Mark Richt's team has been its "own worst enemy." (Associated Press)

I’ll be on vacation the rest of Georgia’s bye week, though my brother Jon and I do plan on attending the Touchdown Club of Athens meeting on Thursday at which Mark Richt will be speaking. If he says anything noteworthy, I’ll share it on the Blawg.

In the meantime, here’s a link to a midseason review of Richt’s team by ESPN.com’s Chris Low. He naturally picks A.J. Green and Rennie Curran as Georgia’s midseason MVPs, but he notes that the Dogs have “been their own worst enemy for much of this season with turnovers and penalties, and the defense has again struggled. Going back to last season, the Bulldogs have given up 37 or more points in eight of their last 16 games.”

Low adds that the embarrassing game against the Vols is “the kind of loss, depending on what happens the rest of the way, that may force Mark Richt to take a long look at his staff at season’s end.”

A tough but fair assessment, I think.

Feel free to discuss that and anything else having to do with UGA sports in my absence. But keep it clean or you might find yourself unable to comment here in the future.

The Blawg will return on Monday.

Go Dogs!

Many talked about the fact that there would be a game this year where the UGA offense that played OKST would show up WITH the UGA defense that played Arkansas AND that happened VS TENNESSEE

BUT

There will also be a game where the UGA Offense that played Arkansas will show up in the same game as the defense that played OKST or Vandy/LSU AND they will BLOW some unexpecting team off the field

Could it be Florida? Could it be Tech?

I think UGA will win 2 of the 3 vs FL, AUB, TECH

Tech will not be able to stop UGA’s passing game

Not much to say. This is a bad team. Can anyone imagine how bad we would be without AJ? Without him we are a 1-6 team without question with certain losses to ASU and South Carolina w/o AJ. We are way behind Bama and Florida as a program and we were ahead of UT, AU, SC, GT,and others. It appears that in 1 year that some of these programs like UT have already caught us. Life was good when some of these programs were down. Now life aint so good and next year we are starting all over again with a brand new starting qb. Life aint lookin too good right now.

Ark is a 3rd game we wouldn’t have won without AJ and we would be 1-6 instead of 4-3. Just think about how amazing that is. Without this one superstart in AJ we would be 1-6. Kinda scary and if he goes down we are flat out in a world of hurt.

Hey dawgies. How does it feel declaring someone to be your major rival, when you only beat them about as often as Haley’s Comet comes around? The dawgs are becoming the laughing stock of the nation.

The “Bye Week” just fielded UGA’s directional “Fabris special” kickoff at the 50 yard line and returned it for a touchdown.

Hey Dawg fans…the great thing about a bye week is: no penalties, no turnovers, no loss. Maybe you should schedule more byes.

Georgia fans, the 2nd half of the season seems to mirror the first. Losses will come from Florida, KY and GT. That being said , which program is looking up ? Tennessee or Ga?

I don’t profess to be a football expert, but here are my observations,
1. First game, the dawgs weren’t ready to play, as evidenced by penalties, turnovers, and sloppy play.
2. The coaches have not been oraganized. It looks like they showed up on gameday from a long vacation.
3. Same for the players.
4. I believe if they get serious about their football, they can pose a threat to the Gators. Thats it.

Does it concern anyone else that the only “sure win” for the Dawgs left on their schedule is Tennessee Tech? UGA could very well lose to all the other teams we have left…(in case you can’t tell, I’m not impressed with the fact that we can beat Vanderbilt…woo hoo)…

Midseason report card-F. With rising hope with the win over Vandy does anyone realise that the dawgs only beat one team, Vandy. So all the Willie apologists have fun this week because Willie will show his true colors (yellow) anainst the mighty gators.

What is this crap we werent ready for OSU? Are you asking for a do over? Georgia you should have lost to Arkansas, SC and ASU. You were lucky to get by those. When will you Homers ever be realistic?

The state of Georgia is a much better place to live when UGA has a losing season. There are so many Georgie fans that the entire populace seems to be humbler, more polite, and better neighbors. If they could just have two or three losing seasons in a row, I am sure that they would begin to act much more intelligent. But, it is kind of like quiting smoking, there would be severe withdrawal symptoms because some of the worst fans just have no other life.

WHY oh WHY do you Techies have to get on the UGA blog and complain about UGA, their fans, and shout insults like crybabies?

The reason you really come here and insult and things is because you are JEALOUS!

Tech is 6-1 and UGA is 4-3 and STILL UGA gets all of the attention, all the headlines and people CARE!

NOBODY CARES ABOUT TECH and that kills you techies

Tech will never be significant in Georgia as long as the Dawgs are playing football and you Techies can’t handle it.

You wish you were like UGA and since you are not, you have to lash out, insult, call dawg fans names, and try to tear down our team.

Get over it. Go to your blog and try to enjoy your success while it lasts…..you will never matter as much as the Dawgs and you will never understand what it means to have a tradition so worthy of loyality and envy!

Go Dawgs!

Sloberknocker, you are psychic. I attended Ga. Tech, but got booted out because of my weak math skills. I then went to Bama but got booted out because I’d never had sex with my sister.. So I jumped in my pickup and drove to UGA. After filling out a long admission form, they found out I was working part time as a helper for Leon Farmer, the Bud. distributor. I could become a student at UGA if I brought a case of Bud to every sporting event. That was 15 years ago and I finally got my degree in English Literature. I asked my professor at UGA about what you pointed out. You know, the proper spelling of “to” or “too” He told me it was a personal preference. He said some even spell it “two”. Thats what I loved about about UGA. You know their motto” don’t worry about your grades,” just bring the case of beer and you’ll pass every exam. Then some party pooper by the name of Jan Kemp snitched on everybody and screwed everything up. But anyway that education at UGA. got me promoted from helper to Sr. driver.

AP poll has #14 GaTech with a Strength of Schedule of 12. #13 Ok. State with SOS #64. And my favorite, #11 Penn State at SOS #46. Did they ignore the fact that Purdue beat Ohio State on Saturday? That should make the BT’s SOS plummet.

i like coach and think he has been very successful during his time at uga,but the ship has gone a ground.
clearly, this georgia team is not the same as other richt teams in the past and major changes need to be made.

after looking at the vandy rerun today, the team struggled for most of the game against a terrible vandy . the team showed some life toward the end of the game because the vandy defense run out gas at the end of the game.

we have little chance i am afraid with florida and we will be lucky to finish 500.

it is high time that coach richt do a total evaluation at the end of the season, because this team has mjor problems and a quick fix will not undo all that is wrong with it.

The DC Fantasy League numbers are all plugged in. I am now working on the averages. Muschamp is real strong agains stopping the run. But you need to look at his schedule also when weighing it. Mushchamps average yards yielded rushing per game is 35.83333333333333333333……. Most teams passed against Texas. But he had two games with minus yards rushing.

Tech, do not take a bowl against Texas.

thoughts on the Dogs at midseason…they’re still looking for a leader…AJ is s superstar, but is not in a position to get 20 touches a game…leadership has to come from the QB or the running game…maybe w/ Bobo now on the sidelines this will help Cox settle down and aid him in his decision making process

CMR must stop the defensive collapse.Otherwise, we lose great recruits which will lead to further decline. The offense must be fine tuned also.

From a coaching perspective, CWM is not SEC calibre…his “prevent defense” from start to finish creates reaction, rather than proaction. Van Gorder’s defenses always positioned our players to make make plays, not just react to them. Thus, we were able to contain or make adjustments, then contain. Martinez’s defense is so predictable, as Crompton so aptly stated. And, Van Gorder’s defensive scheme made all the position coaches look good. That’s why it’s important to sever ties with Willie, Janeck, Fabris, and maybe even Rodney Gardner, who is actually just a recruiter. Gardner’s recruits are the ones who never seem to pan out either. Look to the Big Ten for a top notch DC. Just my opinion.

I agree with HH. It is time to clean house. Lets start at the top with the HEAD CICURS CLOWN CMR and work our way down. Ga has finally taken a back seat to everyone in the SEC except Vandy.
