Yall forget reason Georgia vs ND for Natl championship GT tied them 3-3 n grant field that day people somehow found it n was over 60,000 there before they re-modeled it…..still same today when beat Virginia Tech more Virginia hokies fans then Tech( they must been asleep at Varisty i saw empty seats….if Ga 1980 team could maybe but it would be a win over Ohio state to do that …

Thank you for revealing that you are an ND fan. That explains your ignorance about Buck Belue’s career. Not only was he a winner, leading his team to a national championship, he was a fine quarterback and accurate passer, as evidenced by his 60% completion percentage and 12 touchdowns as a Senior. And while he only completed the one pass against the outstanding ND defense in that one game, he made it when he needed it to help seal the victory.

All I know is that the 1980 team did it and always came up with a way to win! So, yes, yes, yes, they could win it because they’ve already proved they could. The fact that they didn’t lose will keep us all wondering could they win it. So the correct answer is yes. I remember that year very well. Just when you thought they were down, they would always come up with an interception, fumble, or big play. Erick Russell was one of the best defensive minds and knew how to take any player and make him perform to his best ability. That team had heart that changed games!

I agree with McDawg – today’s players are bigger and have better 40 times collectively, but are much less tougher. The 1980 Bulldogs had 11 players on defense that would hit. Today we just hope that a few players are intense on a given play. I watched a replay of the ‘89 Texas – Oklahoma game, and couldn’t believe the ferocity and intensity of play. Today’s game is much more athletic than in years past but much less tougher.
