Two-minute drill: Cowboys QB has hurt leg

The Oklahoman reports Oklahoma State quarterback Zac Robinson has a slight leg injury and didn’t fully take part in the Cowboys’ first practice because of it. OSU coach Mike Gundy told the paper Robinson has a slight pull in his lower leg and has suffered this sort of injury before. It doesn’t appear serious.

Georgia the Underdawgs

Georgia Sports Blog notes that DannySheridan.com has Georgia as a 6-point underdog in the opener with Okie State. If, for some reason, Robinson were to still be having leg problems later in the month, that could change.

Ready to go bowling?

It might be “insanely early,” but that hasn’t stopped ESPN.com’s Chris Low from coming up with a projected 2009 bowl lineup for SEC teams.

Best case scenario for the Dogs, he says, is “they ride one of the best offensive lines in the league to another 10-win season and a berth in the Capital One Bowl.”

Worst case: “The tackling doesn’t improve on defense. The running game suffers without Knowshon Moreno, and a killer schedule gets the best of the Bulldogs, sending them to the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl.”

Low doesn’t see that happening, though. He projects the Dogs in the Outback Bowl.

Meanwhile, the Birmingham News reports the SEC is in talks with bowls about its future commitments. The Gator Bowl has expressed interest in joining the SEC if it can maintain its New Year’s Day time slot — the same the Capital One Bowl currently holds. The Gator wants a Top 5 SEC pick, meaning it would need to have a large enough payout to jump the Capital One, Outback, Cotton or Chick-fil-A, the News says.

The Cotton Bowl is “fairly satisfied” with its current spot in the SEC hierarchy but won’t rule out jumping ahead of the Capital One. The Capital One would like to continue matching SEC and Big 10 teams, but wouldn’t want to move down in the pecking order. It’ll all come down to who offers the most bucks.

Practice news

The Bulldogs Blog notes that in Monday’s practices, the offense had just one penalty and the defense had none, which is definitely what we want to hear. But in one-minute drills in which the offense tried to move the ball into field goal range, the first team offense turned the ball over on an interception and the second team missed the kick. Not what we want to hear.

G&G. Unlike some schools in the area, the Dawgs have so much talent, they just reload every year. At UGA, there really is no such thing as a true rebuilding year. Look at the win – loss record over the last 10 years. Even with the tough out of conference schedule including Okie State and ASU combined with the always brutal SEC, I fully expect the dawgs to go about their business winning 9 – 11 games this year and a season ending top 10 finish. Some might call it “delusional”, but I’d say it’s more just relying on a proven track record. This is the kind of nationally recognized football program that everyone wants! Go Dawgs.

“Brutal” SEC my behind. Yeah, playing in the cupcake SEC East every year, most teams in the ACC could win at least 8 games. South Carolina? Kentucky? Vanderbilt? Tennessee? LOL. Heck if Duke got a good draw from the West, say MSU, Auburn, and Ark, they could probably contend for the championship game! Vandy was in contention last year until they lost a stinker to MSU.

SEC is the most supremely overrated conference in football. Basically Florida, Bama, and everybody else. The ACC was 6-4 vs this sorry conference last year, on its way to compiling the country’s best record vs. BCS schools.

Nothing but a bunch of hot air in the SEC. This year watch Va. Tech completely expose Bama as a pretender that took advantage of a cupcake SEC schedule to go undefeated.

just a note to m (or god and greyhound) you keep running down the SEC yet the ONE decent SEC team your GT Insects play on a consistent basis beats you like a rented mule on a consistent basis. (7 of 8 ring a bell ?) GT can’t compete in their own conference, much less take a major step up and compete in the SEC. When and only when you can claim an ACC Championship then you can at least act like GT has actually accomplished something of value. And no, beating the least accomplished (in CMR’s tenure), severely wounded Ga team by 3 points is not a ring-worthy accomplishment (although CPJ would argue the point) So enjoy your summer, because the fall is going to hurt
