Our next opportunity for an SEC title is December 2010. If Richt believes that Murray will likely be the starter next year than he needs to gain experience now. Forget the 4 years. I don’t care about 2013. I care about 2010. If he is the QB guru that he is reputed to be than he should have no problem signing 2 next year and 2 the year after. Not playing Murray is Richt’s next big mistake and bad judgement.

HereDeal: Good point. Don’t underestimate what could be taking place (or has already taken place) behind closed doors. Richt may have had to hit certain benchmarks in this season to remain as the Head Coach. I wouldn’t be too surprised if there is already negotiations in the works with another head coach. I sure as HECK hope it’s Peterson from Boise. He’s a PERFECT coach at UGA. Get’s every drop of talent from his players, run the ball HARD, play great defense, and play hard nosed, etc.

Seems like Richt is just burned out. “Well…here we are again…” was his first DANG comment to the media after the game. Enough of this awwww, well shucks attitude…” Maybe he’s just being loyal to his seniors in his last year (who knows right now)?

I really DO hope CMR stays though…but something has to give. Getting rid of Willie is a no brainer. Moving Bobo back to qb coach is also a good idea. Gardner to DC may be a good move. Alot of our talented recruits come to GA because of their respect and relationship with Gardner. He may be able to influence them more effectively than Willie. And on another note, why are some wanting Van Halanger (ST coach) gone?

I really see a lot fatigue in Richt and I agree that I think he will step down after this year, even though I hope he doesn’t. I think he has a great run here and probably is growing tired of the pressure and responsibilities of UGA Head coach. He has other interestes.
I also think that is why Cox is still starting. I think if this was Richt’s 3rd year here Murray would be starting by now; but he probably wants to be loyal to his Seniors knowing that the keys will be handed over to the new man next year.
Boise State’s head coach (who imo is the best coach in the nation right now) would be my first choice if Richt left. Just watch what Boise does to their BCS opponent, assuming they ge a BCS birth. They will do just what they did to Oregon this year.

In my humble opinion, make Gray the starter and Murray the #2, and only play Murray if Gray is faltering. If the coaches know for sure that Gray isn’t good enough, then maybe just go straight to Murray, but I still have some hope in Gray who hasn’t gotten enough of an opportunity to judge him. The season is sort of lost, but theoretically, if we could establish a starter to be hopeful about for next season, wouldn’t that help shore up enthusiasm, recruits, etc? We don’t want extreme doom and gloom surrounding the Dawgs as they go into the offseason. Think what happens to our recruiting class if we expect to have coaching turnover as well as no identity at all on offense (which is what happens when we decide a mediocre fifth year senior is the best we have).

Redshirts are a waste anyway. If a guy is that good, he’s gone after three years. Don’t waste one with a redshirt like we did with Knowshon. How stupid was that?

As for the article, your point in the last paragraph is exactly right. I want to see bold leadership taking bold action for the long term good of the program. This season is gone, and I don’t give two s**ts about how the seniors (who aren’t playing up to their billing) feel about it. If he doesn’t start making bold changes now, he’s gonna start losing ticket sales and recruits and fans and me, and respect and ultimately, his job.

Thoughts on Murray…

IMHO we are now playing for next year. If that is the case, than one of QB’s we have on the team will have to be the starter next year. I can’t begin to speak about each one as I have not seen anything but the G day game and the pitiful little series that LG got to have in the FL game.

If the concern is about burning the redshirt for Murray then I have some questions.

1.Is he really all that?

2.If he red shirts and has 4 full years, so will Mettzinberger. Which one gets to be the QB? I thought they were both great. Why create another situation where the QB’s are on the same timeframe and neither has a chance to break thru.

3.Are you saying the over the next 4 years we will not have a QB come in that can compete with these two? This seems like a problem to me.

I would like to see some game experience to the back ups period. Playing Joe anymore is just throwing next season away too. I don’t understand the need to red shirt in today’s game. If the guy can contribute, then let him play and don’t worry about how long he will be there. I thought this staff said they learned a lesson from RS with Moreno?

It seems to me that either they forgot the lesson, or have recruited inadequate QB’s for our system. Pete Carroll is taking his lumps this year so the team will be better in the future. We are taking our lumps this year for what? If we are going to lose 3 out of the next 4 anyway, make it count for something.

I agree with SteelerDawg that QB is not the real problem. It’s more complicated than that, but it basically comes down to a lack of coaching and leadership.

In my opinion, Murray should stay on the sidelines this year. This season is going nowhere, so why use up a year of eligibility for four games. If he turns out to be another Tebow at QB, we’ll have him for four years.

41-17, that has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? Oh, but the Dawgs have the overall series lead so you can sleep good tonight. You know what is funny, you have to be 76+ years old to have the Dawgs have the advantage in wins while you were alive. So basically that means 90% or more of the Dawg fans on this blog have a losing record against the Gators.
