There are a lot of obnoxious Tech fans out in cyberspace (UGA cartoon), but the treatment Bulldog fans get from Tech people when they visit Bobby Dodd Stadium is usually respectful. Bulldog fans get the requisite boos and hisses, but rarely if ever does a Tech fan get drunk at the stadium and try to start a fight with a Georgia fan. My college roommate went to a Tech-UGA game in Athens wearing his Tech jersey, and multiple times drunken Georgia fans (most of whom probably never went to UGA) tried to pick fights with him in the stadium, as well as in the parking lot. Listening to other SEC fans talk, UGA fans are up there with LSU, Clemson and Ohio State for obnoxiousness.

Most of the people I know who went to UGA do have a lot of class, and I count many of them as good friends. To these fine people I extend my condolences for the loss of your beloved mascot. RIP UGA VII.

L-Dawg,

As a Tech fan, I would have never found this blog if I hadn't googled "Georgia Tech Football" and saw your comment about Tech fans coming on this blog -- a blog I've never heard of before. I though I'd provide some insight.

It's said that a lot of Tech fans have "Dawg Envy". Nothing could be further from the truth. When we see that Model-A rolling out of the tunnel and onto the field with all the cheerleaders hanging from the running boards, the pride we feel as Yellow Jackets is beyond anything you could ever comprehend. It's true there was a time we might have envied having Vince Dooley as a coach, and maybe having Herschel Walker as a running back (though most of us were quite happy having Robert Lavette). And during our lackluster Chan Gailey period, some of us might have even envied you for having Mark Richt, whom we see as a product of the Bobby Bowden/FSU/ACC football, not UGA football. Truth be told, your program hasn't been worthy of envy since you guys hired that guy Ray Goof.

Anyone can be a Georgia Bulldog fan. It's easy. All you have to do is be born in Georgia and have a pulse. You don't even have to have attended school in Athens. When even the Atlanta sports channels and writers give preferential treatment to the Georgia football, how hard is it to be a Georgia fan? Really.

On the other hand, being a Tech fan in a conscious choice. Most of us went to Georgia Tech or had a dad who went there -- or both. We're proud of our small fan base. We root for our team through all the losses and hard seasons, while the establishment sports community in Atlanta only jumps on the Tech bandwagon when we break the Top-10. We do make a big deal out of beating our "cross-state rival". There was even a time when we considered the Georgia game "our bowl game". But, just as the Florida and Tennessee games are more important to you than playing us, the Clemson, Virginia Tech and Florida State games mean more to us than playing against your school.

The reason we make a big deal out of beating you is because it shuts up all the obnoxious Georgia fans for a year. And it shuts up all the pro-Georgia sportswriters in the state.

Dodd's Best,

First, Bobby Dodd would be mortified and horrified that someone as disgusting as you and with out any class, would DARE think of using his name as a representative of Georgia Tech. You insult and disgrace your school.

Second, to answer your question, "WHY WOULD A TECH FAN, AT THIS MOMENT BE JEALOUS OF ANYTHING ABOUT UGA?" because no matter what Tech does, you are ALWAYS jealous of Georgia.
