LSU fans grumble amid success, too

Georgia has a 3-1 record after four games against BCS opponents, two of them on the road, and yet the bulk of the discussion among sports columnists and fans alike is what’s wrong with the Dogs. Three turnovers per game. Not much of a running attack. Inconsistent defense. Spotty special teams play. Too many penalties.

Heck, some folks even get outraged that the Dogs like to dance during TV timeouts!

But Mark Richt isn’t alone in hearing fan flak amid success. Les Miles can relate.

Despite an undefeated record and lofty national ranking, LSU fans aren’t happy about the narrow victory over Mississippi State and the fact that the Tigers have underperformed in a number of areas, including having the 105th ranked offense in the country.

The Shreveport Times’ Bayou Bengals Blog summed up LSU’s situation like this: “Their fan base may be the most displeased in the history of the game as far as a No. 4-ranked, undefeated team is concerned.”

And the Baton Rouge Advocate’s Gary Laney said: “Of the 17 unbeaten teams, LSU probably ranks dead last in fan-base morale.”

Laney notes that, “In a week after LSU’s 30-26 Southeastern Conference win at Mississippi State, I’ve flipped on the radio to hear a talk radio listener call for the job of offensive coordinator Gary Crowton … I’ve called up a message board to see somebody else begging Les Miles, who just improved to 46-11 as the Tigers coach, to find a different job at season’s end. And the e-mails … let’s not even go there.”

Even the optimistic among the Tiger faithful, like this And the Valley Shook blogger, acknowledge the dissension: “I think that things still aren’t as dismal as the rest of LSU Nation tends to believe. We won, for crying out loud. But then again, we won ugly again.”

Sound familiar?

What it comes down to is that’s just life among the SEC elite: Both LSU and Georgia have the kind of programs where it’s not just enough to win any more. They’re expected to look good doing it. Up to this point, neither team has done that consistently.

After Saturday, one fan base will have even more to wail about.

Oh don’t get me wrong Bill, I’m ecstatic about being 3-1 right now. But we have 3 turnovers a game for a total of 12. It’s hard to get excited about what we can do until that gets corrected.

This LSU game is crucial for the 2009 Georgia Bulldog Season. Coach Richt has to have his players coached up, focused, and ready to execute properly on the field for this game on Saturday. Anything less than that will leave the Bulldogs wasting another opportunity to perform under national attention.

The Dogs are still in it with the caliber of competition left on the schedule. One good game at a time will still make this season good in the end. The talent is evident on this team. However, the output of that talent has been inconsistent. So, it is time for the coaching staff to finally step up and do their job in preparation for another big game in the SEC. The Georgia Bulldogs can do it. Go Dogs!!

Time for the DAWGS to step up in a big way. If we do cut out the penalties and turnovers we will win. Play as we have the past 4 games and we will get run out of our own stadium. Thing that bothers me is that we are still talking about the same mistakes as last year. It should have been corrected by now.

Of the 40 some-odd one-loss teams in the country, UGA probably ranks #1…in terms of the number of inexplicably optimistic fans (none of which seem to have watched any of the previous four games).

We need that old fashion thing called coaching. We’ve had complaints about offense, defense, speical teams, penalties, turnovers. All can be related by one head coach who doesn’t seem to be really interested. May be getting time to try something other than coaching.

Tech fan here. After Saturday’s games, we will know a lot more about both UGA and GT…if Georgia limits the turnovers & penalties, they have a great chance to win…the Bulldogs are a very resilient team this year, and believing in yourself is a big factor against a team like LSU.

Good luck to the Loyal Opposition, avoid the injuries, and we’ll see you on The Flats in November.

mcdaviddawg, maybe it’s time you try something besides blogging..It looks like you want to show everyone how stupid you are. Did you even play football or are you one of those people who seem to know more than the coaches. Why aren’t you coaching if you know so much?

If the Dawgs go out and take care of the ball, do what they are capable of doing, rotating the Run and pass at the time least expected, LSU WILL GO DOWN.
