Two-minute drill: 4 games go on sale to general public

A limited number of tickets to four Georgia football games will go on sale to the general public beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, the athletic association announced today. Tickets for two road games and two home games will be available for purchase online.

The games available and ticket prices are: Oklahoma State Saturday in Stillwater ($100), Arkansas on Sept. 19 in Fayetteville ($45), Arizona State on Sept. 26 in Athens ($60) and Tennessee Tech on Nov. 7 in Athens ($45).

All Oklahoma State tickets ordered can be picked up at the Gate N-12 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater starting at 1 p.m. Central Time on the day of the game. When picking up Oklahoma State tickets at will-call, you’ll have to present a photo ID. All other single game tickets ordered will be mailed out next week.

UPDATE: A limited number of tickets to the South Carolina game on Sept. 12 in Athens will go on sale exclusively to Hartman Fund donors, also at 9 a.m. Tuesday. These tickets, priced at $55, will remain on sale until they are sold out, the athletic association says.

For more ticket information, contact the UGA ticket office at 1-877-542-1231.

Whadyagot, Loran?

Loran Smith did an Athens Banner-Herald column on Jon Fabris’ work as Georgia’s special teams coach that deserves some sort of positive spin award for managing to completely ignore the issue of the Dogs’ wretched kickoff game last year.

Jon Fabris (Georgiadogs.com)

Jon Fabris (Georgiadogs.com)

Smith wrote that “You can’t over prepare” is Fabris’ motto, “which is why he is an integral part of a glowing special teams distinction in the Richt era” that includes being the only punt-return team in the nation to finish in the Top 15 six times, the single-season record for blocked punts (five) in 2003, the single-season  record for punt return yards (746) in 2003 and last year’s school record for highest average punt-return yardage for a season (17.58).

All are legitimate bragging points, but the bulk of the discussion about special teams since last season has concerned eight of Georgia’s kickoffs going out of bounds (including two against Georgia Tech) and Fabris’ much criticized directional kicking scheme, which tended to give opponents great field position.

And there’s not a word about any of that in Smith’s glowing report on Fabris.

More Dogs TV

UGA and its media partner, ISP Sports, have announced “Bulldogs Gameday,” a new hourlong program hosted by Chuck Dowdle and Zach Klein that will air at 10 a.m. Saturdays on WSB-TV. Each show will preview that week’s Bulldogs football game.

Other Dogs programming set for this season includes “Dawg Report,” a 30-minute weekly look at all UGA’s varsity teams hosted by Matt Stewart and airing at 10 p.m. Mondays on CSS, beginning tonight; Mark Richt’s weekly press conference airing at noon Tuesdays (starting this week) on CSS; recaps of each Bulldogs game with Stewart doing play-by-play and Buck Belue providing analysis, airing at 11 a.m. Sundays on CSS; and “Inside Georgia Football With Mark Richt,” the coach’s weekly 30-minute show airing at 1 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays and 6:30 p.m. Mondays on SportSouth and on additional stations, including Sundays at midnight on WSB-TV in Atlanta. Yeah, that’s right GatorHater, ’cause we are known for our bandwagon fans. That is why it is so easy for all of us to get good tickets to games whenever we want. And not one hotdog or free pizza deal in the bunch.

GatorRaider, you are a fool…… These tickets are returned from visiting opponets, after they cannot sell their alloted amount bc their fans know it would be a wasted trip to come to Athens and watch their team get blown up.

Hey, good luck against Charleston southern in week 1!! I sincerely hope Tebow blows out his knee. Love, Me

Suggesting that Loran was remise by not bringing up what was “discussed’ about the KO’s over the summer, in what was obviously meant to be a positive column on the entire body of work for Coach Fabris is pretty cheesy.

Gator Raider….UGA holds back a limited number (1000-2000) of single game tickets every year and puts them on sale the week before the season opens. They’ll be gone by noon on Tuesday. Why don’t the Gators beef their schedule up and quit playing patsy’s to pad their record this year. Florida can sell out thier stadium and still have fewer fans in the stands than Georgia does each home game….you guys need to get a big boy stadium so you can cram more mullet heads and jeans wearing rednecks into the appropiately named “swamp”. If you like to swat insects all game and sit next to smelly people you’ll love taking in a game at the swamp!

Are you kidding me! Tech is advertizing on the AJC to sell tickets to their game against Clemson September 10th….come on Tech….are your fans so cheap that they won’t even buy tickets to home games aganist a rival team? I called the Tech ticket office to check on ticket availability and was told that there are 15,000 tickets left to sell to the game aganist Clemson. What pitiful fans Tech has. If this doesn’t prove they are a lower tier program nothing does…can’t even sell out a little cracker box stadium against a conference rival…can you say cheap!

Altamaha:

The column did not deal with Coach Fab’s entire body of work; just with special teams. And kickoffs are definitely a big part of that and have drawn quite a bit of criticism. I know Loran isn’t exactly a hard-hitting journalist, but to completely ignore that part of the story was a bit much even for a puff piece.

AltamahaDawg

Well obviously I wasnt talking about being the DE position coach, of cource it was about his (special teams work as a whole). But the piece was never meant to be a year by year, position by position breakdown. Maybe he saw you had covered last years KO issues 20 times this summer and he just went another direction. The directional kick is specific Xs and Os debate, and it doesnt take a hard-hitting journalist to realize that was not the scope of the column.

30 years and counting: that’s what you “elite” team and huge sold out stadium have given your team. And for an UGA fan to call a UF fan “redneck” is real funny. Shut up until you can win the big game. and then win the big game three out of four years. My God; Jimmy Carter was president the last time UGA won a national champ. Boy what losers!

This Fabris guy needs to shown the door along with Van Halanger and Clueless Willie. Last year he and Willie had an ongoing feud that was obvious on the sidelines which was kept quiet. Wasted timeouts and special team blunders last year were a complete disaster and a joke last year. Its time for CMR to can all of these clowns.

Fabris shouldn’t be coaching the kickoff coverage unit. I would give the job that he has done on the punt return unit a B-
But, I’m sure David Pollack, Charles Grant, Charles Johnson, Marcus Howard, Robert Geathers, and Quentin Moses will attest to what a good defensive ends coach he is. Last year, he just didn’t have any ends who could get to the quarterback.

“More often than not, it is a breakdown among special teams that gives coaches nightmares.

Last year, there were too many breakdowns to suit Fabris. Since he arrived in Athens (as a coach), Fab, as he is known among his colleagues, has worked overtime to give the Bulldogs an edge with his special-teams responsibility, which also includes the kickoff team.”

Completely ignored it.

Bill, this is one example of why it is obvious Loran has outlived his usefulness. His interviews pregame, his columns in the ABH, etc…all the ramblings of irrelevance.
Also, why is it okay for the athletic dept. to sell tickets above face value, (Az State and Tn Tech), but if the public does it, it’s scalping? The value of the ticket is, I believe, printed on the ticket face.

TSJ

The Dawgs don’t advertise for their tickets. They don’t have to since every game is sold out every year. These tickets are from the other schools allotments that they didn’t sell thus returning the unused ones for sell to the public. The away game tickets I am assuming are from their booster or corporate sales that did not sell out so they released them to Georgia as an extra bonus. In any case I hope to snatch up one as I know they will not last the morning.
