Looks like it’s going to be a looooong season

Brandon Boykin's return for a touchdown was one of the few bright spots for Georgia. (Associated Press)

Play-action.

Bootleg.

I just thought I’d throw out a couple of basic offensive football terms that Willie Martinez apparently isn’t familiar with.

As a result, Georgia made Jonathan Crompton look like an all-conference quarterback Saturday as Tennessee repeatedly ran the same basic plays over and over again to great success in a 45-19 butt-kicking.

Not that the loss can be pinned entirely on Georgia’s defense. Because the Dogs’ offense put on one of the most toothless, inept performances since … last week’s first half. No running game to speak of. And this week precious little passing game. You remember all the talk about how Georgia’s offensive line was terrible at run-blocking but good at pass protection? Today they weren’t even good at that, as Joe Cox repeatedly had to throw the ball away or had it batted down. Volunteer defenders spent more time in Georgia’s backfield than any of the three tailbacks the Dogs used in vain. The Dogs basically took the third quarter off.

Backup quarterback Logan Gray did finally get to play quarterback … and showed us little. He did complete his first pass as a Bulldog, to Marlon Brown (who finally got to make some catches), but generally threw poorly.

The only Bulldogs unit that had any positives in this game was, incredibly, the special teams, which accounted for most of Georgia’s points thanks to a 102-yard kickoff return by Brandon Boykin, a blocked punt for a safety by Zach Renner and a long field goal by Blair Walsh in addition to the pick-6 by Bacarri Rambo. Even then, the Dogs still had a terrible kickoff return that saw the Vols begin a drive in Dogs territory.

What else? Missed tackles galore. Tennessee receivers continually wide open. Poor play calling by Mike Bobo. And, again, Martinez appeared to be clueless.

And the dean of SEC coaches was outcoached by Lane Kiffin, who now has the right to say whatever he wants to when it comes to the Dogs.

Kirby Smart, please come home!

Anybody who wants RICHT gone has a SHORT MEMORY

Under DONNAN and GOFF, UGA could count on loses to UT, UF, AUB, and TECH was hit or miss

UGA went 20 YEARS WITHOUT AN SEC TITLE

RICHT HAS WON 2 in 8 SEASONS and played for a 3rd

Richt is NOT the problem, Willie Martinez and Coach Fabris ARE the problem

Forget about any 5 star recruits coming to Athens, from out of state at least, and UGA will be lucky to hold onto this class of freshman…I said this before, that CMR can’t treat top flight recruits like this, you can’t put inferior players ahead of these guys and expect them to just take it, worst organization in top flight college ball…they’ll be a big sucking noise as the future recruits and freshman players vacate Athens…all you homers, keep hanging on to those 10 win seasons, because they are a thing of memory for the next few years…almost every SEC team have changed coaches, and improved, or at least have positioned themselves to move forward…other schools always try to steal the best coaching talent away from each other, wonder if the OC & DC have unlisted #’s…poor Cox, he lived part of his dream, but he needs to start his coaching career now…hope Murray insists on a medical redshirt and never plays a down this season

After the GT-Clemson game, all my UGA buddies were howling at me that if not for 2 one-in-a-million ‘gimmick’ special teams plays, GT loses. Well, we won on 2 clever special teams plays. And they weren’t one in a million chances. My UGA friends just happened to be mathematically challenged. If not for 2 low probability special teams plays UGA gets blown out (A 100 yards KO return, and 53 yd FG are pretty rare). That’s the difference in coaching. CPJ makes plays to win. I’m not saying CMR is a bad coach, but he is making some decisions to hurt his team. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.. If you remember, Les Miles tried the same fake FG play against you guys last week.. didn’t work so well.

Dawg Fans – Maybe you have mediocre to average players. Coaching maybe just fine..Rememeber, you can put lipstick and dress up a monkey, it is still a monkey – same with UGA players…calling average talented players great for one or two catches, sacks, etc does not make them great players….
UGA – on the downhill (first it was UF, followed by UT and now it is UGA in the SEC east that will go thru’ bad years, coaches get fired and rebuilding efforts begin in 2011)

Shows how much you know about football my friend…stick to your armchair and 6-pack

And THAT MANY young players along with a DIFFICULT schedule is hard to overcome

there are changes that need to be made BUT to give up on all this talent is crazy (If you want to give up, Tech has space in their stands, go there)

If UGA had played an OHIO Bobcat, Charleston Souther, Troy, WKU then TODAY would have been their first or second loss BUT UGA Played OKST, SCAR, ARK, AZST, and UT

It does make a difference

Problems: UGA doesn’t have an SEC tailback yet. The QB has everything except an SEC arm. The coaches are running the offense as if they had Stafford or Greene or Shockley, along with Moreno or Brown or Ware…they are in denial. We need to spread the O and focus on short passes to our excellent receiving corps and backs out of the backfield–big-12 style. We have a Big 12 D, so we may as well convert the O as well. Go Dawgs.

I am a GA grad–69 and I agree–WM and Bobo and special team coach has got to go. I still wonder how you can call them “special” teams with what we had to endure. Where is the passion or pride that is no longer there from this team. I honestly believe that our asst coaches do not have a clue how to adjust to game situations. Very sickening to watch!~!

That was a pathetic performance from the staff thru players. Our offensive line couldn’t block Lowndes County. Willie Martinez can not and never has been able to make adjustments. We are not improved at tackling (Brian Evan couldn’t take me, Prince Miller couldn’t cover me) nor do we have any type of pass-rush. If Richt is too loyal to his staff and won’t make any changes, then the change needs to be made at the top. I like Coach Richt and I know he is a good man, but develop a team that strikes fear in an opponent. Send Bobo back to Jax State. His play calling is horrible. It’s the same 5 plays week in, week out.O Only play we are good at is the 53 yard field goal. Monte Kiffin was licking his chops to play us. Now is the time to get the younger guys more pt. Let Logan get more snaps, if not all of them. Spread the offense, run more no huddle, anything. There is no bite in these bulldogs!

Well i don’t really know what to say, i have been a staunch supporter of this team and will still be but i am shocked at how our team is looking and how we are being coached, realistically though from a offensive standpoint, it doesn’t appear that we have the personnel to line up in the I-formation and run the ball, don’t know if we can change our offensive scheme at the halfway point in the season, for the defense, i just don’t know, is it our scheme or just we don’t have the players, maybe we all have put too much in the recruiting class rankings, clearly we are not having the results that we would expect, i am probably as mad or disappointed in today’s performance as i have ever been, clearly there must be some changes, i don’t want jump off the ship, but unless things improve, we will continue to fall in the pecking order in the SEC…Coach Richt has got to find a way to not lose this team for the rest of the season, i’m afraid he probably has lost a large amount of fans…

Your obsession with all things Georgia Tech are showing. Tech down in academics? Yeah right. Even Tech’s business school is ranked ahead of Georgia’s.

I really don’t hate UGA, but man, you fans are un f’in believable. Why in the world would Bill Cowher or Gruden have any interest in coaching a second tier SEC program? Those guys have won Super Bowls people!! Jeeeeesus.

UGA has produced some incredible football players, problem is, they don’t play for the name on the front, they play for the name on the back. You’re just not all that you’d like to believe you are. Deal with it.

Thank goodness, now we can admit that this season in a rebuilding effort and play the younguns – as in young guns. Cox is a nice kid with limited talent and who is not going to take us anywhere.

Also, now maybe the Willie era is officially coming to an end. Look, when someone burns you once – ok, twice – maybe ok, but over and over and over and over.. gimme a freaking break.

And all you wussies who keep saying “I’m a real fan because I don’t complain” – STFU!
Complaining about piss poor play doesn’t make someone less of a DAWG fan.

Besides that lame excuse…have you seen how well FLA’s BACKUP QB is doing? We should be so lucky to have a replacement QB who is not only WELL COACHED, but who can step in and pick up where his predecessor left off.

I have and will always be a fan, but sometimes you have to call a spade a spade.

Martinez and probably Bobo need to go. We need proven offensive and defensive coaching-level talent. This is not the county recreation league, folks!

It will probably get even worse before it gets better.

Two coaches summarize the game:
