For Dogs, the colors were black … and blue

Is Joe Cox pointing to the next Gator he'll be throwing the ball to? (Bob Andres / AJC)

Florida defeated the Georgia Bulldogs again Saturday in Jacksonville with a large assist from … the Georgia Bulldogs.

After spotting the Gators two touchdowns in the first quarter, Georgia managed to pull back within four points. But the two bugaboos that have plagued the Dogs all season derailed any chance of staying in the game: penalties and turnovers.

The Dogs had eight penalties in the first half. They fixed that problem in the second half, drawing only one flag, but switched to their other favorite way of shooting themselves in the foot, turnovers, with four.

I don’t think that’s what they had in mind when Mark Richt and his staff have said the Dogs need to play “balanced” football.

Starter Joe Cox was lifted halfway through the fourth quarter after throwing his third pick of the half, and then we got the answer to the question of why we haven’t seen more of Logan Gray at QB this season. He is an absolutely terrible passer. The interception he threw from the Georgia end zone to Brandon Spikes, who literally walked in for a score, should become part of an instructional video on how not to play quarterback.

There were positives in the game for the Dogs, mainly in the second quarter when they showed their resiliency and threatened to make a game of it. While Florida looked on its first two drives like it was going to move the ball at will, the Georgia defense stiffened after that and was doing what it could to keep the game in hand, considering the Gators have Tim Tebow. But the second half giveaway staged by Cox and the Georgia offense put the defense in an untenable position, giving Florida a short field too many times. And Mike Bobo actually called a decent game, mixing up the run and pass and moving the ball … until a penalty or turnover would kill the drive.

Basically, the lack of discipline that has characterized recent Richt teams undercut everything good that they did. It’s tough enough to beat a team like Florida if you play your best football. Make that many mistakes and it’s impossible.

One last thought: I’m sure the idiot fringe of Dogs fandom will blame the loss on Georgia reviving the black britches for the first time in 11 years and breaking out black helmets for the first time in UGA history. That’s asinine. The color of what you’re wearing doesn’t cause you to commit penalties or turn the ball over.

Florida won because they’re the better team. But Georgia made it easy for them with too many stupid mistakes.

I disagree with the comments about Logan Gray. He might not be the best passer but then, he has not been given a real opportunity to play either. I don’t think he is starter material, but this was not a fair test.

I agree that uniforms had nothing to do with this game. Turnovers and penalties killed us.

I’m not blaming the uniforms on the loss…but I am blaming the stupidity in putting emphasis on the uniforms instead of coaching and performance. We had more important things to focus on instead of gimmicks…really tired of the gimmicky Mark Richt.

Yes, Mr. Richt’s little gimmick did nothing to help the hapless. Team is still very undisciplined, badly coached and just plain dumb. They seem to be better suited for street mugging or hot-dogging. Your down 14 in 4th quarter and finally make a tackle and celebrate like you really did something. This program is in a downward spiral and it is time for Mr. Richt to hit the road jack. Pack up the water-girl and aim for Talahassee.

This is the most undiscplined and unintelligent team I have ever seen. I was calling for a close game, and would have been if UGA could get out of their own DAMN way. Is Cox truly the best QB we have. Every freaking pass to AJ was high and behind. He will get AJ hurt before the season is over.

I don’t want to hear crap about bogus flags. Every flag was legit. Once again a CMR coached team shows up unprepared. UF never stopped UGA the entire first half, UGA stopped themselves time and time again. Will this season ever end. Hopefully UGA will lose the rest of the games and CMR A$$ will be kicked to the curb along with his best bud, CWM. This team is beyond pathetic. They are so pathetic that I could say CUM and Tebow felt sorry for them.

It does not matter what they wear, I personally liked the uniforms, however this team is awful. How do you have two weeks to prepare and still look as lost as they did the first fifteen minutes of the game. Our coaching staff sucks bottomline. Our soft a$$ coverage in the secondary, linebackers who don’t know what to do, and that includes Curran, and defensive line that does not know how to contain the edge. I say try some new players on defense because JONES, EVANS, DOBBS, and MILLER suck. Why not give more freshman a try, the season is over anyway. We will be lucky to finish 6 and 6.

Tired of the gimmicks. Tired of the penalties. Tired of the soft defenses. Just tired. I don’t mind losing to a better football team if we play with discipline and give a good effort. One out of two for the Dawgs on this one. When I saw the uniforms, I just rolled my eyes. I mean seriously…are you kidding me??? Enough of this crap. I understand we have holes this year, but that was embarrassing. Even the announcers looked a little embarrassed. Joe Cox…big heart and a great kid but he’s out of his league. The O line…breakdowns in blocking assignments put your QB in a bad spot. Show some pride and get your head out of your butt. Mr. Ealey…getting there. Looked good for a true freshman. Richt needs a total come to Jesus (haha no pun intended for the reverend) at the end of this season. He has lost control. Penalties and discipline come back to coaching—and to be honest I’m worried about Aaron Murray—short QBs can cause disasterous plays as we saw today with Cox. But the personal fouls are just stupid—and the defensive ends need to learn to keep their outside arm free, they get hooked on every play to the outside. Thats 6th grade peewee football material. Come on coaches ! Time to clean house, Richt !

The Black hats should be sent to the museum, never to be worn again. I do not know which side of the ball was most inept, the offense or defense. Glad we had the off week to work on our game, imagine how bad we would have been, with only a week to practice. The Tennessee Black uni’s look ludicrous as well, but they seem to be playing better each week inspite of their loud mouth coach. Hopefully someone live Damon or that nut job president, Adams will have a long talk with CMR and insist that changes be made or invite him to move along.

I also 100% disagree with the Logan Gray comment. Spikes eased over 20 yards and made a hell of play. Most importanly though the line quit blocking as the game was over, UF had their ears pinned back as there was no danger of losing. We cannot evaluate Gray until he starts or plays in a legit setting for an extended period. In what we saw in the spring all of us fans thought he was 1 or 2 and interchangeable with Murray. Cox looked 3rd or 4th and that isn’t questioned by the fans coming out of the spring game.

Next week has to start QB tryouts for next year. Murray, Gray and Mettenberg must be the only QB’s that set foot on the field for the remainder of the year unless all 4 get knocked out with injuries.

I am sick of this! UGA needs to get back to hard nosed football. Forget the gimmicks, forget exposing our brand to the nation. CMR needs to fire Martinez, demote Bobo and instill some discipline in these young men. UGA is fading into the SEC version of FSU at a rapid pace. Wait, thats wrong. FSU can play defense sometimes. Please coach start playing the most talented kids and realize loyalty is to the team, university, and yes the Dawg Nation. Loyalty is not to the individual. I’m not just talking about the pick when I say Gray is a terrible passer. Look at every pass he threw. They were horrible. Admittedly, Richt and Bobo have done an extremely poor job of developing him. Too much time on special teams. The same is true with Cox. Had the guy gotten decent backup playing time the past three years, he might not be making the really dumb decisions that resulted in his interceptions. The fault lies with the coaching staff.

UGA’s season was over when our offensive line allowed Okie State’s defense to look like the best of the Big 12. Didn’t see that one coming after all the talk in presason about how good we were up front. We just are not a very good team this year, and it’s EZ to see where our weaknesses are: QB, RB (although Ealey showed promise today), OL, LB, CB and Safety. AJ is the only bright spot we have, and the bad thing about that is the opposition knows they can double up on him, and not be hurt by anyone else when we have the ball.

Why are so many people here so quick to blame willie, the blame must be on Mark Richt, he is the Head Coach. Everyone who has followed Georgia and SEC Football for the last four years, have seen the performance of the Georgia defence and are convinced that Willie is not the answer, if Georgia is to achieve any success in the SEC and nationally. Secondly why are the Mark Rich coached teams so indisciplined. Richt seems to have lost control of the team, and they are now playing like some Miami teams, difference is theose Miami teams use to win all the time. Most people may not agree with me, but I don’t care I will say it, Richt will not lead Georgia to any place of prominence in the SEC. He is a nice person but a horrible coach. I’m tired of a million dollar sub-standard football team. Just throw millions at Nick Saban and get him to leave Bama. Anything, but this loser mentality at UGA has to go away.

We scored half as many touchdowns against the the Gators as seven teams have all year. Seven teams averaged .57 touchdowns against the Gators. We averaged almost “FOUR” times as much. Some of you people need to know more about statistics. Bobo is not the problem. Willie will be replaced. Bobo has not yet done anything that needs to have a “For Sale” sign in his yard.

If you don’t think good coaching makes a difference, look at Urban Meyer and Nick Saban. They turned these programs instantly by establishing discipline, excellent defenses and special teams. When your backup quarterback is your kick returner, you have got to be kidding. These well coached teams don’t committ 4 turnovers every game. Did anyone see that Georgia ranks 119th out of 120 teams in turnovers. I wonder who is the other team that is worse than Georgia? The dawgs are pathetic and it kills me to watch them play. It is hard to swallow 17 out of 20 losses to Florida. Somebody get me a drink of liquor.

I liked the black helmets. Whether they were supposed to be motivational or not. 119 out of 120 Division 1 teams in turnover ratio? That’s ugly. Why didn’t we have Curran shadowing Tebow the entire game? He often wandered through our defense untouched. Its quite obvious that Willie is outmatched against any decent offense. I’ve been a season ticket holder for over 25 years but if we don’t change our DC, I’m giving up.

How can you say Bobo called a decent game? Predictable offense as always. The toss sweep fools no one. They pass on 3rd and 1, run on 3rd and 17, and unless I missed it, didn’t see a single screen pass. Just when Ealey get’s going they take him out and put Samuel in. AJ plays two plays and then they pull him out on a crucial 3rd down. This team is just woeful. I have no doubt in my mind that UGA has as good or better players as anyone in the country.I just don’t understand how the coaches can have a team so undisciplined and under-prepared week after week. Well yeah, I guess I can. This team is soft, undisciplined, and constantly out of position. It’s ironic how you see a highly religious player with so much fire and passion — killer instinct if you will — abuse and demoralize a man of similar stature. And there folks, is your difference. CMR has grown too comfortable in A-town with his big salary and safe posse of friends who aren’t fit to coach a high school team. It’s put up or shut-up time Mark. If major changes aren’t made, you’re gonna lose your job as well. And don’t even get me started on the defense…

I know we did good at the end of the year in 2007 but why was there no carry over into 2008? Also, I would have thought our D and O line would have been two of our stronger parts of the team because of the experience returning. What’s up with that? We seem to be getting man handled. At least with Dooley and Erk, if we got beat the other team knew they had just been in dog fight and left bruised and knew they had just played a hard nosed team. Now….I don’t think teams really are that nervous about us. Our tradition of Junkyard Dawgs has slipped away, and frankly I want it back!

Cuz- You seem to have a level head and I respect most all of your comments so that is why I’m asking you. The team just doesn’t ever seem to be prepared. CMR should be ashamed of himself, for putting that product out on the field week after week…this is the same team we have seen all year, but sorry to say, Florida is just that much better than the others the DAWGS have played…Florida, even when playing bad, have the swagger to pull it out…I don’t know how CMR can look at himself in the mirror doing what he did to this bunch of seniors and especially Cox…his should have taken his obvious out w/ Cox when he had to rest his arm every Wed…this alone would have caused any other coach in America to pull the switch for the good of the program…Cox could have been the backup and gotten in for mop up duties…after seeing this poorly run ship, if I was one of this freshman class, I’d have my parents on the phone calling other programs and heading away from Athens as fast as possible…you’ll be lucky to get the true/blue die hard UGA recruits/fans that idolized the DAWGS all of their lives to show up in the spring, or next fall…so, to all you Homer’s who chose to turn a blind eye to what has been evident to the casual observer all year, is that either this team is badly coached, or just bad period (and I don’t think it was the team, as the talent was there)…also, I don’t see how CMR can ride this out, it’s not going away and the “money people” will make sure of it…

Buckhead, we really do not have the players we had back in those games. Remember we put redshirts on all our Dbacks in 2008. They do not have the game experience. Also, as much as I drank the kool-aid about Joe being the leader that would lead the Dawgs to a division championship, game experience means it all. Which does not look good for next year. I have no clue on the lines. I thought the D line and the O line would be strong. Wrong. Wrong as can be. The only positive I can say is that we gave the Gators two touchdowns when seven teams together could only give them four. Not a moral victory. Just a point of pride in an other wise dismal day.

How much longer can this go on? I am a GA man going back to the 70’s and losing to Florida as much as we have the last 15 years is totally unacceptable. In my opinion, it starts at the top-Damon Evans should be looked at as well as Richt. I like CMR as a person, but there is no reason that we look this bad with the facilities, the geographic location that we have, the tradition, the money, etc.. It is obvious that our coaches are over-matched. If this is not the case then what excuses do we have now as they recruited the players. All I can say is what would we have been last year without Moreno and Stafford? The penalties, the lack of effort, the play calling on both sides of the ball and the gimmicks have me in a position of being disgusted with the whole mess. I am tired of sending my money to the UGA Football program to get this kind of slop. I don’t mind getting beat by a better team with better athletes, but it is coaching through and through as Florida does not have better athletes than we do just better coaches. Willie needs to do the program a favor and fall on the sword for the good of the program(now).

Wearing black helmets isn’t going to make up for lack of strong, aggressive coaching. I’m beyond tired of watching conservative play calling when it’s more than clear our team needs a spark, they need risks, and they need leaders. Joe Cox isn’t the best quarter back in the nation, we all know that, but as Logan Grey showed in the 4th quarter, he’s the best we have. He also has shown moments of inspiring potential. There’s only so much blame that can be put on Joe Cox when we’re running the same play for the 3rd time in a row on 3rd and long. We would’ve been better off punting the ball on 3rd down and not wasting a play. AJ Green only gets 3 receptions tonight? Everyone knows our key to winning is to get the ball to AJ Green as much as possible- except Mike Bobo. Mike Bobo is too conservative for this conference, and if Richt can’t see that and demote him and take back over play calling, then Richt needs to go too. Hopefully, Richt will continue to show the rare emotion he showed tonight and make the changes this team desperately needs.

What pains me most with this current group of players and coaches is no respect for tradition. Once a proud and powerful force in the SEC, they looked today as silly as the Atlanta Falcons during the Glanville era. Why in the heck do these coaches think that attire is going help win football games? Alot of these current players are nothing more than young punks with no respect for themselves, much less for the team. How many personel foul penalties that derail any chance to be competitive will this coaching staff put up with? There is a difference between playing with emotion and playing as a bunch of undesciplined thugs. Maybe it’s time to recruit men of integrity instead of children that have a chip on their shoulders. Players need to understand if you want something, you have to dedicate yourself and work hard to earn it. Don’t tell me those players don’t exist, just look at the the teams you consistently lose to. The media likes to write about the so called highly ranked classes that Georgia coaches put together year after year. Looks like a fraud to me, especially if you watch the actions of these kids on the field. I get so tired of seeing the coaches arguing with the refs over the calls they make. Maybe you guys should get off your cans and coach them up and if that don’t work, you need to think about the type of people you are recruiting! Work ethic and integrity will bring back the tradition that the fans once remembered about being the UNIVERSITY of Georgia.

I know Auburn has been a big win and UGA has been very successful last several years, but I mean like BCS advancement wins like Florida, LSU etc. and probably Bama after next couple of years. he has recruited the same level as these teams, but no cigars. Kiffen will leave him in the starting blocks in near future.
He will be known as the”Tommy Tuberville” of SEC, love his ASSISTANT COACHES AND WANT LET GO.

Watching this team is like watching another families kids that are so undisciplined where the parents just don’t see what everyone else sees. Two seasons of the same ole BS…personal fouls, turnovers, poor tackling, etc. How long do we have to watch this poor excuse of coaching what could be considered elite talent. Our coaches DO NOT have the ability to coach up our players. This is sand lot kind of football which just doesn’t fly in the SEC espcially when you are going up against the Meyers, Sabans, etc of the world. Our coaching is just not good period.

At least Georgia knows what its team colors are: Red and BLACK. Tech can’t decide on gold, yellow, white or navy blue. But BLACK helmets and BLACK pants had nothing to do with Georgia getting smashed by UF again. Coaches who had nothing else to do with their time during the off week than to design uniforms, that’s what caused UGA’s loss and it’s dismal decline of the past few seasons.

I’d like to think that BooBoo and Richt would wise up next week and hand Joe the clip board, but it want happen. We will beat TN Tech by 28 and everyone will say Joe played okay, he’s not the problem. Joe C is not an SEC caliber QB as he has shown several times against our biggest rivals. What was with Samuels jumping up and yelling in the 4th quarter when we are down by 17 because he had a nice run? This team is clue less and I expected more emotion against our biggest SEC rival. The team has become so much a reflection of CMR……no emotion and flat every week. MAN UP CMR and sit Cox’s butt on the bench the rest of the season. Logan Gray is not the answer either. Why redshirt Murray? I see more recruits walking away after our perfromance today. This class will not sign everyone who verballed to UGA, bank on it.

Firing Coach Richt isn’t the answer. He needs
leutinants and both sides of the ball. There are
a very talemted group of freshman and sophomores
playing in a league against a bunch of experienced
underclassman. Our experience is showing (or lack
therof). Young people and young football players
don’t always make good decisions. Cox might as
well be a freshman considering his live game
experience. Let’s get new defensive and offensive
leadership but certainly not a new head coach.

I hate to say it but it’s time to make a change. Not only is this team not talented, but they’re not playing for this coaching staff. And when that happens, a change must happen. I love Mark Richt. I was in Athens from 2001-2004 when his teams where kicking ass and taking names. A lot of great memories from those years. But 2004 might as well be 20 years ago. All programs go through bad years. It’s time for Richt to go. The wheels have fallen off the cart.

I’m ready for the Florida State mindset to be back in Tallahassee. Georgia is playing just like the Bowden teams from FSU, except, the SEC is leaps and bounds ahead of the ACC from the 1990’s and this crap doesn’t fly.

I said before, Mark Richt’s loyalty to Willie Martinez will cost him his job. Damon Evan’s patience may cost him his.

UGA hasn’t had discipline worth a sh*t since Richt got there. He’s had better players…which got them through those few years closer to the top. But they’ve never had discipline. A disciplined team can actually show up for the game, regardless of who they’re playing – and keep from killing themselves with penalties and turnovers – without even really being that good. But when you aren’t that good – and you aren’t disciplined, it’s literally “game over” before the players run out on to the field. Because they aren’t mentally there. They aren’t mentally focused. UGA doesn’t get up for big games – and they do even worse for the games that “don’t matter.”

Offense was encouraging other than the penalties that stalled drives. That freshmen tailback looked pretty good! A.J. Green was awesome. The Defense was a different story. How can a team “not be mentally prepared” like some of you are suggesting when they had two weeks to prepare?

A. They were distracted by “fat girlfriends” (Mike Leach is a trip)
B. Vern Lunquist’s jowls were encroaching the field
C. Urban Meyer’s daughter is smoking hot.
D. Georgia’s coaches are terrible.

This team is a joke! not even enough players on the field when the gators kicked that long field goal. This team has stooped to silly gimicks wit this uniform change. This is something a South Carolina or a Climpson tater program would do. Mark Richt needs some real changes or he just might to be sent packing also. He is now 2- 7 against Fla. He cant win the big games either. CMR has taken UGA as far as he can and its time for new blood next year!

There is nothing about the Dawgs to be thankful for except our place kicker and punter. The realization is that we just don’t have talented players and certainly don’t have anyone to coach them.

I feel for you Dawgs. There has been a seismic shift in the SEC over the last decade, and while you should benefit from Georgia’s population growth, head coaching hires at Alabama, Florida and Tennessee are probably dooming you to also-ran status for the foreseeable future. While it remains to be seen if Kiffin the Younger is the complete head coaching package, he is clearly a lights-out recruiter.

Saban and Kiffin are so geographically close that the stay-close-to-home argument for playing at Georgia doesn’t mean much to a Georgia kid. Bama and UT aren’t that far away.

CMR seems to be a solid coach; but he ain’t Saban or Meyer and never will be.

Finally, if you have to resort to gimmicks like black helmets and congregating in the endzone, you’re sending a message to your players that they aren’t as good as their opponent and need an artificial edge. Great psychology.

I’m stunned. Was ‘02-’05 just an illusion? This is one of the worst coach Georgia teams I’ve ever seen. Stupid penalties, careless turnovers, poor blocking, poor tackling, mediocre pass rush and run defense, almost nonexistent defensive back play…basically the perfect storm of a bad football team. And it’s not like this game was an anomaly – it looked just like the Tennessee game and last year’s Florida and Alabama games, and the ‘07 Tennessee game and the ‘06 Kentucky and Vandy games and the Sugar Bowl against West Virginia. Georgia’s a bully that beats most of the less talented teams, but folds like a cheap suit when it plays a team of similar talent and better coaching, which is just about all of them these days.

Disgraceful.

When my team gets beat, I hit the rack and see what tomorrow brings. I’ve watched UGA for years and in the past 3 seasons I’ve seen team discipline go downhill. That’s a testament to the coaching staff as well as some of the players lacking self-control. It will get better when the HC takes control. You gotta go to the top but too many only see the ‘away from the field’ goodness in their HC. I see it a bit different once it hits the field and when I see the pot calling the kettle black, it becomes a testament to some of the fanbase as well. On the outside, we call it blind loyalty. Alas, we’re all guilty…Congrats to all the victors today.

As bad as everyone thinks Joe Cox has been this year, and I think his performance has been fair overall and good at times, I’m really concerned about next year at QB because Logan Gray was absolutely horrible in relief! His passes were pathetic and he is clearly not the answer for the future. At least Cox came in and won the Colorado game in 2006.By the way. Tennessee Tech is not a BCS team and thus a win against them would not be counted toward Bowl eligibility. This should have been taken into consideration when this schedule was made! We may not even make it to a Bowl this year!

Dear Mr. Evans,

It has come to the attention of the UGA fans that the current UGA football team really sucks. We have been understanding. We have been told at the end of last season after the Michgan State game that the defense would be better this season. We were told that more discipline would be coming and the number of flags thrown against the team would be reduced. Mr Evans, the program has not executed on either of these this year. We are now the laughing stock of the SEC and ACC. GT stands to win more SEC games than GA.

Mr Evans this was once a proud, tradition rich program. Now its a program for clowns. You have some tough personnel decisions to make. Make them quickly and lets get on with rebuilding this program before it is too late.

Let them sit on the bench for several plays. Cant get any worse. The talent is there, the coaching is letting Dawg Nation and the team down. How do you play off the receiver 15 yds and he still beats you by 10 yards down the field. They dont understand (coaching) what their assignments are????? Lame black helmets.

Lame coaching staff.

Lame offensive play calling.

Lame defensive game plan; for God’s sake, they only have 1 player to defend against.

Alabama and Florida continue on at Number 1 and Number 2 in the nation.

LSU won again, has only 1 LOSS still, and also is CONSIDERABLY better than UGA in the Coach Richt Era.

Texas undefeated and the best football program in the Coach Richt Era.

Boise State won again and clearly is a better football program than UGA in the Coach Richt Era.

Southern California LOST and is still 10 fewer LOSSES than UGA in the Coach Richt Era.

Oklahoma won again, and is still way better than UGA in the Coach Richt Era.

Ohio State won again, and is still way better than UGA in the Coach Richt Era.

Average Number 6 Recruiting Class according to Rivals and Scout.com in Coach Richt Era because the state of Georgia has the 4th most high school football players who go on to the NFL.

WORST “coaching staff” in the nation by far. A lame group of college roommates and buddies who sit around and pray together, but are clueless on offense, special teams and defense; and frankly on recruiting positions which are huge glaring holes on our teams every single year of Coach Richt Era.

41-17.

Abysmal.

Special teams, we cannot even line up 11 players on a field goal try by our “Rival.”

Special teams, we did not even try to field a punt all night long.

Out-rushed 2 to 1.

Again.

LEAD THE NATION IN PENALTIES of all 120 teams.

Coach Richt says “when I was at Florida State, we led the nation in penalties, every year and we did alright.”

Sorry “coaching” of our boys.

The real shame is we have some real talent on this team. Players who will play in the NFL.

You’d NEVER KNOW IT, watching them play here the way we “coach” them.

121 arrests and suspensions in the Coach Richt Era. 2 more this week, Georgia week, our “Rival” Florida calls it. Coach Richt didn’t even SUSPEND 1 of the 2 arrested THIS WEEK.

LEAD THE NATION IN TURNOVERS of all 120 teams.

Our players tackle and throw down their opponents, standing beyond the 5 foot white out-of-bounds lines LOSING by 4 touchdowns.

Our players can not even be told which 11 are supposed to be on the field against a field goal try.

Our players get up after a play is over and hit, push, shove, jaw at our opponents and have no respect for anything but looking like a bunch of thugs who are poor sports.

We purposely knock down our Opponents’ Heisman Trophy Quarterback AFTER THE PLAY IS WHISTLED DEAD without him even having the football. 5 seconds after the play would have been legal.

EMBARRASSING.

We run players out there willy-nilly like in Week 8 we do NOT YET KNOW who should be our running back. Take the redshirt off 1 of the running backs touted as 1 of the top in the nation, in week 6 with 3 quarters of the game OVER. Before that, we got to watch KNOWSHON MORENO play only 2 years here before the NFL took him with the Number 7 pick in the 1st Round. But, our “offensive coaches” cannot figure out that he should NOT BE REDSHIRTED.

Special teams kick-off returns, we got the ball to the 9 or 11 yard line all night long. Nice.

What kind of special teams’ coaching is that ?

We allowed a 56 yard field goal against us, LOSING by 4 touchdowns.

I presume our “coaching staff” did not feel that we should be trying to block that 1 with AJ Green.

Interviewed Coach Richt at half time and they ask how do they get AJ Green more involved in the offense. Coach Richt says throw the ball to him more. Excuse me, who is the offensive coordinator any more for this team, Coach Richt since that is YOUR STOCK IN TRADE for your CALLING, sir.

4-4.

UNRANKED.

Every team starting 1997 for UGA has been ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 25.

NOT THIS YEAR.

NOT that we should have been ranked in the Final AP Poll Top 25 in 2001, in 2006, in 2008, and in 2009.

Coach Richt says that our FANS DO NOT KNOW.

Fans of UGA number the 5th most in the nation who spend the 3rd most on team gear and we get this “coaching staff” the average Number 6 recruiting ranking by EVERY SOURCE including Rivals and Scout.com.

We travel better than every team in the nation.

BUT WE DO NOT KNOW, Coach Richt whines after EVERY LOSS.

So, he sends his players out there in an us against the world mentality and NO GAME PLAN. Instead, he is OFF WATCHING HIS SON play Division III football.

5 touchdowns, half of his total in his career, every year scored against UGA by Tim Tebow. 1 player on their entire team to defend against. And, he scores 4 more touchdowns against us this year.

NOT A CARE IN THE WORLD.

Take your furlough day off and your “coaching staff” and then go watch Division III football games out of state, instead of figuring it out how you have a LOSING RECORD against top teams and a LOSING RECORD against 2 teams from The SEC East and The SEC West in your 8 years and 8 weeks here in the Coach Richt Era of WORTHLESS “coaching staff.”

4 of 12 on 3rd down conversions by the offensive offense. On 3rd and long the announcers are left saying, the reason why UGA is calling a running play (WITHOUT A RUNNING BACK) is that they are AFRAID to ask their 4 Top 10 Quarterbacks in the nation to throw the ball downfield.

Yank Joe Cox whom Coach Richt has repeatedly said is HIS QUARTERBACK. Really Coach Richt, have you coached him yourself 1 damn minute in his 5 years here ? Doesn’t look like it.

Put in another Top 10 Quarterback, also not coached, and he throws the football 3 yards from his end zone to the best player on Florida’s defense. Not a receiver for UGA in the picture.

Nice.

At least we can put to rest that the NEXT COACHING STAFF at my alma mater can move along to Aaron Murray and forget this crap that we have coached and brought along Logan Gray with his 1 play for 3 games experience, all running plays.

At least we got Logan Gray in there to find that out.

Now.

Aaron Murray will play here what ?

2 years like Knowshon Moreno.

Logan Gray zero for 3 on passes, with a PICK 6 interception and a SACK.

Great coaching to finally let him play in a game, Coach Richt.

Jerk.

3 passes.

We threw 3 passes to AJ Green.

We tried a 4th pass, out of 70 plays, but it was into quad coverage. 4 Florida players man on man against AJ Green on the play. A 5th who jumped up trying to disrupt the pass in flight before it got to him and a 6th who was just to the left of that defender. And, we threw the ball to him anyway.

Nice play call their Coach Richt, who has MADE HIS CALLING in THIS WORLD as play caller, offensive coordinator and Quarterbacks’ Coach.

Only had 4 punts.

That is an improvement.

We are like a Vandy now, where our best player is visibly our DAMN PUNTER.

Only had 4 punts, because we never had the ball because we lead the nation in penalties playing BAD BOYS and therefore cannot sustain a drive, and because we lead the nation in turnovers and don’t have to punt when you turn the football over every series on offense.

But, of course, it is just Willie Martinez who has to go.

B.S.

17 wins 20 LOSSES against Final AP Poll Top 25 teams that year we played them in the Coach Richt Era.

15-17 LOSING RECORD against LSU, Auburn, vols and Florida combined in Coach Richt Era.

Well, well, well. All hell has broken lose around the weenie dawg nation. Quick, hit the panic button. I’m thinking “reap what you sew.” For those of you who are calling for the canning of Richt, I seem to recall a time when you constantly ridiculed UF during the Zook era and GT during the Gailey era. You made a mockery of players like Reggie Ball and laughed at UFs multitude of disciplinary problems. Now the tables have turned. You weenie dawgs have what you deem a subpar quarterback and yall now have the team full of thugs. Doesn’t feel so good now does it? Well I sit back and laugh because instead of worrying about Gailey and his boys and Zook and his boys, you should have been taking a long hard look at your team and realizing that Richt’s style of coaching was never going to lead you weenies to dominance in the SEC. And you definitely should not be even dreaming of a National Championship.

I guess you weenie fans think like your weenie dawg players and coaches. You think that people will run in fear if you bark hard enough and bully people with your silly worthless jeers and antics. Well think again. You weenies are all bark and no bite. Many of the players and coaches have no integrity and neither do a lot of you fans. If you did, you would be concerned with supporting your team and rallying them to play better instead of taking cheap shots at Tech and Florida fans and players. At the end of the day you are still losers, and that cheap shot that made you temporarily feel good will fade when you are reminded again and again that the weenie dawgs are nothing and will continue to be nothing if they don’t change their mentalities on and off the field , their methods of preparation and/or their coaching staff.

You fans and your players have your priorities mixed up. Proof: When the weenies were winning , Richt and the thugs were your heroes. The Black jerseys were a great idea then. There wasn’t much complaining about Richt’s coaching style and the gimmicks when you thought those things were working. And Finally, to your lovely little weenie boys. When former UGA weenie dawg players were asked recently what their most memorable moment was, an overwhelming number of them stated “Celebrating in the endzone against Florida in 2007.” Now what’s wrong with that picture? Well let me spell it out for those of you who can’t figure it out. Instead of being proud about winning an SEC Championship or just being proud of beating Florida in 2007, winning just didn’t matter to them. What mattered most to them and the thing that they want all of you weenie fans, family, and friends to remember is that they showed up the UF players with the childish 3rd grade field day endzone celebration. Wow what great character the weenies have!! They really represent UGA and the Weenie Nation well. You must be so proud of them and most of all you must be proud of yourselves. Congrats!!!!!!!! And if for any moment anyone wants to question what I am saying, look back over any past posts to any of these blogs and any responses that will follow my post, and you weenies will simply prove to be your own worst enemies much like your little weenie dawgs did Saturday against the Gators.

I cannot figure out why UGA does not take those speedsters on the special team (i.e. Boykin) and use them on offense. Just having that speed on the field and not on the bench would be a great balance with the pass catching threat of AJ. Georgia needs to open it up with a solid running game. Georgia also needs a running Quarterback who is a threat. Tebow is a clumsy runner, but he just topped Herschel. Georgia has no balance.

Being at the game and seeing the way our teams acts on the field is an embarrassment. Ealey and King and others constantly dancing to every light thug rap song tells you the kind of players we are moding…Ritch can not keep discipline in check. Even when we brought it to 14-10, he had to do stupid celebration dance on the sidelines…it just fired up the florida players even more and they put another quick 10 points on us after that. Ritch has lost my confidence as a coach and leader. The UGA team is totally out of control and in its worst downward spiral in years. I don’t think I have heard so many analyst on ESPN and talk shows disrespect the Georgia program like this. Even in the Golf and Donan years, we were not known as undisciplined thugs as we are now. BTW, Logan Gray screwed the team by not catching the fair catch on the 10 yard line as well. Why put a player back there to catch the ball who does not want to catch it? Another huge error…he could have caught it on the 10, instead it rolled to the 2 1/2. In addition, he is not the quarterback of the future and should transfer somewhere where he can play instead of pulling Joe Cox where coach felt obligated to give him the starting position because he waited around 4 years. You can’t recruit these guys who are 6 foot tall or smaller and expect them to be able to pass in this league. Cox’s passes have been batted down all season long.

On one of the other blogs someone said that Cutcliffe has done better with a lot less at Duke. Well that may be true, but Duke doesn’t play Florida, and the point is: If UGA is looking for a replacement for Richt they need to be very careful. The grass is always greener somewhere else, but from a Tech and Georgia fan perspective, we got Chan Gailey for 6 years, and that was about as painful as you can get. Let’s hope all UGA fans will get behind Richt and wait out this 2 year misery and look forward to returning to what the team was 3-4 years ago.

They have to have something to focus on other than the reality of losing 17 out of 20 to you guys. They don’t have excuses like the refs or injuries this time, so it has to be something else. Pretty much an indication of their lack of class.

Simply put it is time for Martinez to go and for Coach Richt to evaluate the team as a whole. Bobo should stay because he did have the offense ready to go and with exception of the interceptions and penalties, the team was moving the pigskin. Certainly discipline is lacking on the team and I am not sure how the coach corrects it but it needs to be done. Hopefully, the boys can come out of the season with 7 wins. Memphis here we come. The tribal dancing when behind, the same inexcusable penalties, the arena league gimmicks with uniforms (don’t compare our situation with Oregon please), and the same blowout losses that have become a Richt tradition…..
We will NEVER beat Florida again under him and at BEST we can hope we can now split with Tech over the next 10 years. This is not knee-jerk, folks, what have you seen in the 4 seasons to suggest otherwise? A win over Hawaii?

UGA’s administration (Adams, Evans, Richt) need to decide whether they want to invest in a proven coaching staff. When Richt arrived, he had the luxury of putting together the staff that he wanted. I don’t think any of us can complain about those initial coaching decisions. The problems seemed to arrive when Richt had to make replacements.

When he replaced himself as O.C., did he look for a proven commodity? No – let’s give Bobo a shot. He played QB here and he’s a good kid. Let’s see if he can get it done. The result: an offense that relies solely on playmaking ability due to a predictable and uninspired scheme. The competition: when having to replace his O.C., Nick Saban brings in an innovative and experienced coach from Fresno State who transforms a second rate QB (JPW) into a division champ and national championship contender.

When he replaced Van Gorder as D.C., did he hire an experienced, proven coordinator. No – let’s give Willie a chance. I’ve known him since high school. We get along real well and he’s done a nice job with the secondary. The result: a meandering, clueless effort on defense that leads to top-notch athletes performing at the bottom of their conference. The competition: after a one-year poor effort by the internally promoted crew who replaced Bo Pelini, Les Miles hires John Chavis to lead LSU’s defense.

“Promote from within” is a mentality at some institutions (athletic and otherwise). In a large organization with multiple tiers, that can work out fine as people have an opportunity to feel their way along and learn from others. But it doesn’t work so well on a small coaching staff. Rather than hiring and paying people to do what they’re good at, UGA seems in the rut of hiring people and hoping they become good at it. And that includes silly promotions to justify pay increases like Jancek to Co-DC and Searles to “running game coordinator”.

I have a couple questions about Richt and this administration:
- Will UGA spend the money necessary to hire proven coordinators and coaches?
- Is Richt capable of effectively hiring and inspiring a seasoned assistant coaching staff? Or is he a coordinator in the head coach’s office?

WILL MUSCHAMP is still making less than $1 million per season as Texas’ defensive coordinator and head coach in-waiting. Would you sit around for 10+ years waiting for Mack Brown to retire (while your good efforts as a LEADING DC ironically prolong that decision), or would you come home to Georgia, recruit the state like a mad man (and stay out of the south Florida housing projects), coach your players up to their potential, make UGA a respectable football program again and a NATIONAL TITLE CONTENDER – and then run for governor? Oh, and you’ll be making $2.5-$3.5 million per season rather than your current salary. Damon Evans, pick up the phone and do what’s needed – I don’t believe that money will be an issue!!

Let’s get this out of the way. The better team won the game.

It’s the matter the way UGA played (or rather failed to compete) with FLA for 4 quarters that is not acceptable. A loss should never be acceptable, but some are to be expected when facing a superior team like FLA poised for a National Championship run.

UGA has much bigger issues than Joe Cox, penalties, discipline, etc. Its the program, starting with CMR. It’s the schemes, the recruiting, the type of players, etc.

If the rest of the year goes the way I think it will…UGA will not be going to a bowl game (which is fine, we don’t deserve it)…but CMR and most of his staff need to be FIRED.

If they are not, we are willing to accept MEDIOCRITY in an SEC where others are getting better while UGA is constantly regressing. We went 10-3 last year with 2 NUMBER 1 draft picks on offense (I guess we really understand how much better Stafford and Moreno are than the garbage that took their place).

UGA = Flawed Program (and it pains me to watch as a UGA fan, but I won’t stick my head in the sand like others who refuse to recognize the signs of decay that are eating away at the Dawgs Football Program.

Watching CMR getting on the ref after a late hit out of bounds was a joke. He should’ve been getting on his player’s a$$ instead of the ref. That is what is wrong with this program. No discipline and sorry coaching. Gary Patterson at TCU would be a great hire at GA, because CMR looks like he has lost his passion for UGA.

Supes

On offense, UGA should be starting Aaron Murray out of the SHOTGUN, with 3-4 wide and a SINGLE tailback on EVERY play. Spread the FRAKING field. We have the skill position guys (granted most are young, but we have nothing to lose, so play the KIDS now). Line up AJ, Tavares, Rontavious and Marlon Brown out, but Ealey back there (as a single back) and just go for it. Develop the offensive talent you have. Why is CMR insistant on running a PRO style offense when the Personnel ISN’T Here? That’s what I don’t get (from x-o’s) point of view with Richt. Look at Meyer (as much as I dislike him), the guy is willing to change the offense based on the PLAYERS available to him. Not Richt…he’ll run the same unimaginative Sh*t every game. It only works when you have the PLAYERS. Unreal.

(aside from that, those who don’t want to spread the field and play 3-4 wide with a single tailback) then WHY recruit players that DON’T fit into the Pro style offense?

Where is our 230lb tailback (our version of Charles Scott, or Dwyer), where is the 6-4QB (like a Ryan Mallet) that are BUILT to run a pro style offense?

Instead we have a sub 200lb RB and a QB who can barely see over the line and looks overmatched and lacks the ARM strength to play in a pro style set.

Why isn’t anyone talking about this? (any CMR backers care to debate me?)

I blame Dooley for our Florida problems with some other beat downs we have taken since 1990. He had the chance to go out and hire a top tier coach in 1990 and decided to hire Gump instead. It is hard to over come the seven years and the level of which he sunk the program too. A great hire back in 1990 and the numbers might be a little different. I have tried to find every reason to back our current defensive coaching staff. I can no longer find any good ones. First rule of business: Never hire your friends because one day you may have to fire them. That day has come. I also think Rodney Garner has become very complacent in his position too.

The problem lies within the coaching UGA fans. Your coach has lost his control of this team. He lost the control last year. When you have players getting arrested every week for public drunk, fighting & DUI’s YOU have a problem. I know Dooley is just about ready to have a stroke over all the bad publicity this team has gotten, but you put the blame where it needs to be. You have to have discipline people! The coaching staff can have the best in the nation, but if there is no control or discipline, you have what your team has. So all you UGA fans who want the head of your coaching staff on a stick, send all your e-mails to Dooley; make him do something about what is happening in your own back yard. If you pay coaches millions of dollars & they hand you this type of team every year, you have a problem. Just look at the other coaches within the SEC & the ACC; look at who has discipline with their teams & you will winning teams because of the strict discipline & absolute control the coaching staff have over their teams.

To those of you who are still behind CMR, and who are calling those of us who want him fired idiots, I have this to say.

Obviously you know nothing about football, you know nothing about UGA tradition, and you should not be allowed to say anything to those of us who actually care whats happened to this once great tradition!

Do you think this kind of play would have been tolerated by Vince Dooley? No! By Urban Cryer? No! By Saban? No By Bear Bryant? Heck No! BY paul Johnson? NO! You people know nothing!

You folks who say its not CMR’s fault have no idea what you’re talking about. Each and every program gets its lead from the top dog, pardon the pun, and this teams identity is a direct relection of the headcoach. While most are nice young men, like their coach, on the field they are soft, way too soft, with no fire in their bellies!

Too soft, too many excuses. Too much of an oh well attitude. Its like the man is biding is his time until he gets the FSU job. And I’m sure his players see the lack of fire, the lack of attention to detail, the lack of preperation. CMR cried until he got his bye week before UF. So his awful staff now has two weeks to prepare and this is how we play? This is a joke! And until something changes in Athens, this team is done!

CMR promised changes after last year! These are the changes he promised? How’s that hope and change working for UGA now? Heres a clue for the clueless. Its not working and nothing has changed!

This team is undisciplined, has no real identity and is under coached. As Spurrier said – Georgia gets all these great recruits, and then I don’t know what happens to them.

RED is the primary color of the University of Georgia. Whoever thought up the idea of wearing black pants and black helmets should be fired – right now. Over the years, UGA has remained faithful to the grey pants/red jersey and red helmet style which has become classic, while my alma mater has experimented with uniforms for 40-50 years. What is wrong with the classic gold pants, white shirt and gold helmets. In the late 60s, we even went to old gold, a low point if there ever was one;. Most of his legacy is based on one man the Erk Russell. The offense was not the Junkyard Dawgs. It was all about the the defense.

Also, the thug comments that are being made about the current players are a little uninformed. At least most of these guys are getting a degree. UGA and other schools had the same if not worst problems back in the days of Dooley,Jordan and Bryant. Back then the police worked with the atheletic departments and there was not the internet to broadcast all of the problems. Coach Dooley was a career 8-3 coach with one special player and a GREAT DC. I thought I was resigned to the loss to UFL and that I would just move on this morning and think good thoughts about maybe running the table and finishing 8-4, which wouldn’t be a bad season. A lot of teams would be thrilled with 8-4 and a bowl game – any bowl game.

But now, after seeing the AJC sports this morning and reading the blogs, I’m getting angrier by the hour and reaching the same conclusion that many of the sports writers and bloggers have. The problem is Richt, and it’s not likely to get any better as long as he is head coach at UGA. It’s getting really frustrating to have top ten recruiting classes every year and then having teams that go nowhere and get pumped up when they beat powerhouses like Vanderbilt. And having the players get arrested so many times that UGA is now looked at the same way that Miami and FSU used to be before they cleaned up their act. It would be easier to overlook the players’ thuggish acts if they were winners, but they’re both thugs AND losers on the field.

Richt has to be the one held responsible for all of this. Yes, he’s a nice fellow, but he’s not being paid a ton of money to be nice. He’s being paid to win SEC championships and play in BCS bowls, and those goals are pie-in-the-sky now the way the team is going.

I guess the question is: Are we going to put up with this for another year or two until we’re actually comfortable with being a doormat, or are we going to fire Richt and his staff and bring in a winner now? Based on what I’ve read in the blogs, the alumni and fans are so frustrated and angry that if a vote was taken today, Richt would probably lose.

I’m a lifetime fan and alumnus, and I KNEW we were headed for trouble way back when the thugs SOLD CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS ON E-BAY……and the Head Coach basically slapped them on the wrist!

What would Bear Bryant have done? What would Dooley have done? What would a Lombardi or a Tom Landry done to thug players who dared to do that?

It took awhile, but ALL OF US UGA Fans are seated at a banquet of consequences arising from a nice-guy Head Coach who refuses to instill discipline, so THE THUGS RULE! THUGS attract THUGS!

It pains me to see UGA lose, but maybe Adams, Evans, the big money Athletic Board people (Leeburns) will have a stomach full of the THUG dancing while being stomped, the chest beating after each tackle – often after giving up BIG yards, the stupidity to know when your license expires, the late night antics that make the police blotter, the blame the refs mentality, and the blow-outs.

I agree with the statement that the uniforms didn’t lose the game, the Dawgs could do that well enough in any uniform. If you need a gimmick to motivate players, then there is a real problem with motivation in the first place. I would be happy to never, ever see a uniform change beyond our standard home and away. Its quite embarrassing to see how Alabama came back from the fringe (poor days under Shula and mid-grade recruiting) to pure dominance….oh yea…they didn’t rely on flashy uniform changes either AND the Dawgs have been listing towards mediocrity with every gimmick in the book (with who is supposed to be a top notch coach and high ranked players). We should bench every senior and play underclassmen only. Lets build experience now and realize this ship is sinking this year. At least I live in Birmingham and won’t have to travel for the bowl game…..

That’s what’s really scary about this. We’re kind of like the lobster that was dropped into a pot of cold water, then the teperature went up gradually until the lobster realized too late that it was being boiled alive.

I think most of the fans are beginning to get it, but the danger is that too many people are forgetting the past glories and settling for this state of mediocrity where we celebrate wins over teams like Vanderbilt and just gloss over the losses. That’s really sad.

Normally, firing a head coach in mid-season would be unthinkable, but the situation we’re in is also unthinkable.

Stop the suffering and sack Richt. As others have noted, there are far better coaches out there.

Time for a change and there are better coaches out there. Coach Richt is responsible for the football program at UGA and his inability to make the necessary changes may well cost him his job. But, don’t bet on it. For whatever reason the powers at be, currently and previously, have not insisted that UGA football win at the highest levels If Zook had been at UGA with the same record he had at UF, he’d still be here. The top dawgs want a competitve program but won’t do what’s necessary to be on the same page with Texas, Bama, UF and other elite programs.

Yes we had up and down years under Vince Dooley! But you wanna know something?

At least we played with heart every darn game! Whether that was Vince Dooley, Erk or a combonation of both UGA always played with heart, had discipline and won a lot of games we weren’t supposed to. That cannot be said of any team under Richt, since Greene and Pollack left. UGA was never the embarrassment is now under CMR.

Except for the hob nailed boot game how many big games has Richt really won when his team was not supposed to win. Maybe two others, Alabama one year, and we were the better team and barely won, and maybe two against Auburn, when we were the better team yet not really favored to win? So those wins don’t really count as winning when you’re not supposed to. How does that happen in 9 years of coaching? And how many games have we been blown out? Too many to count, in 9 years of CMR! This is an embarrassment!

This program is now second tier. For some of you boneheads thats ok. For me its not!

I’m just grateful that I wasn’t in Jacksonville for the annual fiasco yesterday. It was hard enough watching it on TV.

I didn’t have enough beer. I’m not sure they make enough beer to make it through an embarrassing game like that.

Black helmets, celebration dances, penalties, turnovers, and more arrests before the game. Can it get any dumber than that?

So we thought the Tennessee game was bad…this was worse…

In my 30+ years of following UGA football, yesterday was one the most embarrassing losses ever….except for the Evil Genius’ pounding in Athens….

A lot of the support and confidence that Dawg fans had for CMR eroded greatly yesterday…..first the black pants, then the black helmets…and that stupid celebration…WHEN YOU ARE LOSING!!!

CMR needs to take a serious look at the program because if you look like it, smell like it and act like it…then you must be it….

I never thought I’d see the day that Florida acted with more class the Georgia…

Absolutely embarrassing…

Please help me out with this:
We had 2 weeks to prepare and we came out the same vanilla offense. We ran ZERO new offensive plays.
I really hoped we would see some new formations, reverses, maybe a receiver going in motion, maybe a 4 receiver set…ANYTHING AT ALL !
We also came out with no changes in the Defensive scheme…what a piss poor plan.
The only difference I saw with 2 weeks to prepare was the hideous black helmet and pants. unreal….

The only bright spot was Blair Walsh kicicking deep and Drew Butler continuing his excellent punting.

I have had enough.

The winner of this game was never in question – no way the dogs had enough to beat the Gators. The bigger question was if Tim Tebow was going to break the SEC TD record against herschel’s dogs. Now I don’t know if TEBOW > herschel, I happen to think so because a QB has way more influence/responsibility than a RB (TT has also thrown for close to 80 TDs). But dog fans please quit using that lame excuse that herschel played only 3 years while Touchdown Timmy for all 4. It doesn’t matter how many years you play, instead the number of rushing attempts would be a more accurate measure. In herschel’s 3 years he ran the ball 994 times for 49 TDs (54 if you count his bowl TDs – that will fall too). In TEBOW’s 4th year after 8 games he has 614 rushes. That is 380 fewer rushing attempts than 3 year herschel!!!! TEBOW averages an incredible1 TD per every 12 rushes while herschel had a respectable TD per 20 rushes. If Timmy were to carry the ball 380 more times he would have 31 more rushing touchdowns for a total of 82. So if you want to say it is difficult to say who was the best – that is fine, just don’t try to put an asterisk on the SEC RUSHING TD record because that belongs to the one and only TIMMY TEBOW. ——— GO GATORS

I don’t believe the players are to blame. Many teams with less talent do better. We certainly have plenty of talent. And what did we achieve last year when we had Stafford and Moreno?

And to be fair to the players, we did hang with FL, the #1 team in the nation, for 3 quarters.

If we look at our weaknesses, they pretty much all go back to coaching:

1. Poor tackling = coaching
2. Penalties = coaching
3. Poor decision making by the QB = coaching
4. Having less than a full squad during a field kick= coaching
5. Putting Logan Gray in at your own end zone against a great defense = coaching
6. Giving up 2 touchdowns in the first 2 possessions of the game, after having a week off to prepare for the game = coaching
7. Not having your team psyched up for big games= coaching.

There is a basic lack of discipline, and I certainly think that both Bobo and WM are in over their heads.

But I also think that Richt has not show the motivational abilities that a great coach should have.

He will likely, and should, get another year to turn around this program. Hick-ups/transitions happen.

I believe the “excessive celebration” call at the end of the LSU game was a pivotal point in our season. Great coaches should be able to refocus teams after such losses. Mark Richt has been unable to do that.

Gatorboy – you’re right that it’s stupid to argue. Both sides have their points but why are people comparing a QB to a RB anyway? Herschel was the best college RB in history and Tebow may be the best multi-dimensional college QB in history (I’m not debating it – I just don’t care enough to compare him to others in history like Eric Crouch and Tommie Frazier).

The bottom line is that Tebow has the record – and he’ll likely have more TDs than Herschel including the bowl games by the end of the season. How many games/carries is irrelevant.

STOP PUTTING THIS ENTIRELY ON THE COACHES

At the end of 2007…this team was #2 in the nation, and if not for a few lucky plays for UT against UK and Vandy, I really believe the Dawgs would have won the SEC Championship and won it all that year. How can they have fallen from that high point to this low point so fast???

The coaching staff is still the same…the players must be held accountable…the talent is just not there. When you don’t generate a rush with your DL…bad things happen folks!!! When you don’t have a running game and when you start a guy like Joe Cox at QB who can’t check down to open receivers…you are going to be inconsistent on offense, are going to have a lot of turnovers, and that puts a LOT of pressure on the defense.

Sure, the coaching could be and should be better, but they have proven in the recent past, that with the right talent, they can coach a team to be in the thick of the SEC/National title races.

If you have to resort to stupid gimmicks to help motivate the top ranked team in the country and oh yeah a team that has beat you senseless for more than a decade you are in a lot of trouble. Raleigh

Eric C. – agreed that it’s not all on the coaches. But good/great teams win with a combination of talent and scheme. Unfortunately, UGA seems to have to rely solely on talent these days. Surely you don’t believe that GT has better offensive talent than UGA? Surely you wouldn’t argue that 10 other teams in the SEC have better defensive talent than UGA?

Because UGA hasn’t evolved in its coaching strategies, their schemes have become tired and predictable. Opposing coaches have no problem game-planning for UGA to take advantage of that predictability. And the schemes applied by those coaches seem to completely confuse both UGA’s players and coaches (see UT this year, Bama and even UK last year).

Look…even Saint Urban thinks Georgia has talent on D…he was quoted as saying so before the game…so where do the problems start?

This reason for this season is this…the offense lost confidence in the QB…the defense lost confidence in the offence…and the team began to fall apart…and the coaches have not been effective enough to stop this…they have lost this team….

It is very evident that Tennessee is a better coached team…funny to say that now…and, as stated earlier, Florida showed more class…still can’t get over that…

We are not disciplined…we are not smart…we look bad….and are doing bad things….and a quickly becoming a bad team….

We have D-1 talent…they are not getting D-1 instruction or coaching at this time….

that kinda sums up this team and coaching staff. No discipline and poorly coached. I don’t want to hear there’s no talent. The Dawg’s recruiting classes have been in the top 5 or so in the nation consistently. It’s what you do with the talent. I’d like to see a little fire in the gut of the coaches; show that you care. How about “teaching” on the sideline when a player shows a lack of discipline with a dumb procedure penalty or personal foul; that starts with the head coach. Two ex-dawgs at Texas & Bama that might deserve taking a chance on……

of Ealey by Spikes? I would throw him off the. Surely the commissioner will do something? This is blatantly unacceptable conduct.

If the commissioner does not suspend this guy for the rest of the season, it is simply further evidence of the scheme to insure Florida gets to the national championship game. What a joke unless immediate action is taken.

Give some credit to Tebow, without whom it would have been a close game. That said, Goergia played in the unfortunate manner we are becoming accustomed to, wasting talent and opportunities by making mistake after mistake. We will not win against Auburn, Tech or even Kentucky if we play like that. It’s a sad state the program is in. It’s on CMR to make it right.

They have hired my wife too as we make such a cute couple sitting on a couch pitching furniture. That is the reason I have a year-round tan and wear sunglasses at all games, even night games. Plus I hate the way those headphones I wear mess up my hair. I keep having to fluff it up during the game to keep it looking good. So long to all you UGA suckers…errr I mean supporters, who have paid me millions of dollars for pretty much nothing. When you visit Carpets of Dalton tell them CMR sent you. As a Bama fan, it never gives me pleasure to see the Gators win, but, as a SEC fan, I felt sorry for The Dawgs. As bad as some want to paint Cox, the culprits, to me, are the staff. The Georgia players are so undisciplined it pains the casual observer. The defensive scheme was nowhere near where it should have been and the poor play cannot be blamed on (lack of) talent. Underachieving is a product of coaching and some changes have to be made or UGA will continue to flounder….

Richts bag of tricks was apparently empty after the first blackout. It is over.

If they do can him…don’t we have to pay him through 2012 or something?

Surely a new coach could come in and install a simplistic offense (like our current 8 unsuccessful plays aren’t!) for a few games. A “do whatever you want” approach on D would be better than Martinez’s BS.

ALL of the coaches need to be replaced. Can you fire a volunteer coach? If not they should be arrested for loitering.

Even if they finish out the season the AD needs to be at the Falcons game tonight with contract in hand and giving Gruden a tour of his new facilities tomorrow.

It is so simple to fix the root cause of UGA’s demise….a complete lack of discipline and too many players who long for individual promotion versus the team winning a game. Bench Rashad Jones for the rest of the year and you will immediately improve the team. He is the most undisciplined player in the history of UGA football. Tell the players they better not celebrate one tackle, one catch, one TD, one deflected pass, one decent play of any kind until the game is OVER! If they violate this rule, they are benched for the game. Just play all out every play and get ready for the next play. When you score, hand the ball to the ref and return to the sideline…act like you have done it before and quit the showboating! Play with EMOTION on the INSIDE! It was pathetic to watch UGA’s players on the sideline dancing and calling out the Gators while they were LOSING! Meyer and Saban and DOOLEY would never allow such behavior. They DEMAND and receive discipline from every player. CMR and his staff have lost the fear factor of their players and that is not a good thing. There must be some accountability demanded of the players…for reference on what happens without accountability, see the Ray Goff era.

OK– I am torn beween the two schools–2 kids at UGA and 2 at UF–I live in Gainesville, and can only tell you that in my opinion what seperates the two schools right now is coaching and discipline. Meyer would NEVER play anybody who lacks the discipline UGA players have. And yes, they do act like FSU players, so maybe the history is there. Already this morning, Meyer is “reviewing” the Spikes tape. However, whatever his faults, he is NFL bound for huge $$, and is first team all-american. If you have ever been in the trenches playing, you know that that happens–on all sides. He shouldn’thave done it–and that’s that. He will pay for it under Urban. NO UF player wants to be on Urban’s bad side–even Tebow.

On the other hand, what will MR do to get discipline for all the unsportsmanlike things done during the game? Brag that they had the same issues at FSU! That statement says it all. He doesn’t have a clue.

It’s a shame because I pull for UGA whenever they play (if it’s not the Gators). But NO-ONE wants to play in such a big game every year when the outcome is 90% assured before the game starts. And if UGA doesn’t get it fixed quick, it will affect you for years in the recruiting area–and that takes years to have a number #1 again.

So–Good luck to you DAWGS– I wish you luck in fixing your team! It’s no fun winning against a team that doesn’t have their best game-face on.

Here is a follow up on my earlier comments–What Would MR Have Done?

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Florida coach Urban Meyer has suspended Brandon Spikes for the first half of Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt after the star linebacker attempted to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey in a 41-17 victory.

Meyer says Spikes was retaliating after getting his eye poked earlier in the game.

Spikes is fourth on the team with 42 tackles and has three sacks.

He decided to return for his senior season instead of entering the NFL draft. The team’s defensive captain has missed most of two games this season with an injured groin. He played only a series against Arkansas and sat out the entire game at Mississippi State on Oct. 24.
