ESPN.com’s JC Shurburtt is a big fan of Georgia’s 2010 recruiting class, which he says is “shaping up to be something special.” Of the 16 verbal commitments, there are 10 ESPNU150 watch list members and four Under Armour All-Americans, he notes, adding that it “might be the quickness and athleticism … on the perimeter front-seven that really stands out.” Top to bottom, he says, this is the best class in the SEC right now. …
Bulldawg Illustrated offers a somewhat unconventional view on the hidden costs of Georgia carrying three scholarship kickers and three scholarship fullbacks. …
Richard Cirminiello of College Football News says, “Georgia is not going away.” His preseason assessment of the Dogs: “Joe Cox and either Caleb King or Carlton Thomas may not be Stafford and Moreno, but then again, they may not have to be for the Dawgs to exceed marginalized expectations. Both the offensive line and the front seven will be outstanding, which will have a way of masking concerns in the offensive and defensive backfields until both get settled.” And, he says, “more than anything, I get the sense there’s a different mindset around Athens than in 2008. Last summer, the Bulldogs were constantly dodging questions about being a national title contender and top-ranked team. This year, they seem to have a chip on their shoulder and a quiet resolve to catch people by surprise. That kind of attitude, coupled with a slew of former four and five-star players, can carry a team beyond preseason forecasts.” …
Team Speed Kills surprisingly has some kind words about the now defunct and much maligned Jefferson Pilot/Lincoln Financial/Raycom regional TV coverage of the SEC, being replaced this season by ESPN’s expanded coverage. The main point is that ESPN’s announcer and analyst lineup is short on folks who have any connection to or special knowledge of the SEC, in contrast with what Raycom offered. Comments the blogger known as Year2: “Say what you want about JP/LF/Raycom and the three Daves, and someone probably has, but the folks there loved the SEC. They knew what they were talking about and had longstanding relationships with people inside the league. When they talked with enthusiasm about the personalities, teams, and traditions, you knew it was genuine. I’m sure all the telecasts will turn out mostly fine. … I just feel like we’ve lost something in the exchange besides that annoying Rascal Flatts song from last year. The regional broadcasts were a bit messy, but the alternative is corporate sterility.”

Notice how the Tech and Florida fans cruise the Bulldawg Blog? Strange isn’t it? I have never been on and have no desire to go on a Florida or GT blog. I forgot, GT doesn’t have one, no interest. GT fans are obsessed with UGA. They are like stalkers. They are like the crazy guy in the Dirty harry movies. Their lives are meaningless without UGA. Florida fans have a lot to brag about, they just have no class. They do have nice mullets.
The Dawgs will be better than last year. There will be no easy games but the Dawgs will reak some havoc with the ratings.

If you are recruiting top 10, maybe even top 15 then talent should not be the issue. Then it becomes a matter of filling your most urgent needs, the development of players by the coaching and training staff, the way the players are utilized (the system), the way you promote chemistry and motivation and then other not so “controllables” such as injuries, academic and athletic motivation by the individual players and the biggest pain, the off field behavior issues or hopefully lack thereof.

Broken sewage line sends waste through UGA campus

A crew from the Athens-Clark Public Utilities Department resumed repairs today on a broken 18-inch sewer line that sent raw sewage coursing through the University of Georgia campus Monday.

The crew worked into Monday evening to contain the wastewater flowing into Tanyard Creek, which flows beside the Tate Student Center and underneath Sanford Stadium before emptying into the North Oconee River.
Public Utilities Director Gary Duck said his office received a call about a sewer odor at about 1 p.m. Monday.
The crew was hoping to be able to replace about 10 feet of the old, clay line, Duck said, but when workers began digging they found a crack in an adjacent pipe, forcing them to remove close to 20 feet of pipe.
Workers could not complete repairs last night before dark; instead, they built a temporary dam to prevent more sewer waste from spilling into the creek. The crew is making final repairs today, and Duck said he expects them to be finished by lunchtime.
The sewer line broke upstream from the main campus in a section of UGA-owned land above the Tate Student Center.
The leak was caused when a fallen tree exposed some of the pipe to erosion that eventually caused the pipe to collapse and crack, Duck said.
“This pipe is one of the older sections of line that we have in the system, however it’s also been a very reliable line,” Duck said. “We have not had any problems with that section of the line that I’m aware of in the past.”
Workers are calculating the volume of raw sewage spilled to determine whether the leak classifies as a major spill by state Environmental Protection Division standards, which deem leaks of 10,000 gallons or more major spills, Duck said.
The Public Utilities Department will also be required to monitor the creek for the next six months, Duck said.
