Looks like it’s going to be a looooong season

Play-action.

Bootleg.

I just thought I’d throw out a couple of basic offensive football terms that Willie Martinez apparently isn’t familiar with.

As a result, Georgia made Jonathan Crompton look like an all-conference quarterback Saturday as Tennessee repeatedly ran the same basic plays over and over again to great success in a 45-19 butt-kicking.

Not that the loss can be pinned entirely on Georgia’s defense. Because the Dogs’ offense put on one of the most toothless, inept performances since … last week’s first half. No running game to speak of. And this week precious little passing game. You remember all the talk about how Georgia’s offensive line was terrible at run-blocking but good at pass protection? Today they weren’t even good at that, as Joe Cox repeatedly had to throw the ball away or had it batted down. Volunteer defenders spent more time in Georgia’s backfield than any of the three tailbacks the Dogs used in vain. The Dogs basically took the third quarter off.

Backup quarterback Logan Gray did finally get to play quarterback … and showed us little. He did complete his first pass as a Bulldog, to Marlon Brown (who finally got to make some catches), but generally threw poorly.

The only Bulldogs unit that had any positives in this game was, incredibly, the special teams, which accounted for most of Georgia’s points thanks to a 102-yard kickoff return by Brandon Boykin, a blocked punt for a safety by Zach Renner and a long field goal by Blair Walsh in addition to the pick-6 by Bacarri Rambo. Even then, the Dogs still had a terrible kickoff return that saw the Vols begin a drive in Dogs territory.

What else? Missed tackles galore. Tennessee receivers continually wide open. Poor play calling by Mike Bobo. And, again, Martinez appeared to be clueless.

And the dean of SEC coaches was outcoached by Lane Kiffin, who now has the right to say whatever he wants to when it comes to the Dogs.

Kirby Smart, please come home!

As a recepient of two degrees from UGA, I feel certain I have the school’s best interests at heart. I am not a fair weather fan and would cheer for UGA if they never won another game. But this is disheartening. Not so much the coaching but the level of bitching from every person on this board. Perhaps UGA really just does not have the talent right now. Or, perhaps all of these negative comments have merit. We have been embarassed by Tenn. before and probably will be again. However, all of the arm chair quarterbacks out there…what do you suggest that Damon Evans should do with this program? Richt has been one of the best and most consistent coaches in the country for almost a decade now. Where would we be without him now? This is not blind loyalty by a fan, I just don’t know why we can’t give Richt one last chance to right the ship.

The players for UGA have underachieved for several years. All I hear every year is how young UGA is. But over at Bama they have true freshman playing all over the place.

Then again they have a real coach who demands discipline and hard work from his players.

All Richt demands is that they work on their dancing.

Another 30+ game for Martinez’s defense. Last year the excuse was ‘we had so many injuries we couldn’t go full speed in practice.’ What’s the excuse this year for the horrible tackling? Even Curran seems to be catching the disease. The truth is, except for the first year after Van Gorder left, Willie’s defenses have been inconsistent at best, terrible at worst. He should not make Richt fire him. He should resign.

Hey guys let’s help the program and Richt today. Let’s all post potential excuses Richt can use today, tonight, tomorrow and Tuesday this week. I think he is going to have some issues coming up with them for this week. I’ll start.

Richt’s excuses for the loss:
It was cloudy and the lights were not bright enough.
Joe Cox, Reshad Jones, Bryan Evans and Prince Miller all had the flu along with Willie and Bobo.
Cox, Jones, Evans and Miller were just not as good as we thought but Rambo, Smith, Pugh, Commings, Gray, Murray and Mettenberg are just too you and not ready yet.

1. Our linebacker play has been aweful, to say the least, for 3 years now…that’s on Jancek.
2. Our DB’s get burned constantly and the scheme is easily beat by any high school coach…that’s Willie Martinez.
3. Our RB’s are coached by a 27 year old kid…Bryan McClendon
4. Our O-line is getting worse each year…that’s Stacey Searles
5. Our offense pathetically called and none of our QB’s are SEC ready…that’s Bobo.
Sadly, I don’t even know where to begin on the changes that are needed. I’m as big of a CMR fan as any. Everything he stands for I believe in. With the sad state of this coaching staff, though, it is difficult to keep supporting him blindly.

one that, after 5 games, hadn’t even won a FBS game much less a conference game ! And that
team STILL has a losing record in the conference, and still behind us in the East. This ship can
be righted and it will be in the off-season – the problems are too glaring to not fix. We made
Tennessee look like world-beaters today, but I hope that nobody thinks that they’re really that
good – we’re talking about a team that got ZERO votes in the polls. ZERO. No respect at all.

CMR is the sweetest underachiever in college football…and I’m sick of it. Will UGA ever play smash mouth football on defense again? Remember Erk Russell? Remember VanGorder? Remember when we had one of the most feared defenses in the game? Pssst – these types of DC’s are out there, can we PLEASE go get one!?

And don’t get me started on Bobo and the most boring, ineffective offense – period. This is nothing new – the inconsistency, the lack of creativity (or what seems like basic football knowledge) and passion. kentucky is a possible loss; auburn and tech are likely losses; florida will be a disaster. 6-6 or 5-7 season seems quite likely

dooley had losing season in 1977; but 1976 and 1978 were good years; dooley had break even seasons in 1969 and 1970 but 1968 and 1971 were good.

After living in Atlanta for 25 years, I have always been amazed at the attitude of Dawg fans. You act as if you are some national powerhouse. The only thing you consistently do is recruit great players and send them to the NFL. Playing in college is about team and pride. You have selfish individuals -Moreno was a classic example. You are are basically an NFL farm team now.

In retrospect, H Walker was the worst thing that could have happened to you – its made a generation believe they have a better than average team. Check the stats for three decades – you are middle of the SEC pack. Full stop.
