Two-minute drill: What a decade

Rivals.com from Yahoo Sports has taken a look at the decade so far by the numbers. In the ranking for best record of the decade, Georgia comes in No. 6 with a 90-26 record (.776 percent) behind Boise State (98-17, .852), Texas (97-18, .843), Oklahoma (102-19, .843), USC (93-22, .809) and Ohio State (91-23, .798). Georgia is tied for 10th place with Texas Tech for best home record this decade, but, as previously noted by Phil Steele, second only to Texas for best road record. …

Mobile native and former UGA coach and athletics director Vince Dooley told the Mobile Press-Register that while recruiting expenses aren’t as out of hand as they used to be before the NCAA cracked down, he thinks some sort of spending cap may be necessary. “I think there should be a study,” Dooley said. “There used to be almost unlimited expenses on recruiting that has been curtailed with NCAA legislation. If it continues to escalate, there might have to be some kind of expenditure caps on that. Not only was it just football and basketball, but it’s all sports now that recruiting budgets are getting bigger and bigger.”

Why is it with UGA when the “road record” comes up they never factor in the Jax game. Yet all the fans talk about having to travel “away” to the game. Every other year UGA is the “visiting” team. In fact that was one of the things UGA whined about when they negotiated a new contract years ago. When they are the “home” team UGA insisted that it be called the UGA/FL game. You guys can’t have it both ways. I guess it is like my CPA says, numbers are anything you want them to be.

True testament to CMR. The road record is very impressive. UGA doesn’t have the best in conference record though. If UF hadn’t played a harder OOC schedule than UGA for most of the decade then I would bet they would be ahead on the overall # of wins. Or if they hadn’t hired moRon Zook…

Go and see if Texas and Oklahoma count their annual game as a road game for both teams? Neutral sites are simply that, neutral sites. Georgia is one of the nation’s best teams when it comes to road games. Look at last year. Georgia was 5-0 in true road games. GT was 3-2 in true road games. Obviously I’m not counting bowl games. But if you want to, Georgia defeated #18 Michigan State 24-12. Tech lost 38-3 to unranked LSU. And Tech was in their own backyard, playing in the Georgia Dome.

I think a salary cap for coaches would be in order – somewhere around $3M/yr. It will get out of hand, if it hasn’t already with the Saban/Meyer contracts.

How many national titles did the Dawgs get in this past decade?

And good point about the fabled ‘road record’ and the Florida game – take your pick, you can’t have both.

Ohio state,

0 fer against the SEC in bowl games. Embarrassed in 2 BCS title games by the SEC. You really need to shut your pie hole. Class dismissed.

Neutral site games are just that, neutral with 50% of the stadium supporting each team. That’s why they don’t count as AWAY GAMES where 90% of the stadium is against you.

CMR came to UGA in 2001. The SEC has changed since then.

Bama didnt have Saban.
FL had Zook, and now has Meyer.
Ark now has Petrino
Nutt went to Ole Miss
USC got better when Spurrier arrived
KY has begun to turn their program around
Tenn now has some new NFL coaches, and a Super-Bowl winning D.
GT now has CPJ, not Chan Gailey

The point:

CMR’s record W-L record for the NEXT 7 years isnt gonna be anything like the last 7 years. Its over.

CMR’s W-L record is gonna start getting WORSE, starting with a beatdown by OKST to start a 7-5 season. Thats right: Losses to OKST, Ark, LSU, FL, and GT.

Huh?

Gator fans can’t have it both ways either. You can’t claim its a neutral site game and then try to count it towards Mark Richt’s road record. This appears to be quite the quandry. I have no idea why an Ohio State fan feels the need to weigh in on the subject. If we want to hear about getting clownstomped in BCS bowl games we’ll let you know.

Regime change,

So in 2005 when Richt won the SEC, Meyer wasn’t at florida? Miles wasn’t at LSU? The only reason that team didn’t beat florida and possibly get to the BCS title game was Shockley’s injury. We would have beaten Florida like a rented mule just like SC did the next week in the chicken coop.

You wish Richt would leave, but he is not.

SSI gator, when you have a QB that does not play because of an injury. That is an injury. When you have a QB that gets his feelings hurt because he got sacked eight times during a game, you make up an injury. I saw the game, Saint Tebow looked fine except for all the grass stains.

You (if you’re honest with yourself) and I know that DJ Shockley playing in that game with a non-throwing shoulder boo-boo, would have still led the Dawgs to at least a 17+ point victory. I hate to throw Joe T under the bus, but even with Joe in the game you still won by…how many points was it?

Okay, that makes no sense but whatever. My point stands. You Gator fans insist that its a “neutral” site but also want it counted toward Richt’s road record. Can’t have it both ways. Kind of like claiming 2005 was a legitimate win (it was not) and crying about Tebow’s shoulder boo boo in 2007. If he was so hurt he shouldn’t have been in the game. Not our problem.

The score was 14-7. DJ could have run for two touchdowns. But he did not play, why, because he had a legitimate injury and the coach sat him on the bench. Flash forward to 2007, Tim Tebow does a Judge Smales imitation from Caddyshack after his seventh sack. Oh my arm. And down he goes for number eight. And still wins the Heisman. When you retire his jersey, use that one with all the grass stains.

I have a lot of respect for Coach Meyer and Tim Tebow, but God it gets old all you Gators saying that the only reason UGA won in 2007 was because Tebow was hurt. Man up why don’t you. Heck we lost the 2005 game with the players we had on the field. I don’t sit around and put it in the whatif victory column. but if you want to play this stupid game I will. You had a lousy year in 2007. You had a great year in 2008. Whining about the 2007 Cocktail Party makes you look small. Who gives a friggin’ cow patty. This century record for UF/UGA: out of 8 games UF – 6 wins Vs UGA – 2 wins.
You can whine all you want about UGA should have won in 2002 because they supposively had the best team in the country or that UGA would have won if Shockley had played in 2005 when he was injured, but UGA didn’t raise their level of play and UGA lost; likewise UF can whine that the only reason UF lost in 2004 was the firing of Zook 3 days before the game or UF would have won in 2007 if Tebow had not been injured (but the real reason was losing 9 out of 11 defensive starters from the 2006 BCS team and Urban’s lame-duck recruiting class could stop UGA), but the Gators didn’t raise their level of play and lost.

Have you ever noticed that when they lose a game its always someone elses fault…never theirs.ESPN stated on their college football show last week that Florida has the most obnoxious fans in college football. It was a national poll. I wonder if the number of mullets and cut off jeans worn by fans to the game was factored in? As far as Tech is concerned… Like most Dawg fans, I don’t really consider them a threat at all..how can you take a program seriously when their own fans don’t even show up for home games. Let’s face it, if they can’t even fill up their cracker box stadium for home games how can anybody take their program seriously!…Let the Big Dawg Eat!

Hey Ohio State fan, Before Spurrier got to Florida the Gators were an after thought in college football. CMR has a 1-2 record against Urban Meyer..with one of the losses being close(7 points- UGA’s starting ).The over all won/ loss record in the series is 47-38-2 in Georgias favor. Spurrior is gone,Urban Meyer has yet to dominate the Bulldogs. Wonderboy Tebow will be gone after this year….let’s see what Florida does after he leaves. I’m betting the Gators struggle this year aganist the good teams on their schedule with Mullen not calling the plays. They ought to be ashamed of the teams they play out of conference.Somebody once said what goes up must come down….Gators fans better be prepared the rest of the league is loading up. As far as Ohio State is concerned. The only time they played Georgia they lost…just like they do aganist every SEC team they play or will play in the future. The SEC is a big boy league…the Big Ten can’t even shine their shoes. Come see me when you guys grow up….Let the Big Dawg Eat!
