The Athens Banner-Herald reports UGA has held preliminary discussions with Army about a home-and-home football series, but it hasn’t gone very far because Army’s trying to schedule 10 years out and Georgia can’t do that yet without the conference schedules.
Army, which dropped out of Conference USA five years ago to play as an independent, is trying to schedule games against major programs around the country. They recently signed a deal for a home-and-home with Oklahoma to begin in 2018. Army athletics director Kevin Anderson told The Middletown (N.Y.) Times-Herald-Record, “It would be good for us to have a home-and-home with Georgia. There are several Army bases down there and we have said we want to go play where our troops are.”
I hope it happens, whether the road part involves the Dogs traveling to West Point or perhaps meeting the Black Knights in one of the games they’re starting to schedule at the new Yankee Stadium in New York City.
Plus Army, a national football power a few decades back, still has a certain emotional hold on much of the nation thanks to the number of folks who’ve served in the ranks. I know that as a kid I always rooted for the Knights in the annual nationally televised game with Navy just because my Dad served in the Army. And I don’t believe Georgia and Army have ever met in football.
Even if it happens, it’s a long time away. But what do you think? Wouldn’t the Dogs at Yankee Stadium be cool? Feel free to comment, vote in the poll or do both.

Personally, I think it’d be cool to have a home and home with Army. Like you alluded to Bill, you wouldn’t want that with some other programs of comparable talent, i.e. New Mexico State or Baylor, but a chance to play a team with the history and panache of West Point would be fun indeed.

ARMY pulled out of a home game against Tech last year because they were afraid of the physical beating they were going to receive. A bush league outfit like the pups though is right up their alley.

I do not like the Yankees at all, nor their mafia funded $1 Billion dollar stadium up in trashy Zoo York. So yes, Play Army up there, and get said exposure, and when we beat the crap out of Army, drop a gentleman’s sized duece on the 50 yard line/Center field.

GeoffDawg – I just call em like I see em. Army was shaky in the knees thinking about having to play Tech again so they dropped the game at the last second. Now they’re weaseling back into the state to pick a fight with the lesser team in Georgia. It all makes sense if you look at the FACTS.

What a pile of crap. Army backed out of the game with TECH last year because too may players were getting hurt and affecting their Army Futures. Now, they want to start getting more hard teams? Dad and I really want to go to New York last year and Army pulled out. What a F..ing Joke. I guess ARMY was just afraid to face Paul Johnson again.

Bill, let me give you one suggestion that I hope you follow up on… “Saint Simons” is a tech nerd using the RSS feed of your blog to generate automatic posts (45-42 haha, etc.) using a type of spam bot script. This is the explanation for why he manages to post minutes after every blog is posted. Your guys at the ajc might try to rectify this hijacking of the sports blogs by blocking his IP address or changing the format of the blog posts or RSS feeds.

For all the talk on this blog about how UGA was intent on improving its OOC schedule, and now this? Army? Come on.. The focus on improving must be all talk and no walk. Again, I don’t think anybody projected Oklahoma State to be any good when you booked them years ago.. I don’t think Damon Evans wants a good OOC schedule. Granted, the SEC is stacked but please spare us the crap about wanting to improve the OOC schedule.

Okay, Tech, we get it. You went 9-4 last year. You beat Georgia by 3 whole points. Army didn’t back out of a home and home because of fear of losing, they backed out because it wouldn’t be enough media exposure. Let’s face it, who would most people in the nation rather see, Army vs. Tech, or Army vs. Georgia?
By the way, the Dawgs went 10-3 last season. And yeah, we may have lost to you by three, but we beat LSU by 14, you lost to LSU by 35.
Have a nice season, you yellow flying pests.

I’m not in favor of playing Army, let alone twice. There are plenty of other schools that will schedule them, but UGA doesn’t need the “exposure” and we really have nothing to gain by playing them. Teams like Notre Dame look so weak when they play all three service academies on a regular basis.
I’d rather see us schedule Syracuse, if we want to play a team from the New York area or Rutgers.
I like the fact that we are playing solid teams from major conferences, like Colorado, ASU, and OK State. I’d rather see that kind of thing continue. Among those I think UGA would most benefit from are;
Texas A&M, UCLA, Purdue, Michigan State,

They played Ga.Tech two years ago and then pulled out of the next game scheduled, took a fine for violating the contract, because they were trying to lighten their schedule. I understand now.

Try filling your high school stadium and staying off the UGA boards. We have more than ONE game to worry about in the SEC! Try actually winning a ACC (All Coast Clear) title! Yall are way to obsessed with GEORGIA that you can’t even SUPPORT your own team. Buying Gold Rings for winning ONE game and now yall can’t afford to fly to off games. How F%cking Pathetic.

As an Army grad and Bulldawg by birth, I would love to see it. Please do not play it in Yankee stadium, though. Michie Stadium in the fall is one of the great theaters in all of college football. Somehow I don’t think the same would be said of the Bronx. Football-wise, it would be a joke, though. I am pulling hard for the new regime at Army, but they are REALLY bad right now.

JUST SAY NO TO ARMY…WE HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN FROM PLAYING THIS GAME.
