Bulldog Bites: Coaching furloughs at UGA?

Georgia Athletic Association staff members are expected to be subject to state-mandated furlough days that are to be taken by the end of the calendar year, the Athens Banner-Herald reports. Athletics director Damon Evans says that could include contract employees like coaches, but he’s still waiting for a ruling on that. The athletic association is a private, nonprofit corporation, but is subject to the furloughs because those who work there are state employees, Evans said, adding that they haven’t yet figured out how unpaid days off would be implemented for coaches during the football season. That’s a tough break in terms of timing, with football season essentially taking up the remainder of the year, but if Mark Richt and his staff must take the three furlough days mandated by Gov. Sonny Perdue, it seems like the best solution would be to do a few during the off week in October and the rest in December. …

As Tim Tucker has reported, UGA has announced some more cutoff scores for the cumulative lifetime contributions to the Hartman Fund necessary to buy tickets for individual games this season. They range from a high of $32,500 required to buy LSU tickets to $4,000 to buy Oklahoma State tickets. Cutoffs haven’t been calculated yet for Vandy, Tech and Florida. The cutoff for the 5,000 Oklahoma State tickets was notably lower than last year’s cutoff for tickets to the Arizona State game, which was $27,007. Stillwater may indeed be a great little town, as Cowboys fans have been insisting in the blog comments, but it obviously is not as attractive a trip for UGA fans as Tempe was. …

The Banner-Herald reports a few more details on plans for the first hour of the extended four-hour pregame show on UGA football radio broadcasts this season. Play-by-play man Scott Howard says “the format for that will be a little bit different from the bulk of the pregame show. It will be more of a studio-type presentation. There may be some live interviews, some prerecorded interviews, some phone calls, kind of a mishmash of things. … There will be at least two hosts for that hour with maybe some crossover from the rest of the broadcast crew, including myself.” Sounds like that first hour might be the part of the show based at the new Hotel Indigo in downtown Athens, as was reported earlier.

BugKiller, that 10:55 am post was hilarious. Hilarious in that you mentioned Willie’s furlough days, not funny in regards to him actually taking them and the results.

There state employees by default because they work for a private company that’s directly associated with a state entity, in reality there privately employed. If no state money goes to pay any AD employees salaries then how is making them take furloughs going to help the state’s budget woes?!?

Hey zoo, I will be in the neighborhood starting Sunday. I have a hour and a half layover in Detroit, do you know Stafford cell number? I thought Baylie and I could have lunch with him.

Bill – I’d prefer no coaches take furlogh during the ‘off week’ in October we have before WLOCP. First week in November looks like a better option if coaches really have to abide by this. Hopefully the Halloween game will be for the East – take advantage of that extra week.

I can’t wait till Halloween in Jacksonville where the Florida Gator fans, proudly in their cut off jean shorts, can have a few beers with the Ugay Curdawg fans, grotesquely in their undersize red or aqua and white striped Richard Simmons running shorts.

Cuz, I don’t have Stafford’s number but I could probably dig up Duante’s for you. The airport is a lot nicer place now that they have the newer terminals.

Since the liberal Democrats took over Congress and the liberal National media brainwashed the weakminded into electing Obuma, working Americans and the massive number of unemployed (including me)have very little hope and nothing but change (in our pockets)!

As reported by someone else, furlough doesn’t mean you will not show up for work, just no pay for the designated day of the furlough. Have family members who are teachers and they all are going to show up for work, just no pay! Their rationale is that it is not fair to students not to show up. And, in most of their cases the furloughs will be on days of things such as “pre-planning” or “teacher workshops” when no students are present.I feel sure that the UGA coaches will show up on those days, if they even do come under the mandates!

The govenor, senators, and legislators should be taking furloughs, as well. We are all riding this out together. Everybody’s hurting. Some more than others. But, everybody needs to take their share of it.

Rabun Dawg, School teachers will all have their furlough days on days that the students are not in school. The students are required to be there 180 days and teachers are paid for working 190 days.

What effect would furloughing the coaches have on the state budget? I can’t see where it will have any. They’re not paid with tax dollars.

I know that St Simons is only about 25 or so years old and a non tech graduate or even a legit fan. Here is why:

When I mention names of Eddie Lee Ivory and his rape charges in Wisc. and the names of Jim Lavin, Mike Mooney and Kevin Salibury that beat up that itty, bitty gal and her boyfriend in the old pizza joint, near where the Tech motel used to be on N Avenue, he does not respond.

Also, the giggles that we UGA folks still get ( like chills up our legs) when we think about big bad QB Reggie ( PE Major ) Ball throwing the ball out of bounds on 4th down, he ought ot have a come back. I mean, that 45-42 thing is it. He has only that?? to chat about.

We can talk about the above illustrious names and:
The frosh recruit of two year back and his APD rape charges or
Reuben Houson and HIS drug issues or the pride of The Flats …

Qb Joey Hamilton and HIS DRUG ISSUES.

This proves that Simple Simon is only a thug kid or a deadbeat with a GED. He only has the depth to throw that out ………we still can giggle however. “Surely coach, we get 5 downs here in historical Grant field” said Reggie.

We have some “Tech” fans that are complete morons. I was happy that my boys pulled out a win, but we have been getting our rear ends handed to us since Mr. Richt showed up so I don’t have a whole lot of room to hoop and holler. I will enjoy the 2008 win and look forward to the next installment of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.

cuz…I don’t know the story behind the surgery, but my prayers will go out for a successful and safe surgery for Bailey.

Thanks Sting-em. She has had around fifteen to eighteen surgeries, I admit, I have lost count. She has KTS. Google kt foundation and you will get an understanding of what she has. On a scale of one to ten, she has a nine.

Believe it or not, this UGA grad pulls for Tech when we are not playing them. Two of my better friends are Tech fans. One is a graduate of Tech, the other a guy who makes a living as an engineer. The grad and I have known each other since we were kids. He went to Tech the year before I went to UGA. We look forward to our rendevous in November because most times, it is a bare knuckes brawl. College football is the most fun sport on the planet and I am tired of the withdrawals. Start now dang it.

Let? Is that why there was a prayer meeting on the sideline and Richt almost cried when he realized he wouldn’t get the ball back at the end of the game? Right. And since you can’t count, it was 7.

Hey, Leave Obama alone. Bush got us in this mess… put the true blame where it should be. If y’all didn’t have your heads in the Bushes, you would have seen it coming. I can bet you this, Bush and Cheney made lots of $$$$ during their eight years!

Now PUNT that!

Go Dawgs! Funny how everybody talks about the only thing that matters is what happens the last time, if that was true, then why do the keep record of it. Ask any Florida fan, they will repeat to you that Florida has won the last 16 of 19 games against us. But look at it this way we are 3 and 2 with the mighty gators the last five years…so it all matters!

Well, here I am on my first week of my new job at UGA. I have my instructions from The Power, aka, the Board of Regents and they want a schedule by the end of the 3rd quarter. Lets see, the dawgs will have played 4 games by the end of the 3rd quarter (Sept 30). Hmmmmmmm. So many questions, so few answers. Coaching furloughs, hmmmmmm. Who? when? how long? Being a state employee, my mind is open to suggestions. Post them here, and I will take them under consideration. Thank you in advance.
