Dogs’ defense let down by offense, special teams

Dogs' running game was ineffectual. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

Dogs' running game was ineffectual. (Brant Sanderlin / AJC)

There are two ways to view Saturday’s Georgia-LSU game.

One is that a Dogs defense that spent way too much time on the field because of a lack of support from its offensive brothers still managed to come within just over a minute of knocking off the No. 4 team in the country.

The other way to look at it is that No. 4 LSU was revealed as anything but a Top 5 team as it barely escaped an opponent that looked absolutely inept on offense for much of the day.

It sure feels better to go with the first point of view.

One thing’s for sure: Georgia was done in once again by penalties and special teams.

Yes, that was an extremely lame celebration call against the Dogs after A.J. Green’s spectacular go-ahead touchdown catch. But the fact that SEC officials throw that flag should be well-known to Georgia players by now. It wasn’t even the first unsportsmanlike call on the Dogs in that game. The officials shouldn’t be throwing those flags, but they do. Apparently, they want no show of emotion in college football.  So Mark Richt’s team must learn to do its celebrating on the sideline.

And then compounding Georgia having to kick off from its own 15 yard line with 1:09 left was the Dogs’ inability to cover the kick properly and additional yards being tacked on to the return into Georgia territory because the kickoff team lined up illegally.

So LSU ends up with the ball at Georgia’s 37, and after playing tough in the red zone most of the day, the Dogs’ tired defense gave up a long touchdown run.

Not a good way to lose a hard-fought game.

Positives for Georgia? Well, Green was brilliant, as usual. And while the Dogs’ running attack was feeble most of the day, true freshman Washaun Ealey gave us flashes of the future with nice runs and injected some energy into the generally lifeless Georgia offensive effort when he was inserted into the game in the second half.

It’s not much, but it’ll have to do.

First!!!

Martinez has to go, our inability to wrap up and tackle people is getting absurd. Terrible calls by the refs on the no pass interference against White in the end zone, along with the BS excessive celebrations against Orson and AJ.

Agree with your comments Bill….Just hate that we got the loss as it appear the we had pulled out a great victory……I don’t like the way the refs called the excessive celebration…do they still have it in for CMR because of the Fla game a couple of yrs ago..I like to see emotion…I like to see the players happy when they do something good…let them play…we are grown folks…I would just call the penalty if it was taunting another player or something like that..

Bulldogs should have lost by a lot more. Coaching staff has no faith in Cox but continues to play him. How many times will we throw the short pass to Chapas? If we don’t play the younger guys we’ll be in the same situation next year. Didn’t we learn anything from Tereshinski?

Have to get more consistent on offense and must have multiple threats…AJ is phenomenal, Ealey looks like the best we have….disappointed in Samuel and King today..they just don’t run tough enough….Want to use Evans more on offense….Cox has got to be more accurate…..want to see Gray, Murray or Mettenberger play more as we have to get a QB ready for next yr…It hurts us this yr that Cox does not have much prior game experience….suppose the coaches don’t think the other QB’s are ready..

CMR’s job is to win SEC championships, & while I would not bet on it this year, we are still very much in the hunt. Tough loss. Tough officiating. Fun to watch. BTW, it’s just a game – go tell your kids you love them.

I cannot believe people could still be calling for Willie Martinez’s head after today’s game. If our defense played as well as our offense did today, we wouldn’t be talking about near-misses, but rather embarrassing blowouts. The D finally showed up this season and held LSU to just two field goals to show for the entire first half; it was the OFFENSE that produced ZERO points in that same period.
, and in fact waited until the fourth quarter to produce ANYTHING. All those UGA three-and-outs? The 1-11 third down conversion rate from the first half? Don’t hang that on the defense, baby.

If there were any drastic changes to be made, it’s these: give Easley a LOT more playing time, and start using Logan Gray as more than a punt returner. From what we saw today, it’s clear that Easley has more energy than the other RBs, and unlike the other backs, he showed an ability to run between tackles, and not into them.

As for Gray, the very least we can do is try out different options. I’m not calling for a complete switch to a 2-QB system, but getting Gray some snaps in any combination of Wildcat or shotgun formations (or, of course, option plays) couldn’t be much worse than what we saw up until the final quarter today. It’s painfully apparent that while his is a heartwarming story, Joe Cox is not bringing the level of performance that the team needs. Take out this season’s phenomenal bailout catches by A.J. Green, and you have an extremely sub-par starting QB for this conference. In the SEC, you simply can’t take three quarters to “warm up.” Mark Richt knows that the best thing to do is let the best players play, regardless of age or endearment of the fans (just ask Joe Tereshinski).

I will say that the excessive celebration penalty was absolutely bogus. But be that as it may, if our offense had played half as well as our defense today, that penalty would have been a complete non-factor.

Under Richt we always play until the last play. WE never put a team away. We just need to learn that there is 2 halves of football not a scrimmage for 1st team offense or 1st team defense. Offense and defense needs to play 60 minutes!!! We always put our offense in gear when we absolutely have to. But if we are ahead we play like oh well!!!!!!! no big deal we will get it back and score!!! This team is so predicable I could coach against them and win!!! If we are ahead we run 1st and 2nd down!!! Then on 3rd and 6 or more we have to have a perfect pass and a catch which never happens unless we are behind!!! Tell Bobo we have a senior qb that has studied defenses for 4 years now!!! turn him lose!!! Under Richt we play not to lose instead of playing to win!!!!!!!!!!! I like Richt but if you have a coach that has is layed back get a player or coach that will get in these kids face and fire them up!!!!! The special teams and defense coached by Martinez STINK!!!!!!!!!! WE need agressive play if we are ever going to be a power house!!!!!!!!!!! We have the players now coach them up and make them play 60 full minutes and coach to win!!!! Have the coaches coach to win instead of coaching not to lose!!!!!!!!! We always have either offense or defense not show up for a half of football!!! Players the G-day game is over!!!!!!! WE Play 1st team offense and defense for 60 minutes not 30!!!!!!!!

First off, everyone in the Sec knows the celebration penalties have been called tight for years. Maybe if the Bulldogs started acting like they have been there before they would get less penalties for excessive celebration. How about stop recruiting thugs that always have to point at their own greatness.
Second, Georgia lost to a better team that was shooting themselves in the foot quite often in the first half. The only thing that kept the Bulldogs in the game was LSU’s bad play calling.
Once again, Delusional Georgia fans, your teams are not as good as you think thy are.

With the exception of the last LSU touchdown the defense played a great game. The offense was uninspired and predictable until the very end. We need to get the younger backs in the game earlier, including the next quarterback.

Watching other games before and after this one it was clear that celebrating a clutch catch or touchdown does not draw an automatic flag; saw 3 penalties for excessive celebration so far today, all in the Georgia LSU game. Say what you will but that call was the game breaker for Georgia. Go Dawgs!

Hey stendec:

1. Despite CBS’s promotional videos, very few people consider UGA/LSU to be a rivalry. Florida, Tech, Auburn, Tennessee, even South Carolina (although really only because of Spurrier); THOSE are rivalries. LSU is as much our rival as Arkansas (maybe less, thanks to that snivelling weasel Bobby Petrino).

2. Why would you fire Mark Richt? He made all the right play calls, managed the clock by calling all the right timeouts, and had the wherewithall to change things up by adding Easley when it was clear his inital plan wasn’t working. Plus, why do you think we played better in the second half, after the team went in for halftime? GOOD COACHING. As for “worst motivator in history”… were you alive and conscious in 2007? Remember the TD celebration at Florida? Or the Blackout against Auburn? Believe it or not, dude, coaching a game in real life is somewhat different than doing so on Xbox, and Mark Richt is very, very good at it. If you’re looking to blame someone, blame the PLAYERS who let the coach down today.

3. “No defense”? Did you actually watch this game, or just replays from earlier in the season?

4. “Uninspired debacles”… I’m confident that each and every one of the 93,000 people in Sanford Stadium, who stayed until the VERY LAST PLAY, would disagree with you. Poorly executed, yes. Uninspired? Hardly.

The poor offensive play in the 1st half is the primary reason for the loss. We flat dont have a good QB or a good OC. Stop trying to pin this loss on the officials. That’s lame and a complete copout. All games have questionable officiating calls.

The UGA offense was totally non-existent in the first half. Walsh even missed a chip shot FG. Cox overthrows, underthrows, doesn’t notice secondary receivers that are open, tries to sling it into double and triple coverage. He’s not accurate, has a slow release, and he’s very erratic. One drive he’ll look brilliant (thanks to AJ) and the next five drives he looks like a HS freshman. If he’s the best UGA has, then we suck worse at QB position than we have in 20yrs.

The season is far from over. But the butt whippings are still to come.

I was impressed by our Defense for the majority of the game…and I have been on here for a while questioning whether Willie should have a job. The fact of the matter is on LSU’s last TD run, they found a way to block Rennie, who usually makes that tackle. So either they were really lucky on that play or their OC made an adjustment to block Rennie…either way, we lose.

I do believe that the kids played their hearts out tonight. Hats off to the coaches for breaking out Ealey (yes its Ealey folks). He provided a needed spark. Love Joe Cox…and I think he’ll make one heck of a coach or fisherman…but damn. I’ll give you a few missed passes because these are kids…but some of the passes were just silly. It has been said before but without AJ, I think the coaches have a lot more trouble not benching Cox.

What are we really gaining over the other guys with all his “experience?” I mean Gray might miss just as many passes as Cox did tonight…or he might not have missed as many! What about this Murray kid? Let’s give them all a series with assigned plays rather that reading the defense and getting into the right play. Hell for the rest of the season, I wouldn’t mind seeing us run the Oklahoma/Troy offense wher they look to the sideline to find the right play to aid our inexperienced QB’s.

It still doesn’t feel right. The offensive playcalling wouldn’t beat the computer on NCAA Football 2009! We don’t fool anybody. Coach Richt…please start calling the plays again!!

Joe Cox simply is not an SEC caliber starting QB.

Overthrew AJ Green for an easy TD early on in the game, had several bad misses throughout the game and holds on to the ball way too long at times in the pocket. His ball also has no zip and it seems to float a lot longer therefore giving DB’s the time to close in and make plays on the WR-ers.

Richard Samuel is a decent backup RB, but doesn’t have the field vision or elusiveness to break long runs. With his high energy “motor” he should be switched over to LB where he could be a Beast of a player.

Ealey looks like a future star in the making.

What will it take for CMR to make a change at QB from Cox to Logan or Aaron (after all, they are the future, Cox will be out of here)? Also possibly moving Samuel over to LB…if not during the season, then possibly in the off-season.

Last but not least, Coach Bobo’s play calling left a lot to be desired. At times seemed to be completely out of sink.

Georgia is paying the price for that celebration crap at the Florida game two years ago. The bullseye is on them now. It may not be fair and it doesn’t matter. This damn team needs to be more disciplined because of two years ago. Georgia has to do it a little better than the other team because of that Florida game. It feels like this team is getting picked on a little bit by the refs.

Our running backs suck! Defense played pretty good until LSU’s last two drives…….probably because they spent too much time on the field already. Special teams still sucks……..can’t cover kicks at all. That missed field goal didn’t help either. Our running game really sucks! We will lose a lot more games if we don’t come up with someone who can run the damn football!

I usually don’t post on this blog, but I will add my thoughts on the game. I will say that I thought the D played great today. Our O was terrible the first 1/2. I’m surprised they didn’t pull Cox. But, he did play well the 2nd 1/2. Too little too late though. That excessive celebration penalty probably cost us the game. Anyways, next week’s another game.

Finally, dumb penalties at inopportune times have caught up with the bulldogs. I can’t and won’t say that the Green penalty cost us the game because it should not have come down to that anyway. In all fairness, I think Coach Richt lost his team today and I don’t think he will get them back. Look for losses against Tennesse, Florida, Auburn, and Ga. Tech. If Richt can survive, I know he will sit down with Damon Evans to discuss making changes on both sides of the ball. If UGA wants to compete for championships, a change at the top is necessary. If they want to be content with 8-4 amd 9-3 seasons, keep the current coaching staff in place but they are quickly falling behind in the SEC.

My rambling thoughts…

It sucks to lose I dont care who you play.

We let them off the hook at the end- everyone knows you have to play 60 minutes against Les Miles teams.

The celebration penalties:

The one on Orson Charles was justified because he was drawing attention to himself.

The one on AJ was not- he didn’t do a damn thing.

The one on Charles Scott – he did’nt really do anything wrong either so it looked like a make up call.

CMR- Thanks for playing Washaun Ealey- he injected energy…

Oh well….we lost 2 in 2007 and then ran the table but this team doesn’t have that kind of identity….it could get worse before it gets better.

If that penalty for excessive celebration was the correct call, then every touchdown in college football should have a flag thrown, and every kickoff should happen from the 15 yard line.Watched it over and over, in no way do AJ Green try to draw attention to himself.I dont know how many games I watched today, and touchdowns scored with more celebrating and posturing than that with no penalty. 1:09 left and that called that on that S&%! and tried to say he was drawing attention to himself.

Pathetic officiating…..the referees so badly want to play a role in every game they interject themselves into every play. It is sickening.

As for this team, I am sure CMR is pleased, about the defense and willie. But frankly I was more impressived with Arkansas’s offense than LSUs. They could not run, well until that last play. But they sure could throw that pass to THE WIDE OPEN RECEIVERS! And lets have some penalties in the end for good measure.

Some players on this team need to step up besides AJ Green. Glad that Ealey finally got in there. Could be the start of something special, but only time will tell.

As for the offense, seems like they made LSU defense look like world beaters for three qtrs. The announcer said that the UGA coaches did not trust Cox with the game, hence the limited playcalling. IF that is the case, THEN GET A QB YOU DO TRUST IN THE GAME, OR OPEN UP THE PLAYBOOK!The guy is a 5th year senior for pete’s sake.Either he can handle it our he cannot, if he cannot, lets take our predicted lumps with a new QB that can use this years experience next year. Cox had 5 games and that is reward enough.Senority does not begit position and reward in the real world.Performance does! And for three QTRs he did not lead this team to the red zone. That is the facts.

Congrats LSU…good game. Now please if you could play better next week we would appreciate it. Although I dont know if it will make much difference when our turn comes around.

First of all, Real Georgia fans support this team no matter what happens on the scoreboard. Thought Georgia played with alot of character today. The game could have gone either way. Anybody that is calling for coaches to be fired needs to get a life. College football is sport to be enjoyed not a life or death situation. Of course, We all know that the ones screaming for the coaches to be fired are usually the people who either sucked in football or never played football at all. They are trying to make up for their deficiencies by acting like they are smarter than the coaches that we have now.

Special teams and penalties. What more do we need to say. TV kept us from really seeing the celebration for the penalty, However, we know the rules, and we know the outcomes. If you are up by 1 or 2, you don’t need to give anyone 15 extra yards. Defense did a good job, and offense did a fair job in the 2nd half. Whatever was going on in the first half on offense needs to be bottled up and dropped in the bottom of a well and have holy water sprinkled on it. Otherwise, we lost to #4 and we had them beat. Best showing of the year, BY FAR, for the defense. Listen, folks..the D didn’t lose that game for us. I realize the three missed tackled on the TD run hurt. No doubt. Also no doubt that the D had been stellar until that point, with absolutely no help from the O, which is still sporadic, and the special teams, which are beyond abysmal. Richard Samuel runs hard, and breaks tackles, but he is not a guy that will get to the edge, he doesn’t have that lateral speed and quickness. So, why do we keep sweeping him, and using Caleb the overrated up the middle? Didn’t we sign Carlton Thomas just so he could get in space, use his quickness to get outside? Is he still on the team? My fear is that our O coordinator has plenty of tools, but no imagination. I also see that our O line, heralded as it has been, is not a good run blocking group. This one hurt, because it is so easy to see where events from earlier in the game, i.e. celebration penalties, missed passes, poor passes, dropped passes, lack of blocking, etc..put the D in the position of sitting on the field for way too long, and left the gassed on the last drive. I know we’re only two years beyond finishing #2 in the nation, but our staff seems to have become stale, or in disarray in one season. No continuity or improvement on the offensive side, and no clue on the special teams side. Weird.

If we start rotating qb’s ,our offense will be as mixed up as it is rotating three now four running backs. Settle on one, run him until he gets tired and then run the next one. I wonder what ratio of run blocking to pass blocking we have at practice and how much rotation at practice we have between the four backs? There seems there will be no rhythm until only one is chosen and used as in the qb situation. Ealey was fresh in the fourth quarter. I assume the others were too since we did not run them very much.

One positive note: Easley looked energetic, ran hard, and looked like he got through the meager holes that were opened much quicker than Caleb or Richard. And yet, on the last drive, he wasn’t in. Guess he’s not much of a pass blocker.

What else have we heard, Brown is not ready, Cox is our best QB, Willie knows what he is doing and so does BoBo…………….

Yes the D was on the field all day, however we still saw the exact same defense we have seen all year. Wide open LSU receivers. One quarter of pressure on the QB the 3rd. The opposing O throws up on itself and yes our D plays better in the redzone. However on the two most crucial drives our true D shows up. We allowed LSU to go 88 yards the get the lead 12-7. Then because of a bogus call the D let’s them go 38 yards on the next drive. I saw the exact same D tonight I have seen all year.

Now on to all of the posts on the blogs about this being a YOUNG team!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please people, do you know anything about this team at all. Who is costing us games? It’s certainly not the young guys. The young guys are the only reason we are 3-2 and not 0-5.

Defense carried the team because Cox is inept! Cox missed a wide open Green, then Green was wide open on another play and Cox never looked at him. Cox does not see the field well and is not an accurate passer. I hope you guys who were glad Stafford was gone are happy now. Cox is less accurate than Stafford, cannot stretch the field with the long pass and is on pace to eclipse Stafford’s ints, when Stafford was a freshman! He does not have Stafford’s ability to manage the game and cannot read defenses. The running game will continue to suck wind as long as opponents can run seven to ten in the box because Cox cannot hit the open man. My grades for the team. Defense-B- THe defense didn’t make some key stops, but they kept UGA in the game. WR- B- The wrs caught the ball most of the time, if Cox looked for them and could get them the ball. RBs-c-, Samuel didn’t play well, King played pretty well, considering that their D could play comfortably with seven plus in the box. Ealey could make a difference, if Cox is benched. QB- F-! UGA has two losses, one in the conference. Both of the losses can be placed squarely on the shoulders of Joe Cox. Cox will never win a SEC title. Bench Cox and play Gray if he can play. If Gray is not a DIV 1 QB, play Murray and get him ready for next year. There is nothing to be gained by playing Cox now.

The officiating crew said, in a statement provided by the SEC later Saturday night, that “following a brief team celebration, Green made a gesture to the crowd calling attention to himself,” thus drawing the flag.

So everytime Tebow flaps his arms in the air to the crowd he should be penalized 15yds. Let’s wait and see if that happens but don’t hold your breath

My first thought after this game was that we’d seen this before – some killer penalties due to lack of discipline, and some bad tackling (last LSU play reminded me of the hip-check against Tech last year). We beat these topics to eath a coulple of weeks ago on one of these blogs.

The first celebration penalty might have been warranted (but better coaching should have prevented it). You could see that one coming. The second (against AJ) was a joke.

Dawgs need to hire Herschel as ‘Assistant Head Coach for Celebrations’. He could definitely teach them some things. Just ran over Bill Bates and scored your first TD as a freshman? Flip the ball to the offical. Just outran 3 guys that had the angle on you? Ho hum, been there before. Just ran through a bunch of tackles and broke off along TD? Hand it to the official – this is boring, gimme a challenge.

I’ve said from the beginning that Ealey needs to be the starter and Thomas is definately a better back than Caleb King or Samuel,he has good vision and can see the lanes open up plus he is not scared to take a hit.
Cox is terrible. He has a slow delivery, stares down his primary receiver and does not have the arm strength or velocity to open up the field or thread the needle into coverage plus he has no peripheral vision or awareness as pressure is applied on his blind side and mark my word, he is going to take a severe, unchecked, blindside hit at some point. If CMR had any coaching sense he should have put him on the bench for the second half and put in his future QB Gray and start prepping this kid for next year. Cox made terrible throws in the 1st half as he has also made similar lousy passes so far this season. Compare him as a 4th year senior to someone like D.J.Shockley, not even close. You apologists can cheer this kid all you want but I’m a realist and this guy will prove to be “the little train that could’nt”.
And last, besides Curran, is there anybody else on this team that can wrap up and put someone on the ground? Without pushing them forward 8 or 9 yards? One of the worst tackling defenses I have ever seen. Basic fundamentals are lacking. No excuse. Loyalist Richt will never assum accountability until the hand is forced.

Mike Bobo’s play-calling didn’t help; Cox needed safe passes to get on-track, and they just weren’t called. We threw the ball to the tight end ONCE all game; how many screens did we throw? One. A quarterback has to get into rhythm when he doesn’t start a game in one, and Bobo did little to make that happen.

I also question WHY Ealey wasn’t STILL in the game, later, when his spark could’ve help us overcome our late deficit in the final drive. We keep trudging Caleb and Richard out there, and it was CLEAR that Ealey was the only guy finding holes and running through ‘em the entire game.

Big props to Willie and the defense; they have clearly improved, and that’s cause for optimism. They play like that with a competent QB performance by us, and we’d win out (yeah, I said it).

Of course we know that won’t happen, because it’s hard to predict ANYthing about this year’s team. When the offense is humming, the defense is bumming, and vice versa, apparently. We’ve YET to play a “complete” game this year.

First of all, the refs did not cost us the game. senoiadawgs, Wanting to see our dawgs play better and improve is not bad. Being angry that our guys did not play up to their potential is fine. This constant gripping about our coaches as though they are stupid is unacceptable in my view. These people are not helping the program and maybe doing harm to recruiting. I think if they are so upset then maybe they should look for a different team.

What’s so frustrating is that we end up beating ourselves. Missed FG, Undisciplined players drawing penalties, missing tackles, etc. QB that can’t manage a game and RBs that lack vision. We played well enough to win but played terribly. LSU deserved to win today but by a lot more than they did. We’re lucky to have only lost 2 to be honest.

A little history for you:

2004 Penalties and yardage – 94 for 795 yards
2005 77 for 697
2006 78 for 611
2007 91 for 760
2008 112 for 938
2009 115 for 900 (first five games prorated for the entire season)

Since the infamous endzone celebration with the Gators UGA penalties have risen at an unbelievable rate. An increase of between 20 and 25% in number of penalties and 30 to 35% in yardage.

Dear SEC Referees,
We concede. We were wrong in sending the entire team on the field. With the results of the LSU game today we realize that you the Referees are in complete and total control of the games. You and the SEC do not need the U of GA, but we do need you and the SEC. We will never try to upstage you, the SEC nor the NCAA ever again. The game is far bigger than The U of GA. Please forgive UGA for its past transgressions.

Sincerely,

Is Cox hurt more than we have been led to believe? Passes were behind recievers on speed routes, and the TD to Chapas was almost on the ground. Maybe there is more to it than the coaches have admitted. Just a thought, maybe that is why he didn’t try to block on the reverse. If his shoulder is really hurt, they don’t let him pass on a couple of days a week, and the long pass to King was one which King had to slow down to get. Just a thought. He is still our QB and this team is our team. They have done alot more than they were supposed to do, and they still have over half the season to go. GO DOGS.

OK td I’ll bite. Wanting our team to perform to their potential is something that all UGA fans have in common. We all want our team to play as well as they possibly can. When the same things happen over and over again that keep our team from reaching that potential…some of us wonder why this happens–and more imprtantly what must change to stop it. Those of us that want our team to perform better offer our opinions on these blogs…as is customary on blogs. If you do not want to hear or read anything but the party line, stay off the blogs and read or watch Coach Richt’s post game press conferences, or listen to the only players he lets speak to the media.

The bottom line is this: SEC Officials call it extra extra close on the dawgs and have done so since our end-zone celebration against Florida two years ago. Our team is undisciplined which leads to penalties anyway…the flag happy SEC Officials exacerbates this inate problem in our team and cost us a whole bunch of yards. We are generally out of synch on offense and defense…and are successful only in spurts. If not for AJ Green we are probably 1 and 4, if not 0 and 5.

I’ll say it once more because it bears repeating…my desire for our dawgs to be more successful than they currently are does not in any way make me less of a fan, as half of these posts suggest.

Enter your comments here The game was exciting. The Georgia defense played a really strong game.
The defense made some great plays. As I read the fans comments about the game and losing—all of
“yall” could tell LSU doesn’t have all of their game together but they are improving some each week. Today, Scott got that little crack-opening on that last touchdown run and was able to go all the way. So
far this season he hasn’t been getting many openings from the offensive line—he got that opening and
made the best of it. I am grateful for the win over a tough Georgia team. I wish the Bulldogs the best
and hope we can keep improving each week. Again, good luck to the Georgia players and coaches
and hopefully they can keep on improving and have a successful season.
