Issue citations to the drunk in public students, those that get kicked out of games, and people who trash the place with punishment being they show up at 6am the next morning to clean the place up…that should stop some people

I have tailgated on North Campus for over 24 years. The problems only started about 5-6 years ago. The more restrictive the rest of campus became, the younger the crowd became on North Campus. The younger the crowed became, the less responsible they became. I doubt many of them have tickets to the game. But, it seems like the place to be. It is close to downtown, many have tv’s set up so you can watch the game, and you don’t have to clean up after yourself. I reluctantly moved my tailgate further away to avoid the problem. I would love to be back in the quad. I am surprised that Michael Adams has not started charging for admission to campus. If you have a ticket or an student id, you are ok?

We need to get this problem solved fast; it is embarrassing. There are a lot of good ideas suggested here (and some too extreme, like closing down the whole area) but its going to take some effort by all of the parties involved. I am mostly concerned that the University has allowed this to go on for too long, and frankly don’t understand it.

I like the students I have seen promoting recycling. I’m not sure if they are in the affected area on North Campus or not but they could be a part of the solution. Also, I like the idea suggested of having Alumni Association involvement. I think they spend too much effort on promoting “Bulldog credit cards” and need to help solve a problem where the organization could really make a difference.

I attended the University of Georgia and received degrees in 1977 & 1984. I presently live in Missouri.

This past week I had a business trip to Atlanta and took an extra day to drive over to Athens Sunday morning. I knew that there was a football game the day before, but nothing could have prepared me for the garbage dump left behind the previous day by the football fans on old North Campus. It literally brought tears to my eyes. I can not believe this happens – it is even harder to believe that it is allowed to happen a second time – does anyone really think these folks are going to change their ways? TRASH BREEDS TRASH!

First off, most of the tailgaters on North Campus are students, yes, and they are definitely the biggest issue. I can also tell you that there are NOT enough cardboard trash cans given out. We get there to tailgate at 7 am, and if you’re not quick enough, all the trash cans have already been taken — some fraternities will take two, using one to hold ice and beer, the other for trash. At the LSU game (which was a 3:30 kickoff, not a night game), they didn’t bring out more trash cans until nearly 1 pm, at which point there was already a ton of trash on the ground.

I think the best thing to do is to start trash collection a few hours before kick-off, not a few hours after the end of the game. People also need to be realistic — there will always be trash, because there will always be drunken slobs out tailgating on Saturday. More trash cans and earlier collection would help, as would, as someone noted, posting a few signs.

Also, this is not some conspiracy by Adams. Adams is an idiot. It’s been common knowledge since at least my freshmen year four years ago that North Campus gets pretty trashed on gameday. When the R&B decided to run this story for the first homegame, Adams called the editor, stunned, and asked how she knew that’s what it would look like. He, Jackson, and Mace are clueless idiots.

You are severely misinformed. Over the past few years, the vast majority of the tailgaters on the North Campus quads have been UGA students. It’s become the favorite place for students to hang out before the games.

UGA needs more toilets on game day. A study was done at tech that folks will only walk 10 yards or wait 5 minutes to relieve themselves. Another suggestion is for UGA to plant more bushes or install more hydrants.
