainly has more talent than they have shown this season … or last season, for that matter … it may be time for a clean sweep at UGA ….

Well I predicted you would lose 6 games this year and you are on target to make my prediction come true. We love playing bottom feeders from the SEC. You are the third bottom feeder on our schedule this year. They are easy wins, but hurt our strength of schedule.

I say quit beating around the bush and hire Chan The Man Gailey. He will get you 7 wins per season most the the time with a few 5 or 6 win seasons thrown in. GO FOR IT. It’s better than what you have now.

You asked, “Who do you think demands the respect of his players more – Richt or Johnson?”

No doubt, Johnsom *demands* the respect of his players but also no doubt Coach Richt *has* the respect of his players. Any MORON can yell at someone and “get in their face”, even probably you. But a man who acts with integrity and honor will have respect from the people whom he is responsible for. We shall see which approach is more successful in the long run.

BullDawg,

You talk like you know a lot and are some sort of expert on how bad Georgia is under Mark Richt. But you get too many facts wrong to have any credibility (look it up; it’s in the dictionary). I quote, “AJ Green, who is GONE after his sophomore year. We got to see him a year and a half. That’s it.”

He is not “GONE” after this year. He will be back for his Junior season.

How many years are you willing to give a coaching staff? Some of you are only willing to give them one year!!!! When I look at the games we could have won, Oklahoma State, LSU, and Kentucky, I see could be 9-2 right now. And that’s with a down year! Also, let’s play a Tennessee State our first game next time! We had a brutal schedule this year — three top ten teams (LSU, Florida, G.T.). Remember, we play in the SEC, a not so easy conference to play in.

Yet, Georgia still is a winner!!! Look for a rebound next year. Keep the faith!!

SOS Dawg,

You, like many others here, don’t show ANY appreciation for the success that we have had under Mark Richt and only want to throw tantrums like small children do over the recent problems. There is no doubt that our program has some significant problems right now that need to be corrected. But you miss the one thing that we, as fans, can control and that is our reaction to the circumstances.

Insulting the coaches and players does not accomplish anything but reflect poorly on UGA (I was going to say “our school” but I realize that most of the worst offenders could not possibly have attended college, much less UGA). And yes, leaving early with the game still on the line looks terrible on national tv. Frankly, except for the children among us, I don’t understand leaving a game we still could have won at all. You can talk all you want about what “UGA FANS DESRVES” but what the University of Georgia and it’s players deserve is support, even when things are going bad.

Object lesson: Rennie Curran will likely leave for the NFL because he has an illegitimate one-year-old daughter he says he needs to “provide for.” Why didn’t this moron babydaddy think about this before he knocked up his girlfriend and then left her high and dry?

Curran is just one example of the unprincipled, undisciplined thugs that Richt recruits. And you expect to win with these jerks? Ha ha!

waiting moderation,

With your comments below (and others I have not excerpted), you have clearly crossed the line from expressing frustration to expressing racism. Just because someone says “thug” does not make them a racist but to the extent that these comments reflect your real views you obviously ARE a racist and you deserve to be called out on it. I am embarrassed that you in any way associate yourself with the Georgia Bulldogs. I have called out fans of other teams when they show a lack of class and your viewpoint is completely devoid of class.

I would like to see Joe Cox carry a football to classes, to the restroom, to every meal, and even sleep with it. This to remind him to handle with care. If anyone sees him drop it, he should have to immediatley do 25 pushups. If he resists, he should be the trainer for the Tech game.

Alright it 5:00 and the hangover is finally wearing off enough for me to vent…here is what I remember before I blacked out….wounded birds were flying all over the field…I almost forgot “Joe the joke” is still playing QB…two schools of thought here (1) lesser of all of evils or (2) Bozo (not Pyburn, he had heart) was the worst QB in the history of UGA football and Ole Joey is basically making him look like a past heisman candidate…I chugged 3 beers when the the ESPN anoncers said Joe had a flawless 1st half and that any kid who win 30 plus high school games has got to be good??? I guess I was watching a different 1st half…now te goal line fumble….How in the hell does the QB forget the play when he called it in the huddle 10 seconds earlier…the entire tem is running handoff and Joe “there is a deer in the headlights” pitches the ball like he was playing hot potato at Thanksgving…Then he tries to debate fault with the rest of the Team on the sidelines…The should have whipped his arse like a red headed step child….At that point, I think Butler was still laughing about the face mask call….by the way which the announcers said they could never in the history of calling games recall a punter being flagged for a facemask…..I hope his dad whips his arse…

Willie Vanille Martines is a pathetic excuse for a pop warner level coach…he will find good company with Fat Charlie as they both paddle their respective canoes out of town!! Idiot….

Mike Bozo the Clown – Name says it all – No comment

CMR – Stop going to church and start drinking beer….it my provide some clarrity that the condition of this program is absolutely disgraceful…

Finally – We are going to get our arses absolutely waxed next week!! Unfortunately I spent my freshman yr as a Rambling Geek before I rested my heart and soul in Athens…I know this game is huge for most but it may be even bigger for me….Bottom line is you cannot win in College football without a stud QB and RB…Joe is a joke and unfortunately our O line doesnt allow for a productive RB…I actually think Ealey will mature into a decent back if he can make the grades??? Similar to last year the geeks will roll 400 plus yds of O on Willie’s predetermined game plan before the bugs put the 2nd stringers in…pathetic….

Final thoughts…..#3 is absolutely lost in space…..there is light at the end of the tunnel and it may not be another train headed our way…the good news with 6-6 is we are headed to the toilet bowl and Willie & BOZO can catch the first damn train right out of town!!!

Put UK away? UGA had a great first half, Kentucky had a bad first half. UGA had a bad second half, Kentucky had a great second half. Both teams were 6-4 coming in, but only one team had their most valuable playermakers offensively. After reading several of your blogs King, in your insufferable retardation, neither side should have been surprised with a win or loss. The difference is, you pay attention to the name on the uniforms instead of pregame fact checking. I’d love an email response from you. Ta-ta.

Dawg nation of tiny tears, QUIT blaming the coaches for the dawgs miserable play. Both lines are so out of shape it is embarrassing. Too many of the Dawg players are going through the motions, trying to avoid injury where in their minds the NFL is calling every one of them. This bunch of losers have been reading too much about how many stars they have by their names and have not grown any while at GA. Personally i will take effort over ability any day of the week. But no matter how their final record turns out (personally I believe they will be sky high for the Jacket game and pull out a win) one only has to look at the Tennessee game to determine just how bad they really are They got their asses janded to them. I haven’r seen a Ga team get manhandled that bad in many years.

In the business world people demonstrating their incompetence like our coaches have been demonstrating their’s would be fired. When Orson Charles “dives” in the endzone for a TD in the first half, it tells me all I need to know about the lack of discipline. Hell, Kentucky didn’t celebrate that much on their winning score. We need more players playing to win the game rather than being a show-off. Orson, for me, make a play when it counts.

I must admit the leghumper’s tears are nutrition for my soul; sweet sweet water like finding an oasis while lost in the desert. However, I don’t know what you expected. You guys hired a coach who tries to be jesus, when everyone with any analytical sense at all knows that religion is just a crutch for the masses; yet we endured all these stories about St. Richt and how he was a good christian man and was raising these kids right. Sure – your fairy tale is better than the rest of the world’s, what if these kids happened to be born in a country that was not majority christian? What then? Would your St. Richt be telling them they would go to hell without the almighty jesus christ as their saviour? I think not, otherwise he would be losing a good football player and we all know that church is held at Sanford & Son Stadium on Saturdays. Apparently, he is like most christians, what he says he believes is only good PR and has no relevance regarding what he does or who he associates with; otherwise, the fleabags would not have a team full of criminals.
Also, I really have to wonder why a black athlete would even choose to go to Leghumper U. to start with, so he could be pulled over on campus for Driving While Black? It seems none of your athletes are smart enough to get a drivers license and the number one thing that the UGA & Athens police dept. look for is black drivers. Hell, look at the fleabags message boards if you want to see racism in action, or better yet, look around the campus and try to find the black students who aren’t athletes, then talk to the 5 of them about their experiences at Leghumper U. You may see a different story. For those that are athletes, take consolation in knowing that you will forever be referred to by all those fratboys as proof that they aren’t racist by claiming you as their “black friends” that they have in routine conversations after they’ve been called out on their racism for making a racist joke in public.
Welcome to the “ghetto”, as you guys call it, on Saturday. Our Jackets will be waiting and ready to show you what a real football team does to an inferior opponent!
