Wearing black for Uga VII?
Fans plan on wearing black for Uga VII. (University of Georgia)
There’s been no official call for a “Blackout” and I fully expect the team to be in the traditional red helmets and jerseys Saturday against Kentucky.
Which is as it should be.
But I’m hearing from a lot of fans who plan to wear black, or at least black shirts, to the game as a mark of respect for the Seiler family on the death of Uga VII.
That sounds like a good idea to me. Not a big media thing, not a “Blackout.”
Just the Bulldog Nation mourning its lost mascot.
What do you think? If you’re going, do you plan on wearing black?

I say the team should wear black jerseys…as long as it is clear the jersey switch is to honor UGA VII rather than another silly move to motivate the team to play better.
At the very least, they should wear some kind of helmet decal to honor his memory.

I say its time for a “WAKE”. Literally, lets make this a memorial to UGA and let this be our time to put the past behind us and start fresh. If we can go ahead and beat Kentucky and then Tech this will make a bad season a little easier to deal with. We could end up with a good bowl game.

The team should never wear black again until there is a special deserving occasion. That could be a long time away based on what I have seen. I will wear a black shirt to mourn Uga VII.

It would be a nice gesture for the Seilers. I never thought the jerseys did any more than fire up the fan base anyway. A tribute to Uga and all the Ugas and Seilers would be appropriate. I expect both red and black apparel by the fans.

Listen, I am sick and tired of all these people crying like a bunch of babies about the black helmets. If UGA had won that game those black helmets would have been the most beautiful things that anyone has ever seen and they would have sold replicas for $200 a pop. You naysayers can pretend that it wouldn’t be the case but you would just be telling a big fat lie. I say wear all black and even better to do it against an opponent that you can actually beat and maybe put a uni change in some sort of rotation so they just don’t come out for a “big” game so not as much of a big deal will be made over them. I know that everyone is now crying about the tradition and wah wah wah. But the fact of the matter is style points, gimmicks and new stuff helps to recruit an 18 year old kid win or lose.

It would be the only way I would want to see the team ever wear black again. But, if they did, and won, it would be great and I wouldnt mind seeing them wear it again in the future. This is basically their one shot to save any part of the black uniform.

I love the idea of a “total” blackout to honor the seller family… And I truly believe that if uga would switch to black pants for every game, instead of the gray pants that it would boost recruiting like peter said. Plus I absolutely love the black pants and red Jersey for home games…. I also really like the black helmets contrary to popular opinion

Sorry ’bout that! I am not going to Athens, duty calls, but I will wear the black Saturday night for ol’ Uga. Uga VII, we hardly knew ye! Now for some random thoughts. 1- If “mean Gino” Mangino should be fired, my old high school coach should be dug up and hung! I will say this, if not for Coach I would probably be dead or in prison. My Father had died and at times I needed a good butt kicking. I suspect some of Mangino’s players needed disciplin also. 2- I expected the graduation rate at UGA to improve and I expect further improvement. UGA had 75 football players in summer school with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The APR at UGA is now second only to Vandy in the SEC and well ahead of Tech. 3- If Charlie Weis keeps his job and Clausen turns pro Notre Dame will slip from merely bad to awful. Weis wastes more talent than Bowden did at Clemson. 4- People that want Tressel, Richt, or Carroll fired should check out Michigan. Carr was a fine man and ran a very competitive program. Not only did he win a lot of games but his kids graduated and there was no hint of scandal. He just didn’t beat OSU. Well guess what? Dick Rod still loses to OSU, and almost everyone else! Central Michigan anyone? Remember that Carr beat the Gators in his last game. The Moral of the story is that if you have a winning coach that runs a good program and wins a Bowl game almost every year you had better have a DAMN good replacement ready if you fire him! 5- Cuz, I hope you and Baylie have a wonderful time. My thoughts are with you.

I just finished a radio segment on WGAC-580 in Augusta about the contest and her winning “The Ultimate Fan”. She was the subject of news stories yesterday while we were picking up the tickets. Those graduation statistics are nothing to be bragged about for either school. Besides, I thought this was about UGA VII & paying respects to the Seiler family. You folks have my deepest sympathies on UGA VII’s untimely passing. I’m not a UGA fan, but it’s still sad about UGA VII. God I hate Tech fans. Jesus Christ they win one game (barely) after losing 8 straight, and they are ready to anoint themselves national champions! Guess what Tech fans, every year Tech will lose to an inferior team, and this year it will be UGA. Georgia has one chance to salvage this season, and beating Tech would do just that. I CAN’T WAIT TO RUB IT IN EVERY TECH FANS FACE WHEN WE ROLL INTO BOOBY DOOD AND STOMP THE BUMBLE BEES!
p.s.- Im not a stupid redneck Georgia fan, I’m a halfway intelligent student at UGA who was also accepted into Tech. I just dont want to spend the next four years around a bunch of losers and geeks when I can get a degree from UGA that is just as comparable as one I could obtain from Tech.
p.s.s.- And Dawghater, tell me why Tech fans (like you im assuming) always consider UGA fans to be rednecks and hillbillys. Is it because we have a MUCH bigger fanbase than you? I’m in. Black it will be. I am so proud to be a Georgia Bulldog. We are among the oldest, proudest, and finest academic and athletic institutions in these United States. UGA VII was a continuance of one of the most iconic and recognizable mascots in all of college sports. Tomorrow will be a great day in Athens, Georgia as we are reminded of who we are as fans and family. It will be a great day for the seniors and our beloved football team as a whole. Tech is a very good school, so is UGA. You and all your Techie friends always wanted to point out that there was a higher academic standard over there because you couldn’t keep up on the football field. Tell me just who do you think beleives that you only recruit 3.0 students??? Sell that sh#% to the Tech alumns, they’re the only ones buyng. What was Reggie Ball’s GPA? How about Stephon Marbury? I was told by a very reliable source from GT, he left after 1 year because he was over his head in the classroom. By the way, we also have an O-lineman who was a gnat’s ass away from valedictorian of his high school and have our share of scholar athletes too.
GT is a great school and much improved thanks to CPJ on the field but trust me; he aint just recruiting top scholars over there!!!!
