Brandon Boykin's return for a touchdown was one of the few bright spots for Georgia. (Associated Press)

Play-action.

Bootleg.

I just thought I’d throw out a couple of basic offensive football terms that Willie Martinez apparently isn’t familiar with.

As a result, Georgia made Jonathan Crompton look like an all-conference quarterback Saturday as Tennessee repeatedly ran the same basic plays over and over again to great success in a 45-19 butt-kicking.

Not that the loss can be pinned entirely on Georgia’s defense. Because the Dogs’ offense put on one of the most toothless, inept performances since … last week’s first half. No running game to speak of. And this week precious little passing game. You remember all the talk about how Georgia’s offensive line was terrible at run-blocking but good at pass protection? Today they weren’t even good at that, as Joe Cox repeatedly had to throw the ball away or had it batted down. Volunteer defenders spent more time in Georgia’s backfield than any of the three tailbacks the Dogs used in vain. The Dogs basically took the third quarter off.

Backup quarterback Logan Gray did finally get to play quarterback … and showed us little. He did complete his first pass as a Bulldog, to Marlon Brown (who finally got to make some catches), but generally threw poorly.

The only Bulldogs unit that had any positives in this game was, incredibly, the special teams, which accounted for most of Georgia’s points thanks to a 102-yard kickoff return by Brandon Boykin, a blocked punt for a safety by Zach Renner and a long field goal by Blair Walsh in addition to the pick-6 by Bacarri Rambo. Even then, the Dogs still had a terrible kickoff return that saw the Vols begin a drive in Dogs territory.

What else? Missed tackles galore. Tennessee receivers continually wide open. Poor play calling by Mike Bobo. And, again, Martinez appeared to be clueless.

And the dean of SEC coaches was outcoached by Lane Kiffin, who now has the right to say whatever he wants to when it comes to the Dogs.

Kirby Smart, please come home!

I told most that GA is a 7-5 team at best this year, but losing to TN, man.

Can’t wait as there will be another beatdown by FL in Jax again this year.

I just sent my email.

Try to be short, to the point and clean. For those of us who can remember, this is the route (through administration) we took to replace Ray Goff.

We don’t need to replace CMR but we do need to shake up the staff…and he can’t/won’t do it.

The simple fact is that Georgia is, always has been and always will be a second tier program. Only with Herschel Walker, the greatest college player ever, did you accomplish anything.

FSU don’t want the minister back!!!!! His stock is falling like a Lehman Bro’s. Richt might coach in the Div II one day, but seriously!!!! Who even would consider this guy in Div I??? Please UGA just hire the Boise State staff from top to bottom, save a ton of money (our staff is the most overpaid in the country)!!! Look at what BS does with 2nd tier talent, they turn it into a BCS buster!!!!!! If they coached at UGA I know they could parley our awesome talent and win baby!!!!

Gruden, Cowher, Charlie Strong, Kirby Smart, Boise State’s coach/staff, Iowa’s coach/staff, Muschamp (big $$$$!!), Wake Forest’s coach/staff, please good fellow UGA lovers for life add a staff who could play with Meyer and take us to the promised land!!!!!! CMR’s ship has sailed. He actually appears to me to DARE UGA administration to fire him!!!! Why do we get talent but fail on finding a great coach? I always thought Richt won SEC previously on talent alone. When he had Van Gorder it was mainly because of him. Richt has been mediocre to bad from the get go. Now in his worst season yet at UGA.

I knew Knowshon Moreno was a special player. I had my doubts about Matthew Stafford’s decision-making abilities. But after watching this year’s “star-less” football team, I have a new appreciation for just how good these guys were. W/out them last year, I’m not sure we would have one six games. W/out them this year, I’m not sure I see six wins anymore.

This just in:

UGA announces they have fired Richt, Martinez, and Bobo. In their place, Evans happily announces that he has, in fact, just signed my grandmother. Grandmother is believed by many to be able to do a better job than previous coaches. Said Evans, “He kept saying his grandmother could do a better job. It’s worth a try…and cheaper.”

Grandmother has been recently been mentored by Tony Dungy.

I have to congratulate UT, for a great game, game plan, and exectution. Second, to all those that said UGA would be average at best this year, let me apologize, you were right.

Now, Send Willie packing, stop playing players who get beat and quit. Lose 3 yards, rather than the ball. Send Bobo packing, and let Searles be the OC. Get rid of the bad now, and bring in someone good to replace them. We can’t run the ball, fine, spread out the offense and run it and shoot it If that is what we have to do, then do it. We can’t knock anyone off of the ball. Everyone is set for the predictable play calling. No huddle, wear the defense of the other team out, at least make them guess a little. I was totally surprised, we were down by 20 points, and taking 43 seconds a play, letting Tenn set the defense at will, to what we showed.

Having said that, the other team wanted it worse than we did. The other quarterback’s game plan expsoed our weakensses more than ours did thiers. We did look good on special teams, as far as I am concerned, we scored 19 points on special teams and defense. Our offense gave up 7 points.

This was the worst UGA display since South Carolina 95, or Fla at Sanford Stadium.

Good things, We finally got to see another All American UGA reciver play.

Butler was great

Boykin was great

Walsh was good.

Cox was bad, line was bad, defensive backfield was terrible, again. Go Dogs, beat Vandy.

The Dawgs have way to much talent to be this bad. I am finally on the bandwagon–they need to fire Willie Martinez. They made a bad UT team look good. Very few bright spots on D (Rambo?). Lousy tackling. Inability to stop the bootleg. Receivers open by 15 yards CONSTANTLY. Against a team that just booted its leading receiver. We are one of the richest athletic depts in college sports… and we underpay our coordinators, and get what we pay for. Time for Evans to strong arm Richt into firing Martinez, and then give him a blank check to hire some better staff, and reward those that earn it (like Rodney G).

I think the criticism of Bob is less warranted. Sure, the O looked bad the last 2 weeks–but we faced two excellent defenses. That being said, the offense lacks polish, the O line can not run block, Samuels seems to fun straight into tacklers and then fall down, and the schemes/play calls are unimaginative. And we overreact. Sure, Berry is dangerous, and they had a fair bit of pressure, but we still should have been able to throw the ball deep. Could only help the run game.

With respect to Fabris, the special teams are pretty good BUT they need to work on kick coverage. I think we need some more players from the two-deep on coverage. And on returns, we need to coach the returners a little better on when NOT to field the ball. Otherwise, returns are pretty good. Punting and field goal kicking are outstanding. The kick blocking is great.

I would start looking for a new DC and fire Martinez and most of his staff at the end of the season. I would try to salvage the season BUT if and when we lose to UF (and as things stand, that game will be UGLY… as in the Spurrier at UF days), I would pack it in and plan for next year. Start playing the QB of the future (not sure who that is) in a rotation with Cox. Put Bobo on notice and begin scouting for a replacement just in case.

At least we have Drew Butler! CMR must make some staff changes at least during the offseason or he’s going to have some serious heat. It has become painfully obvious that Willie at a minimum needs to go, and it’s probably also a good time for Bobo and Fabris to go. We have too much talent to be coached this poorly. Tennessee ran the same basic bootleg rollout over & over and we could not adjust. The gap between us and Florida & Alabama is growing quickly. How is our offensive line playing so poorly and am I the only one who noticed how much bigger physically LSU’s line is compared to ours? The writing is on the wall folks and it’s time to end the excuses. I will always respect CMR and hope he will be here long term but it’s so frustrating to see him let this staff continue too long when the best coaches (Saban & Meyer)make the necessary changes when needed and have stronger staffs.
