Bulldog Bites: UGA slight favorite over guess who
While we’re passing along betting news out of Las Vegas, Senator Blutarsky points out a Las Vegas Sun article detailing the early Las Vegas Hilton betting lines on some big games this season.
As you’d expect, Florida is a 13.5 point favorite over the Dogs, but Georgia is a favorite over South Carolina (11.5 points), Arkansas (3.5 points), LSU (3.5) and Tennessee (3).
Oh, and the Dogs also are a 1-point favorite over Georgia Tech.
Guess the oddsmakers aren’t as impressed with Paul Johnson’s triple-option juggernaut as they are with Mark Richt’s road record. …
So it’s the postgame interviews that will be trimmed from Loran Smith’s to-do list on the UGA radio broadcasts. WSB-TV sports anchor Chuck Dowdle, who already cohosted Mark Richt’s weekly TV show, has told our Tim Tucker that he’s agreed to take on the locker-room interviews this season.
What sort of difference will that make? Well, the questions no doubt will be a bit more relevant — less about someone’s hometown or food preferences and more about what happened on the field. But based on Dowdle’s work on the TV show, Richt and company still will be getting softball inquiries designed to ruffle no feathers at Butts-Mehre.

GTDhoo, if you were so interested in the facts you wouldn’t go around claiming that your offense put 45 on us last year, because it didn’t. You also wouldn’t go talking trash about defense considering that yours gave up 80 points in its final two games of the season. Tech fans are never interested in all the facts, just the ones that make their team look good. Heck, half the time you just make crap up. You would think college football was a 9 game season the way the Techies talk about their 2008 season. You only want to talk about the W’s and don’t have the balls to talk about any of the L’s. Maybe the Vegas oddmakers aren’t as impressed with a 9-4 season as you perhaps?

I’m quite sure vegas had uga as more than a 7 point favorite LAST August when the prevailing thought was that uga was the best in the nation and Tech would finish 3-9. That is the question. I’m sure the 7 point figure was the spread the week of the game in November.

Tech fans crack me up. They FINALLY luck out and beat Georgia for the first time in a decade and they want to talk smack. Face it, you beat Georgia on their worst day and your best. GA Tech is a very dangerous team to bet on (or against) every week. Their offense gives them a shot to win every week because opposing defenses have little or no experience against it. But Tech’s high-risk/high-reward offense can also produce lots of turnovers. I expect them to beat a couple really good teams and to lose to a couple lousy ones.

Dawgs go 10 – 3 and it’s perceived a disaster while Tech goes 9 – 4 including a year end bushwacking against LSU and you’d think they’d won the NC based on their fan comments.
I’ve never been around a group of fans that seem to suffer with an inferiority complex to the degree of the Tech fans. They so want the respect of the media, but unfortunately for the kids over there, that program is just not at a level sufficient to warrent much interest either statewide or nationally. I do feel sorry for the players who spend a lot of time preparing for the game and then they get the low fan turnout. Perhaps the GT fan should spend LESS time discussing UGA and MORE time talking about their on program.
