Washaun Ealey runs in for his second touchdown. (Brant Sanderlin, bsanderlin@ajc.com)

Midway through the third quarter of Saturday’s game, shortly before the stands started emptying, one of my neighbors at Sanford Stadium, a lady lawyer, sighed and asked, “How did we end up playing Tennessee Tech? This is not interesting.”

Precisely. This was a game where if it had been interesting, it would not have been a good thing for the home team and UGA fans would be in an uproar again.

It was pretty much what was expected, both good and bad: The Georgia offense roared off to a fast start, taking a 31-0 halftime lead, and then lost interest in the second half. Washaun Ealey continued to tantalize, with two touchdowns and 89 yards rushing (44 of them on one of his touchdown runs) and Caleb King, the starter, added another 71 yards as Georgia rushed for a total of 304.

Willie Martinez’s defense notched its first shutout since 2006. Joe Cox didn’t throw an interception, but Georgia managed to keep its string of games with a turnover going thanks to a deep pick thrown by backup Logan Gray, who was largely ineffective in relief. And the penalties continued to pile up, this time 11 (mostly false starts by the offensive line).

Speaking of penalties, one of the two most exciting plays of the game, a fantastic zig-zagging punt return for a touchdown by Prince Miller, didn’t count because of a holding call.

But on the plus side, two-way player Branden Smith took a direct snap in a “Wild Dawg” formation and zipped down the sideline 52 yards to the end zone. He actually topped King for second place in rushing for the day with 72 yards on three carries.

Yes, it would have been nice to see more scoring in the second half, but frankly after the season we’ve had so far, a boring romp was just what the Bulldog Nation needed.

Of course, as usual, no discipline, poor players & a lack of coaching anybody up produced 11 (ELEVEN!!)penalties. That is terrible!

Wow No style points in the second half. I guess Tenn Tech made one helluva halftime adjustment. whoopty dooo Tenn Tech. I believe I would rather have watched the dawgs get their brains bashed in by an elite SEC team.

I am still dissappointed that we still are making STUPID penalties. We wont win another game if this continues Im afraid. Still no forced turnovers against mickey mouse team. It is what it is.

Okay, I’ve seen enough of Logan Grey. Logan can continue practicing fair catches. Cox is the man this year so Murray and Mettenberger will fight it out during the spring. Personally, I like to see Mettenberger coached up to start. At 6′5″ and 230 he is better built to run the pro style offense.

Ealey needs to be our starter. No questions asked. So he missed ONE key block in the Flo/UGA game. Do you honestly think that that ONE missed block was the reason we lost. No, it was poor passing by Joe Cox. Richt said he wouldnt start Ealey cuz of the missed block, yet Joe KEEPS throwin int.(aside from today,Tenn.Tech) So givin that, WHY DIDNT RICHT PUT AARON MURRAY AS 2ND STRING WHEN WE ALL SAW JOE SLOWLY RUINING THE OFFENSE earlier this season???

A Boring romp is anything BUT what this group of underachievers needed. They needed to get in there against a real team and continue to test their skills. Beating up on a lesser opponent for a win? You’re NOT serious? Why don’t ya schedule a high school team next time. Or better yet, run Auburn and Kentucky into the ground like Tennessee Tech. Better watch out or folks will start calling the Dawgs for THEIR homcoming romps.

Logan Gray has to transfer while he still can. If he looked this bad against Tenn Tech…is there reason to believe the guy will ever be an effective QB for UGA?

Wasted scholarship right there, recruiting a QB that doesn’t fit what you run to begin with, and you try and “make him” into a pro style QB when the skill set just isn’t there.

I wish the guy nothing but the best, but if he’s looking out for himself, he’d transfer somewhere to run a spread offense.

I cant believe I was talked into paying 30 dollars for this measley 38 points. The pundits are already thinking UGA couldnt score more points on this pop warner team. My Alabama and Clemson friends are giving me a hard time about this game. Richt needs to understan the imortance of style points. He is such a loser.

Glad Georgia won but Willie still needs to go. I was watching the game on CSS and Buck made the statement people will say that Georgia played a lower tier team and that is why the defense looked good and Willie needs to go. Of course he said it in sarcasm. Guess what Buck Willie needs to go and you are a homer. Are you that blind?

Well, we all know UGA has not defeated Auburn four straight times since the 1940’s. Folks, it isn’t going to happen for us next week. Auburn is going to take us to the woodshed something like 27-14. They have a mediocre run D, but they always play better when they face UGA and Bama (expecially UGA). Ben Tate will run wild next week, certainly for over 100 yards. This UGA team will have 10-12 penalities all over again…and Joe Cox will turn the ball over. Why? Because all of these continued problems are things that get corrected in the offseason by GOOD coaching, something UGA does not have at this time. You cannot correct the kind of undisciplined play in a practice week. Today very well may be the final win of the year, and it was by NO MEANS impressive. Kentucky will also run wild on this team, and Tech, well, the only question is can we hold them under 40 points (nope, but we’ll score in the 30’s).

Nice win dogs, but not letting the younger players “play to win” is typical of cmr and why ur program is failing… It is not running up the score, if you are doing it with the backups, the better programs let their young players get quality opportunities or playing time, when they play the lesser quality opponents. But please keep CMR and his clowns, it just ensures we keep winning the east. Also, it does not really matter who you schedule, it is about winning, just win baby that matters…

Buck Belue “A Georgia Legend” REALLY? By who’s standards? Bucks? The guy threw 1 pass to Lindsay Scott and handed the ball to Herschel. Won the NC on the legs of Herschel and the backs of a fierce Junkyard Dawg defense.

Buck was a 2 sport player that could master neither. Bombed on Sports TV and now runs his yap on the radio to diss the fan base that gave him a free ride at UGA. WHAT A TURD!!

Areal journalist would speak the truth and seek out the truth. Not seek out the backside of Richt to kiss and drink the Richt Koolade handed out by the “water girl” By the way, how much is that costing us? $2.8 million for a lame coach…………

Dawgs won 38-0 and if you lived outside of Georgia the game was on the ESPN plan. What I don’t understand is why we continued to run Cox out there. Either Gray can play or he is destined for special teams. We should have hung at least 60 on these guys like Auburn handled Furman. We looked very uninspired in the 2nd half. What a waste of a year for poor Murray. He should be playing or at least backing up Cox. I hope he stays with the program.

Congratulations Dawg fans, you’ve just won your 5th and final game of of your less than mediocre season. Three straight losses will ice the cake. Let’s speculate a probable score for your tumble into Bobby Dodd Stadium. If you only have 10 penalties, the Jackets will win with a probable score of …say 38-17. If you wear your tacky black helmets and pants and commit more than 10 penalties, the Jackets will win with a score of ……let’s say 52-9. Either way, you lose…..again!! If dawg fans are interested in watching a really great bowl game on TV during the holidays, watch GA Tech in a BCS game. It should provide you with some ideas about what great football is all about. I’d bet that most UGA fans have forgotten, given the last time you played a decent game of football. If you apply now, it might be possible that the USA conference would offer your team a place in its conference. However, upon consideration of winning only 5 games this year, you just might be declined. At any rate, GA Tech fans everywhere do hope that the UGA nation enjoys a quiet, restful, and uneventful holiday season watching such great bowl games on television. This is a great opportunity for UGA fans to invite some of the players to spend the holiday season with them being that they will be home. It’s the least you could do. Happy Holidays to the entire Dawg Nation!!!

When was the last time we played a decent game of football? Rich. Come see us in what, 6 more years of winning. Oh yeah, you better hope you win this year or you’ll really look great.
An OT win over Wake….. now that’s something to brag on. Duke is up next. I’m sure you will prevail after a very tough battle with such a powerhouse. Interesting how many Tech fans go out of their way to get on a GA Bulldog Blog. GA Tech is GA Tech, they play in a crap conference, very little school legacy and located in the ghetto.

I remember going to a Tech frat party back in college. Besides avoiding getting mugged..It was the biggest joke for a party. We just decieded to take their kegs and women and go back to Athens. Funny one of the guys in the Tech frat I met that night is now my employee.

No More Buck,

Wow, you must really despise Buck to make such laughable arguments against him. Of course he is a legend at Georgia, for all of the right reasons. He came from one of the greatest High School programs in the entire country. He won in dramatic comebacks. He won individual honors that brought prestige to the program. He threw the pass that is part of one of the most famous plays in college football history. He won SEC Championships. He lead our team to a National Championship. He was a DAWG!!!

What more do you want???? BTW, that question is completely rhetorical. I have no interest in ANYTHING else you might have to say about UGA football or anything else.
