Looks like it’s going to be a looooong season

Brandon Boykin's return for a touchdown was one of the few bright spots for Georgia. (Associated Press)

Play-action.

Bootleg.

I just thought I’d throw out a couple of basic offensive football terms that Willie Martinez apparently isn’t familiar with.

As a result, Georgia made Jonathan Crompton look like an all-conference quarterback Saturday as Tennessee repeatedly ran the same basic plays over and over again to great success in a 45-19 butt-kicking.

Not that the loss can be pinned entirely on Georgia’s defense. Because the Dogs’ offense put on one of the most toothless, inept performances since … last week’s first half. No running game to speak of. And this week precious little passing game. You remember all the talk about how Georgia’s offensive line was terrible at run-blocking but good at pass protection? Today they weren’t even good at that, as Joe Cox repeatedly had to throw the ball away or had it batted down. Volunteer defenders spent more time in Georgia’s backfield than any of the three tailbacks the Dogs used in vain. The Dogs basically took the third quarter off.

Backup quarterback Logan Gray did finally get to play quarterback … and showed us little. He did complete his first pass as a Bulldog, to Marlon Brown (who finally got to make some catches), but generally threw poorly.

The only Bulldogs unit that had any positives in this game was, incredibly, the special teams, which accounted for most of Georgia’s points thanks to a 102-yard kickoff return by Brandon Boykin, a blocked punt for a safety by Zach Renner and a long field goal by Blair Walsh in addition to the pick-6 by Bacarri Rambo. Even then, the Dogs still had a terrible kickoff return that saw the Vols begin a drive in Dogs territory.

What else? Missed tackles galore. Tennessee receivers continually wide open. Poor play calling by Mike Bobo. And, again, Martinez appeared to be clueless.

And the dean of SEC coaches was outcoached by Lane Kiffin, who now has the right to say whatever he wants to when it comes to the Dogs.

Kirby Smart, please come home!

It’s time for change at UGA. Email Damon Evans and encourage him to let CMR and the entire staff go and bring in a competent staff that will compete with SOME FIRE in the SEC and bring UGA football back to ELITE and NC status – not just dadgum good.

Right on AL Dawg. I have been saying for years the lack of discipline is the root of the wholoe issue. They recruit blue chippers but they cant evaluate character. If it wasnt for AJ Green this team would really suck. I still cant understand why the heck he wanted to play at GA. He could have played at any program in the country. One more year and he is int he pros!

Not enough time to set up for the field goal try before haltime. The play before was bone headed. Throw to get out of bounds we would have has 3 seconds to spike the ball and then set up for the FG try.

Coach Smith, i agree… i still like CMR. Remember, though, a couple years back CMR’s play calling got predictable. Then we went with Bozo.

I didnt like it then, and dont like it know. If CMR is too be an effective CEO of this organization, he needs to spend more time finding talented coaches instead of talented players.

TALENTED RECRUIT + BAD COACHING = LOSSES

ABOVE AVERAGE RECRUIT + GREAT COACHING= WINS

Agree that poor coaching/execution potentially cost us a field goal. (not that it would have mattered, but it’s testimony to the big picture). If your guys are lined up, then run a damn play. We lost precious seconds. Then, we did not have the presence of mind to have the field goal team ready…

Again, preparation…

Cox…I’m starting to feel sorry for him. He’s a good kid. He waited his turn. Dang-it, he’s just not that good. Hell, he fumbled and thew a pick on the same play!

Lane Kiffin said he couldn’t have picked a more meaningful opponent to get his first SEC victory as Tennessee’s coach against than the Bulldogs.

“Powerful.’’

I have been a fan of UGA football since the late 70’s and I have never seen players play as they have this year. We all know that they have talent, but where is there heart. Coach Dooley didn’t always have top ten recruiting classes but he used the talent he had and won. When he had to make a tough decision concerning an assistant coach he made it. Now is the time to review each area of the team. If you see areas that have declined then make the necessary adjustments and turn it around. This team can win but first they must have coaches leading the team in making the necessary adjustments. Don’t do like Willie did and throw your playbook in the air. This simply shows that you have no idea what is going on and then you cannot lead them. We have problems on both sides of the ball but common sense tells you that defense wins ball games. As long as we keep Willie then we will continue to struggle. Let’s make the change now at this position and show the players and the fans that you are striving for improvement. Do it for the team.

OK, for reasons I don’t understand no one seems to get this is a rebuilding year. I don’t know why that’s so hard to admit. The team is down. It’s time to bench Cox and insert the QB of the future, whoever that might be, and put the sophomores and freshmen on the field. We are playing for 2011. We lost 85 percent of our offense. A bad offensive line doesn’t get better because it’s a year older, a clueless D coordinator will remain clueless. CMR is probably the best head coach uga has had, including Dooley, but he’s got to remove the blinders and know changes must to be made before the SEC East passes him by.

Kiffin is at it again: go to Sports Ill and read the recap: a couple of special quotes>

>>(Kiffin) basically made a promise to us that we wouldn’t lose to them anymore, forever or until he leaves,” Volunteers safety Eric Berry said. ”He’s not going to let Georgia beat us.”<>’I don’t know that I’ve ever been involved in a game where the defense didn’t let a team into the red zone one time,” Kiffin said.<<

I wonder how arrogant he will sound if his team were to secure a winning record!

For the guy that thought we should have run the field goal unit in with 1 second remaining and the clock about to start once the chains were set, you have got to be kidding, the confusion and trying to change your personnel at that moment would have been impossible, what i thought should have been done however is to complaing to the officials about the playclock not stopping with 3 seconds left after the 1st down, and then we could have spiked it and possibly had a chance at the field goal…

Just one question….why does Bozo like the pass so much? We run a pass play on second down no matter what the yardage. We were in 2nd in 3 or 4 several times today and tried to pass. Just pick up 2-3 yards on the 2nd down and then and then 2-3 on third and Shazam….its a first down. I don’t think in 5 years we have run the ball three times in a row starting on 1st down. Unless of course we are in the stupid power package from inside the 10 or if we decide to try and play ball control late in the game when everyone expects us to run. I bet every defensive coordinator laughs their arse off watching film of our offense.

What do you coach? Football? I told you Tennesse would run all over Ga. I didn’t think Ga. would totally quit.

Good coaches lose their staff to others programs, bad coaches staff never progresses and better themselfs. I direct reflection on Richt. Bad in real life and bad in sports. He is not doing anyone, including his staff any favors. Do you really think Bobo or Martinez could find another job in this conference.

I was really sentimental today. This dawg team is just like the Johnny Griffeth teams of ‘62 and ‘63. Things were so bad we would stay in the dorm and watch Rutgers play on a B&W 17″ tv. I had tears streaming down my face with all the sentiment.
What do we do now? PUNT!
