Brandon Boykin's return for a touchdown was one of the few bright spots for Georgia. (Associated Press)

Play-action.

Bootleg.

I just thought I’d throw out a couple of basic offensive football terms that Willie Martinez apparently isn’t familiar with.

As a result, Georgia made Jonathan Crompton look like an all-conference quarterback Saturday as Tennessee repeatedly ran the same basic plays over and over again to great success in a 45-19 butt-kicking.

Not that the loss can be pinned entirely on Georgia’s defense. Because the Dogs’ offense put on one of the most toothless, inept performances since … last week’s first half. No running game to speak of. And this week precious little passing game. You remember all the talk about how Georgia’s offensive line was terrible at run-blocking but good at pass protection? Today they weren’t even good at that, as Joe Cox repeatedly had to throw the ball away or had it batted down. Volunteer defenders spent more time in Georgia’s backfield than any of the three tailbacks the Dogs used in vain. The Dogs basically took the third quarter off.

Backup quarterback Logan Gray did finally get to play quarterback … and showed us little. He did complete his first pass as a Bulldog, to Marlon Brown (who finally got to make some catches), but generally threw poorly.

The only Bulldogs unit that had any positives in this game was, incredibly, the special teams, which accounted for most of Georgia’s points thanks to a 102-yard kickoff return by Brandon Boykin, a blocked punt for a safety by Zach Renner and a long field goal by Blair Walsh in addition to the pick-6 by Bacarri Rambo. Even then, the Dogs still had a terrible kickoff return that saw the Vols begin a drive in Dogs territory.

What else? Missed tackles galore. Tennessee receivers continually wide open. Poor play calling by Mike Bobo. And, again, Martinez appeared to be clueless.

And the dean of SEC coaches was outcoached by Lane Kiffin, who now has the right to say whatever he wants to when it comes to the Dogs.

Kirby Smart, please come home!

In a perverse way I’m glad about what happened today. If Adams, Evans or Richt can’t see the light after today I think they should all be institutionalized. Unless major changes are made I will not be renewing in March and just become a TV fan at most. I am tired of leaving after a 1 1st down first half like last week.

I’m sure Richt is thinking more about tomorrow’s Sunday school lesson than the possibility of firing, demoting or benching anyone involved with this program. I am so sick of this crap.

I griped about CPJ calling the kid “stupid” after a penalty on national TV, but now I totally get it. He’s a prick and will beat us again because Saint Richt refuses to hold ANYBODY accountable for anything.

Take this old school i-formation outta here. Everybody and their grandmother can pullout games from the 1960’s of teams using the i-formation. Can’t these UGA coaches think of other plays that can get the best players involved? This style is old and every team has it defended!

1. Congratulations to the Tennessee coaches, players, and fans. You waited a long time to rub someone else’s nose in it. We served up a grand opportunity for you today.

2. Tech fans – you are right…..crow all year. Your team is better, your coach is better, and you are on a roll. Enjoy it…..you’ve earned it.

3. Georgia fans (an I am one), face reality……we are no better right now than a bottom third SEC team. Below average performance, below average coaching, consistently doing things underperforming organizations do (self-inflicted wounds, indecision, unwillingness to change, etc).

4. I love Coach Richt and he has done a lot for the team……bottom line, just like in business (and don’t think for a minute that this isn’t business)……we (yes, the tax payers of Georgia) pay you $3.0mm a year to produce results). Show me the results right now……and please don’t tell me about SEC Championships and road victories. You got paid for that……ask a publice company CEO how well fond rememberance of two 2007’s financial performance serves you in today’s market. That’s right…..these boys are like highly paid CEOs. You can’t have it both ways…..pay me the dough and love me whan it goes well and give me a free pass when I don’t perform cause “we’re developing young men here”. Come on, you don’t expect people smart enough to actually fund this activity to buy that crap do you?

Get it done or get gone!

The shoes on the other foot and all people I read here are bashing the team. I’ve been waiting for the day to come when Willie is fired along with Dodo, and today was the day. I’ve loved this team since I was 3 and its depressing to watch them. And I wasn’t expecting much this year cause I have never liked Cox and the D needed a major overhaul. But all the Tech fans can enjoy the TWO victories they will get in this match up cause it won’t last next year…the pecking order was never restored.

Georgia is the “WORST COACHED TEAM” in the BCS. If Mark Richt can spin this and make more excuses… I’m done. He needs to put the blame where the blame lies … at his door and the door of every coach in the program. He’s got to say “we were outcoached and outplayed”. Outcoached and outplayed by a rookie coach and a senior citizen. Can you believe the state of the Georgia program? The thing I’m most concerned about is “NO HEART, NO PASSION, NO WILL TO WIN, NO LEAVE IT ALL ON THE FIELD”. If I could qb when there’s no pressure and soft coverage on every play, I could look like a great qb. I’m sick to my stomach with the state of this georgia team.

Oh, if I had a daughter, sir, I’d dress her in white and gold,
And put her on the campus To cheer the brave and bold.
But if I had a son, sir, I’ll tell you what he’d do–
He’d yell: ‘TO HELL WITH GEORGIA!’ Like his daddy used to do.

Oh, I wish I had a barrel of rum, and Sugar three thousand pounds
A college bell to put it in, And a clapper to stir it round.

LSU went 7-5 last year… I wonder if people were howling for Les Miles’ job.

I think Richt is a great coach, but I agree he needs to surround himself with better people. Martinez has to go. I haven’t been a Martinez detractor, but there is no excuse for Compton to have a highlight-reel game against Georgia.

That said, I would rather be a Georgia fan and watch the team finish 3-9 than be a sad-sack, acne riddled, chum-muncher tech fan. There are worst things than watching the Dawgs lose, and that’s being a bottom-feeder adolscent with a constant jealous envy that wrecks you year after year.

This game finally did it for me. I am absolutely sick of this poorly coached talented team. We have great talent. There is no doubt in my mind. That talent is the only thing keeping us afloat. It really comes down to some really simple things. And CMR must fix those things if he ever wants to be a top-tier coach. It’s up to him. The life of a team comes from the coach.

1) Emotion- I am so sick of seeing the stoic face of CMR. Get fired up. Show some emotion. Show on the sidelines and in post game interviews. Get mad. Get happy. Get something! Call out the bad calls. Applaud the good plays and throw something on the bad, even if its a cup of water onto the ground. Do SOMETHING to show the kids you care. How did you save 07? Emotion. Dig deep and find out how to express it. Every coach shows it but you. If I hear that awww shucks crap again I am going to hurl something at you. Why? Because you wont do anything about it.

2) Fire CWM- He has to go. It’s been 3 years too long. The stats say it all. His D is terrible, but we have good players. It’s not the kids, it’s him. Fire him. If you are having trouble doing it, try these approaches. 1 ) stand next to a canon with him and yell “fired” as the canon fires. 2) Ask him if he like Earth Wind and Fired! Do it. Do anything. Or we will push for the same to be done to you

3) Fire Bobo. Sorry dude, that offense is TERRIBLE. It was terrible with a #1 and #12 pick in your backfield. It will always be bad as long as he runs it. He was an average QB and is an average OC. We have never had that “thing” since he has been calling the plays. I watch other teams and think “damn, why don’t we do that”? I am sick of asking that question. You should be too.

That is it. See, 3 simple steps. If you don’t think the team needs to feel the passion for winning, then you sir must go. You don’t get it. If you don’t get that these kids play because of passion, then beat it. We were all excited when you started. Okay first year, great second and always close from then on. Don’t get comfortable because it will suck to go somewhere like Minnesota like Tubby did. You’re on top, now act like it.

xxooxx,
fan

If Richt doesn’t see the need for wholesale staff changes after this sorry excuse for an effort, then it may be time for a Fire Mark Richt website. Coach Richt’s first obligation is to make his team better not protect his friends. Since the Alabama game last year something has gone awry in Athens and doesn’t seem to be getting better. At this rate we’ll be lucky to finish 6-6. The talent is there to do better than this and if Saban or Meyer and their staffs were coaching it they would be. Richt deserves the grief he’s going to get this week. And if he doesn’t like it he can either makes changes or leave. I’m quickly getting to the point where I don’t care either way but something needs to happen.

Most of you on this board really need to get a life. Your whole life revolves around football and most of you get so bent out of shape when your team loses. Try spending some quality time with your family and perhaps attend a local Christian church on Sunday instead of worshiping the “dawgs” every week. So what if the dawgs lost. It is not the end of the world and those guys on that time could really care less about any of you. Most of those guys in football will be in poverty within a few years after dropping out of college anyway.

I’m no dawg fan, but I would bet UGA would win this no matter where it was played. I watched both teams since the season began. Tenn. looked like a weak below average team. Ga. looked like an average team that if they played a good game they could beat most SEC teams. But boy was I wrong. I can’t figure the dawgs out. Whatever their problem is I hope they maintain that problem when they go to Atlanta in Nov. to meet my Jackets.

This season has been tough to watch. Georgia has as much talent as any team they’ve played, but it is painfully evident UGA is not well coached. Will Richt remain blindly loyal to these assistants? The coaching in the SEC becomes more impressive each year and UGA is getting left behind. You cannot simply throw athletes on the field and expect to win in the SEC….and please don’t tell me UGA lost Stafford and Moreno and this is just a down year!!
