101 Reasons to Be a UGA Fan, Part 2

University of Georgia

University of Georgia

It’s almost that time when we’ll be “goin’ back to Athens town,” and to help get you into the spirit of the season we continue our rundown of reasons to be a fan of the Bulldogs. Here, in no particular order, are 20 more. …

21. You can’t spell “Sugar” without “UGA.”

22. The electricity in the air when you step on the Sanford Drive bridge before a game.

23. Appleby-to-Washington.

24. Dan Magill and the loudest tennis crowds in America.

25. Sinkwich and Trippi in the same backfield.

26. “Glory, Glory Dixieland.”

27. Red and black, the best color combination in sports.

28. Verron Haynes in the checkerboard end zone.

29. Teaching a child to say “Go Dogs!” (Especially if he belongs to your Gator neighbor!)

30. Vince Dooley’s sideline body English.

31. Kevin Butler kicking it “a hundred thousand miles” against Clemson.

32. The Gym Dogs’ 10 national championships.

33. Foley Field’s six College World Series banners (twice as many as the school in Atlanta).

34. A jersey number retired for good reason.

35. “Keep your seats everyone, the Redcoats are coming!”

36. Dominique Wilkins.

37. Kudzu Hill.

38. Jake “the Snake” Scott.

39. Uga V lunging at Auburn’s Robert Baker.

40. A crisp fall day in Athens — as close to heaven on earth as you can get.

Your obsession with me is becoming alarming. Chill out, dude, this is all in fun. Try to show an ounce of creativity and post using a unique name. I got it, how about “calculus”? tech fans LOVE to talk about that. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!

By the way, please include the tech “certificates” in your thesis about majors and schools, okay? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

The “imposter” thing goes to show just lame some tech fans can be. No originality whatsoever. I still think “calculus” would be a good one for a yellow jacket.

Most of our players major in Management, Grinch. Know what the Management degree is at Tech? I’ll help….

(1) Take most of the business degrees in the Terry School at UGA. (not a Rec/Leisure Studies or Housing or Consumer Economics or any of the other “jock” majors….)

(2) Add an additional lab science.

(3) Add a calculus requirement.

(4) Add a more-limited list of free electives.

Congrats! You can now play at GT!

Like the name. You take direction real easy, don’t you? Wish most tech fans would do the same. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Hate to burst your bubble, but I took (and made As) calculus in both high school and at UGA. Of course, I’m sure tech has a much tougher “strain” of calculus you teach, right? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Does the engineering majoring student-athletes at tech actually do their own homework and take their tests, or do the tutors “fill in” when needed? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

So let me get this straight, tech’s management program is so tough that Reggie Ball kept his eligibility for 4 years? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That’s a good one, DR. Please tell me more. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

To tech fans, if you are so bent out of shape about the diverse curriculum offered at the state’s flagship university, then please write your state congressmen. Until then, please come up with a new argument. Face it, ALL universities (and institutes of technology) make exceptions for student-athletes.

The S-A’s majoring in the engineering disciplines do very well. One drawback of the APR requirement, however, is that it goes by percentage of hours to degree completion. All of the engineering degrees (as well as other technical/applied science degrees) at Tech have 130-hr curriculum tracks. Management, however, only has a 120-hr track (as do the BA programs at UGA).

This has made the Mgt (and other) programs at tech even more attractive to student-athletes than before. An engineering student taking the exact same level of courseloads (by hour) as a Management major could theoretically “fall behind” (as far as the APR calculations are concerned) while the MGT major remains on track, as the ENG student will need 10 more hours to graduate.

University of Georgia record over Georgia Institute of Technology

59-39-5 .720 all-time since 1893

32-12 .727 overall since 1964 (the year Tech ran away from the SEC with their tiny stingers tucked between their legs)

12 wins in the last 44 years.

Tech would have to go 20-10 (a .667 clip compared to the previous one hundred sixteen years at .280) in order to EVEN this series within thirty years (2039 (Look at the bright side, Star Track [sic] might even be true by then)).

UGA does not win NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP….. disappointing season

GT barely beats a struggling rival, gets demolished in Chicken Bowl…. Best Season Ever!!!!

Nice paralleled expectations there

………………….You got that wrong LSU, UF and AL are disappointed if they don’t win a NC. UGA is disappointed if they don’t at least come in second in the east behind UF. UGA hasn’t won in 30 years and probably wont for another 30. That’s a bunch of disappointing seasons. YEAH!!!! Nice Parallel…. Techs last NC 1990 UGAs 1980! You’re a freaking genius and you think way too highly of your program. It might be able to win 88 in 8 but it doesn’t deserve to have the words NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP even mentioned close to their name.

Huh?

I recently forced a Techie to admit that the whole calculus thing is nothing but a bold faced LIE. Georgia Tech athletes are not required to take calculus. Techies simply live in a dreamworld where whatever they say is true simply because they said it. They are LIARS. Nothing more. Nothing less. What else could explain this?

Maddog, to be honest not many at Tech seem to have much interest in briadening the curriculum offerings. Even the programs added via the addition of the Ivan Allen College some years back (and upon which “The Grinch” seems pathologically fixated) are all Bachelor of Science degrees…..there are no BA’s/BBA’s/etc offered at GT.

Comin’ Down,

59-39-5 is .607, not .720.

You got the .727 correct.

The record over the next 30 to create an even series would be 25-5, not 20-10.

Math degree from UGA? :-)

DR, you missed my point. I’m not saying GT should broaden their curriculum. It’s a fine institution, as is UGA. My comment was directed to the many GT fans who whine about the diverse curriculum at UGA. If it bothers them so much, then why not contact your state congressmen and complain about the UGA majors many GT fans seem to disdain. That’s all I was trying to say.

DR

July 31st, 2009

Maddog, why would anyone complain about the curriculum at UGA? It’s not dissimilar from most large state universities. Just because some of the majors are minimally-taxing doesn’t make them worthless.

Hahahahaha. I see it’s another very slow day for the GT program judging by the number of Tech backers on a Dawg blog. Apparently there is just NOTHING going on with that program!!! You’d think that after a successful year against that demanding ACC schedule along with huge program wins against Jacksonville St. and Georgia, not to mention the thumping of powerhouse Gardner Webb, that there would be some interest by the fans. I guess not. Kind of sad for their kids. Oh well. Welcome to the Bulldog Nation.
