Who’s most dangerous player Dogs will face?

Georgia’s defense, particularly the more inexperienced members of its secondary, will face a stiff challenge in some of the more heralded offensive stars they’ll come up against this season.

Besides Tim Tebow, who will be the Dogs defense's biggest challenge?

View Results

Loading ... Loading ...
There’s Florida’s Tim Tebow, of course.

But first the Dogs must try to contain Oklahoma State’s high-scoring tandem of quarterback Zac Robinson and receiver Dez Bryant. Also early in the season, a lot of folks are picking the Arkansas game as a potential loss for the Dogs thanks to their quarterback transfer from Michigan, Ryan Mallett. Then there’s LSU’s powerful offense, led by rising QB Jordan Jefferson. And the Dogs are well aware of the big-play potential of Georgia Tech’s triple-option attack with Jonathan Dwyer.

We’ll say it’s a given that Tebow, who’s trying for his second Heisman, is the biggest threat the Dogs defense faces. But besides him, which opposing offensive player do you think will be the most dangerous that Willie Martinez’s unit must handle? Feel free to comment, vote in the poll or both.

As far as predictions go they only have a little validity when made the week prior. Any other predictions unless they are between two ends of a conference are crap. I have won much more than I have lost predicting college footbal games: but only the week before.

I want all the Cowpoke fans to keep talking about Dez Bryant. On Sat. Sept. 5th he’ll be the 5th best WR on the field behind A.J. Bryant, Marlon Brown, Michael Moore and Rantavius Wooten!

Here’s what’s going against Cowpokes:

1.) Too much hype, without enough track record to support it.
2.) Too much hype over Robinson and Bryant.
3.) T. Boone Pickens – putting too much pressure to succeed.
4.) New stadium – too many distractions around the facilities.
5.) Playing a well tested top tier SEC team who is in their head given what happened 2 years ago.
6.) Mike Gundy is in over his head and is starting to feel the weight of enormous expectations.
7.) CMR is off da hook playing in other teams stadiums. Four losses in 8 years! Wow!!!
8.) Okie’s Defense – or better yet, what defense?
9.) Resurgent UGA Defense. Make NO mistake, UGA’s defense will be much improved over last year and on Sept. 5th they’re going to prove it.
10.) Did I mention that Okie St. is over-hyped and overrated?

PS – I wear a turban and a propeller cap because I’m a Ga. Tech student.

The comparison to Boise is ridiculous. OSU plays in a BCS conference and recruits way better athletes than Boise. This year is no exception, as OSU has three potential first round picks (RB-Hunter, REC-Bryant & OL-Okung) along with a top five QB (Robinson) and very strong OL. Despite its weakness, the defense has 2-3 potential NFL players, including a talented shut down CB named Perish Cox. Also, their DE’s and LB’s are very solid. The middle of the OSU’s D-line will be its biggest weakness (due to size) despite returning experience.

Second, OSU annually plays OU, Texas, A&M and Tech which have the same type athletes as UGA. OSU will be expecting great athletes on UGA’s side of the ball but won’t be intimidated by speed, size or strength like Boise.

Last, Boise came to Athens as a seven point UNDERDOG while OSU is FAVORED at home by six points (See Vegas Odds). Last time I checked, Vegas is in the business of picking winners and has no allegiance to schools.

My advice to all you UGA homers comparing Boise to OSU, hold on to your money and stay away from Vegas.

UGAG fans as usual. Tell me, is this gonna be the year again for the 29th straight year? Dawg Max, GT not that good? They return 18 starters, including the entire offense, and your bunch of second stringers is gonna beat them by 20? Beha, ha ha ha ha. I think I just pissed myself like Willie did when he found out he had to get his defense ready for JD, Roddy and the boys again this year.

god and greyhound: Still not funny. But just out of morbid curiosity what would you say the best conference is?

The ACC? Duke, UVA, NC State? Anyone can trot out the bottom dwellers of a conference to refute a claim. But I ask you this…how did the top of your conference do? I think the championship game pitted a 2 loss team against a 3 loss team. Sounds like a couple of veritable powehouses batteling it out for a birth in the Orange Bowl agains another 2 loss team.

You sir, take the prize for the most ridiculous statements on here.

“I want all the Cowpoke fans to keep talking about Dez Bryant. On Sat. Sept. 5th he’ll be the 5th best WR on the field behind A.J. Bryant, Marlon Brown, Michael Moore and Rantavius Wooten!” Green is an excellent WR, but all the others are completely unproven, especially FR Brown (and I don’t give a rip how many stars he had as a recruit, Bryant was a 5* AND has backed it up).

Here’s what’s going against Cowpokes:

1.) Too much hype, without enough track record to support it.-Lots of hype, track record has to start somewhere, might as well be here.
2.) Too much hype over Robinson and Bryant. – Robinson was the 4th ranked passer in the country last year, Bryant top-ranked WR and I don’t want to hear about Big 12 defenses. They played 4 teams that were in the Top 5 when we played them.
3.) T. Boone Pickens – putting too much pressure to succeed. – BS. Gundy is his hand-picked coach.
4.) New stadium – too many distractions around the facilities. Not that big a deal. The outdoor portion of the stadium and 95% of the amenities were already in place all last season. Only thing new in the stadium itself is that the suites are complete and new video boards this year.
5.) Playing a well tested top tier SEC team who is in their head given what happened 2 years ago. Well-tested? Failed most of those tests miserably last year, didn’t they? In their head? There are only maybe 4-5 guys that will start for OSU that even made it into the game two years ago.
6.) Mike Gundy is in over his head and is starting to feel the weight of enormous expectations. – What pressure? He just signed a new 7-year, $15M contract.
7.) CMR is off da hook playing in other teams stadiums. Four losses in 8 years! Wow!!! – Richt’s road record IS impressive, only intelligible statement you made.
8.) Okie’s Defense – or better yet, what defense? – I especially love Nos. 8 & 9. You assume that OSU’s defense will be the SAME as last year, yet UGA’s will be “resurgent”. Laughable.
9.) Resurgent UGA Defense. Make NO mistake, UGA’s defense will be much improved over last year and on Sept. 5th they’re going to prove it. – LSU: 497 yards, GT: 428 yards. What defense?
10.) Did I mention that Okie St. is over-hyped and overrated? – See above.

PS – I wear a turban and a propeller cap because I’m a Ga. Tech student.

Well I’ll answer these questions

1) When was the last time Tech won their conference? UGA? Tech has won 2 conference titles in the last 19 years. UGA has won 2 in the last 26 years. In Tech’s last 26 years in the SEC, it won 5 titles.

2) When was the last time Tech went to a BCS bowl? UGA? Congrats, you’ve been to three, although only one was a win over a decent opponent. When was the last time UGA won a national championship?

3) When was the last time Tech won a major bowl game? (By major I mean the Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Orange or pre BCS Cotton, to save u some time 1990 does not count since it was the Citrus)

Well aside from the fact you arbitrarily include the pre BCS cotton bowl in there, despite that the Cotton bowl’s prestige was all but gone by the mid 80s, uga has been to three major bowls in the last 25 years, while tech has been to none. Both programs are relatively mediocre in that regard.

4) What’s the series record?

Seeing as neither school agrees on the answer to this question, I definitely don’t know the answer either.

5) How many times has CMR beaten Tech in a row before last year? One, if you exclude Chan Gailey coached teams.

6) How many at large BCS bids has each conference received?

I’m glad you can bask in the success of two of the teams that beat the crud out of you last year.

Reality Check, as a bama fan, feel free to proclaim your team ‘relevant’ and ‘elite’. 7 to 8, 10 win seasons without one just makes them the losers closer to the top! THAT’S what I’m saying. ANY team that proclaims to be in the ‘elite’ category MUST have national championships to show for it…THAT’S what every team aspires to. Without them, you’re not elite….close doesn’t get it if you’re going to be considered elite. This isn’t horse shoes…. superDawg, you STILL don’t respond with ‘TRUTH’…. perhaps, YOU can’t handle the truth!

macrotech – I agree with your assesment to a point but UGA is pretty relevant and I would consider them elite in this decade. Tech is on the right track and I wouldnt want to play them as an ooc opponent but to act like UGA is a second tier opponent is just plain ignorant. No matter how stupid some of their fans might seem. There are very few teams that have won more games with that tough of a schedule, year in and year out, than UGA over the last 8 years.

Reality Check, the relevant has been brought over from a different discussion regarding Tech being relevant or not. The word being tossed around on this blog is elite…. uga has been a VERY relevant team these past ten years and I do not discount their schedule. I have said, many times, that they are a team to be reckoned with….but, I don’t think a team achieves ‘elite’ status without national championships. Doesn’t matter how hard you run the race…if you don’t cross the finish line….you don’t win. uga has developed a strong team, but they aren’t winning any of the big races. For the record, I don’t consider the dawgs a second tier program….never said it. They’re a good team….just not elite.

Reality Check, I responded to your latest post, but it has disappeared…in short- the word ‘relevant’ has carried over from another blog and I don’t question uga’s relevance this past decade. They’ve done well with their team considering their schedule. No way, do I belittle this. However, without winning the National Championship (EVERY team should begin the season shooting for this), uga cannot be considered ‘Elite’. I’m a Tech fan first, college football fan second; as a Tech fan, I’ll defend our legacy in this sport…. we’ve had better runs….but, as you’ve pointed out, we’re on the right path to returning to a place of prominance. As a college football fan, I appreciate the dawgs surge. Unlike many fellow Tech fans, I’m respecting CMR! They’re not ‘elite’.

macro national championships are hard to come by, even more so if your in the southeastern conf. when you say elite I would put UGA in that bunch because the dawgs are the winningest team this decade. Also look up top ten college programs in the country and see who is listed, maybe that will change your mind.I appreciate the fact that you respect UGA in fact I don’t hate tech except in nov.with that said the only reason I come on these blogs is to have fun.and boy some times its real fun to get someone crawling out of their skin over something so meaningless.I am a uga grad and proud of it.If you went to tech thats great.this boss stuff is for the birds and is so far from the truth that imo makes tekies look stupid.

Somebody said Cowboy hype. How can any UGA fan say hype with out choking up. UGA is the most hyped (for no reason) team in the NCAA. Most good coaches would have won several Nat Champs with the talent UGA has over the last 10 years. UGA never came close! Hype is what UGA was last year at #1. UGA last Nat Champ was 30 years ago! Jimmy Carter was president. Cable TV was still new, the boys at UGA were still wearing the mullet hairdo (Wait they still do, never mind). THIRTY YEARS!!!

That’s UGA’s problem: They can’t win the big games and thus no National Championships in 29 years and counting. I know this troubles you as it always gets a response out the UGA group. Just forget it and realize that UGA is no UF or LSU or Alabama or at least in the 29 years. I enjoy watching UGA play and I enjoy GT and UF and I want each team to win accept when they play UGA. It’s football and is suppose to be fun!

Hey Dawgs, what you need to realize is that the Cowboys are a COMPLETELY different club than the one that played in Athens two years ago. Robinson was not yet the starter at QB, only Okung played on the offensive line, and Dez was starting his first game as a true freshman. The entire team is much better at every position and our depth is substantially improved. This is all evidenced by having Vegas setting the line at -6. How many games in the SEC are the Dawgs placed at +6?? Yes we have question marks on the defensive side along with a new coordinator. But we also have many more athletes on that side of the ball as well. One thing is certain for those of you who travel to Stillwater for the game: win or lose you will enjoy a far more pleasant experience than we did in Athens based on the numerous classless fans who support your team.

Osu is overated. Dez Bryant will be silenced when the SEC comes to Stillwater. Flush Robinson out of the pocket and he is finished.
OSUs Kendell Hunter is the second biggest threat for UGA. If we can stop him which I think our DL wont give him a lot of space, then its over for OSU. Dwyer will be hunted like a dog and will post only average numbers. Tebow will not have a big day on the ground but will manage a very good outing.
