A signature game for Joe Cox

So much for questions about Joe Cox’s arm.

A record-tying five touchdowns and throwing for 375 yards.

But one question: When when did Georgia move to the Big 12 conference?

There were still too many turnovers. Way too many penalties. A frustratingly ineffective kickoff game. And the defense gave up nearly 500 yards of offense and five touchdown passes by Ryan Mallett.

But the Dogs again showed a remarkable resiliency, too. One thing you can say about this Georgia team is they don’t get rattled when they get down.

And Georgia comes out of Fayetteville with a big road win.

The difference in the game?

The redhead with the bad shoulder and supposedly weak arm. With several helping hands from A.J. Green, Michael Moore, Tavares King and Orson Charles.

All Mark Richt asked of Cox this game was to get better. Mission accomplished. And then some.

Time to celebrate!

More to come.

Well, I am less worried about Joe, and about the offense now. I mean, we have to PROTECT the ball, but we now know what we had hoped was the case. Joe CAN play the game. Let’s worry about the defense as we all usually do.

Let Joe enjoy this one..he earned it. GOOD JOB JOE!!!

AJ Green is the best receiver in the country. He is a super freak. Just throw it in his vicinity and he goes airborne and brings it down.

Amazing! Go Dawgs!

Amen! Way too many penalties and turnovers. Can’t afford to keep getting down by 10 or 11 and hoping for a comeback. Ark. receivers made some awesome circus catches on well defended receivers. Great win by the “TEAM”.

I’ll take the SEC road win but we have to be more disciplined. Too many turnovers and penalties. At times the offense seemed unstoppable. Zino, I think your right, AJ is the best receiver in the country!
As a lifetime Falcons fan it was really nice to beat Petrino too!

GO DAWGS!

Was I the only Dawg fan that didn’t throw Joe under the bus before the season started and again after the OSU game? Way to go JOE! Should have over 400 yards passing and 6 TD passes. T. King dropped a beautiful long ball from Cox. Stafford could throw the ball a mile and a hundred miles an hour but not sure I ever saw him have a game this good. Joe was on the money. His stats for passes over 15 yards were amazing. The D is awful. Not sure how many times Razorback receivers caught the ball with no Georgia defenders within 10 yards of them. No excuse for that mess. Fix it Willie or go away!

Go Dawgs!

I never thought i’d post this comment, but the defense is weak and Martinez needs to be replaced. i’ve seen enough evidence over the course of the past two seasons. The coach is bad, however congratulations to the team on a very good offensive performance!

How many freakin times does our offense have to score 40+ points to win? Let’s beat the dead horse again…..What does it take for someone at UGA to realize that WM is NOT NOT NOT a defensive coordinator?

Don, all of us who have posted replies THUS far are right there with you on Joe. With the way the players respected and spoke of him, we KNEW this was the Joe we had, the one we saw tonight. He did a great job, and he did what he had to do…It was obvious in his post game interview, that he is the leader and the players look to him. Go dawgs

Joe’s better than Stafford in my book. I still remember the Coloradoo game at home a few years back when Stafford struggled and Joe came in and saved the day! Go JOE COX!!

One word for Willie: Blitz more and your defense want struggle as much as they have for the last three games.

The dawgs are a well coached, well prepaired, inspired team. How in the hell can anyone call for pulling Cox? Bobo did a good job, WM did a good job. THEY NEVER QUIT. What else can you ask a team to do? I just hope they play a Perfect game and BEAT the gators. Because thats what they will have to do to win that one.

Enter To the Joe Cox haters out there. It’s time to eat a little crow. In fact, if you have any class at all, you should write the kid a letter of apology. I’ll even do it for you. All you have to do is cut and paste. That’s 2… 8 to go….

Dear Joe,

I am writing to apologize for all of the vile things that I have posted about you since the Oklahoma State game. It turns out that you are are a much better QB than I thought. Your game management against Arkansas was superb. In fact, you put on a clinic out there tonight. The touch you showed was first rate and you have a lot more zip on the ball when needed than I gave you credit for.

Thank you for sticking with the Dawgs and not transferring. I promise that I’ll keep my “never played football in my life” mouth shut and will root hard for you that rest of the season.

Kindest regards,

Your new biggest fan

P.S. Stay healthy…

Hey guys I want to thank everyone for their support and concern I am seriously considering firing Willie this year however I need a little assistance…What I need you to do is flood Michael Adams and Damon Evans phones with your disgust so that they will make the decision. I have never fired a coach in my life and I am inexperienced at firing anyone….however after being on the sideline and seeing that crap that Willie calls his defense it is now time to sacrifice him for the team and the overall stability of the program….so in ending I want to thank Willie for his years of hard work and for the defense consistently getting worse every year since the real defensive genius Brian Van Gorder left….oh and yeah Willie please take that worthless Jon Fabris with you….thanks again and God Bless, Coach.

Fired up for the win and very excited for Cox.

Defense was again put in tough positions with turnovers, but they didn’t help their case with terrible pass coverage throughout most of the game. Seems to me like our D actually plays better with a short field … when they don’t need to worry about getting torched deep.

dawgstephen, I agree. Cox lead this team tonight from start to finish. He played with poise of a 4 year starter tonight. He has had to fight his entire time at UGA for the recognition he earned tonight. I am proud that Cox is our QB and I hope he continues to have the success he has had these last two games. I hate he had the flu for the first game. I don’t know if it would have changed the outcome of the OSU game or not, but I hate it anyway. Cox is a gamer.

Joe Cox, good game. WR and RB’s good game. O-line what a joke. Willie let’s see you are responsible for the D as a whole and the secondary. What part of our D got torched? I will be dreaming about open ARK. wide receivers without a white jersey in the picture.

Geez, what more does he have to do to get fired, maybe if he gives up 70 to FL or GT he will finally get canned.

About the penalities, new rule if you make dumb penalty you don’t play for at least a quarter or the rest of the half. Folks the turnovers and penalties have to stop and hopefully the plane will leave AR tonight without Willie.

I’m not surprised about JC… he has a great resume and is a studied, practiced leader…Eveyone on the team, coaches to players, said he was the MAN this year so why shouldn’t we be patient give them all the benefit of the doubt BEFORE exhibiting our Dawg like, knee-jerk reactions?

Great win, but why can’t we ever commit less than 10 penalties??? Why can’t we have a game without five false starts on third down??? Why does Willie Martinez’s defense leave receivers so wide open there isn’t even a UGA defender on the TV screen when the ball is caught.

The offense saved this day, but we still have BIG problems, I’m afraid.

As an eye witness to many of coach Erk Russell’s defensive gems, I’m absolutely certain he’s sore from rolling over in his grave after watching another attempt by Willie Martinez to coach the Junkyard Dawgs defense. What a freakin’ joke. It’s somewhat comforting however, to watch the progress of the offense. We’re gonna need the offense.

I can forgive and at times overlook the play of inexperienced defensive players. But when the TV commentators and the armchair qb’s (me) can call the play and the appropriate defense and Willie cannot…

Honestly, there is not a game on the schedule we can’t win (even li’l Timmy T. and the Gaytors), if stupid mistakes like cheap turnovers and stupid penalties can be fixed AND the defense figures out what they want to do. I think D is too agressive, doesn’t play in control and react to the play, too much overpursuit and inneffective blitzing

Dawgs won by 30 points if they clean up the stupid mistakes. Willie did drop 8 into coverage toward the end of the game and that was only thing that worked. It only took 3 quarters for him to realize a 5-10 corner can’t man up a 6-4 freak. It is impossible! Can’t get away with that against a team that can run the ball though. Crazy game, good learning experience, offense was great!

I’d like to apologize to Joe Cox for doubting his abilities. His performance tonight was better than anything Stafford ever did. His touch was amazing and he was able to get the ball where it needed to be. Our defense is terrible. Boykin looked really bad on several plays. We once again kicked the ball out of bounds twice after scoring touchdowns. This is the most stubborn coaching staff in the country. They refuse to adapt and make changes when it is obvious. I don’t care what Fabris would try and tell me, but there is no explaining this phenomenon. I agree, WM has to go. It is pathetic.

Offense-Good Game (would be great but you have got to protect the darn ball) Glad to see Richt install King late to hold onto the ball.
Defense-It’s getting harder and harder to defend this kind of performance. Effort is there, but way tooo many blown coverages and Byrd once again standing flat flooted and letting his man run right by him.

Is anybody else out there fed up with this guy calling the games for the Dawgs on the radio? Tonight he called QB Joe Cox, “Green.” Last week, he called USC, “the University of Southern Cal.” What the FRICK??? What planet is this guy on? Where did he come from? He can’t be a Georgian. Probably not even a son of the South. There has to be somebody out there who’s better than this bland block of cheese. He’s boring to listen to, and brings no passion to the game.
