101 Reasons to Be a UGA Fan

Does anything with that elongated “G” catch your eye? Does the sound of the Redcoat band quicken your pulse? Do the words “hunker down” bring a smile to your face? Do you have numerous articles of clothing that are red, black or red and black?

Congratulations, you’re one of us! And if you are, you know that there are many reasons for your devotion to all things Dawg. Starting today, just for fun, we’ll run down 101 of them — not in any particular order. They’re all part of who we are. Here are the first 20 …

1. “It’s Saturday in Athens!”

2. Uga VII and all his predecessors. The most recognizable — and, as Sports Illustrated said, the best — college mascot in America.

3. “The ball ain’t heavy.”

4. Erk’s bleeding forehead.

5. The Arch.

6. “There goes Herschel.”

7. The most beautiful stadium in college football.

8. The “G” helmet design — even better than Green Bay’s original and the best-looking in all of football.

9. Hines Ward.

10. Silver britches.

11. It’s still “10 to 9″ in Dallas.

12. Ringing the Chapel bell after a victory.

13. David Greene and “70-X-Takeoff.”

14. “Unbeaten, untied and unbelievable!”

15. North Campus in the spring. Or fall. Or any time, really.

16. How many other teams have a Beatles song named after them (”Hey Bulldog”)?

17. “Run, Lindsay!”

18. We don’t wear orange! Or blue, green, purple or yellow (ugh)!

19. A drive down Milledge Avenue during Pledge Week.

20. “Between the Hedges.”

+1

Neither is specific to football, but definitely two things that make attending school at the University of Georgia a unique experience.

As a Terry College guy, I obviously spent a lot of time on North Campus, and it was always very impressive….the green spaces, the architecture….the tank tops, etc.

GA Tech plays on Thursday nights and they are featured on EPSN 7 (if Boise State is not playing which will draw more viewers).

If you fill up at BP, you can get 2 season tickets at Tech. Hey, I hear that GT is aiming for 8 wins. St. Simons loves men!

#1 of all time for me is the TEAM celebration on the field at the GA/FL game in ‘07. That was freakin classic!! I’m glad I got to experience that one! And to see the gaytors try and rally back after that was laughable…

Huh?

Keep ‘em coming Bill. At this rate you’ll have the Techies lying in the fetal position in a pool of their own vomit by Thursday. They hate this stuff. It absolutely destroys their souls. You see, its not the fact that we’ve beaten them like a damn drum 75% of the time we’ve played them in the past 4 decades or so. Although I’m sure that causes them some pain, we all know Techies really don’t care that much about wins and losses. As long as they’ve got their myth of academic superiority as a pathetic crutch, their fine with an occasional 9 win season here and there. No, what really eats at their soul is that we simply have more fun than they do. That’s all it comes down to. Georgia football is a party and they were invited. Boo freaking hoo. Cry me a river babies. True story.

Thanks, saint simons, and I hope you’ll keep reminding us…Believe me, we want to remember, too, and you’ll see why on Nov 28th.
After so many years of dominating Tech, maybe we had forgotten the pain of losing to you. Keep reminding us, so we’ll never forget again.

Our perfectly positioned stadium – in the middle of campus. Plenty of greenspace for tailgating whether you choose to do so on the North side or South side. I’m partial to North Campus since it provides easy access to downtown.
