Oh and Mr. Neyland, when did UT produce it’s first 1,000 yard rusher? Who cares about “how many passes HW threw”?
Herschel was a running back. The best ever. No one doubts that if he’d stayed for his senior year he would have walked away with the all-time collegiate rushing record. When UGA came onto the field, EVERYONE knew what they were going to do. Teams keyed against the run but Georgia would keep on pounding it out. Some games Herschel would get hundreds of yards and others not quite as many, but there was NO DOUBT how Georgia was going to come at their opponent, but no one stopped it. Few others even slowed it down.

Some Gator above says that Tebow is going to break “the record.” More like “a record.” Tebow hasn’t ground out his yards up and down the field and then punch it in. This isn’t the only record Walker owns in the SEC.

Some fool above said neither Herschel nor Tebow will/did do anything in the NFL. While it remains to be seen for Mr. Tebow:

In 12 NFL seasons, Walker gained 8,225 rushing yards, 4,859 receiving yards, and 5,084 kickoff-return yards.[11] This gave him 18,168 total combined net yards, ranking him second among the NFL’s all-time leaders in total yardage at the time of his retirement; as of the start of the 2007 NFL season, ten years after his retirement, he still ranks eighth.[12] He also scored 84 touchdowns: 61 rushing, 21 receiving and two kick off returns for touchdowns.[11] Walker is the only player to have 10,000+ yards from scrimmage and 5,000+ return yards (all of which were on kickoff returns). He is the only player to gain 4,000 yards three different ways: rushing, receiving, and kickoff returns. He is one of six players (Jim Brown, Lenny Moore, Marcus Allen, Marshall Faulk, and Thurman Thomas) to exceed 60 touchdowns rushing and 20 touchdowns receiving. Another NFL record he possesses is that he is the only player with a 90+ yard reception, 90+ yard run, and a 90+ yard kickoff return all in the same season (1994). That same day, he had 100 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving. Walker is currently ranked eighth all time in all-purpose yards with 18,168, despite spending his first three seasons in the USFL.

Folks inside the 5 Tebow is a fullback..most of the time with another fullback blocking for him as well as the O line…hell he’s bigger than most fullbacks..he is the best passing fullback of all time granted..

Tebow is QB you backyard bum, not a RB. It is much more impressive that a QB is scoring all of these TD’s than a RB. HW has his place, but TT is a legend in the making. Both do have in common that their NFL careers will be shortlived.

The game has evolved in the 30 years since Herschel left. D lineman are no longer 225 lbs like they were back in the 80’s. Should we take that into cosideration?

Let’s just look at UGA…

Their linebackers in 1980 were 5′10″ 205lb, 6′0″ 201, and their biggest was 6′2″ 218lb

Let’s compare that to today… 6′3″ 255lb, 5′11″ 225 lb, 6′0″ 240lb

As long as we are giving out a handicap to Herschel lets give Tebow some credit too. How is Herschel’s MMA contract?
