Joe Cox says Mike Bobo brings energy to the sideline. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)
There wasn’t any real news coming out of today’s Touchdown Club of Athens luncheon with Mark Richt, with the coach saying the off week is mainly a time for the Dogs to work on fundamentals and get in some sustained time in the weight room. He expected his staff to begin implementing the Florida game plan in today’s practice, with most of the work on that to begin on Sunday.
Richt did say he really liked the way his team dealt with adversity the week after the loss to Tennessee and bounced back mentally and emotionally. “We probably had more emotion in that Vanderbilt game than any Vanderbilt game I’ve ever seen,” he said.
As is the tradition at the annual lunch meeting of the Touchdown Club, Richt brought along a couple of players, this time senior leaders Joe Cox and Jeff Owens.
Cox was asked by my brother Jon about how it was having Mike Bobo on the sideline instead of up in the booth and the quarterback said, “I really liked it,” especially the “energy” that Bobo brought. “He’s a competitor … he hates losing.”
Cox said it was quite different dealing with Bobo in person rather than on the phone, where “sometimes you can barely hear them.” Said Cox with a laugh: “If you messed up, he was right there on the sideline.”
He also cracked that when the 65-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Green comes up in the future, “I’m not gonna tell everyone it was only a 1-yard pass.”
Talking about the upcoming Florida game, a club member jokingly asked Cox if the team had worked up any celebration plans in the event Georgia scores first. “No,” Cox said with a grin, “I don’t think we want to kick off from the 7 any more.”
But when asked the key to beating Florida, Cox immediately answered, “Passion. We need to get a couple of big plays as a spark and then keep it going.”
As for the best approach to tackling Tim Tebow, Owens agreed that it’s hitting him low. (He put it more colorfully than that, but since Richt was nervous about them providing bulletin board material for the Gators, I’ll leave it at that.)
Looking to the future, Cox took the opportunity to lobby Richt for a chance to be a graduate assistant next season and added, “I think I could be a pretty good coach one day.”
As for Owens, he hopes to play in the NFL but after that, he said, “hopefully one day I’ll be coaching like Joe. Or have a job like Larry Munson.”
The latter wouldn’t surprise me at all.
Now it’s back to vacation for me. I’ll be back on Monday.

Hope the Dawgs are using this off-week to their best advantage to plan strategy and practice what they’ll need to do against Florida. Hope they’re not spending all of their ‘bonus’ time just lifting weights. I would hope they’re using every minute to put together some new plays on both offense and defense. Come on Dawgs! Don’t be wasting any valuable time! BEAT FLORIDA!

There’s no need to pile on Joe Cox. He may not be the most talented signal caller we’ve ever had but he’s far from being the biggest reason for our troubles this season. If he had even an average running game to support him, he’d probably look a lot more effective.

Some perspective on UGA football: When Mark Richt came to UGA and turned our program around, winning an SEC Championship after a decade drought and putting UGA football back on the map of contenders every year for 8 years, we all loved CMR and he loved us. He even was willing to sign a contract extension making it financially unfeasible to be hired by FSU or Miami because he and his family felt they had found a home at UGA. During his 9 years of coaching, he has NEVER been fickle to UGA, but we, as fans, have been fickle to him. And this year is the worst I’ve ever seen. For now, we need to support Coach Mark Richt and the UGA football team. GO DAWGS!!!

This weekend concerns me. What with the dawgs being off, I am concerned that a few players might “act up” and not behave in the manner expected of college atheletes. If BAD news comes out of Athens, or elsewhere, the tone will be set for the Fla. game, and it will be a big FLAT game.
In any event, I have changed my tone and call me blindly optimistic, BUT, I believe if the dawgs, and coaches go all out, and the SEC refs don’t hand it to the gators, we DO have a good chance of racking up the Gators. GO DAWGS!

GeoffDawg is 100% right! Cox may not be the most prolific passer we have ever had but he plays with alot of heart. Aside from the OK State game, the passing the ball hasn’t been our achilles heal, even in Tennessee. Without a running game or a defense, we cannot win against most teams. Cox is a kid who is playing with a lot of heart and passion. Support him or find another team to pull for.

Cox is dead on the money! We match FU’s athleticism and coaching. The passion for winning affects game play tremendously in college games. That’s why we watch and prefer college ball over pros. These kids will realise experiences of their lifetime while we just observe. We get carried away and cheer lustily. The players get carried away and create great memories that last their lifetimes. The fans are powerless to affect the game except to scream louder than our adversaries, but those Dawgs in the trenches are screaming louder inside themselves.
Our Dawgs put on their unis the same as all teams. You never see what’s inside until their team passion shows. For all of you who are concerned that every minute isn’t occupied with a new trick play when they practice…..cool it! They are doing other game related activities when not on the field. Game film is important for the players to observe the weak moves by the opposing team and to understand the plays that the coaches have poneyed up to defeat them. They will understand the connection when pulling a tackle in a certain direction due to an observed weakness in the opposition. Less practice on the field is required when the players have the confidence of their coached moves. If you look at the players on each team, they match up. We can beat FU on a mam-to-man basis any game , but without that passion that gives confidence in game play, it won’t be translated as such. Joe is correct. The heart of college football is passion. GO DAWGS… and stick it to them with passion! We can only cheer vicariously as you perform with your heart.

It is never as bad, nor as good as you think, but I have been reading this blog all year and I must say the naysayers who are quick to jump on Cox and oust Richt may be closer to the truth than the living in the past, whole body of work optimist. These are some dark days that are coming ahead. We consistently rank Top 10 in recruits, but can’t transform any of that talent to the next level. Are we relying to heavily on what Rivals deems top prospects versus what vision we have for players that fit our system? I am having trouble determining why Richt can do so little with so much while coaches like Peterson at Boise can do so much with so little? Don’t give me apples and oranges about SEC and other conferences, talent has been squandered year in year out. The icing on the cake though is the penalties. Do the players no longer respect the Coaches, or do the Coaches no longer prioritize this, or is it the fact that we have a bunch of players who lack character? As for game planning for Florida you better hope most if not all of the following take place. Jacksonville and Gainesville Flood forcing the game to Athens, During which the Denfensive bus for the Gators if detained, while the Tebow accepts a mission trip to South America, and we throw to AJ 97% of plays. Richt best of luck don’t put the house on the market yet, but rest assured that Willie is gone and never has a house cleaning righted a ship. The columns always suck too. King has the worst reporting all time, with how poor the AJC is doing I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a free contributor.

In 1997 we were about a 20 point underdog, and we won by about 20. We had Robert Edwards though, and he was a wee bit better than #22, #4 and #24. Cox is the best option that we have at QB, period. You don’t think the coaches would put in someone else if they thought it would give us a better chance to win? Whatever. To suggest putting in Murray and wasting his redshirt at this point in the season is truly laughable, in addition to the fact that he would probably struggle mightily to be thrown to the wolves against the number 1 ranked team in the nation. Cox ain’t Joe Montana, but he is servicable. It wouldn’t hurt Cox’s chances of looking a little better if Georgia had any semblence of a running game, which they do not. Bobo won’t commit to establishing one, and the blocking and the running by the backs is lousy. If we could run the ball, I believe that we would have a reasonable chance against the Gators, who in my humble opinion are not nearly as good offensively as they were last year. As we cannot run the ball, and as we will not commit to trying to run the ball, I think our chances are slim. I will be there though, urging the Dawgs to GATA.

Has anyone seen how Florida has played in their last two outings? 13-3 against LSU and 24-20 against Arkansas. Not looking as potent as they once were. Tennessee, LSU and Arkansas has provided a blueprint for success against Florida (even in defeat). All UGA has to do now is implement that blueprint and EXECUTE…. Its the execution that worries me…
We can sit here and blame Joe for our woes, but Joe isn’t out there missing tackles on defense nor is he dropping passes that are between the numbers (albeit few and far between).
Passion going into Jacksonville is absolutely a must, but PENALTY FREE football is even more important.

Oledawg!
You say we match UF’s coaching? And players? Urban Meyer and Charlie Strong. Who matches them on our staff?
Tebow, Demps, and Haden. Who matches them on our roster? Joe Cox matches Tebow? He does? Come now. That is homerism taken to the nth degree. Cox is not going to be a Sunday player. Tebow is. I rest my case.
In 1980, opponents running backs put on their unis just like Herschel did. Maybe I better not think you can read between the lines. I don’t know you. Herschel is to then as Tebow is to now. They may put on their unis same as we but the legs, arms and bodies that go into them are vastly disparate.
I remember listening to the post game news conference of Charlie Pell (UF HC when Herschel was playing) and saying we played our best but couldn’t stop the guy. That’s the point I’m trying to make, Oledawg. We can play our best but do we win? Unlikely. Outcoached and outmanned.
I’m afraid you are delusional. Yes, I want us to win as badly as you do. But being realistic is the better approach. Does that mean that we CAN’T win? No. It means that it is highly unlikely that we will.
Deal with it.

Averaging 27? Yes you are. Passion against Vandy? Absolutely. Florida Defense? Best in the country, averaging 8 points allowed per game and have only given up 4 Touchdowns. Passion is not going to score a lot of points against that D and the Dawg D is the worst they have had in years so it is not going to happen. Score more than 10 and give them a game this year then you can go home with your heads up and have a moral victory. Stafford, Moreno, #1 Pre-Season Dawgs = 49-10

dawg4life, really, when have you seen our coaches call plays against against anyone that you saw a team previously use successfully? Richt believes his “system is fine if the players execute.” I happen to believe UT quaterback Jonathan Compton when he said after the game, “they (UGA) did exactly what we thought they would do.” And Kiffin said several days before the game, “they’ve (UGA) been doing the same thing for years and years.” In short, don’t count on any “blueprint” changes.

I have to say that I’m perplexed over us using this rare open week before UF with “lifting weights.” I also find it bizzare that we aren’t going to work on a game plan in any depth until Sunday. Lie to me Mark. Lie to me. Don’t tell me you are that clueless. I hope he was lying and that they’ve been working on UF since the game in Nashville ended.
I’m not one of the “Fire Richt!!” guys but I’m really starting to get disillusioned with the way things are being approached from a philisophical standpoint. I’m really losing patience with the soft, warm and fuzzy, “serene” approach of this coaching staff.
I’m certainly no caoch but I would love it if CMR had said that this was what happened LAST Sunday. “We met with the team and asked them where they wanted to be at the end of the season. We asked them if they remembered how they felt after the loss in Jax last year. We reminded them of the two time outs. Then we fired up the highlights or low lights as it were from last year’s meeting. We didn’t talk, we just let the film run. When it was over, we ran the highlights of the game in ‘07. After it was over, we told them, ‘Look at the man on your left. Now look at the man on your right. Now show each other your SEC championship rings that you’ve won since coming to UGA. You can’t can you? ask yourselves and each other why you came to UGA. Now ask yourselves and each other which of the two teams that you just watched do you want to be more like.’ We asked them how long they were willing to be Gator whipping boys. Then we told them, ‘It’s your season. It’s your decision. It’s up to you.’ Since that meeting we’ve had the best week of practice that we’ve had all season” That’s along the lines of what I wish we were hearing from CMR. Not, “We lifted some weights this week. We’ll start really concentrating on Florida Sunday.”

Whatever happens at the end of the season does not matter right now. The Georgia Bulldogs need our support, and I for one am never going to let up giving it to them. The season is half way completed. We all will be counting down the days to September again in just a few months. So, let us all support the players on the field who wear the Red and Black right now.
There will be plenty of time to take care of business in December and January. Now, we all just need to root on those Dogs!! Go Dogs!!!

Passion, weight lifting, gather in a circle and sing cum-ba-ya. Geez! Y’all need a new coach and quarterback. I have watched every one of the UGA games the past couple of years and don’t understand why there is no one in the players faces giving them the what-for when they do stupid stuff. CPJ knows how to put the fear of God in his players and he gets them to respond. If I was a puppy fan I would be hopping mad at what happened in Athens last year and this year as well. I make no bones about it I am a die-hard Yellow Jacket fan, but I can understand why there is concern about the pups right now. Its just good to have a winning spirit and excellent coach residing at North Avenue. Oh, and by the way, y’all get ready to have that “high school” offense make the trip back to Athens this year seem twice as long.

That’s what I wish. But I realize it will never happen. I also wish that when Schultz or one of these other Tech loving idiots asked him a stupid question he would either go Mike Ditka on them or just raise his leg, fart, and say, “next question.” I’m tired of the mamby pamby attitude and the molloycoddling but I’m sure it will continue.

Very well said Brad, when I read this blog I was shocked about the comment about lifting weights and not preparing for UF until today. I hate to bring added pressure on CMR but this is a damn big game as it pertains to his future as a top-tier coach. Has he lost his edge? Has he become complacent? These will be the questions if we get blown out as many are expecting. I don’t know as of yet but he should have started getting us ready on Sunday! Screw lifting weights for 5 days!

djawjuh- You need to get a game replay for the last 3 games with FU and look closely. Personally, I like Tebow. He was cut down by UGA in the early games by roll blocking at his legs. He didn’t run on us like he did other teams. Your reverence for Tebow is misplaced. His greatest affect on the team has been as a cheerleader getting the passion up for his team. That’s what this blog is about. Tebow isn’t the player the pros need(like Stafford), but he has cheered his team to 2 out of 3 wins. When his o-line was performing, he could run on most people, but he personnally hasn’t been UGA’s nemesis. Last 3 years it was Percy Harvin and a couple of years ago , Fasson(sic?). They did the damage that let FU feed off it. Demps is capable, but hasn’t been the big factor to take a game with us. We have fast players who can flat out move on Demps, but its the team effort that matters. Strong didn’t show up well until last year. The years before (and in your 4-loss year) he was in trouble. Has he been jammin’ offenses in the last few weeks? Not so. Willie has outperformed him. Your d-lone ain’t playing like last year at all…and you know it. Throw some player names out with a so-so coach and that’s supposed to impress us? You had better take a close look at what you have been against and how we have done with those same teams before you throw out the only names you know on your team. You have players this year that I rate better than those you named. Tebow, like any qb is only as good as his team performs. Take a close look at latest opponents vs ole’ Charlie’s d. You were lucky and helped by the refs in your last 2-3 games. We aren’t impressed, like we aren’t with your blog.

Brad, I understand that you want blood and would like to see Coach Richt publicly blow his top and say how much he sucks and all his assistants suck and his whole program sucks. Although that would make *you* feel a lot better, it wouldn’t necessarily help the Dawgs to win more games. I don’t recall Urban Meyer flipping out when his team had a 4-loss season. I don’t recall ever seeing Texas Coach Mack Brown flip out all those years of losing to Oklahoma before he finally won a national title. Passionate speeches in the locker room can sometimes help a team win, but publicly throwing a temper tantrum only makes the media go crazy and makes people start to question if a coach has completely lost control.

Johnny DangerDawg. I agree. I was half serious and I certainly don’t want CMR to say that he sucks or that his team or staff sucks. As far as staff changes, he’s doing the right think by staying away from that topic. It was a sarcastic post meant patially in jest. i was making the point that I would like to see a little more “passion” from the man at the top. I don’t think that’s unreasonable. Now I stand by my orginal post 100%.
I just get tired of the same approach over and over. I get tired of seeing the camera pan to CMR on the sideline during a beat down like either of teh two Meltdowns In Knoxville or the Bama loss last year, and he has that sleepy half smile on his face.
You aren’t talking to a bandwagon fan here. You also aren’t talking to an overemotional hot head. I don’t think I have to like everything that CMR does to be a true Dawg.

These players don’t owe any of you ANYTHING. They do not get paid to entertain any of you and most of them know they aren’t going to the next level. They’re here to play a game they enjoy playing and that we enjoy watching. In my humble opinion, lose the sense of entitlement or GTFO.

Folks, no one loves UGA more than I have for the past 50 years. My entire family are UGA grads and small time but loyal $$$ financial contributors. I really get pumped up in the summer awaiting the footballs to be in the air around Sanford Stadium. Love my Dogs BUT the time has come for UGA Atheltic Department adminstrators to force richt into firing about 80-90% of his staff.
They do not present a top notch football team for 11-12 games a season and the Bama game and the tech game in 08 are two clear examples. We lost to one team ( Bama) that was superior and to another ( tech ) that was inferior. See the 3rd qtr in 08 vs Tech and that says it all. I knew then, that Richt needed to dump most of his staff for NEW and HUNGRY coaches. .
They are too upredictable in their style of play and their game day emotions. Yes, the kids are kids but can we not sustain a competitive spirit for 10-12 games per year and a bowl? Do we not have the caliber of SEC talent? Well, why are we as fair as we have been for the last 3 years? These kids are the ones that the current coaches have recruited and they are not stepping up.
The UT game this year and in 07 are two more clear examples of how UGA appears on game day with a mystery team and gets blown out. I am sick of it as 09 is in the tank.
This season is gonna be a 6-6 or maybe a 5-7 year. Time for a change.

Ferndolin,
Tebow is an NFL fullback in an offense that lets the fullback run a lot. But he is so resistant to the idea of switching positions that I think he will be drafted by a team that wants to use him for select QB plays the way that Miami uses Pat White. But no NFL team is going to draft him as a future every-down starting QB.

OleDawg is right. Tebow may be the best college quarterback the nation has ever seen but a qb like Stafford is in much greater demand in the pros. The Dawgs are winning on talent only and loosing on lack of skills. Joe Cox is not a bad qb. His problem is never having a go to guy when AJ is covered up. Maybe having Charles as a receiver will help. When Cox gets into trouble, there is never a receiver open for him to go to for a 3 or 4 yard gain. Why not??? Martinez must develop a special defense for Tebow to stop his run and also cover his receivers. Bobo must have 3 receivers ready on each play. As far as the running game, tell the scouts to find a couple of running backs for next year. The Dawgs can win!! But, the coaches and cordinators must do their job for a change. If not, then, the game will be a blowout.

Brad,
I agree that you can question some of your coach’s actions and still be a true fan. I hope that Richt gets fired up in the locker room and/or on the practice field whenever it’s beneficial. If guys aren’t giving full effort in practice, I hope he chews them out. (And I acknowledge that maybe he’s failing to do that.) During the course of a game, I know if I were coaching and let myself get worked up about something, it might be hard for me to get my focus/concentration back when I need to be thinking about things like clock management or whether or not we should use a timeout right now. So, my opinion is that it’s probably best for a head coach to stay calm during a live game. If a lineman, for example, isn’t giving full effort during a game, pull him out and let his position coach yell at him.

Johnny DangerDawg,
That’s how I feel for the most part. Although I don’t know how much good staying calm is helping CMR in terms of clock management and the use of time outs. Even when things were going great he drove me nuts in those two areas. As for the other stuff, I have long said that it isn’t essential for RICHT to be a firey motivator, after all niether Pete Caroll nor Bobby Bowden have evern been that type and have had plenty of success. however, you need a guy like that on staff or routinely play flat. Richt doesn’t have to be that guy, but he needs some guys to be ba cops to his good cop. And I think WM is way to laid back to be a DC besides just being incompetent.

I’m GT, she’s UGA. I married up big time. I root for both. I have to say this discussion reminds me eerily of another one 2 years ago, where GT would win games they shouldn’t, then lose games they should win. 7-6 was normal, and there was a lack of passion in the head coach and the team. What a difference. Even if GT never wins ACC championship, it is so much more exciting to see them play now. I don’t see that happening without a coaching change. My dream year is two 11-0 teams playing on Thanksgiving weekend.

If we can find that offense we had against Arkansas
If we can find that defense we had against LSU
We can beat Florida with a good thump. Anything less and I’m afraid it will be another bad year. We need THIS game over all of the remaining schedule. Winning this game we cruise to a winning record and likely run the table on the remaining games.

This is copied directly from Schultz’s article about Paul Johnson and comments CPJ made showing his attitude about the games:
“We’ve played pretty good at times,” he said when asked if he ever has been fully satisfied after a game. “I remember winning the national championship [at Georgia Southern], 59-24, and gaining like 640 yards and they had about 240. We played pretty good. But you’re always striving for the perfect game. When you become satisfied and lower the standards, I don’t know if you’re doing the kids a service. You’re doing them a disservice. You have to keep raising the bar and pushing that this is what you’re looking for. If we had won every game this season, that would be different. But we haven’t.”
He considered for a moment that, “I probably need to do a better job of accentuating the positive sometimes.”
But seconds later, it was as if the Paul Johnson mini-me sitting on his shoulder slapped him on the head. “I don’t care if they think I’m never gonna be satisfied,” he said.
Not that it will happen, but I think CMR needs to take that approach as well if the Pups will ever improve. Talent is important, but awesome talent improperly coached can and will fall short of their potential. CMR came to UGA when it needed a new coach with a new drive and vision. He did well in the beginning. But, last year, when you Pups had more talent than you ever have had in a while altogether on one team, you failed to live up to expectations. That is not the kids fault, that is a failure to get in their heads and make them go beyond even what they think is possible. That falls directly on the coaches, not just CMR, but it starts with him.
CPJ is getting more out of less right now because he knows how to get into the kids heads and push them to go beyond their own expectations. Nesbitt is performing at a level he would have never realized under Chan Gailey, and it is all due to CPJ.
You guys still have some pretty good talent. Cox and Green make a pretty good combo, but are they performing beyond their own expectations? Probably not. Stafford was very good, and at times ws amazing. He should do well in the NFL with better coaching. It is just that when you watch the Puppies play this year, it just seems that something is not clicking.
Tech has not had success like they are enjoying for a while. They haven’t really taken a step up in the talent department, but the new coach and new approach to winning sure has made a difference on the field. It would be nice to see you Pups spank the Gators, I really am tired of hearing about them all the time. A UGA win in Gainseville would maybe shut some of their talk about being number one up for a while. But, I ain’t spreading the love too far. Joe(III, jr) Cox should be focused on UF. I’m pulling for us to quit making bone-headed mistakes and start using some innovative coaching, and win the game. Hopefully, the spotlight will still be on officiating and a fair game will be called. If we don’t win, I suggest we start looking to next year and bring in another QB, as well as younger players who will improve and need the experience (”hear that Evans and Miller?”). I just don’t care about going to the Poulan/Weedeater Bowl. Just a thought…when was the last time Delta Airlines actually made a profit? Peace.

I thought that the Georgia fans were so nice and considerate last year. They were so nice about leaving so early; it really cut down on the traffic after the game. The game seemed so long; those two timeouts at the end seemed to take forever. The Georgia fans missed that because almost all of them had left. I hope that the Georgia fans will be as nice and considerate again this year.

If you are not pleased with the play of a student athlete then find a way to express that to the coaches without saying thing like “Joe Cox is terrible” or “…he has no talent”. The coaches are paid handsomely for the decisions they make. Cox has made some great passes this year, along with some I wish he had not. To blame the team’s struggles on a player instead of the head coach demonstrates your limited understanding of sport. To say things like “Joe Cox is terrible” demonstrates your limited ability to be a functioning member of society.
Florida is not great because of Tebow, it is great because of Urban Meyer. With the talent we had last year Meyer or Saban probably would have been undefeated National Champions without any excuses for injuries needed. With Richt Georgia will always be decent to good, never great. But keep in mind Richt makes a fortune to take critisim like that. Cox, not so much.

Players should watch so much film of Florida that when next Saturday comes the defense should play like they were in the huddle with Florida!!! Hint to the coaches when its 3rd down and less than 5 yards TEBONE is going to run it!!!! He will not throw it because he doesn’t trust his receivers!!!! Put Florida posters in the locker room, play there fight song all week everywhere!!! Then that should put some passion and hate toward the GAYTORS!!!!

I think the 2 most important players in this game with UF is Walsh and Butler. STs will either keep us in the game or win it. Butler and Walsh both will need to pin UF deep. Nor directional KOs. Walsh needs to put it through the EZ every chance he gets. Butler needs to keep booming those 50+ yard punts. Look for Walsh to have a long (50+ Yrd) FG or 2. Boykin and Miller both will need to come up huger on returns. TDs will be nice but a 20 yrd Punt return avg to with field position at the 354 or better on KOs will aloow for field position to stay on UGA’s side and allow the offense to run the clock.
We need to control the clock. I know we we need to score when the chances present themselves, but eat the clock and keep the UF O off the field. Whether we run or not I don’t care. Short quick hitters will be fine. Just move the chains and eat the clock.

I believe if Coach Richt would start calling the offensive plays. GA would revert back to the great team they were. When Richt turned the reins over to BoBo ,the decline started. As for UGA’s chances vs. Florida, well let’s just say that I’m keeping my expectations low. Yeah the Gators haven’t been great, but they’ll show up vs. the Dawgs. My Dawgs may not beat Tebow this year. But at least I can take solace in the fact that in 2007, for one game, we gave Tim Tebow the biggest ass kicking he has ever received in his career.! I can;t believe that people keep complaining that we should play Murray. I think that would be stupiid this late in the season to play him…burning a whole yr. of eligibilty. I know Murray had an injury earlier in the season, & you guys haven;t even seen him practice. I mean…he just very well may not be ready yet. Cox hasn’t been that bad…I know he’s thrown some interceptions, but I’m sure that’s not all his fault…considering thet line hasn’t blocked all that well. It’s a team game people…just bc a QB appears to be inconsistent…doesn’t always mean it’s all his fault. Just look how well he played against SC & Ark. I mean, he was national player of the week against Ark. As far as yardage goes…I think he’s only had a couple of bad games. Stop complaining & get behind your team! People talk llike we have no chance against FL., but FL isn’t as great as they have been. I mean, Ark. should have beat them…if it wasn’t for the refs. I don’t know if we’ll win…you never know, but I think we have a chance.

October 23rd, 2009

The best chance Georgia has of winning in Florida is to leave Willie Martinez at home. With Willie’s D we will have to score at least 55 points to win. Unranked, at the lowest level of all stats, will barely be bowl eligible and playing in a fourth tier bowl…. Does CMR realize there are problems at Georgia? Will he make any coaching changes? Probably not! It will be “give them one more year and they’ll get it all straightened out”. I’m sick of the spin and excuses out of Athens.
Take some action … make some changes … give out some pink slips and
let’s start over again the way it should be. I believe we will get beat by 35 points in Jacksonville with Willie’s D, soft d back play, no running game and poor coaching. Mark Richt will blame it on the fans for not being loud enough and say he thought he was too easy on the dawgs during their week off. Lifting weights isn’t what’s needed against Fla … it’s passion and fire and preparation and readiness.
I know CMR’s coaches don’t have this in them … I wonder if CMR does.
The Florida game will show us exactly where the UGA program has fallen to. I don’t think it’s going to be a pretty picture.

1. Put a man on Aaron Hernandez and leave him there.
2. No Stupid Penalties.
3. Don’t kick the ball to Brandon James

You UGA fans really are the worst. As the board on this “blawg” proves every day: you know nothing about football and you don’t want to learn. In normal years (when UGA is decent), it’s “Bama sucks!” “Tenn sucks!” “the refs suck!” “Meyer cheats!” “Spurrier sucks!” And when you’re having a down year (like now), it’s “fire Richt!” “the refs are out to get us!” “it’s a conspiracy!” “Joe Cox sucks!” “fire Martinez!” What a bunch of philosophers. Guess I’ll leave the smart-ass comments to the Gators here – after all they’re good at it and, I suppose, have earned the right to ‘em for now. The problem is that regardless of the outcome of any given Florida game, they’ll still be skinnin’ their arrogant a**es for all to see. I mean if they could strut around after that beat-down they got in the BCS Championship game some year’s back at the hand of Nebraska and kept calling the rest of us names, they’re capable of anything.
What I do want to ask is: Do the Seilers have some other Bulldog they can have stand in for this one?…Preferably one that’ll get out from under the porch (or the DawgHouse) and bite somebody in the butt, or elsewhere? Does anybody else think that the lethargic fat-boy of a Bulldog could use some peppin’ up? Kinda like the bad-boy that went after the Auburn guy those years back? Maybe it’s just me, but perhaps if our UGA were to show a little more moxie…well, it was just a thought.

Recently heard Fresno State head coach Pat Hill, who has a lot of nfl coaching experience, say the main difference between coaching in college and the nfl is that in the pros you have to game plan for specific players while in college it’s more about game planning against your opponent’s scheme.
UGA gets out-schemed by smart coaching staffs like Florida’s and Georgia Tech’s and no amount of emotion can change that.

The key to beating Florida.
1) If the Gators do not show up…we win.
2) If Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer get hit by a bus….we win.
3) If Matthew Stafford, Knowshown, Hines, Champ, and Seymour play…we win
4) If Hell freezes over next Friday…we win.

Long time Gator fan here and I was a student-athlete. So, I know what it is like game in and game out. I am really puzzled by some of the UGA fans on this blog. If you have been awake during any SEC football season for any part of the last decade, you would know that each week is a battle. Too many great athletes and coaches. Look at all the games this year(with a few exceptions to certain teams). Anyone can beat anyone on any given day. Are you telling me that UGA should have beaten USC with your logic? Are you telling me that Arkansas should have given Florida a game with the butt beatings and crap defense they have played all year. I hope UF wins, but it is going to be a good game, just like most of the SEC games this year, past and present. Seems like most UGA fans on here have never worn a jock strap. Maybe sniffed one, but never worn one. Good luck the remainder of the year. Every game is going to be a battle.

PSI on fl’s backfield is not only needed but mandated. Tebow and his three scat backs must not be allowed to get in rhythm. Weston , Geno Akins and Jeff Owens need to have their best game.. Jeff Owens, has been extremely quiet all year. Not much action from him. Step up ,Jeff. You were the one that hurt Tebow’s shoulder two years ago when we beat them. NFL won’t be knocking on the door if you do not start going all out. I remember your weight lifting antics. In what coach richt called one of the most inspired defensive efforts he has ever seen Georgia dropped a heart breaker 2-0 to BYE week . BYE put up over 500 yards but was unable to crack the scoreboard on the stingy dog defense, the only score of the game came as time expired and the uga QB spiked the ball in his own endzone trying to stop the clock and set up a game winning 116 yard field goal attempt . It was later admitted that the spike was a mistake because uga had three timeouts remaining and it was a little out of field goal range. georgia now has to recover from this heartbreaking loss and prepare for the gators who also have a bye week this weekend they just happen to be traveling to the state of Miss to watch a group neutering of some dogs .

One thing that’s bothered me twice this week is the implication that players can’t work out in the weight room on their own time. Why would we waste hours of our official 20 hours a week on weight training? Shouldn’t the kids be doing this on their own? I wonder if this is where we seem to fall behind other teams in having enough hours in the week to get it all practiced.
I know it’s asking a lot of a student-athlete to lift weights on their free time, but it seems like just one more thing that is expected of a football player in d1.

Jason, I must say this was your best game preassessment. In the past, you have given our coaches a pass but I think that you finally recognize that changes must happen within or without this organization for us to go forward.. I do like Bobo on the sidelines. It will kept he and Richt eying each other on play calls and I think that is a good thing. Don’t want to see Richt w/o headphones. Someone tell Janeck his linebackers better learn to play the passing game a heck of a lot better. If that means stunting every play, then do it if you’re not fast enough to keep up with a TE or back out of the backfield. Worried about the tall receiver Moore for FL having a big game. He actually was critical in keeping FL in the game with Arkansas. He made several last quarter 1st downs. Corners must get in their face and stay with them. Don’t let them run by them on a roll out like they did in the Tennesee GAME!!!!!!!!! All linebackers and pass defenders better be within 3 yds of every FL receiver crossing the line.

As some have helpfully noted, there are some scenarios by which UGA could beat Florida. I have a few ideas too.
1. A micro-black hole could open for a few milliseconds in Gainesville and swallow up the Gators, depositing them in an area of space-time far far away.
2. The UF team bus could be hijacked and driven around aimlessly for several hours.
3. All UGA players who have been arrested could be released on bond, and their ankle monitoring devices removed for the game (those things are heavy!).
4. The ugly mutt Uga could spring to life and bite Urban Meyer, forcing him to leave the game to get a rabies shot.
5. Tebow and 21 other Gators could have simultaneous concussions.
But most likely, UGA will just get killed by at least 40 points.

Old School Gator, there’s no point. I was just trying to be sensitive and kind to Dawg fans who are really hurting beyond belief with this wretched season being a seemingly endless string of heartbreaks and misery. If Passion was the key to beating Florida then Florida would be winless right now.
The only way UGA wins this game is if half the FL team is in the dorm with the flu.
After Meyer puts in the 3d string, noodle arm will throw his first TD pass. At that point it will be something like 60-7
The good side of this whipping is that it’s one more nail in Bobo and Martinez coffins.

After working for more hours than I would like to admit, the SEC DC Fantasy League is done. I am sorry for the “Free Willie” gang, he is not the worst DC in the SEC. Just the fifth worse. After seven games without a strength of schedule which would give Willie a better score, it comes down as follows:
1, Strong of Florida with 14.83 points. Look out Dawgs next weekend.
2. Smart of Bama with 15.165 points. A strong case for the Gators and the Elephants to play in the dome.
3. Monte “Lets make a deal” Kiffin with 16.67 points. My whole world lies waiting behind Door Number Three. Thank you James Buffett.
4. Ole Miss and whoever is their coordinator with 17.67 points. Hemmingway will now read something no one can understand.
5. Vandy with 17.27 points. Yeah they played Rice and a couple of others that you schedule for the wins.
6. The Dark Visor with 18.007 points. The Dark Side has been heard from today.
7. Chavis of LSU with 18.84 points. Gotta be the biggest rollercoaster per week. Yes more than Willie.
8,Coach Willie with 19.577 points. He beat several above him head to head but got blow out by Monte.
9. Arkansas with 20.28 points.
10. Miss State and Coach Mullen with 20.58 points. He still needs a signature win. Sign a football for Tebow?
11. Kentucky with 20.61 points. Maybe change from a Wildcat to a Catfish.
12. Auburn with 21.13 points. Everybody should beat Auburn. Okay, if you have a offense, you should beat Auburn.
I feel better now. Dawgs should win versus Tech (Tn), Kentucky and Auburn. Seven wins and we go bowling. Tech how is Boise in the winter?

Tech fans continue to sit there and post the dumbest thoughts on National Championship Game.
Miami of Florida beat you soundly 33-17.
Tech has to be within 5 spots and have beat Miami of Florida head-to-head, which Tech did not.
Miami of Florida is also ahead of Georgia Tech by 3 positions in the BCS Rankings.
Neither team plays a single good team, except Tech plays UGA whom they will never beat, in the last game.
There are no other even beginning to be reasonable opponents for either Georgia Tech nor Miami of Florida.
Nothing Georgia Tech can do to jump Miami of Florida, and if Georgia Tech did jump Miami of Florida and Miami of Florida is within 5 spots of Georgia Tech, Miami of Florida goes to the BCS Bowl Game representing this said sorry conference, the ACC.
This is because Georgia Tech LOST to Miami of Florida head-to-head 17-33.
Your season was over the nanosecond you LOST to Miami of Florida.
You will NOT beat UGA anyway, and will drop farther behind Miami of Florida.
You have run your mouth about how great you are in a sorry conference because instead of LOSING to UGA for the 60th time, you delayed that 60th LOSS to UGA until this season.
I hope that this clarifies just how absolutely void of any common sense you are at Georgia Tech.
National Championship, B.S. Tech has NEVER EVER been ranked Number 1 by the AP Poll ever. And, this year is obviously no different with you Number 13.
Now, run your mouth some more.

The ugliest part will be the massive disillusionment by UGA fans who actually think they have a chance. When UGA is slaughtered, at least then they’ll realize they’re never going to contend for the SEC championship while Richt, Martinez, and Bozo are there. As Furman Bisher would say: Selah.

I guarantee you, if this were Urban Meyer and Brandon Spikes and involved targeting AJ Green, the entire Bulldog Nation would be livid — and so would the AJC. What did Owens say and why is it being covered up?? More proof that AJC editors are not “journalists” — they’re just homers….

I’ve run UGA-UFL through my game simulator twelve times, and Florida wins every time by an average score of 42-10. If it rains, UGA does a little better. In the extreme case, with Tebow only mediocre and Cox having a better than average game, the score is 32-17.
UGA’s time of possession is actual about even with UFL, but it’s because UFL scores quickly in all simulations.
In no simulation does UGA come closer than 14 points.

I always run twelve simulations for each game. When one team wins all twelve simulated games, with the average margin of victory more than 21 points, the simulator has never missed a game result. So it doesn’t look good for UGA next Saturday.

I’m sure this relaxation formula was what UF used to jump UGA during those seasons the Gators had open dates before Jax.. Clearly, that’s the only reason UF won those years. It couldn’t have been superior coaching, recruiting, game plan, etc. (In other words, dream on.)

Hey BuLLdawg. You seem like a pretty level headed guy. Tell me something…how’s that bulldawg thing working out for ya in Athens right now a$$hat. Florida is coming up next Saturday and it could be another beat down by Urban Meyer of biblical proportions on those puppys from Athens. Mark Richt has driven your precious program into the ground. You don’t play physical, you don’t play smart and you darn sure don’t play championship caliber football in the SEC. So what’s left for you? Well it seems like all you can muster is flame thrower attacks at Georgia Tech. Well you’ve got more fish to fry than that. What you’ve got is the problem of YOUR head coach. Look at the solid programs in college football right now. The head coach is the guy you think of because they are the leaders, the passionate head of their programs. You think of Urban Meyer, Pete Carrol, Nick Saban, heck Les Miles is more of a guy in charge than Mark Richt. He strolls along the sidelines looking so cool and calm as his team melts around him…..your even bigger problem is Paul Johnson. He is that kind of coach, he holds no play sheets in his hands but he calls every play. If a player makes a mistake he chews that same player out when he comes to the sidelines. He’s recruiting in Georgia like Georgia Tech hasn’t since the late 80’s and he’s not going anywhere. Good luck down there in Jax next week. Get drunk, enjoy the trip like you dawgs have for the last twenty years and only three times have you come back up I-95 a winner. Heck Georgia Tech, lowly, nerdy, trade school Georgia Tech have beat you, the great Georgia more times than that since 1990. You wanna talk facts mount up meat head, bring it on. You probably live in a trailer and beat your wife, drink Evan Williams and go to Athens on the weekends and spend everything you make working at the prison.

You are right on Mean Dean, UGA fans are the WORST I’ve seen in over 50 years. All football fans are fickle, but these are the top of the pile. When they lose its ALWAYS some excuse. They NEVER admitt the other team was better. When a rival team WINS, its “they don’t play anybody”, Anybody could’ve beat that team. My nephew attended UGA. I loved going to the games but hearing all that BS going on around you was just more than I could stand. But to those nuts all other fans are the worst. This is exactly why all us rivals get on their blog and give em hell when they’re having a bad season. Be careful and watch your spelling. There’s some sharp cookie named “slobberknocker” that critiques these blogs and knows who you really are. No much gets by this guy, he’s shaaarp.

You know what King Bill, No body gives a you know what about if Joe Cox shows up or not. We need to be building a solid Bull Dawg Future. The reason why we have only one NC. Look here people, one. Is that we keep making the same mistakes. Florida – Alabama 1 and 2. Many NC’s. Us one. We keep making small gods out of every head coach we hire and get nothing, because we spoil and elevated them to Jesus status when they have achieved nothing. We are idiots. Wake up Bull Dog Nation. I am for one tired of giving money to a program where we make a guy starting QB just because he has been there longer than anyone else and keep bad coaches because they would make a dad or sunday school teacher. If you want to get too Heaven in College Football aka-NC’s you got to raise a little hell. So to all my fellow Bulldogs I do not care if we whip FLa. 500-0 we need to get our heads out of the and wake up. Personally I get tired of only having Buck, Hershel, and Lindsey. I hate living in the past we are starting to soound like Techies and Bobby Damn Dodd stories all the time. We are better than this. Just a Thought. Two things for sure…First, Georgia Tech IS a top 10 team and they would give any team from one week to the next a difficult challenge. Their backfield and their one WR are special. The defense is getting better. Watch out! Second, Florida is equal to Bama, but neither has a consistent, well-rounded offense. Bama and Gators fans are scared because of it. But those defenses give “us” a lot of comfort. In conclusion, Joe Cox better bring more than passion when he shows up next Saturday. Georgia is good enough to beat Florida, but they will have to play a nearly perfect game to do so. Florida 27-14.

I cannot wait until Saturday is over so that all of the excuses will finally have been used by the fans of the pups ! Georgia , go ahead and tell us now how much better UGA will be next year. When you’re finished look at some of the others in the SEC and tell me you will be better than them. Tennessee has now played U and Alabama in the past 2 weeks with 2nd stringers and neither team could get into the end zone on offense. Tennessee has played the #1 ranked team twice this year and lost by a combined 12 points. Alabama will be better next year as will Auburn Tennessee and LSU. Looks like a few more years before the dogs will have a legit shot to brag about anything outside of gymnastics.

After the last coupla games UF has played you’d think the gaters around here just might want to back off…buuuttt noooooo. You see these folks have come to believe that they are entitled…that they are the masters of the universe…hell, that their crap don’t even stink. Well we’ll see what happens this Saturday and then we’ll see what happens for the remainder of the season. If changes need to be made, then we’ll make ‘em – coaches, players, whatever – and we’ll see what happens next year.
You see arrogance, while not officially one of the Seven Deadlies, is most closely linked to the worst of that Pride thing, and in it’s worst forms of hubris, narcissism, vanity – and arrogance. Florida fans have long since decided that they, they are ’superior’ to everyone else and love to rub others noses in it. Just remember, that when the time comes, and it will come, revenge will be sweet…of course finding you guys will be kinda tough cause you won’t be hanging around here much. You’ll be calling up your excuses for why ‘you got beat’. Then again it won’t take you long before you’re back showing the rest of us just how pleased you are with yourselves…you won’t deserve it but that’s never stopped you before. Kicking that crap out of you will be a pleasure – hell, even watching somebody else kick it out of you will. Of course that will mean the rest of us will be engaging in that ‘Deadly Sin’ of Wrath…Hell hath no fury like a Bulldog that you’ve tried to rub his nose in it once too often.
That goes you you techies too…it’ll be a pleasure.

Big Jon I agree with you somewhat. I do get tired of the same old approach. I am as loyal a Dawg as you will find but I’m tired of the way so many of us will accept any exuce that’s tossed our way.
I’m tired of us getting outcoached. Yes CMR has brought us soe success and I really appreciate that. But he seems clueless that what he was doing from ‘02 to ‘05 is not working anymore. The SEC has changed and he either won’t or can’t change with it. There is absolotly no excuse for us being in this position in terms of qb play. Stafford started for three years. So there was plenty of time to get smebody else ready. But we didn’t learn from Joe T. and we still haven’t learned because Cox is gonna get all the snaps no matter what. I’m tired of the mealy mouthed “He waited his turn .” excuses. You know what? I don’t care that he waited his turn.

Just a reminder to actual UGA fans that many posters are trolls (people posing as one thing while actually being something else). Ignore the smack talking intruders and the pseud-Dawgs who only try to stir up discontent. They love it when you react to them.
As for the upcoming game with the Ugly Force, on paper we have no reason for optimism. UF leads the SEC in numerous offensive and defensive stats while UGA ranks at the top of several undesirable ones. However, UF hasn’t looked invincible the past few games and the Dawgs have a long history of pulling the occasional unlikely upset. IF the refs pay attention to WR Nelson grabbing defenders’ shirts to get leverage and IF they call a fair game, we’ve got a chance. I agree with Joe Cox about the passion but a lot of things will have to go right…Finally, to all authentic JYDs, whatever happens next Saturday: “It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog!”

As a football purist, how aggravating would it be to see the Dawgs play up to their potential and beat Florida as most of us know we could. If that happens after so many negative things the last couple of years it will validify the point of many here regarding the coaching unfortunately.
I need counseling, it’s been tough being a Dawg the last few years, but I can dream. I see Urban Meyer standing there after a 45 -10 loss Saturday with nothing to say, not CMR. Georgia will play their best game of the year to date in Jacksonville. It may not be enough because Florida plays very solid defense. Any morons posting that Florida is going to win by a huge margin are not creditable football observers. The Gators offense is staggering. They have not been able to replace Harvin and Murphy. Their running backs are small and quick not physical. Tebow is a great leader but is overrated by casual fans as an offensive weapon. Georgia is terrible in the Cover 2 but I don’t think Florida has the passing game this year to exploit them repeatedly. Georgia will do a decent job against the run and hang in. This will be a competitive game. Florida has been made a 16 point favorite. Morons please note..they were 25 point favorites against Arkansas (won by 3)..they were 23 point favorites against Mississippi State (won by 10). They are not the explosive offensive team they have been in recent years. I agree with Randy Galloway, former sportswriter and now Dallas ESPN radio talk show host. He says the problem with modern day football fans is they watch Sports Center and read headlines and think they are experts. His advice…before you comment…”Watch the Damn Games.” !!

There is no key to beating Florida, notwithstanding Cox’s moronic statement. UGA has mediocre players, most of them are barely literate enough to read a playbook, the majority of them are thugs who have repeatedly been in trouble with the law, and to top things off, the coaching is third rate at best.
Florida 59, UGA 10, if Meyer takes pity of the Dawgs and doesn’t use all his timeouts.
Florida is going for BCS points and will show no mercy.
